James Earl Jones should be worth $500 million or more like his colleagues... His voice and acting skill are iconic. The narrator said it perfectly, "he needed the money". He also was young, black and desperate for work... Easy prey in White Hollywood... 🤦🏾♀️
Getting a fair offer isn't being "easy prey".
Doesn’t matter which Hollywood it was, white, black, or Bolly. Starving artist do what they gotta. Back then he was in a few projects on Broadway and film. Lots of folks weren’t compensated that hadn’t broken out. Not a race thing. He was offered a fair rate for that time. He made a choice, and he ain’t complaining. So why are we?
@@depletable I said what I said!!! Don't like it? Get you some catfish nuggets and collard greens and STFU!!+
What! It’s got nothing to do with white Hollywood other wise he wouldn’t have been offered shares!
Stop with that lazy nonsense
@@Livwilde87 none of that made any sense or related to anything! I hope that wasn’t your example of your communicative skills or why anyone in a similar position of james should should listen to you as it is bound to have them at a loss too.

Great story! The best decision was made at that particular time! Mr. Jones still became a phenomenal and wealthy individual! 👍
It's the same story every generation. The key was financial education. Which our people never get growing up. You hate to see it.
This is the most heartbreaking thing I ever heard
We always go for the quick "buck" smh
Great info Comedy Hype! JEJ really miss thought that decision. Jack Nicholson took a percentage for the role of the Joker in Batman and made between $60-$90 million.
You don't get what you deserve. You get what you negotiate. Period.
He had the option. He chose wrong. That's not George Lucas' or Gisney's fault.
HE made the wrong decision.
The actor that played Obi Wan took the percentage deal. He’s made over 90 million dollars.
He is one of my favorite voices when it comes to a man he has a beautiful voice it's his voice alone like Barry White is so many other that I love to hear talk ❤️
Almost no one thought Star Wars was going to make its money back let alone become a cultural phenomenon. Jones was definitely too humble by keeping his name off the credits, his voice was important to the film.
When someone offers you points on the package profits u take it ..9 timEs out of 10 it's a great opportunity instead of fast cash long money when you a integral piece is major
i didn't know this kool n thanks gor the education n this..
What’s the background instrumental on this video called?
Don’t blame him as not many thought it would of been a huge success however still take the profit option next time
Batwomen voice is back 🦹🏿♀️🔊👂🏽😁😭🤣🤣💀
Good job and thanks 👍🏽
I'd love to hear a voice test of Orson Welles reading for Darth Vader, I doubt it exists; but that would be incredible.
love him such a great actor n classic man..
Magic Johnson said the same thing happened to him and is still kicking himself for it.
Definitely need parents to be more like weavers momma. Crazy I didn't recognize the voice.
We are not taught or educated to know anything about business side of the entertainment world, like Jason's mom was
People don't even think about educating themselves to know what to do.
They trust these companies like Disney to do right by them.
A lot of people are just trying to provide a better life for their parents or family.
They don't know any better, like what happened to TLC.
They where young adults in their early 20's and LA Reed and Pebbles did them wrong.
Their parents didn't know anything about the business side of the music industry
Reed and his wife Pebbles told them they didn't have anything to worry about they he would take care of them and he provided them with their own lawyers
TLC and Toni Braxton believe and trust LA Reed
Toni Braxton had to take Reed to court to get her money
@@mlynettepinky595 again we need more parents like Weavers mom. Thank you for proving the point
"I Am Your Father"....."You Don't Know the Power of the Dark Side" Famous lines for life!! Pay Mr. James Earl Jones, aka Darth Vader, aka Mufasa his much over due money!!!
Wow but that goes to show irs not just about if you need the money or not but about educating yourself or having access to that knowledge of finance. When you are aware of other options you would know that you don't have to be pressured or reluctant to just take what someone gives you
He could've renegotiated after A New Hope. His voice was the key to making of an icon, and definitely had clout to do so. Alec Guiness (Obi-Wan Kenobi) took up the percentage deal because he saw something special in the movie. I'm sure Ford, Fisher and (especially) Hamill done so after the first one. I blame his agent for not doing their fucking job.
I really wish we can hear what orson welles would sound like as vader
7k for 2.5 hrs of work in 1977 for the first film, yet many projects followed and I'm sure made it right
his voice in the new Obi Wan is still just as spectacular as the originals. Orson Wells could've probably pulled it off But Mr Jones is awesome and Iconic in anything he's ever put his time into.
The same thing happened to the cast of Friday. Everybody agreed to a flat fee.
Best of the Best is my favorite James Earl Jones role.
We must learn today to stay away from desperate measures &s ee beyond right now & play the long game.
James Earl Jones WILL ALWAYS be Darth Vader and kudos to Jason Weavers mom, smart woman❤🌟🙏👍
Duh. She's a QUEEN
i can guarantee if he didn't need the money right then (like he said), he would of taken the other deal, but most of the time we need that money to pay bills, when i was an extra i made $60 a day had to be there from 5am-3pm or more this was mid 2000s now a commercial lead can net 3k total and i have to fight for another gig...everyone thinks because you are on tv you are caked up, nope, i made more money at my retail job...it hard out there
This broke my heart
$7k for 2.5 hours of recording work... That's not a bad deal either.
Yes it is
@@jermaineburgess3767 no it not. Not for a film rejected by the studios. George had to pay for it out his own pocket. you are looking at this in retrospect.
@@RetrogradeBeats same deal jack had with batman nobody knew how big it was going to be I think he made close to 100 million taking money of the back end
Tbh most voice actors aren't paid a lot of $ to this day unless you are famous
Somethings you have to look at the long haul if you have faith in your work. Mr Jones did well in the long run.
Imagine if earl jones asked for 2% of the back end. geeeshh
Reminds me of the cast of the movie city of gods. All of the actors except one took a low up front pay instead of royalties because they didn't think it was going to blow up worldwide
Star Wars wasn't expected to make a lot of money...
How can you loose something you never had? The title shouldn't have he lost millions. By that logic, we all lost millions for not guessing the lottery numbers. James have a great career and still working today. This video is stretch for views, I ain't mad it that, but CH shouldn't make videos to paint people in a negative light, when those people are doing good in life and staying out the way.
I hope in recent time that deal for him has changed! JEJ voice will always be Vader til the end of time! 😎👍👑
They talking about the 1st movie. Its been 10 other spinoffs and more to come now that they're with Disney. James has been getting his Vader money since then I Know!!!
7k ...Wtf Disney. James Earl Jones is a true hidden figure .
Jones has a current new worth of 40 million dollars. Cash over equity proved beneficial in the short term for Jones but not in the long term financially. Nonetheless, he came out on top. May the FORCE be with you whenever you sign a contract! Longevity has its rewards.
If they didn't ... they certainly SHOULD have given him something on the "back end" ... in the form of a bonus...
I didn't know it was 70 billion. He couldnt afford to do shares and stocks probably at the time. So james made a quick 7g's when he needed it. And I KNOW James is GETTING RESIDUALS as of 2022. James has THE BEST VOICE in HOLLYWOOD.
That hurt my heart
He has one of the best voices and Hollywood James Earl Jones original voice of Darth Vader
RDJ took a similar approach towards Iron Man and Marvel paid him $50M, while everyone else got $2M-$8M
James Earl Jones is the male equivalent of Patty Labelle, in that they are both living, breathing examples of the word "class"....
It’s a shame but he’s still worth 40 million…i’d take that all day!
You’re making a video about the man with the most iconic voice in Hollywood, but narrating the clip by a woman who clearly lost hers. Please give this sexy smoker some warm tea and lozenges. Her strained throat is lowkey hurting MY throat.
I need mine on the back end
Why does she sound like Paula Jai Parker?
YEAH!!! She sure do. 😄😊
May the force be with y'all 😜
JEJ signed the ☢️ CONtracts ☢️ and got Conned. 😂
At least 5 people are responsible for the success of Darth Vader. Lucas, Prowse, Jones, the guy who designed the costume, and the guy who created the various noises (especially the respirator). These all came together to create the character, and perhaps a lot of other people also contributed to the success of the villain.
thats on him
Alec Guinness was the only one that knew Star Wars was going to be a big hit. The rest of the cast and crew thought it would be a flop.
Daaaamn Earl
Probably Because He Was Only Used As A Voice Over Not The Actual Character Of Darth Vader Because The Actual DARTH VADER WAS A Small Voiced White Man And Back In Those Days Voice Actors Where Almost Like Extras So They Only Used His Voice While The Real Actor Played The Physical Roles Of Darth Vader.
Like your style
Goes to show...it's not always about the bird in the hand
He is also the. The voice in the new Obi wan show on Disney
Who's doing the narration on this vid....?
You can bet he (James Earl Jones) got paid more for Conan then Star Wars!!! When both are good movies 🎬! He is Darth Vader! Him breathing and speaking 🔊 gives you the chills! Iconic!!!
Wow!
James Earl Jones took the 7k then and missed out on the royalty points which would have made him millions on the first Star Wars “A New Hope”!!! Don’t worry folks, he has more than made up for it on all the sequels. My man has done just great on Star Wars and Darth Vader!!! Kudos to you James Earl Jones!!!
$7,000?!! Wowww. And the enterprise is worth billions now. smdh
Nobody thought it was gonna make any money when it first came out
@@davidlewis5189 And i know they feel STUPID
You got to understand that $7000 was a whole lot of money back then. Due to inflation, it would be a little over $33,000 today. Had it opted for the other option, he would have gotten a much smaller pay, like $1000 (if that) but would be getting residuals and stock.
Thank you for explaining what they explained in the video
Melody Hobson can give him backpay. Y'all look up my fav James Earl Jones movie, " THE VERNON JOHNS STORY!"
Nope,,, Earl made his choice .
I just have to say was dam James Earl Jones
Damn James 😪
You take a chance either way.
Man, imagine thinking about the major L you gave yourself every time you see anything star wars.
Damn Magic Johnson did the same thing
So, now both men are still alive and George to approach James to renegotiate a new contract.
A humble man with great integrity 👏 will win in the end and the benefits of their labor will return in spades years later...
