    This makes the MC-101 useful even as a sample/tone generator for a DAW. Pretty cool.

    Game Changer! I just udated my MC-101 last week, to be honest I didn't even read up on what was included in the update, I just knew it needed doing [along with my Microfreak and PRO-1] interesting stuff, thanks for this video.

    Random patch is my favorite feature on here. Had it make a pad that sounds almost like a haunted church choir a couple days ago. Spooky! Would be a good component of a halloween track.

    Very cool feature.
    I would love it, if it was possible to have a track generate a random patch, with each repeat of the loop. Would make for ever evolving generative sounds.
    Will be digging into what other things on the MC-101 can be randomized, as I like that sort of thing.

    I like this feature but then I absolutely hate it when I accidentally press the knob button by habit to “enter” the patch and I lose the random patch lol.. then you can’t find that sound again

  • @GeorgeL909
    @GeorgeL909 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It's so frustrating cause the random feature proves that there is on board access to the oscillator settings, it's just not exposed to the user. One day Roland! You're so close to having the absolute best portable groovebox, just unlock a few more of those parameters! 🤪 I'm just venting cause I love this machine and it's so damn close. The random generator is pretty awesome in the meantime though.

      @@TheScreamingFrog916 it absolutely does. I gave Roland a big wet metaphorical kiss for doing that. Took a while, but they pulled through and I think the mc101 is the best portable/battery powered groovebox for the money nowadays.

    Is there a way yet to save the Random Tones/Patches from 101/707 so can use in Fantom/JupiterX? Thanks I recall last time I had 101 you could only save as part of project. Recently grabbed one again. Thanks

      I like them, although they're not all that realistic. For some futuristic, rock-tinged beats, they're a lot of fun.

  • @GregDixson
    @GregDixson 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    interesting, so it accesses the deeper synth parameters. If you keep hitting random, does it cycle through the same "randoms" or is it generating a unique patch each time?

    • @GabeMillerMusic

      It's given me the same patch on a couple of occasions, but it's pretty rare. It's at least more random than not.

    When Gabe-Circuit-Miller makes a new video without the brand new circuit tracks... just 6 days after he received it... That tells me that the tracks doesn't really have a lot of new features to offer.

    • @GabeMillerMusic
      @GabeMillerMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's not the case at all. Ever since quarantine hit, I've been putting out three videos a week, and to make that sustainable, I stockpile content. I filmed this video about a month ago, long before I received the Tracks, and since I just talked about the 101 in the previous video, now seemed like a good time to put this out. Plus, I filmed another batch of Tracks videos recently and need time for me and my editor to finish them. I've got one coming tomorrow and another hopefully coming Monday. And I've barely scratched the surface of what the Tracks is capable of, I plan to try a ton of different combinations of gear and do a full review, it'll just take some time. And in the meantime, I want to assure viewers who like other gear that I'm not abandoning them.

    Still torn on whether to get the MC-101, has some very cool features but the workflow doesn't seem that intuitive or inspiring.

    • @GabeMillerMusic
      @GabeMillerMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's gotten a lot better since it was introduced. The menu diving is really not that intrusive, there's just a lot of scrolling to pick options, and that can be sped up using shift. And Roland added a lot of shortcuts that dramatically speed up the workflow. It's not as intuitive or inspiring as something like the Novation Circuit, but it's gotten a lot closer... Once you get over the initial learning curve, you can easily take advantage of the extra features, which is quite inspiring in its own right.

    • @lukegregg5944
      @lukegregg5944 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GabeMillerMusic Thanks ! So would you recommend it over the Circuit now? As it seems the only slight advantage the Circuit has is the workflow.

    • @GabeMillerMusic
      @GabeMillerMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did an entire video on the Circuit Tracks vs the MC-101 earlier this week, so I'd recommend giving that a look. It depends on the use case, a user's experience, and whether they want to work heavily with external gear.
