TH-cam is still definitely my favorite platform. I'm 23, so of the "younger generation" but I cannot stand TikTok, I deleted it after a couple of months. I still prefer longer videos, with more details and information than I can get from someone speed-talking in a 30-60 sec ad

@@anh7807I love shopping and can easily go overboard. I have learned to look at makeup especially eyeshadow with a critical eye. For example I could have easily bought Tarte Toasted Marshmallows, and Urban Decay Naked Heat. I personally think these look the same after looking at them. There are also three drugstore brands that look very similar.. I chose a drugstore brand for the price, package and the fact it comes with a mirror.
The drugstore brands are Cover Girl, Rimmel, and Kokie. I chose Kokie.

Back in the “Morphe code” day, people got annoyed at commercials disguised as entertainment. Honestly now though, with Amazon hauls, Shein, sponsored videos etc…. It feels like almost all content is a commercial. I skip almost all of them and have unsubscribed to most creators now and listen to way more podcasts instead while I’m getting ready. I understand why influencers do it, but I’m not the audience anymore.

    • @bethannybiscuits

I stopped watching like 20 people because I was so done with the commercials. Not to mention disappointment. Thank you very much for bringing up this topic, Angie! The overconsumption many influencers are promoting is destructive for both our wallets and the environment. I watch TH-cam mainly for entertainment purposes, not to buy staff. I understand influencers have to pay their rent, but it's out of control! I don't want to watch infomercials nonstop. Thank you so much for not shoving products down our throats!😥

I'm honestly fed up with social media in general because of the consumerism that's taken over. The only platform I'm still actually engaging in is youtube because overall the creators I watch dont push sales on their videos, they only have affiliate links on their description boxes. But I also recognize that one of the big reasons why I havent fallen into consumer mode is because most of my favourite creators are not from my country, so the links dont really work cause there's no shipping available for my region or the money conversion is way out of my league (for instance, 1 dollar = 5 BRL which is the Brazilian coin). But also... idk, I truly believe shopping in general has become a way for people to try and fill the void and the anguish left by the way we're currently living, how society has been shapen and has been shaping the way we relate to one another, the scent of hopelesness that hangs in the air with all the messed up stuff that's been going on. I understand we all need to make money, pay our bills, try to live somewhat comfortably, but at the same time I see companies profiting out of our suffering. Idk, late stage capitalism is wild.

I started watching you and stayed when you lived in Sweden, had a dark background, had shorter blond hair and lighter skin and darker lighting in the room. I am a very small creator and I try to limit the use of affiliate links on my channel for that reason. I do work full time and TH-cam/makeup is my hobby and passion, but it does severely impact the money you earn. I definitely could not live off of adsense right now. I often need to remind myself when I see a video with poor quality lighting or poor sound quality, these are not professionals and if I made my own video it would be worse. I prefer long form content because I like to watch while I'm doing dishes or projects. I appreciate your honesty and integrity. It is so disappointing when influencers sell out, pushing products they don't really like because they can make a buck. I don't mind at all when there are paid partnerships and or links- to me its all part of it but I really don't like being deceived. Short form (generally speaking) is like putting on a TV movie and skipping to the commercials.. some are obviously worse offenders than others. I understand the "don't hate the player, hate the game" stance but I just want the players to play a clean game. I enjoy getting to know the personality and insite of my favorite creators. I seek out links when I am shopping because if I am going to buy based on your video, it's kind of like me giving you a tip or giving back in some way and lets face it, we don't mind a discount. Influencer marketing through just PR is way more cost effective for brands than paying for an ad campaign. When my favorites get sponsorships and or collaborations, I truly am happy for them.

I just commented on Robert Welsh's video about MLM. Where I believe influencer marketing is a more modern type of MLM. Where parasocial relationships are very normal nowadays. MLMs make people spend money because they want to stay in a "community", it's the same with influencers and "fans" where people are influenced to make purchases just to feel connected with the community. We live in very weird times.

I do it so that the content creator will get paid for their time, so they continue to get PR. At the same time, I have over 40 palettes probably and I have really slowed down on purchasing. I really don't need *ANOTHER* palette. At this point, I really just want a direct way to tip or pay the creators, so I appreciate things like Patreon and the TH-cam version of that.

“Viewers almost demand the kind of content that takes creators 50-60 hour work weeks.” - It amazes me with some comments I see from viewers. Like a creator will do a really in-depth video showing all different application methods, with primer and without, with powder and without, etc. WAY more than what I see from most creators. AND it’s like there will STILL be a comment or more that are like, “oh this was great but next time can you also do xyz.” Like DANG, they did more than I see pretty much every other creator do and that’s still not good enough?! Like I can get the info I need to know if I want to try it or not from the in-depth review they did with how many ways they showed it. At that point it’s like, you just need to buy it yourself and try it. But there’s always people that want something more. Unfortunately, even creators who do amazing, in-depth videos will always have some comments asking them to do more. It’s crazy to me! I can’t imagine the time it takes for them to do all the actual video, b roll, close ups, comparisons, different applications (their poor faces wiping off and reapplying so many times or having to do it over multiple days in order to film it), and people still ask for more 😅😅

I recently started my youtube channel and I relate with this so much that I don’t want to be a salesperson. There’s nothing wrong with that career path but to me authenticity matters more than trying to sell people, well, anything and everything. Thanks for this video.

Your channel growth over the last couple of years only further proves what your saying about people wanting better quality videos. Also, it doesn't matter to me, to an extent! When you moved to the US I know you had to update a lot of your equipment for filming, as someone whos been watching your channel for years I've watched your subscribers double since then & I noticed you were at 60-70k for a bit before you moved and did the update. I think when we first start watching a channel, quality is one of the things were looking for, along with knowledge and other things. For a lot of people, once we watch someone for a while they almost become apart of your daily life, at that point quality may not matter as much anymore.

As someone who's battling with the concept of starting a channel, this video was super helpful. I want to start a channel and I think I've got a decent idea, but since I don't know how to edit, shoot, etc I'm afraid to start because I don't like not doing something *well* but nobody begins at *well*... 😮‍💨
Who knows, maybe there's not even a point because I surely don't want to be a salesperson.

Do it! Editing is hard work but, it's a fun skill to learn.
You can even make a video and don't post it just for giggles.
Start up is the hardest bit. There's lots of learning and it's touch and go. Just try it and dont post it or just share it with friends and family as a creative outlet.
At least you can say you tried and failed, like me :)

I consider myself ’old school’ and I definitely favor TH-cam over other social media platforms. I spend a lot of time on Facebook but mostly to keep in touch with friends…so the social aspect of social media. I used to be a fan of QVC, but I feel the shopping channels have moved away from all but the biggest brands and the same ones are featured over and over again. I like that on TH-cam,if you enjoy an influencer’s personality or style, you can choose who to watch and when to watch them. I don’t shop a lot though links in general, but I have definitely purchased collars and such based on my desire to support a particular creator.

This is why I will continue to support you. You’re honest and share all the information to actually help people realize the truth about sponsorships and monetization influencers get that may not readily available or disclosed. I have noticed an influx of IG accounts I follow (for professional information and recommendations for dentistry) that say the items or products are on their Amazon list and they will post a link. I shop so much from Amazon and to think that those creators get a percentage of what I purchase regardless if it’s dentistry related (to their account) or for personal use is very deceptive. Know that now I will not be clicking on anymore links due to the tracking of cookies unless it’s a creator I choose to support. I don’t think it’s responsible as a creator to not disclose this information as they should and allow the person viewing the content to make that decision to support them based on having that information if they want to. I don’t use TikTok and the platform I use most often is TH-cam. FYI thank you so much! I was able to save using your code at Odens eye for the holiday bundle ❤❤

I agree it feels like QVC sometimes, and most of the time, I don't mind that. . .to a point. My personal turn offs are when I start to feel like they're:
    1. more interested in selling products than making me an informed consumer, ie, they don't do product comparisons or point out cheaper options.
    2. clearly focused on maintaining relationships with trendy/over-hyped or luxury brands, because again, it feels like they're more interested in pushing a product regardless of the value to the consumer.
Oh, and I'm fully a youtube person. I'd rank Instagram 2nd, and TikTok a distant 3rd.

Hi Gorgeous! I would definitely say that TH-cam is my favorite platform by far. I hardly ever check out TikTok anymore. I don't use FB anymore. IG would be the second platform that I use to check out products and my subscription box.
It is very confusing how TH-cam works for the person who has a channel. I have used codes recently for purchasing products. I wasn't sure if you benefited when I look at links to look for more information on a product even if I wasn't able to purchase a certain product. I have been learning more and more from you in the GRWM videos. It is very helpful! Thank you very much!
    See you soon Angie ❤

I think people either forget or aren’t old enough to know that retail sales used to always be on commission. I worked at a high mid department store. Commissions were a thing of the past went I worked there in mid 80a but there were three older sales ladies that were from the commission days and they were cut throat like they were still on commission. It was hard to get sales because those little old biddies were faster than they looked and were on each customer that came into the department like white on rice.

Also, I would MUCH MUCH MUCH rather watch a 30 min video about makeup, then a 15-30 sec video on an item. I don't watch reviews on Tik Tok, only in TH-cam. I want an in depth video and not just a basically 15-30 sec video that's just there to sell me something, good or not... But videos like yours are more reliable! And entertaining! 💜💜💜

Yes! I agree Angie. Also, I don’t like when Instagram changed when you look at hashtags and all I can see now are top posts or recent top posts. I used to love to filter it to most recent posts and it showed everything with that hashtag. Mostly I can only find popular influencers and brands now, but I used to also love finding others to follow and enjoy more, not as professional I guess, pictures and content as well. If that makes sense 😂 😊 Great Video.
