Nice story, bro but I think we should also include Dwayne and Playboy X. Gerry mentioned that the McReary family wasn't only working for the italian mafia, but for black gangsters also. I think it means that they were regularly hired by Dwayne before he was inprisoned, and after they started to work for the Pegorinos.
I do recall Gerry saying they “worked for guineas, worked for [REDACTED]” (nah but man really dropped that hard r out of NOWHERE hahaha). Originally I planned to have some involvement regarding The Yardies, ie Little Jacob and Badman, but I figured the story was already getting too convoluted with all of these other GTA 4 characters I was already including. Didn’t really think of Dwayne or Playboy, but I could definitely see them being involved here. Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Dwayne get put away around 1998 (which is when this fictional story takes place)? At the very least, I could see some good side missions with them being included, and maybe Gerald could somehow be involved in Dwayne going down
@@justsomeguy747 I think with Toni, the reason he’s so bulky in GTA 3 is because everyone from his mom to Salvatore kept telling him he was too skinny in LCS
@@DougTheDog6 Yeah, in a similar vein to CJ, who was mentioned to be bigger before slimming down, Ma Cipriani criticized him for being too thin, Maria noted he was thin and Salvatore out of genuine concern noted he was thin. I think it's a reference/homage to the dude Fat Tony from the Sopranos (I think).
I thought of a Russian mafia prequel story. Maybe how the events turn the Faustin family from a family of loyal Russian criminal men to a downfall type family
I really like that idea of that, that could be another great story. Plus it could be interesting to see Dimitri go from being the main antagonist of GTA 4 to perhaps the secondary character of a prequel, kind of like Lance Vance from Vice City to VCS
My "GTA 4" prequel story would be how "Dwayne Forge" rised from a (Fictional Harlem) street hustler to getting busted to how he lost his girlfriend "Sharice" catching her in bed with his rival enemy then finally lead up to him meeting "Niko".... 😊🤔😊🤔😊🤔😊🤔😊
Playing as Jacob in Broker, The McRearys in Dukes, Jim/or Phil in Algonquin/Aldreney and Elizabeta in Bohan would've been interesting. I actually really like that idea, I wish someone can make a custom story mod for GTA 4 like people did for San Andreas.
I wonder if it could be executed properly though. The most prominent issue I have with games like that is that you don't really get much time to get attached to the characters you're playing and your surroundings, because at the point you do start caring about them the game suddenly changes chapter and introduces a new character with a completely different background than the previous one. I'd say it's more safe to stick to 2 protagonists in one game like that.
A few other people have been suggesting that, but that was definitely my second choice. I’m thinking I’ll probably revisit this topic one day and take a stab at giving Dwayne his prequel since there’s so much story to tell between him, Playboy, Cherise, and Jayvon
Another story with GTA IV I'd like to see if we had an option to deny Dimitri's offer to kill Faustin. Not every single mission would need to change, but a fair share of them would lead to a completely different storyline I believe. Maybe Petrovic would arrive sooner and would be more of a threat than Bulgarin and Dimitri. I don't say that Niko would continue working for Faustin, after he seemed rather displeased with driving a truck that's full of explosives, however he wouldn't betray him, maybe even warn him after that meet with Dimitri. The question is however how differently could Niko react to an information that he is spared as long as he kills Faustin, because it only seems natural that he kills him, hoping to be out of Petrovic's kill list. I guess this needs more thinking than I initially thought.
This is such a well thought out and fascinating idea! 1998 would be the ideal year this game would be set in. That’s Roman’s first year in America, after all. And maybe when Packie is arrested, we could probably see Dwayne and Luis Lopez as a cameo. Or maybe Gerry could be involved in a mission where he’s in a rivalry against Luis, Armando and Henrique doing a drug run and Gerry and some possible allies like Gordon get away whilst Luis ends up arrested and incarcerated. Idk how long Luis was behind bars, but it would be cool to see him before his incarceration and partnership with Gay Tony. You’ve earned a subscriber!
Thank you bro! Yeah 1998 ended up being the perfect year to set this considering how much stuff apparently goes down during that year according to the LCPD Database. I didn’t realize that was Roman’s first year in America either, so I guess I got really lucky that I didn’t set things one year prior haha. I like your idea with Luis and co as well, that’d be very interesting to see the McRearys interact with characters originally from the EFLC DLCs
@@DougTheDog6 And do you know what would’ve been funny? In one of the missions where you work for Francis, Gerry starts by witnessing Francis in the middle of arresting someone and then he bastardizes the Miranda Rights by saying “You have the right to shut the f@ck up. Anything you say is sh!t. You have the right to an attorney. If you can’t afford one, you’re a poor bastard!” And then Gerry just shakes his head. That “Anything you say is sh!t” line is taken from one of the cop quotes from GTA III.
Great video! I was always intrigued by the idea of a City Stories style game for GTAIV but had always imagined it being about Dwayne Forge and the creation of his crack empire in the mid 1990s.
I also considered Dwayne, and he’s definitely a good candidate, especially with the history we’re given between him and Playboy X in GTA 4. But I think one of the reasons I went in a different direction is because it would’ve felt like you were playing San Andreas’ story in Liberty City if that makes sense. Although, now that I’m thinking about it more, Dwayne’s story actually is a lot more different than CJ’s so I’m sure it would still make for a great game of its own. Maybe I’ll revisit this topic at some point
honestly, GTA IV not getting a prequel is one of my main issues with Chinatown Wars (besides the top-down gameplay not being for me, which i could forgive) like, Chinatown Wars had the perfect opportunity to expand on the GTA IV lore, heck there already was a Chinatown war going on in the game (and its DLCs) but instead it chose to be a stand-alone story that takes place years after the events.. that is just my personal biased opinion, but i do believe it could've been a much more impactful game if it went down that route
5:07 you can find Huang Lee's profile in the police database among other Chinatown Wars characters in Gta 4 and Zhou Ming(mission giver)'s gang was the one Niko and Packie stole the truck,Brucie and Manny are also mentioned via their businesses
@@victordoesyoutube Given the information we have to work with, Gerald started committing crimes at the age of 13 or earlier, and with Packie being younger than him and looking up to Gerald, plus the fact that their father was a criminal who essentially put them down this path, it wouldn’t be surprising if Packie became a criminal around this age as well. That being said, I don’t think you can make a Grand Theft Auto game about children or even teenagers. Hell, I was iffy on even including Kate here since she’d only be about 17 or 18 at the time of this story. However, perhaps a Bully sequel where we get to play as Packie would make for a pretty interesting game. Packie does mention in a hangout in GTA 4 that he used to be good at drawing when he was younger, but his talent was discouraged by his father, so that could be something interesting to explore as well
I would love if we had a GTA IV stories where we play as little Jacob or badman establishing the yardies gang in liberty city, we could add a drug dealing system like Chinatown wars in it and turf like San Andreas.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see Liberty City’s own version of the Twin Towers. I’m just saying there might be some people who would prefer not to think of those events, even after all these years, so that might be a fair reason to omit them
@@DougTheDog6 absolutely, as much as would LOVE to see them dominate the skyline. I highly doubt Rockstar would want to face possible ridicule from those (families of the victims) that still deem those towers appearance in media as uncomfortable (I totally understand). But it does seem to me that the hurt of those attacks seems to be subsiding as I’ve seen the Twin Towers appearing in more and more recent media. There’s almost a nostalgia or yearning for original World Trade Center complex I suppose.
You know, I had this thought for a while too that a Stories game should follow Gerry. Phil could also be a good candidate, and you see from the jobs Niko does with him that he is experienced in all types of weapons and criminal activities. Phil and Ray both likely had a similar background to that of Toni as they both became close associates of their Don through hard work. With Gerry, I think that his story could focus on the attempted return to prominence of the McReary gang but ultimate failure, with the gang not having the power they wanted due to Mikhail Faustin and Kenny Petrovic’s expansion in Broker and other mob families also being troublesome. It could also show how Gerry met Ray and Jimmy and explain the dirt he has on Francis and why he was forced to lay low in the first place.
I actually thought of having the Faustin Mafiya be the antagonizing force in this story instead of the Gambettis, but I think I went with the latter because I’m pretty sure the Faustins were still in Russia at this time (or if they weren’t, they would probably be too small at this time to be a real threat), but also because GTA 4 already had them as the main antagonist and I wanted to change things up a bit. Still though, I like the ideas you brought up
@@DougTheDog6 Yes, they probably were still in Russia at the time, just thought to myself that a Gerry-prequel could make sense to take place a bit less than a decade and show some of the hardships he endured more recently and probably shed light on his father’s death as well as explain why he is forced to lay low. Your ideas were pretty good though but I wonder to myself about the Gambettis, because I doubt they would let the McRearys meddle with their business.
I don't understand why they couldn't add the original world trade center complex to a grand theft auto rendition of Liberty City set before 2001. The world trade center wasn't the problem. It was the horrific terrorist attacks that took place that day. The people who would most likely be the most offended or upset by the presence of the original world trade center are not the type of people to me, at least, that I think would be playing a grand theft auto game.
The way I see things is it isn’t up to us on how people should feel about things like the World Trade Center because we aren’t the ones who lost family members during that time (or at least I’m making the assumption that you didn’t either). Even though it’s been over 20 years since those events, I wouldn’t be surprised if there were people who still play GTA nowadays who would prefer not to have to be reminded of a time when they lost parents or siblings when they’re just trying to play a fun game
A Phil Bell prequel would be phenomenal as a full fledged new GTA game, i imagine you could have him in the present day like Saul Goodman turning into Gene Takovic.
I like it, especially the details you used from the base game but just a couple notes I always got the impression that either Gordon or Michael were relatively new to the family in 2008, since they have a dialogue exchange in a mission where one of them explains to Niko the story of the Mcreary family being big time and how he's heard the story hundreds of times, just seemed like he joined the family well after this time Also when Packie introduced Niko to Gerry he says something like "I met him through that Puerto Rican dealer" or something, if Gerry knew Elizabeta and did a bunch of missions for her Packie would've just named her instead of saying "that dealer I know" just seems like Gerry and Elizabeta don't know each other I may be completely wrong here but Italian Mafia families generally frowned upon getting involved with drugs as a business, they don't have this issue in 2008 but in a prequel game it would probably be closer to the time when they would, this could be shown in the game as all of the 5 families doing it on the down low to not effect their reputation in the criminal world and could be an interesting dynamic but for them to be doing it openly would be questionable Also I'm sure a large game would have more branching lines of missions than described here but there's only 1 new character, even TLaD and TBoGT had new characters unrelated to Niko and his story, needs more expansion Final point: what is the point? The thing that sets apart GTA 4 for me from any other GTA game is the darker and more detailed story focusing more on its themes and dissection of character of Niko. Every other GTA game is just "start as a thug, become a boss" Niko is different, he grew up in a war committing crimes against humanity and throughout the story becomes more and more unredeemable and cynical in the eyes of the player, contrasted very well by Roman. He's such an interesting character due to all of this and that sets him apart from other GTA protagonists. Gerry has potential here but you have 2 main issues with this idea, 1. There needs to be a solid reason for telling the story that isn't just for the sake of making a new game (LCS and VCS pretty much have this issue too) and 2. The classic prequel issue, RDR 2 and Better Call Saul solve this by making the prequel add so much more context to their original stories that it feels worthwhile making a prequel, you can do the same with this. Maybe a story where Gerry takes over the McReary crime family while at full strength from their dad or uncle of something would be cool to see, the story starts with a succession of power to Gerry but it's very clear that Derrick is more capable of a fighter/leader but is busy in Ireland, Francis is a cop and Packie is a young dumb fuck up so it's left to Gerry as the best of a bad bunch. The story would follow him taking on the responsibility he's not ready for and introducing loads of new characters directly in the crime family and associated with it that Gerry either gets killed or betrays/cuts ties with through questionable situations where it's not necessarily his fault but he's unable to hold the power and influence given to him. This would add more context to the familys situation in GTA4, having only a few members left doing odd jobs for bigger crime families and wasting the money they get from that because they know they're incapable of growing as a criminal organisation. This would also give more context for Gerry as a leader/mission giver in GTA4, he seems capable of coming up with a simple plan and executing it in GTA4, even co-ordinating it all from prison, this is due to his time as the family leader and learning from the many many mistakes he'll make in his own game's story but obviously by the time 2008 comes it's too late for Gerry to use any of this wisdom since he already decimated the family through his bad leadership and decision making. Just to stress the point, the "bad decisions" should be fallout quest style decisions where there really was no right answer at the time. Example: The Mcrearys steal a coke shipment from one of the 5 families to sell to another, pre-arranged, the receiving family is expecting a big payout from the McRearys, the family they are stealing from catches them and Gerry has to decide to either: Return the coke and work off their debt to the family for trying to steal it but piss off the other family or sell the coke to the other family and try to negotiate power/protection from the family they stole from. Something like that more obviously more nuanced. Basically put Gerry in lose-lose situations where a better more capable leader with a stronger more loyal family would be able to make it work but Gerry is inexperienced and doesn't have reliable brothers to help him This would all also reflect Niko's characterisation, showing how a younger Gerry was put into a position he wasn't ready for and how that shaped him into the cynical asshole he is in 2008 You're right, there's a lot of potential here and with a time shift you can make liberty city feel like a completely different place, just like how TBoGT did with just a perspective change I could talk about this all day
If you really wanted to connect this story to GTA 4 thematically you could focus more on the succession element within the family, like I say, the family patriarch before Gerry passing the torch to him (probably dying) but probably not his dad, maybe an uncle or grandfather we don't even hear about in GTA4 (which would make sense with the context of the prequel story and it's main theme I'm about to describe) Show how this last leader of the family built it up from nothing and focused on the money and the power over his blood family while chasing the American dream and succeeded while neglecting to instill the same values in his grandchildren/next generation of the family. Each McReary brother responds to this differently. Derrick is inspired by it all and goes back to Ireland to bite off more than he can chew and becomes a smack head. Packie goes the hedonistic route and just lives for pleasure funded by the previous generations success not worrying about maintaining it. Francis rejects it completely in a very 21st century liberal ideological way of being ashamed of his families success and wanting to use that to spread goodness to the rest of the world but is obviously torn due to his nature as a McReary (referenced by Packie in GTA4 and shown by his underhanded tactics as a cop employing Niko as a contract killer) Gerry is more of a reasonable middle ground, level headed and the most likely to carry the torch and make the families successes last but as I say, fucks it up through the story. After all of this and the families downfall it makes sense that the first leader who built the family from nothing just for it to be destroyed by his offspring's bad leadership would hardly be remembered but 20ish years later
@@whitty6341Those are some really good ideas. Like I said in the video, there’s so much potential for a McReary-based story, and you’re proving it. Thank you for pointing out that detail about Elizabeta btw. For all the research I’ve done over the past few months for my last couple of videos, I completely glossed over the way Packie refers to her when talking to Gerald. As for Michael or Gordon, I know exactly what you’re talking about with them hearing that story a million times. I personally interpreted that as how Gerald’s talked about the glory days so much over the past so many years that they’ve gotten tired of hearing it. If it was more recently that they joined, I don’t think they’d exaggerate as much about how much Gerry’s talked about the old days. Even if they did join more recently though, I still liked the idea of including them in this story just to connect a few more connectable dots lol. As for the lack of new characters, I completely agree with you here. Even as I was writing this, I noticed that the only new character I included was Devin/Tommaso, but again, I think that came down to there being so many other connections I wanted to make using the original game since there’s so many great characters to work with. More new characters could definitely be squeezed into this narrative though, be it through side missions or just somewhere in between the gaps I tried to leave. I’m really glad I got to read your comment btw! That tells me I’m doing something right if my video got you to type ALL of that out haha. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
The Mafia has always been in the drug business. Back then they were openly against it, but that was simply a deterrent. They didn't want every wise guy dealing drugs because that comes with big prison sentences, which would then lead to informants. Basically, don't deal drugs, but *if* you do, do *not* get caught and share your cut with the Don. Ever since the RICO crackdowns in the 80s and 90s, drug dealing is one of the sources of income that the mob relies on.
It would be cool to see the prequel about Vlad, this is a definitely underestimated character. And Mikhail’s phone call to Vlad would've begun like this: "Hey, fatty-vladdy yokel, it's Mikhail, come to the Perestroyka!"
Likewise. Became a second lieutenant in the army and I couldn’t be more thankful, just wish nothing but success to you and to your career on TH-cam. Don’t give up, you definitely have the potential to grow big, I for one can attest to your eagerness to have a huge platform one day and I promise that you will do so, so long as you put in the work. Good luck and I wish you nothing but success. P.S. It’s been 8 years, can you believe that? 8 years since UPWA. Wow.
I don't wanna think about how long it's been hahaha. And that's awesome man! Keep up the damn good work and make your country proud. I appreciate your words brother
I think it would be interesting if gta 4 gets a prequel called gta 4 stories, it would be centered around gerry in his younger years running with the irish mob in liberty city i think he would definitely fit for a gta protagonist because he's violent but also cares about his family
Rockstar probably counts TBOGT and TLAD as GTAIV stories lol, I wish they capitalized on the “stories” titles we need a SanAndreas stories and in my opinion a Manhunt: Stories, where we see why James was on death row.
We basically had GTA 4 Stories with EFLC DLC (TLaD and TBoGT) I know the events take around the same time instead of before but they do add more context to the overall story of GTA 4 as a whole.
You’re correct, we do have EFLC and they do a great job at intertwining their stories with that of the base game, but when I say “GTA 4 Stories”, I’m mainly talking about a prequel, like how LCS was a prequel for GTA 3 and VCS was a prequel for Vice City
@@DougTheDog6 yeah I figured but I feel like it wasn't necessary from Rockstar's POV be cause of the DLCs and they never made a GTA San Andreas stories so this was already unlikely and since EFLC was already planned before the release of GTA 4 that means that Rockstar most likely never even considered a prequel or GTA 4 Stories sadly.
@@alvzcizzler I agree with you, it wasn’t necessary, but it would still be really cool if we got it. And just because they never considered giving GTA 4 a prequel doesn’t mean we couldn’t get one. Just look at Red Dead Redemption. As far as I know at least, Rockstar likely didn’t have plans to give the first game a prequel, but look at the masterpiece they created when they did
@@DougTheDog6 Yeah I guess they could but very unlikely at this point with GTA 6 taking over a decade, sadly even a remaster for GTA 4 seems uncertain even though the game needs it and deserves it, hopefully we get a remaster of GTA 4 and EFLC as a GTA 4 Definite Edition or something, remastering the GTA 4 Complete Edition which includes EFLC, I think it's possible they'll do it but hopefully it's Rockstar themselves who do it and not Groce Street Games but the GTA Trilogy DE was a bad remaster and buggy.
You could actually make this idea into a playable storyline with GTA SA's DYOM and the "GTA 2.5" Liberty City map mod. The mod is compatible with a lot of other mods so you could change graphics, physics, character models, weapons, vehicles, filter/color tone, etc. DYOM is a little limited but it supports audio, so there's a lot you could do with it if you put enough effort.
I thought about trying to DYOM this story through San Andreas, but idk, I don’t think it feels right if we don’t get to use GTA 4’s physics or have to use the 3D version of Liberty City. That being said, if anybody wants to go for it, go for it and let me know so I can see it haha
If we were trying to tell niko's story then gta 4 stories can tell his story back in his home country and how he became the person he is in the events of gta 4 especially how darko ruined him
I think the idea in general is marvellous. It fits a niche in some awesome ways, and it's completely in line with the other R* releases/game set-ups. I actually misread the duration, only registering the 8. So initially I thought it would only be about breaking a lance for the concept. And eve tho I already was on board asa I processed the title, but was curious to your reasoning. After I read the 'skip to 7.10', realising it'd be more than 8min, I was in for a pleasant surprise. The story is good, although it needs some more depth. An odd factor. Id say add some of the many weirdo's stories, like that guy who has this bodyguard play one distorted chord through a Marshall tower (you probably did, I forgot his name). That Mc Reary beother you picked, meh. Not at all a _bad choice_ storywise, but nowadays it would be more in it's place with a female protagonist. But that's just that. The way you let the story evolve, dug up possible history's strengthens your case, and the alternate timeline you suggest in general is well thought through. Kinda impressive tbh. Cause it made me think "I could have thought of that" (which is usually a sign of an idea 's potential). And that argument about bringing Liberty City to 4k, yeah of course. Makes perfect sense, and it's something people would pick up on for sure. I must admit I am a bit biased, cause I like the story of IV better than V's. Also, I recently started again, for the third or fourth time. For the title, yeah it's tricky. But I'd go with something like; "GERALD" _A GTA IV SAGA_ Not very original, ripped from the mad Max flick, but that's what came to mind, and for good reason. Conceptually it is strong because in those terms there could be a lot more "stories" created. Very interesting, I want to see where this goes. Do you really think it could be done with/by/through mods?
@@honderdzeventien I like the idea of adding stranger missions, got nothing against that, but I was mainly going about the main plot here. I’d love to see more strangers roaming around LC though, and the possibilities for them are endless. I’m not against having a female protagonist either, so long as the narrative calls for one. For example, I brought up the idea of using Elizabeta as the main character for this story, and I believe her story of building up *her* empire in Bohan has a lot of potential. Having a female protagonist for the sake of it being female, I’m not so keen on that personally. Again though, someone like Elizabeta has a great enough backstory that she could easily lead a game like this of her own. Plus, like I think I said in the video, I love the McReary family so I personally would like to see a story centered around them as opposed to any other characters. I like your idea for the title as well, I was also thinking as I read it that it could be a good format for giving other characters their own stories. As for whether or not recreating this story would be possible through mods is anybody’s guess. I don’t know as much about GTA 4’s modding scene as I do about other games like San Andreas’, so I can’t say if GTA 4’s scene is advanced enough to where something like this could be made. Like in San Andreas, I’m sure this could be possible through DYOM, but I know GTA 4 doesn’t have that option, and idk how complex total conversions are for it either. I’d like to believe it’s possible, although even if it is, it’s unlikely that it could be fully fleshed out due to an inability to create advanced animations and a lack of voice actors (of course, AI is an option nowadays, but even that’s still pretty finicky). But I’d like to believe it could be possible. Also, thanks for watching and giving your feedback! I’m glad you enjoyed the video and wanted to share your opinion
@@DougTheDog6 no thanks, I like to think along in creative processes. I did consider what you say in the first two paragraphs. The first is rather obvious, of course you're focusing on a mainline. I think I meant to say the example should have a Renée like in VCS, and I'm sure it would get one. And I do understand that in this case, or with this example, which is focused on _your_ (great) thought up story, talk about a totally different protagonist isn't relevant. What you reflect on the gender side, yeah that's true too. It's all in, and/or about, putting down a stream of consciousness in words. Stuff gets passed by, nuances get lost, in the name of trying to keep it short. (Which I clearly can't. But hey, that's okay I guess, cause I'm a writer;-) I like to add a thing that popped up a bit later; why not just write the story into a book, or script if you will. You know, the way a lot the wh40k stuff is done. I'd buy it. If you ask kindly, I can't see why R* would refuse tbh. Tho I also can imagine they will unfortunately. On the other hand, seeing the succes of the wh40k approach they might be open to it. I think it just hasn't been done yet. Thanks, your welcome and all of that
@@kkeanu5032 Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories are prequels of GTA 3 and Vice City, respectively, because they take place *before* those games. TLaD and TBoGT take place *during* GTA 4. Yes, we have EFLC, and those stories are great, but I’m specifically giving an idea for a prequel
While listening to the story, the only thing that I was thinking about was that it’d make for a great total comversion mod! Why don’t you try to contact some mod devs, you might have the next big idea to further prolong the lifespan of this amazing game!
Dude I was thinking the same thing while writing this story hahaha. I’ll be honest, while I was making this, I’ve kind of been secretly hoping that some modders will see this and will want to recreate it because I wanna play it so bad hahaha
@@DougTheDog6 yea that could be a really cool movie. Make it like Superbad style maybe. Video game movies are generally trash but I belive rockstar could be the ones to pull it off properly!
As I say in the video, both of those games take place *during* the events of GTA 4. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love those games’ stories and I’m still amazed at how well Rockstar was able to intertwine them with the base game’s story. I’m just saying here that it would be cool if we *also* got a prequel like this in addition to EFLC
Why do i get the feeling this new character is actually a younger devon weston? Idk. Might just be because i have only beaten 5, working on 4 and the episodes, also wouldnt roman be in liberty city already?
@@losisansgaming2628 I definitely had Devin Weston somewhat on my mind while writing this just because of the name they share, but this Devin is not the same as the one in GTA 5 lol. Also yes, 1998 (the year in which I’ve set this story) is the year that Roman arrives in Liberty City, which is why I decided to give him a cameo in one of the missions I talked about
I plan to one day, but the top down perspective really turns me off. But I've seen gameplay of it and have heard really good things overall, so I definitely wanna play it at some point
The DLCs take place at the same time as the main story. What I’m suggesting is a story set before the events of GTA 4 that would provide context as to how certain characters ended up where they were in 2008, like how LCS did for some of the characters in GTA 3 and how VCS did the same for some of Vice City’s characters
Thanks for watching! What do you think of the idea of a GTA 4 prequel? Would you want a different protagonist, or would you have taken Gerald McReary's story in a different direction? Let me know!

At the very least, I could see some good side missions with them being included, and maybe Gerald could somehow be involved in Dwayne going down
Great fan lore
Take Two is already talking to their lawyer to sue you for the rights to it so no one can make it a reality.
@@WJINTL The greatest compliment a GTA fan can receive nowadays is a cease and desist from Take Two hahaha
Phil would get the Vic Vance treatment where he's inexplicably much more fit in the prequel.
@@tylertheguy3160 Hahaha I could 100% see that and I love it
Actually Toni Cipriani is guilty of the same thing
@@DougTheDog6 yeah and you can have the protagonist be that guy that Mikhail shoots when he meets niko
My "GTA 4" prequel story would be how "Dwayne Forge" rised from a (Fictional Harlem) street hustler to getting busted to how he lost his girlfriend "Sharice" catching her in bed with his rival enemy then finally lead up to him meeting "Niko"....
😊🤔😊🤔😊🤔😊🤔😊
I always felt Patrick should have had his own game since he was involved in both the bank heist and the diamond story.
And the story of packie brother derrick back when he was in ireland and the uk
If there would be a GTA IV prequel story, the protagonist should be Little Jacob.
I'd say it's more safe to stick to 2 protagonists in one game like that.
for a GTA 4 prequel it should be set in the early to mid 90s playing as Young Dwayne Forge focusing on his Drug Empire.
A few other people have been suggesting that, but that was definitely my second choice. I’m thinking I’ll probably revisit this topic one day and take a stab at giving Dwayne his prequel since there’s so much story to tell between him, Playboy, Cherise, and Jayvon
I would’ve loved to hear more about Little Jacob’s story. His personality stuck with me for than any other character in the series
@@codenameulp1495 Considering how easily I read that in Francis’ voice, I could absolutely see that haha
Nice. I swear I love GTA 4 more than I probably should. Rockstar’s pretty much always been cooking, but this era specifically i look on fondly.
EFLC is 4 stories 4 stories would be 4 aftermath or prologue
honestly, GTA IV not getting a prequel is one of my main issues with Chinatown Wars (besides the top-down gameplay not being for me, which i could forgive)
like, Chinatown Wars had the perfect opportunity to expand on the GTA IV lore, heck there already was a Chinatown war going on in the game (and its DLCs) but instead it chose to be a stand-alone story that takes place years after the events.. that is just my personal biased opinion, but i do believe it could've been a much more impactful game if it went down that route

just clicked the video but a GTA 4 stories with Packie and how he and his brothers get into a life of crime would be pretty cool
The WTF Twin Towers would make a great addition to a pre-2001 Liberty City map.
There’s almost a nostalgia or yearning for original World Trade Center complex I suppose.
you write better stories than 99.9% of modern games
how about Grand Theft Auto 4: The Mcreary Story
I would’ve liked a Chinatown wars but like actual console one

In the police records on the website / police computer does actually reference the ctw characters and main characters
Pretty good story idea, I liked it.
I like it, especially the details you used from the base game but just a couple notes
I always got the impression that either Gordon or Michael were relatively new to the family in 2008, since they have a dialogue exchange in a mission where one of them explains to Niko the story of the Mcreary family being big time and how he's heard the story hundreds of times, just seemed like he joined the family well after this time
Also when Packie introduced Niko to Gerry he says something like "I met him through that Puerto Rican dealer" or something, if Gerry knew Elizabeta and did a bunch of missions for her Packie would've just named her instead of saying "that dealer I know" just seems like Gerry and Elizabeta don't know each other
I may be completely wrong here but Italian Mafia families generally frowned upon getting involved with drugs as a business, they don't have this issue in 2008 but in a prequel game it would probably be closer to the time when they would, this could be shown in the game as all of the 5 families doing it on the down low to not effect their reputation in the criminal world and could be an interesting dynamic but for them to be doing it openly would be questionable
Also I'm sure a large game would have more branching lines of missions than described here but there's only 1 new character, even TLaD and TBoGT had new characters unrelated to Niko and his story, needs more expansion
Final point: what is the point?
Basically put Gerry in lose-lose situations where a better more capable leader with a stronger more loyal family would be able to make it work but Gerry is inexperienced and doesn't have reliable brothers to help him
This would all also reflect Niko's characterisation, showing how a younger Gerry was put into a position he wasn't ready for and how that shaped him into the cynical asshole he is in 2008
You're right, there's a lot of potential here and with a time shift you can make liberty city feel like a completely different place, just like how TBoGT did with just a perspective change
I could talk about this all day
If you really wanted to connect this story to GTA 4 thematically you could focus more on the succession element within the family, like I say, the family patriarch before Gerry passing the torch to him (probably dying) but probably not his dad, maybe an uncle or grandfather we don't even hear about in GTA4 (which would make sense with the context of the prequel story and it's main theme I'm about to describe)
Show how this last leader of the family built it up from nothing and focused on the money and the power over his blood family while chasing the American dream and succeeded while neglecting to instill the same values in his grandchildren/next generation of the family.
Each McReary brother responds to this differently. Derrick is inspired by it all and goes back to Ireland to bite off more than he can chew and becomes a smack head. Packie goes the hedonistic route and just lives for pleasure funded by the previous generations success not worrying about maintaining it. Francis rejects it completely in a very 21st century liberal ideological way of being ashamed of his families success and wanting to use that to spread goodness to the rest of the world but is obviously torn due to his nature as a McReary (referenced by Packie in GTA4 and shown by his underhanded tactics as a cop employing Niko as a contract killer)
Gerry is more of a reasonable middle ground, level headed and the most likely to carry the torch and make the families successes last but as I say, fucks it up through the story.
Damn, thats amazing!! Love this concept

Maybe if we wait long enough we will get it just like GTA San Andreas Stories that’s coming out.
Obviously the GTA 4 stories game we need is Manny's back story
GTA 4 and their DLCs take place on Fall 2007 so a GTA 4 stories would probably take place in 2005 at the latest and 2002 at the earliest in my opinion
For the title, yeah it's tricky. But I'd go with something like;
"GERALD"
_A GTA IV SAGA_
Not very original, ripped from the mad Max flick, but that's what came to mind, and for good reason.
But hey, that's okay I guess, cause I'm a writer;-)
I like to add a thing that popped up a bit later; why not just write the story into a book, or script if you will.
Thanks, your welcome and all of that
they have episodes from liberty city which is very well liked. if those arent prequels or "stories" of the game then idk what all the other ones are.
gta v is the only one to not have this concept as they have three characters already
You oughta reach out to the modding community so they can help make this idea into a conversion mod
Dunno how you would make the cutscenes though
what about gta san andreas stories a shame.
@@DougTheDog6could you imagine 😮
I’d like to see a GTA comic book, TV show, movie or novel. Same with red dead. Tarantino should do a GTA movie for his 10th film.
@@Flowerz__ That’d be sick. I’ve always wanted to see Bully turned into a movie
@@DougTheDog6 yea that could be a really cool movie. Make it like Superbad style maybe. Video game movies are generally trash but I belive rockstar could be the ones to pull it off properly!
@@DougTheDog6 LA Noire movie or mini series would do huge numbers too
Give them the creative control they need and I guarantee they could change the game with a blockbuster film
what. we didnt need one we had tbogt and tlad
As I say in the video, both of those games take place *during* the events of GTA 4. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love those games’ stories and I’m still amazed at how well Rockstar was able to intertwine them with the base game’s story. I’m just saying here that it would be cool if we *also* got a prequel like this in addition to EFLC
tbogt & tlad were expansions taking place at the same time as gta 4, a prequel would be a totally separate game taking place YEARS before.
Also yes, 1998 (the year in which I’ve set this story) is the year that Roman arrives in Liberty City, which is why I decided to give him a cameo in one of the missions I talked about
I think Ray Bulgarin could return before he was deported maybe
man u gotta play chinatown wars. unironically top 3 gta game and i’ve played everything after gta 2
I plan to one day, but the top down perspective really turns me off. But I've seen gameplay of it and have heard really good things overall, so I definitely wanna play it at some point
@@DougTheDog6 thats a terrible reason to not play it lol
It calls the Episodes from Liberty city

The gta 4 dlcs feels like gta 4 stories
We did, it was called Episodes From Liberty City LMAO
@@SHDW-nf2ki 1:59
Can we get that San Andreas Stories that was cancelled 🤷🏾♂️
Cancel GTA VI, they should make GTA 4 Stories instead
/s we already have Episodes from Liberty City for that, having TLAD and TBOGT
What if we got GTA 6 Stories
🤯
What if we had Episodes from Los Santos?
That’d be pretty sick. I know Rockstar initially planned to do single player DLCs for GTA 5, but I believe they got repurposed for GTA Online instead
W video Doug!!!!
They prolly never did prequel cuz ballad of gay Tony and lost and damned
dude i got really good news for you dude
What would that be?
@@DougTheDog6 episodes from liberty city
@@FamiliarReece 1:59
It did?
wouldn't that just be the dlc?
The DLCs take place at the same time as the main story. What I’m suggesting is a story set before the events of GTA 4 that would provide context as to how certain characters ended up where they were in 2008, like how LCS did for some of the characters in GTA 3 and how VCS did the same for some of Vice City’s characters
No
we need a remaster. And a story like you say!!! What a lazy worthless company
Bro gta literally had a stories
What is your accent?
@@cantnevercould9660 Midwestern white guy? Idk, I’m from Detroit lmao
@@DougTheDog6 Nice. I heard your voice and thought you had a bit of that NCVS accent.
Anyway, great video.

This game is old bro 😂let the masterpiece be
Gta 4 "stories" = TBoGT and Lost and Damned. How did you not catch up? What are you smoking bro? xDD

That would be cool actually.
