Fun fact the design of the Announcer from TF2 was a piece of fan art by an artist called Makani that then went viral and Valve bought

In addition to voicing GladOS and The Announcer, Ellen McClain is the voice of the Combine Overwatch announcements that you hear throughout Half-Life 2. So that's THREE times she's played an ominous loudspeaker voice!
she’s also the witch in both left 4 dead games, voiced the jäger AIs in both pacific rims and also also is married to John Patrick Lowrie, who is among other the things the voice of the TF2 sniper and various minor half life 2 characters and civilians!

I'm sure someone must have already mentioned him, but the Ancestor from Darkest Dungeon adds so much to the atmosphere of the game. If you make a follow-up video, consider featuring him.

Maybe it’s because he’s a narrator they didn’t consider him for this list but imo he outshines anyone they selected for this list. Out side of maybe the killer instinct announcer as far as loving the high combo shout outs.
He's a narrator, not an announcer. Not the same thing.
The TF2 Announcer is so so iconic, when the TF2 voice actors got together to muck around doing the search for the Sandvich, Ellen McClain just spoke in Announcer's quotes XD
But the question is did they ever find the sandvich?
Fun fact: Xander Mobus, the announcer for Smash Ultimate, is the only announcer to reprise the role of the announcer, going to Ultimate straight from Smash 4. Since he is also an experienced voice actor, he also ended up playing Joker in Smash Ultimate, since he had voiced the character in Persona 5.
He also plays the conductor in a hat in time.
Oh, and he's the Merchant from Dust: An Elysian Tail and Dragon Ball Z Abridged's Jimmy Firecracker and Deadpool.

Still think the Smash 64 announcer was definitely the best. Just sounded way more badass than any other Smash announcer. Project M/Plus' announcer is pretty good too though and would be second.
Two items sorely missing from this list: the classic announcer from the Unreal Tournament series and Shao Khan's announcements (and Dan Forden's toasty) from Mortal Kombat. I hope they get included in a follow-up because they're pretty iconic and kind of inspirations for other games in their genres (including the mentioned Halo).

I had thought of that, but there wasn't that much commentary in the early MK games. I can't really comment on the more recent games.
I was thinking of the female announcer in UT for the *particular emphasis* on "Holy Shit!" but even the default one is pretty damn iconic :)
Please, do another one for announcers/narrators in single player games. Darkest Dungeon's narrator lines after a won battle bring you back to the ground. (Remind yourself that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer). Bastion's narrator is like your only friend throughout the mc's lonely journey.

"GODLIKE!" is said with such enthusiasm too, the same could be said for Quake 3 Arena, I mean, these 2 are basically the origin of the announcers, the lack of their mention is disgusting

Dance Dance Revolution’s announcer has some iconic lines, delivered with 110% dedication. Things like “Can I call you a dancing mastah?”, “There’s always a…tomorrow!” and “You’ve shown us… your ULTIMATE dance! I can’t stop crying… BUCKETS of TEARS!”
I was hoping they'd include this guy, he's so extra and it perfectly amps up the awesome campy vibes of the games lol. I'm partial to him, seemingly overcome with emotion, shouting, "LEGEND- YOUUUU ARE A LEGEND!!!"

I can't believe you missed the Pokemon stadium announcer! He's iconic even throwing in some lines when you're just idling trying to decide on a move. Bonus points for Pokemon battle revolution.
Something that has been missing from Pokemon for *years*. The 3D games just aren't the same without a boisterous announcer going, "OH! IT'S A ONE-HIT WONDER! OHHHH, THAT DIDN'T TAKE MUCH! A PSYCHIC BLAST!"

The Mortal Kombat announcer, the satisfaction at the end of a fight when you put in the combo correctly then get that "Fatality" call out.
I was expecting that the whole time, it's the main thing people remember about the game (besides the blood), FINISH HIM!! FATALITY!! BRUTALITY!! Frienddship! all stand out lines.
Honestly, how do you a this whole list without mentioning Mortal Kombat

I like that in Blaz Blue series you can set some of the in-game characters as announcers and they will comment on the characters you choose or how the game is going while staying completely in-character.
Like, for example, in the last game if you set Hazama as announcer he will be sneezing if you select Taokaka instead of naming her (since he is allergic to cats in the story)
The fact that you guys still bring so much personality to theses lists is always incredibly appreciated.
N64 Pokemon Stadium 1 & 2 Annoucer. Some 20+ years later, while playing the newest Pokemon generations I still hear in my head "It hung on by the skin of its teeth!" after surviving a critical hit.
Literally my first thought seeing the title, amazing he wasn't included here. My personal favourite is probably when a higher level pokemon knocks out a low level and he yells "IT DIDN'T STAND A CHANCE!!!"
"They're staring each other down!" But I was just having a piss and put the controller down.

And the “What’s the matter, trainer?” If you idle too long.
That guy is the one who taught me how to play. Always complaining I take to long to decide on my move or that didn't use the right move

It's really weird in regards to Unreal Tournament in particular. The whole Monster Kill bit was done to death for YEARS.

My favorite thing about the Smash announcer is how carefully he enunciates "Duck Hunt"
A personal favourite of mine is the announcer from Sonic and SEGA All Stars Racing, who is similar to DJ in that he both gets super into it and never stops talking, even when everyone is just driving like sane people where he’ll comment on how boring the race just became.
Edit: Upon further research, this guy has an AGGRESSIVE amount of lines: he'll comment about characters hitting someone with an item, getting it with an item, firing an item and missing, crashing into a wall, finishing in the podium positions (unique for all 3), even DRIVING THE WRONG WAY. And the kicker is that he has several UNIQUE lines for EVERY character (except Metal Sonic because he's DLC and Banjo & Kazooie because their version exclusive).

I love that guy he made these races so much better and sometimes even motivated me to win. He is one of the reason Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing is one of my favourite games on my PS3. I've also played Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing transformed but it wasn't the same it was way to quiet.

More of a narrator than an announcer, but the Ancestor in Darkest Dungeon comments on pretty much everything that happens and every single line of his is so quotable!

The N64 Pokémon Stadium (and 2) game, also for some of the mini games. It had like lines for all the moves, and for how effective the attacks were, how well the combat was going as well as some quotes for when you were snoozing off or repeating actions.

These are all great, but Shao Khan acting as the classic Mortal Kombat games' announcer is iconic, and the "Toasty!" you'd get for a particularly stylish combo is likewise incredibly well-known, and I'm upset they didn't make the list
I mean, in sonic colours Eggman is an announcer for where you are going, and just randomly announces in the stages about his theme park. I loved it so much. Definitely my favorite

He’s not technically an announcer, but I can’t deny that the Guildmaster from Fable was always doing the absolute most at all times. “Hero your will energy is low, watch that!”, “try to get your combat multiplier even higher!”, “your health is low, do you have any potions, or food?” WILL FOREVER LIVE INSIDE MY BRAIN
He was featured in the "Sounds so annoying they'll never leave your brain". And I think featured again in a video about developers taking digs at themselves because according to Fable 2, he was killed and had "your health is low" carved into his forehead.
I was thinking more the Crucible announcers from Fable 2. So. Many. Puns.

ZAX from Fallout 76's short-lived Nuclear Winter was *incredible!* Standing in an irradiated area or near the border of the incoming nuclear storm? It's possible you'd hear its calm, gentle, "I couldn't care less about your survival, candidate, but in case *you* do, you might consider .. moving." So many great lines!
Shaxx from Destiny should be included in the follow up! In the Mayhem Crucible activity: "if you lose, it's because you didn't throw enough grenades. You should be throwing grenades as I'm saying this!"
Love or hate Gambit, the Drifter deserves a mention, too. "Woo! They wanted to fight you, right? That's what they said!"

As far as Borderlands characters go, I think Mad Moxxi really dominates this role. Her introduction was with the horde mode DLC for the first game with all the writing built around her presence as the in-world MC.

All the Slaughterdome / equivalent announcers are great in Borderlands. But can't beat Torgue.
Ever played Madden? I am blown away by the sheer amount of dialog, so much is context sensitive. It even recognizes holidays, as I experienced when it called my exhibition game on December 25th a Special Christmas Day Event!
Dates, teams, players, and an incredible amount of context sensitive narration is the most incredible announcer I've ever seen!
The announcer from SSX tricky is really memorable to me, I still hear him yelling 'TRICKYYY' and 'SWEET BIG AIR BONUS' on a terrifyingly regular basis
The Narrator in Bastion was absolutely amazing. The game unfolds like a story as you are playing it. The Narrator brings that game to life.
His role in the backstory was a massive revelation come the games ending.

One of my favorites is Lord Shaxx from Destiny (Lord Saladin and Saint-14 are also fun.) Hearing Shaxx's pre and post game rants are funny (more grenades being one of my favorite during mayhem matches) and how excited he gets for a Seventh Column. All time favorite is getting the "I Made You This" medal
Growing up, TimeSplitters Future Perfect had lines that would get stuck in my head. Running around in multiplayer with stuff like 'LoBOtomy!' 'KILLING frenzy!', 'Open-head SURgery' and 'Wasted!' playing in response to my performance was always a treat!
That game is just generally top tier, but the commentary is very fun 😂

When I saw the title of this video, I genuinely flashed back to the sounds of playing NBA Jam as kid, a game that I basically haven’t thought about since that time. I cannot BELIEVE it actually was on this list!
I'm really glad that the Soul Calibur announcer made it. He was the first one I thought of when I saw this list. Also, I'd like to add the announcer from the TimeSplitters games, particular Future Perfect. One of my favorite things was to get a headshot and hear him announce, "Open-brain surgery!"
Love that TF2’s Administrator is getting some well-deserved adoration! I’ve always loved the sound of her voice, her delivery is just so good (if very stress-inducing at times LOL) and Luke is very right, they really nailed the way her voice FEELS as a visual design! Middle-aged chain-smoking woman in an impeccably sharp suit is extremely good. ✨
The best is when the Administrator starts cackling as the timer runs down.
I love how even her voice actress likes to refer to her as "The skinny old B1T€#"

Worth mentioning that Ellen McLain is also pretty invested in the community. She's done multiple livestreams and The Search For The Sandvich and other such stuff as the Administrator, she's great.
And you're so right @Chris Sizemore, in fact I'm surprised they didn't include some of that in the video tbh. Her maniacal laughter as the bomb reaches the final terminus will never not be memorable.
I have never heard someone say the number 2 quite as well as the Administrator.
He's not from a fighting game but House of the Dead Overkill has a narrator who speaks at the beginning of each level and also lets you know when you have a kill streak going.
The Darkest Dungeon amnouncer/Ancestor is just amazing, but It'd be sad to miss Dungeon Keeper 2/War for the Overworld in a list like this

At the bodega near the train station where some of us teens waited for our connecting buses when I was in high school, they had three arcade cabinets. Two of them were NBA JAM and Mortal Kombat II. It was endlessly hilarious seeing Liu Kang receive an uppercut while hearing "...INTO THE STANDS!" or seeing Scorpion incinerate a foe to the sounds of "He's on FIRE!" The unintentional crossovers were endless.
I love the annoyed but amused look on Ellen's face at 14:35. I feel like that's how we'd all feel if there was someone narrating our lives.
I will forever remember the XBox classic, “Fusion Frenzy” announcer. Just ready to rumble at the start of the disk and then his voice counting down a match so enthusiastically that I’m pretty sure his voice cracks. Iconic.
They announcer from Pokemon Stadium 1 & 2 delivered his lines with so much enthusiasm that I'd swear it's one of my core memories.XD
Timsplitters Future Perfect's announcer always added a little extra to those good shots you did. 'Lobotomy!' For a good headshot or the pained cry for somewhere more private (added with the death animation) always had us laughing whilst engaging in a sniper battle.
I don't know if it counts as an announcer, but how about Gauntlet? That was the first game I ever played with voice lines actually commenting on the action. And stuff like 'Elf needs food, badly!' is pretty damn iconic.

I don't know that I've ever played the original Gauntlet, but me and my sister played a whole lot of Gauntlet Legends. I would say that announcer should count so if the original is close then yeah I agree!

I assume they skipped him *because* he's so unmissable. Tsp gets a lot of love in Outside Xtra lists, so it goes without saying.
Also, he’s one of the main characters in the game, so it doesn't quite match the theme.
Stanley was already upset from the lack of the Narrator. So upset that he stopped the video to comment.

Everything he says is so extra and said with such gusto. "Monstrous size has no intrinsic merit, unless inordinate exsanguination be considered a virtue" is such a badass way of saying "Big things bleed more"

Cephalon Cy in Warframe fits this list imo, his cold sarcasm and ruthless insults as you blow up enemy ships and kill raiders on your own ship in Railjack never get old!
I got to meet Jeff Steitzer after seeing him in a musical. He's a local legend. Talented as hell and just a nice dude. Got his signature on a picture of all the Humongous Entertainment games he was in, I think he was surprised to have a nerd approach him without mentioning Halo

Weird Al in The Billy and Mandy video game is my personal favorite announcer. So much enthusiasm
It's only a brief segment of the game, but Scotch and Kotch commentating on the fight against the Hell House in FF7R are another great example! They have unique dialogue for nearly anything Cloud and Aerith do - using limit breaks, hitting the house's (constantly changing) weakness, getting sucked INTO the house, dying... they even have different dialogue for every summon you might use!
The first I think of has got to be Rahzel in SSX Tricky. One of the funnier parts of that performance is that he will mock you for doing the same tricks over and over, not just hype you up all the time. Also the Unreal one needs to be on the next list too

Had to love the ssx games. Snowboarding Games stayed to pretty much them so they didnt see the downfall of games like Tony Hawk...and they didn't over release titles. Played the fuck out of them after Out Cold came out in theaters back in the Day.

I remember Killer Instinct in the arcade. I rarely played due to not knowing any combos (vicious circle), but it was SO cool watching someone good... Seeing them dial up like 30, I think even 50 hit combos was INSANE!
I also feel like a sorely missed one is Dungeon Keeper (someone who I found out is also the voice of Peppa Pig's dad, though I've literally never seen a single episode). SUCH a deep voice of gravitas, totally perfect for the demonic environment. Really sells the theme.
I don’t know if he counts because he’s only on the Solaris VII missions, but Duncan Fisher from MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries is an awesome announcer. Taking the simple battle royal missions and adding world building and play by play so you feel like you’re a sci-fi gladiator competing against the best pilots in the Inner sphere. Duncan has become one of the most loved characters in the Battletech fandom, which is saying something due to how established it is through its books and the like.
Yes George Ledouc is great as Duncan Fisher in MW4 and the Tex Talks Battletech intermissions.

The Narrator absolutely set the atmosphere for Darkest Dungeon.
He made the game for me.
I'd love to suggest the announcer from Pokémon Battle Revolution for the Wii. The sheer enthusiasm for the battles and the pure concern for the Pokémon involved make him iconic, at least in my heart. My family and I still quote him years later.
I think Shaxx will always have a place in my heart as my favourite announcer. Lines like "Let then come, this is their fate", "TRIPLE DOWN!" And "SEVENTH COLLUM!" will always send a chill down my spine. Although I can't think of a destiny announcer that isn't awesome. And the guy from darkest dungeon is frankly amazing.
The narrator in A Bard's Tale IV is great as someone who's had it up to here with his protagonist.
I love the announcer in Street Fighter Alpha 3. Him yelling random things like "face it straight!" always got me hyped up. They even used some of those voice clips in the Scott Pilgrim movie.

I loved Pokemon Battle Revolutions Annoucer! He sounds so pumped when he talks, especially when he says lines like "Sky Attack Rains Down Havoc!" or "Sheer Cold Delivers Chilling Misery!" Its just a simple battle game, but the announcer combined with the Totodile line & other amazing Pokemon make the game fun!
I'd love to see you do a collection of the biggest, dankest mansions that were really out of place for the game they take place in.

The hover race announcer in Beyond Good and Evil always gave it 100% (him cheering for me as "the little rookie" always motivated me, plus Double-H in the passenger seat whooping and hollering and the amazing music always made the races SO fun to play)

Shaxx from Destiny 2 during crucible matches, is one the best. Especially when you get the we ran out medals medal. I dont know if that counts since he's only announcing during the one mode.

I like to think that the Skullgirls announcer is pretty great both doing it in Russian and while drunk when calling out the fighters names and starting the match
I'd like to mention Mission Control from Deep Rick Galactic. He's just a grumpy old man that'd prefer you to stop dancing, getting drunk, or breaking things, and getting back to work
It's also fun to listen to his quotes after performing the Richual(pinging a compressed gold chunk repeatedly for your dwarf to repeatedly say"We're rich!). Or from pinging certain mushrooms repeatedly, he's great.
Soul Calibur II announcer was epic. Sometimes I just went to the options menu to listen to the music & to hear the announcer say "Transcending history and the world, a tale of souls and swords, eternally retold."
How about the skull girls announcer. It makes you feel like you're in a movie.
