    The very fact that James Earl Jones is the voice of Darth Vader and is the voice of Mufassa. Both movies now under Disney. He 100% should get a lot of royalties. An entertainment lawyer should make sure he is set and his family is set. Losing is one thing but winning back is another. Especially when it comes to money.

      It's funny that you mentioned that about the Disney part. Jason Weaver (the actor from Drumline and the young Michael Jackson) was the young Simba voice... I watched an interview where he explained that his mother had him take the 10% versus like a flat-out 300,000 or something like that, and he ended up coming out on top...still making money to day because Disney ALWAYS re-releases the great ones...
      So yeah unfortunately a lot of people got screwed back in the day like Earl Jones but basically they had to believe in the success and longevity of whatever project they were in.
      I don't know, but something in me would make me, if I was that director, want to break him off something in the present because I wouldn't be sitting on my billions without him. But that's not how folks are thinking Hollywood... it's more like if you snooze you lose

      You should always bank on something you're in being a success, because you're in it. I wouldn't do a film if I think it's going to be a flop or mediocre. With that said, manage your money so you don't have to play it safe... or at least negotiate a combo deal. Half money flat rate n half points... I hate to see our people keep losing when it comes to money.

    • @sith06
      @sith06 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@iamtracywilson You're obviously young and don't know what you're talking about. Even t oday, most movies are not profitable. Back then sci-fi was not profitable. The top movies may have made 100,000,000 with most of the top 10 looking at between 20 to 50 million. The absolute best movies may have saw 150 to maybe 200 million. If you take points and the movie flops then you really get no money. And movies canflop for many reasons, including how it's edited or the studio may want a different ending, etc. Stop trying to judge and criticize something you clearly don't understand.

  • @iambounceback
    @iambounceback 2 ปีที่แล้ว +124

    Jones had to take his lick on this one. He didn't think the movie would do well and a lot of others didnt either. He signed up to get paid $7000 for 2.5 hours of work. Most people will do that right now! Plus back then $7k was a lot of money. There are a lot of people who have point deals on movies that flopped too and they wish they took the cash.
    This is why it is important for our people to try to get right financially so you can make those kind of long term investments instead of taking right-now offers.

      The problem is we are not educated on how to invest in our future.
      Like what happened to TLC
      People are happy that are getting paid to fulfill their dreams in acting or in the music industry.
      That they will be able to give their family a better life.
      Ray Charles was smart he didn't let his record company take advantage of him.
      Prince had to fight to get control of his music
      So many times we have heard someone especially in the music industry get cheated.
      Record companies always took advantage of people, because they knew that the person didn't know any better.
      Same thing happened to the Twinkle Clark from the Clark sisters
      The one who wrote for the gospel group
      She took a a deal and sold all the rights to her songs she wrote
      The Clark sisters mother was smart, their mother didn't know that her daughter had sold all her songs
      Her mother told her she should have never sold her songs.
      Every time she will hear her song being played like on a commercial, they record company is getting paid and not her.
      We are not taught or educated on what to do, how to invest in our future.

      @Masseur. Davis -
      She wasn't brilliant; she'd heard of Disney before. Weaver was paid $100k. In California at that time, that was over a year's working man's salary. And also at that time, Disney had very few flops at the box office, not to exclude Weaver career as a child actor had a little momentum at that time.
      James at that time was in a much different situation. Star Wars went into production on the heels of the global economic crash. Also, he was a Black actor where (a) roles were few and far between, (b) many film companies either went out of business, or tightened their wallets, and (c) film and stage actors in the U.S. and even in the U.K. were crossing the Atlanta looking for work. Hence the joke about Blacks Shakespearean actors doing Blaxploitation films.
      $7k (approx. $33k at that time) was very good money that could keep a working actor in a decent position until more stable work came along, because the yearly median household income was close to $15k, and you could buy a brand new car for around $5k.

      We are not taught or educated to know anything about business side of the entertainment world, like Jason's mom was
      People don't even think about educating themselves to know what to do.
      They trust these companies like Disney to do right by them.
      A lot of people are just trying to provide a better life for their parents or family.
      They don't know any better, like what happened to TLC.
      They where young adults in their early 20's and LA Reed and Pebbles did them wrong.
      Their parents didn't know anything about the business side of the music industry
      Reed and his wife Pebbles told them they didn't have anything to worry about they he would take care of them and he provided them with their own lawyers
      TLC and Toni Braxton believe and trust LA Reed
      Toni Braxton had to take Reed to court to get her money

    He could've renegotiated after A New Hope. His voice was the key to making of an icon, and definitely had clout to do so. Alec Guiness (Obi-Wan Kenobi) took up the percentage deal because he saw something special in the movie. I'm sure Ford, Fisher and (especially) Hamill done so after the first one. I blame his agent for not doing their fucking job.

    At least 5 people are responsible for the success of Darth Vader. Lucas, Prowse, Jones, the guy who designed the costume, and the guy who created the various noises (especially the respirator). These all came together to create the character, and perhaps a lot of other people also contributed to the success of the villain.
