Very good video. I recommend focusing a bit less on the story recap part and focus more on the themes of the game and character analysis, and also you should go very deep into what separates the game from the others in the same series or genre. Overall, very good video, 8.75 / 10

Great points. Sweet really is a misunderstood character who is very loyal and care about his gang and family. So he shouldn't take so much crap. Sweet isn't useless at all. If anything, Ryder is the one who is and he should be taken out of the game and its story entirely since he was/is the most pointless character of the entire game. I know you know the game's storyline would have been perfect if Ryder was taken out of it entirely because he ruined the entire first half of the game for all of us by dragging it down with his stupid dialogue and annoying voice.

Thanks for the video, my choice was still on the side of killing Francis. As many have pointed out, Niko, I didn't like him at all, this lying in Bellic's eyes that he is a holy man, it was a trigger for me, a slug. Derrek can't be called a positive character at all, he is a snitch, in some ways a weak person who found himself in drugs, but what is also a trigger in my opinion is that, after all, his family loved him, when Francis was killed, no one except mother, had no sympathy. Plus, if you've been in a friendly relationship with Pucky for a long time, you can understand that Derek was with his demons, but Francis is purely a man without principles, he even wanted to steal money as a priest.

Sweet was born from a generation that didn’t value sensitivity or being in touch with their feelings. In a place where you have to be tough as iron to survive Showing how he cares about his family is of the “tough love” variety and like you said. He goes about things in a wrong way (however I think CJ should’ve clued him in on the fact that his government benefactor pulled strings for Sweet to get released.) Regarding the racism/bigotry in real life the race relations between African Americans and Mexican Americans in Southern California is very tense due to the gang and prison politics that boil into the streets. Sweet may be concerned about the “other/outsider”, but if he actually bothered to get to know Cesar a lot of stuff could’ve been different. Good vid man!

you know the problem is story not sweet sa story is almost very unfinished and broken - r* didn't have time had to release the game in right time they didn't care about him too much unlike smoke,ryder. - sweet was probably going to more important character he had more dialogues that was unused and deleted from game files to reduce * size of the game it was already going to be on 2 discs (* means i added those texts with editing comment) - in the last if ps2 was powerful console and they had more time we could see better sweet and many beta things that was cut in the game. they didn't care about sweet too much just how didn't care about ryder and killed him because of problems with his voice actor.

Honestly, I can never bring myself to hate Sweet. I don't even think he's a useless leader, the game just puts too much emphasis on CJ's importance to the hood, which is understandable since he is the protagonist and the game wants the player to feel like their hard work means something. If Sweet did most of the work, we wouldn't even have missions! So by that logic, anyone who gives you missions in GTA is useless because they don't do it themselves. Also people get on Sweet's case for not being a good leader but apparently when Cesar's gang fell apart after "The Green Sabre", nobody calls out Cesar for being a "bad leader" (granted he was also doing it to protect Kendl but still). And like you said, Sweet doesn't seem to have a problem with CJ having a life outside of the Grove, he just doesn't want him to forget it or let it fall to pieces. This line in the Los Desperados cutscene says it all "All your brother wants you to do is payback your debts CJ". I think the problem is that Rockstar didn't give him the development he needed in the final part of the game. Even one line of dialogue during a phone call would've made a difference. So yeah, Sweet is a flawed character but I just can't get behind all the hate he gets.

One thing i think you should have made a section on is just how good big smokes betrayal really was to the point where i honestly think the only other game that rivals it is the original mw2 with general shepherd killing ghost and roach. Nowadays everyone can see its faults with ryder not really fitting in the scene real well but besides that it was actually done really well because big smoke was such a likeable character that by that point of the green sabre we all thought we were going to ride with the grove street homies untill the end of the game but when the betrayal is revealed the game transform from a gangster simulator to a professional criminal game which i think they did really nicely apart from some choices i think they should have written better (ryders death comes to mind) also as a side note this video deserves way more views for the effort you put in it

I think it was sweets writing rather than sweet himself. Instead of complaining about cj making a better life for himself at homecoming he should have instead complained about cj not giving a fuck about getting revenge for smoke killing his mom and siding with the ballas. When cj is done with the san fierro missions he makes absolutely no effort to stop smoke afterwards as the entirety of the las venturas arc is just him building himself up. And then when he saves sweet he doesnt even mention smoke at all like he stopped caring about him. I think if sweet had pointed this out instead of berating cj for making a better life out of himself it atleast would have made him more understandable as cj was just ready to give up on the man that made him kill his childhood best friend ryder and his moms but sweet wanted to avenge them.

Sweet is really a useless character in a GTA game.

Sweet was ignorant but he is indeed one of the most loyal characters in gta history. Lost his brother, mother, many friends then his biggest loses were Ryder and big smoke I don’t think sweet ever saw that shit coming. I still don’t prefer sweet but I understand the character. Sweet is a really good character because a lot of guys who are in gangs are the same way or atleast were the same.

Another way to look at it is from the black perspective. Main LA gangs like the Bloods and Crips are offshoots of the Black Panther party. They were originally formed to protect their commuties before becoming corrupted. Sweet in a way resembled the Original Gangsters, in his want to keep his community drug free and safe from police and drug dealer interference. When Sweet chastises CJ after being freed it is not just him wanting to fulfil his duties as a leader. It is him challenging his brother on a faulty state of mind that is often sold to young ambitious black people, "get yours and leave, fuck the hood." Sweet challenges Carl to do the opposite, to stay and help his community, to give back. Thanks to Sweet convincing CJ to help, the entire Los Santos saw a net positive gain through the elimination of unchecked police corruption and crack dealers. Had he shut up and moved into the mansion without arguement upon release Big Smoke and Tenpenny would have reigned unipeeded with the people of LS left to suffer.

Kendl sees nothing wrong with dating someone from a rival gang yet she's supposed to be the brains of the family and she doesn't see how Sweet is trying to protect her don't get me wrong Cesar did turn out to be a cool dude but still that was reckless and dangerous dating someone from a Mexican rival gang when her brothers are from an African American gang themselves I mean what if she found herself in a situation where Sweet and CJ won't be around to save her like if Cesar turned out to be really abusive and tried to unalive her after having a fight or argument.

I don't get why would people criticize side characters for "not doing enough work". Even if characters had super intelligent AI instead of retarded and suicidal ones, they still would not get ahead of the main character. It is a rule of this type of games to not make side characters outshine the main character in terms of physical work. It is the player's responsibility to accomplish things. If a NPC does all the work while player is just chilling in the background, it will not be fun. Tommy did all the work himself while Lance and others just kept drinking stuff in the mansion's bar in Vice City, for example. Not just GTA games but other games do the same thing too. Scarface: TWIY, Saints Row etc. It does not matter who you are in the game's story, if your character is the protagonist then you will do all the work.

The mission “Tagging up the Turf” is the most wholesome we get out of Sweet. Tags along with CJ despite slight reprimands, rendezvous with CJ after tackling Balla turf and lends CJ money with a bro hug when CJ tells him that Crash took his money.

i was mad at sweet in the last missions of the game but i began understand that he is right, he cant just leave his hood in the hands of big smoke crack bussiness, cj has this bad habit of running away in despair, cj is not a coward but he just give up hope quickly, this video sumarized my thoughts.

I'll find you and fight you irl for this vid Jk, I played GTA3 on PS2 when I was a kid, but only played free roam and side stuff cus I was too shit to play the missions and beat them (also I mostly played SA and 4 instead, but 1-VC were cool novelties to me), a few years ago I replayed it and beat it on PC (Steam version not DE) and it was pretty good, you're always free aiming in that one so it's similar to how FPS games play, the worst parts imo are op weapons still being op even when NPCs use them, weird driving physics, and weak cars that blow up too easy Imo it's best looking on PS2, but XB has some improvements (less compressed textures, cars have reflections, better character models, etc), PC (original version) is less good looking but not trash it's very similar to PS2, mobile (10th year anniversary edition) is pretty shit looking but has some improvements (HD HUD) and technically has a higher graphic fidelity, DE imo is the ugliest but technically has the best overall fidelity

Sweet is indifferent when cj comes home, pissed your aren't repping colours, is presented with ways out of gang violence and crime, but opts to say youz a bitch cause Carl doesn't wanna hang in a fucking ghetto. Sweet is a misunderstood character and the grove street families are a misunderstood organization. I once saw someone claiming that if sweet allowed his people to deal Crack, or at least found a profitable alternative like Woozy did by investing into gambling. But that argument misses the point of what the groves were supposed to be. Unlike the triads or the mafia whose primarily purpose is to make money and to gain power the grove street families are more like a neighborhood watch and it's clear that sweet stuck to the original purpose of the the gang so it's logical that he didn't invest into criminal rackets, at least not on a big scale.
