I think this one may be a you issue, all of those logos but one are easily understandable. The only one that doesn't "make sense" after 5 seconds of google if you're unfamiliar with the basic concepts involved is the Trailblazers, and I've always seen that as just "cool unique logo" that didn't need any explanation beyond being cool and unique lol
Yeah, I don't really know how he could find that logo confusing. I've never seen it before he showed it and I immediately got it. Not the negative space (which is cool), but the windtorn flags and the hockey stick.
I’ll say it again just like the NHL critic logo: Minnesota Wild - IT’S A BEAR HEAD DAMMIT! All bears have round ears and a large muzzle. The brow line and teeth also suggests it’s a bear due to its skull structure. The background shows the green misty forest with a full moon (the ear) and the North Star as the eye. Bear.
I thought it looked cool, but a bit too plain, if they just added some more detail and less white and more silver it woulda been good to use as a primary athletics logo
It's funny you mention The Canucks. I'm Canadian and I've been a hockey fan my whole life, I seriously thought a "Canuck" was a fish because of their logo until I was in high school 😂
Not from Minny, but I always understood their new logo. They're the "Wild" not a specific animal - and the scenery shows the wilds, which Minnesota is known for. It is busy, but it makes sense to me.
For the Carolina Hurricanes flag logo, I think anyone from the southeast would instantly recognize those flags as hurricane warning flags. But maybe I'm biased as my high school was the Golden Hurricanes. As for the Portland trailblazers logo, that actually looks like a hurricane symbol moreso than the Canes main logo.
My dad always had the best response to the whole “man-bear-pig” bit people would bring up about the wild logo. “It’s just supposed to be a generic wild animal. If it was supposed to be a specific animal, we’d be the bears, mountain lions, etc”
The greatest logo in all of history, for any sport, was the brave and courageous Redskin that adorned the Washington team's helmets. It was inspiring, electrifying, that brave and courageous figure, ferocious, and motivating. Until Pepsi extorted the team and pledged to bankrupt them unless they "went woke" and assassinated him, like Aunt Jemima and the Land O Lakes girl.
It might not matter to you, but PepsiCo makes Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Doritos, Captain Crunch, Quaker Oats, Cheetos, Tostitos and Lay's potato chips. Think of Bud Light, would you, the next time you go shopping?
As a Brit who has super minimal knowledge of the US, the Seawolves logo goes hard. I can instantly tell it has native roots, kinda looks just as good as the seahawks’ logo.
I like the Hurricanes double storm flag logo. Especially on the black jerseys. I've never had issues knowing what that is. Maybe FivePoints should move about three hours east so his local newscasts can be inundated with hurricane talk a week before the storms even form...
Next up: sports logo myths, such as… -the little H in the Canadians logo meaning “Habitants” (false) -the Raiders logo being based on actor Randolph Scott (true) -the MLB logo being modeled on Harmon Killebrew (false) -the “I” in the New York Islanders logo pointing to their original home (true) …and many more!
Maybe it's because it's hockey, and I live in Ontario, but I knew what the hurricanes logo was when they introduced it. I actually like it better than the main one. It did take me a while to learn what the expos one was.
For me the Hurricanes flag logo was ugly at first seeing but it gain super potential when used as the uniform for the Playoffs plus the Canucks main logo is an orca
having watched a lot of college football over the years, the moment I saw the logo I knew it was the hurricane flags due to the Tulsa Hurricanes, which makes even less sense as a team/logo than Carolina lol
The Carolina Panthers alternative logo with the hockey stick and flags is those are the flags they fly at the beach when there are hurricane conditions or are expected.
7:00 ...And, this is why, when various nickname options for Minnesota's new NHL franchise were being discussed, I was (inwardly) screaming for Blue Ox. You know, like Paul Bunyan's sidekick? Quintessentially Minnesotan,...and the front office blew it. Oh, well.🤷♂️🤔
This is too much fun. Just a thought: how is it that Michigan's Block M logo is copied by Missouri and Minnesota? Thanks, 5PV. Always a beer time when your vids upload.
How about the most confusing team names in sports? For example, “Bengals” never really made sense because nobody refers to Bengal tigers as “Bengals”. I would love that video too.
holy sh*t, hahaha. after 24 years for the first time I noticed that the Wild logo actually resembles a wild animal head. never saw that. always looked at the landscape and thought: hm, thats interesting for a logo.
Gotta disagree with the hurricane flag argument. Most people in land locked states know what a double red flag is and even the Tulsa Golden hurricanes use that.
The Atlanta Falcons logo always confused me as a kid. I always thought it was a weird angular bird face and didn't see that it was a bird flying until I was in high school lol
I liked UNLV’s old logo-a cartoon face with a big mustache and cowboy hat. That Gauchos logo with the eyes peeking out from under the hat is scary!!! Yikes!!!
That Minnesota Wild logo is also facing the wrong way. Left to right, dammit! Trailblazers: "The five white lines and the five black lines…" Nope. There are either 4 or 6 black lines, depending on whether you count the black outline of the logo as lines. Maybe even 8 if you bring in the bottom horizontal outline line and it's slanted mate on the upper left of the white section. And don't even start with the curved parts of all the lines. Now say all that again but upside down for the red part. Canucks: They're Canucks so they don't count. UNLV: Um, what? It's a splotch.
"If you're a French, and from Quebec..." You mean like the Canadian Province where the Montréal Expos played, and like the language that the people of Montréal speak? 😆 Also, the *b* stands for Baseball; kinda like that word you used when you said the name of the team in English at 1:51
I had never really considered that logos had to have a meaning or connection to the wider world im sure people living in Carolina know about hurricane flags
The Sea Wolf definitely rings of Native American references and I get that one. The Hurricane warning flag... yeah, I get what it's about and appreciate the idea, but it also doesn't quite work. And I also always disliked the Expos logo. The Wild one is fine. Not sure what else you do with the concept, but it sure is busy.
Only one confusing was the Trailblazers, and maybe the Canuks. The Carolina flags meaning are pretty obvious if you aren't the type of guy that requires a helmet for every day life. Same can be said for Minnesota Wild.

As a Florida native I knew what those flags were instantly. I think most people in the southeast know as well.
Anyone who watches college football beyond the Power 5 conferences should know those flags because of Tulsa lol
I came to post a nearly verbatim comment. UM Hurricanes also had those as an alternate helmet design in the early 2000s.

Yeah, I don't really know how he could find that logo confusing. I've never seen it before he showed it and I immediately got it. Not the negative space (which is cool), but the windtorn flags and the hockey stick.
