The only 4 things it lacked are eating food for health recovery, swimming underwater, no security protecting your businesses, and improved gun fight. Notice how you want to kill your target but sometimes accidently killing someone else? This game is the most underrated of the entire series.
I think one of the clips where I’m dogging on Lance shows me killing an ally when I was trying to kill an enemy lmao. And I agree, VCS is incredibly underrated!
My list for the PS2 GTA games goes.... 1 - San Andreas 2 - Vice city stories 3 - Vice city 4 - Liberty city stories 5 - Gta 3 I think I'll always love these games.

I love how it sorta combines Vice City and GTA san Andreas in terms of gameplay. 1. You can Swim! And some missions are also based around it 2. Sometimes (On the PSP version) the lighting will appear with an orange filter similar to San Andreas. 3. Your property can sometimes be attacked which can sometimes be similar to the "Our hood is underattack" moments in SA. 4. Uhh, you can dress similarly to CJs default close (And you're also Black XD). I kinda wish instead of the Protagonists being Vic, he was instead just a made up character, And have Lance just be an old Business Partner or maybe even childhood friend. Not only would it make more sense (Like Vic in Normal vice city is COMPLETELY different in both voice, appearance and the fact that he sells the "goods") But it would also give more development to the character and make his ending more open to interpretation, instead of feeling sad knowing he gave up on his Moral Values.

Though I can, the sound can be awful at points, more so in game while cutscenes tend to be good, outside of cutscenes wearing headphones on the PSP my eardrums are filling up with blood from how crunchy it is
26:42 you could actually cheese this part by just changing the camera to look behind you (L2 and R2) It will prevent enemy cars from spawning. That's usually what I did to prevent them. The more annoying version of this mission was "The Exchange" the Truck doesn't have a special Health bar, so if an enemy car drives by (which happens almost immediately as you leave the lot) your truck would be rendered gone in 5 seconds. I enjoyed the Business empire thing as well but the Gang attacks made it annoying, especially the Sharks cuz they can pull up and rekt you in seconds. I remember they attacked my businesses back to back 5 times before they eventually stopped. I immediately ran to save and reloaded to stop getting more attacks. This video was a joy to watch with valid critique as well. I still love and enjoy playing this game and finishing it 100%.
I've to say I can totally agree with every point you bring up. But like you conclude at the end, this game was a hell of a blast, especially if you keep in mind, that this game was intended to be a Mobile Game (PSP) as far back as 2006. I remember how LCS got very hyped in German Videogame Magazines for being a portable, full-size GTA. And VCS just built up on this. Sadly both titles in the series never got the attention they deserved but both are really hidden gems. Mini Me can clearly remember having trouble finishing every hard mission you mentioned but like you said they aren't that hard if you know how to approach them. The Empire system was just the last puzzle for me to make this a cult masterpiece. It's such a fun way to grow your control over the city and make a huge pile of money. I see that these revenge attacks from the gangs on your properties are really annoying but luckily you can skip them if you save your game and then load it. I guess it is too late now to tell you but you will know in the future xD You also should keep an eye on the 60 FPS Patches and the upscaled textures you can both apply in PCSX2. Makes the game once more prettier than just only to upscale it Nice Video you got here. Can't wait what you come up next with. It's a shame you couldn't really show some of the awesome soundtracks. VRock it's Songs but also the Advertisements are so awesome and funny
I’ve finally got around to sitting down and watching this. I’ve actually recently bought a PS2 and have been aiming to 100% VCS. It always amazes me how much content they crammed into a PSP game. Its definitely held the test of time, but you can still tell this is a PSP port when you play it on console. It was probably the least played GTA I owned as a kid, but coming back to it now and understanding it was developed by Rockstar Leeds with little help from the main Rockstar studio really does make you appreciate it. I agree with your points on how weird Vic’s personality is written. It’s like he’s two completely different people in both cutscenes and gameplay. He hates drugs and crime, but runs around killing gangsters and stealing drugs as soon as the cutscene ends! Another great video, Doug. You can see the effort that went into this. I’m looking forward to whatever game you decide to do an essay on next!
Vice City Stories is a great game,really underrated,even better then the OG Vice City in most aspects,now you should try Gta Chinatown Wars,also a great game and Gta Advance, the black sheep of the franchise
My favorite GTA, followed by IV & SA. I'm a Floridian. I liked Vic a lot, but I agree about his inconsistency regarding drugs. Something that's sorta off about Lance in VC because of VCS is that some of his dialogue implied that he was new to the city in OG VC, and it was like he didn't know already Diaz. I just wish the Malibu, and Pole Position clubs weren't inaccessible. Wtf?! While I too would've liked the ability to crouch, you couldn't press down on the PSP's analog stick so no R3. Still could've added climbing though. I'm mixed on the swimming because of the stamina bar, but better that than automatic drowning. It would've been nice if the Sharks had a bigger role in the game since they're like the toughest gang to fight for Empire Buildings, but are even less relevant in the story than they were in OG VC which was minor.
Hated it when I was a kid; retried it a few nights ago on a NEW playthrough and DAMN was that mission a pain even as a 25 year old adult, I’m SHOCKED my younger self somehow managed to beat it 😂😂👏🏻👏🏻 even the way the forklift aligns with the boxes sucks
It is mind blowing what rockstar accomplished with this game with it being a PSP game originally and it’s criminally underrated. But I see your points the game can get a bit frustrating with the enemy AI being 100% pin point accurate with every single shot and the fearless aggression like they all have a death wish. The empire system is fun and addictive but it seems like every 30 seconds they’re under attack so the game has no mercy on you whatsoever… I kinda like that though
Vice city stories is the equivalent of RE0 in terms of the series. It’s not the worst or best but it’s definitely a hidden gem most people never played
GTA VCS is definitely my 2nd favorite game in the franchise so far behind GTA SA as I haven't gotten the Chance to complete GTA 4 and its DLC due to me not owning a PS3 as well as not having a good PC to run the game on. The Characters, The Protagonist, the Gameplay, Just everything about the game is amazing imo. I do agree with ur list of ur hard/difficult missions in the game as well as the fact that Vic should've stuck with his morals instead of wanting to get revenge on Jerry Martinez. Also here is an Honorable mention to add to ur List of Difficult/annoying missions which is the Mission where Lance and Vic's houses end up getting bugged by the DEA. Imo that mission is so difficult cuz ur on a timer and as u keep destroying each antenna ur wanted Level keeps rising and since the Cops in the older GTA games are so fucking aggresive its practically impossible to complete the mission if u don't get access to a Police Maverick as ur doing the mission But despite that I still think the game is great both in terms of Story and its Gameplay and its honestly a shame that it never got the attention it deserved cuz it was a PSP port and I'm glad ur finally shining light on one of the most underrated GTA games of all time PS:u Just earned a new sub from me so keep up making the great content bro :)

As someone who hardly enjoys this series one of the reasons the controls being incredible outdated even when they came out, VCS despite its issues feels a bit more refined than previous entries for me. One of the few games of the series i had some fun. Like if you compare the OG VC on PS2 with VCS on PSP is amazing how despite the less powerful hardware and less buttons, everything feels better. Shooting is better and graphics are better on PSP.
Tbh I love this game even though this game was not selling well back then but but the content in this game just great and some of issue from previous title was fixed in this game like you can swim now and if you die or get busted you can buy a your weapon back without need to buy from the shop itself and the soundtrack is amazing but hey everyone has different opinion and i respect that ngl this game it give top two in 3d era gta to me btw great videos i really enjoy to the end

I'm not sure if you mentioned it or not... but since you played it on PCSX2. Did you use a 60FPS pnach code? I originally played this on a PS3 way back in the day and it ran awful, then I played it again on PCSX2 with a 60FPS code and the drive by "auto aim" gunners you mentioned were destroying my vehicles much faster than I remembered on the PS3 version. I believe the 60FPS code breaks the logic of how fast the AI's guns fire. It's literally like a stream of bullets, lmao. It's certainly still able to be finished, but damn is it ridiculous.
@@xXMalakianXVII I don’t recall enabling such a thing, but it’s very possible I could’ve been using something like that without realizing. I know the old GTAs are notorious for their issues with higher FPS rates on PC, so I can see that being the reason why the AI was so unbelievably deadly during my playthrough
@@DougTheDog6 Perhaps... I do know a few missions are actually impossible because it messes with timers so you have to turn off the 60 FPS code for I think 2 missions. One of them being that firetruck mission you brought up in the video. The timer just runs out before you can even arrive to that building to put out the flames. Also the warehouse where you use the forklift, you're not given enough time either. From what I've noticed though, it's just that and the water hose of bullets that CPU enemies fire at 100% accuracy lol.

The only gta of the 3d era in which characters have normal fingers and the steering wheels are actually round
If my memory serves me correctly, San Andreas had actual round and 3D steering wheels, whereas Vice City Stories were round but only 2D

"Light my Pyre" is the mission, I believe. And yeah, it can be annoying.
This was my first gta game and loved it at the time but im sure if i replayed it now I wouldn’t be that in awe with it
