Fun fact: in IV, if you try to wash a convertible car at the car wash, it won't be washed by the car wash itself, instead someone will actually come and wipe your car clean.
It’s those small details that I love about 4, like picking up random crap on the ground and throwing it everywhere, or when you call the police or ambulance Niko actually specifies the location he’s at, in 5 neither of those things are there.
@@numbersstationsarchive194That is so weird because the taxis do roughly give your location. Hell, someone could even mod the game so that they stick those lines after "I need an ambulance."
Once you master GTA 4's driving, it feels incredible to go through the gaps between cars, dodge with near misses and know exactly how much you should slow down for turns and drift. You could really feel the weight difference between vehicle classes.
@@user-ne9sd4ow1o in GTA IV one of my favorite things to do is get into a police chase on the Faggio scooter and try to outrun them by going through all the back alleys and shortcuts that I can. Try it, it's really fun, even though it is slow.
RDR2 had that come back but in a modernized form. In RDR2 the climbing is way harder to do since the player now controls way less precise due to the animation blending. But this system at least would be better then V one.
There is a reason i have more hours in GTA 4 than in 5, the driving physics was absolutely more fun in 4 than in 5. I still love 5 but no game can ever come close to 4 in driving mechanics.
What was great about gta4 was that the physical movement was realistic, the cosmetic damage was intense, while the mechanical damage was forgiving. In gta5 however, it's the opposite - cars move and maneuver unrealistically, cosmetic damage is close to non-existent, and mechnaical damage is either doing nothing at all or you straight up explode on impact.
Well no. Theres many ways cars in gta V get disabled and just don’t drive or turn on any more. In the story of gtav you can shoot the gas tank of the cars which then leak gas. Shooting at a cars gas tank makes it explode faster.
That was AFTER the move to Xbone, when it was just the Xbox 360, Only trees and massive bushes stopped you, after the move to Xbone, the smallest bushes will completely alter your cars direction
If we talk about the ejection system i think GTA 6 should have the option to toggle on or off seatbelts. Seatbelt on = no flying through the windshield. Seatbelt off = flying through the windshield.
If niko closed the door on the car, it was the equivalent to putting the seatbelt on, the issue of flying out happens if you rush getting in the car and driving off (or soawn in a car with mods)

I didn’t enjoy gta 4’s driving style that much especially since the camera made it harder to drive and when I drove a comet at high speed it failed to turn at the bottom of a hill and crashed straight into a gas pump.
GTA V was not the first GTA to have mid air vehicle controls. That was GTA SA. It also lets you roll over your car, but it was a bit more difficult especially because the car started burning after 2 seconds of being upside down.
The main reason there’s a lack of planes in GTA 4, is because the map could be too quickly traversed if they had planes or jets. Helicopters could get you from the northeast side to the southwest side in less than 2 minutes at altitude. Imagine using a plane instead…
I actually have to wonder if it was even moreso due to issues Rockstar Games had internally with plane physics and/or collision. The common explanation for GTA IV not having manned planes is that there's only one airport along with the map being too small. However, Rockstar Games had this same issue prior to GTA IV with GTA VC (which has an even smaller map). Their solution to the issue was a boat plane (Skimmer). The Skimmer could have worked quite well in GTA IV considering the amount of water, piers/docks, and the ability to swim. Also, the Cessna 152 (real life counterpart of the Dodo/Skimmer) has a top speed of 126 mph while the UH-60 Black Hawk (real life counterpart of the Annihilator) has a top speed of 183 mph. So, the suggested boat plane wouldn't be too fast. Although, the speed gap between the two would ideally be closed up a bit in-game to allow for better utility of the plane that's unable to make vertical takeoffs and landings (unlike a helicopter).
There are plenty of clever ways to do it and still be challenging enough though. I suspect the theory of the physics being the primary reason this was scrapped is most likely.
I think that was one reason why but they can do tricks to make it fly slower and not have jets but slow planes but i think it was due to the physics problems and 911 still fresh in there minds as 911 nearly got GTA 3 cancelled as that was based in new York as well and rock star all ready got a lot of bad rep from bad up tight mums with nothing to do but report the game and old people in government thinking it was a super realistic game making children killers. So having planes in a new York style game would just piss of more people if players try and make 911 jokes and fly into buildings.
@@randomserbianguy5677It's inconsistent in real life too. Whether you'll survive has as much to do with how you land as how far you fall. Rolling down a mountain and hitting your neck on the side is going to kill you more than falling a greater distance and breaking your fall with your legs.

I loved how mass had a real effect in GTA 4. I loved modding the weights of certain cars in GTA 4 to make them super massive, yet handle the same, especially the cabs, since they were everywhere and always easy to steal. Once I recall the advertising light banner (on the roof) on one of my cabs coming lose and tumbling towards the other lane of traffic. Since it also had it's weight amplified by the mod, it too was able to shove cars out of the way as if they were made of paper.
GTAIV is the only game that can moonlight as a BeamNG even way back in 2008, whilst also being an open world TPS… and people will still call it trash. It’s about time someone is finally talking about the sim racing qualities of GTAIV. IMO it’s one of the most impressive things about it. As someone who only sim raced before trying normal games it was an indication on how well crafted GTAIV was. Its existence is a technical miracle. Whilst GTAIV isn’t ’completely realistic’, it clearly made the design choices to make it the most realistic city driving simulator and executed it perfectly whilst maintaining the fun risk reward factor. GTAV on the other hand didn’t try on either aspect, makes you wonder what the design intent was.
GTA IV is always just 'nostalgia' because when it was released. But nobody can give a reason why 5 is 'objectively' better other than sales and map size. Not that GTA 5 didn't do anything right, but the game is definitely a bit overrated

I think that the physics accomodate the maps, 4's driving is more realistic because the city is more dense and speed control is key to a safe travel while building on top of that density, but 5's map has bigger and open terrain meaning that arcade controls help you travel without fliping all the time. If we had 4's physics on 5's map it would be a nightmare on more rural areas in the same way that 5's phisycs in 4's map would make travel easy and underwhelming.
I hope GTA VI brings back more realistic vehicle physics and damage. A big advantage of Rockstar having their own car brands is that they don't need to worry about a cars performance being affected by damage
not having real cars in these type of games tbh is nearly the only solution you would really think a brand like ferrari would allow you to overly-customize your car and do shotouts or ride over people with it? they barely allow customizations on even need for speed, a game specifically made for customizing your car lol the gta 4 damage model has to come back either way, it's just so much better in any way lol
@@AverageAlien Licensed car brands dislike seeing their vehicles in a damaged wrecked state in video games, For example: Ford admitted they would never star in a Burnout game, which is a racing game focused entirely on crashing, high speed racing and destruction. Since Rockstar's GTA vehicles are all unlicensed and have their own brand in the universe of the world (GTA) then they can do whatever the hell they want with them, give them some insane damage modelling
Straight up bs from car manufacturers. Take games like DiRT or the GRID series where damage models were an actual feature. Affecting your car performance and try to race clean and keeping your car. It's not as so controversial as exploding or ramming people on a sidewalk
i've been a fan of IV's driving style ever since it came out and i do believe it's better than V in most if not all ways, but i do remember it feeling like a breath of fresh air to finally be able to turn my brain off while driving in a GTA game. obviously over time though, that means the driving became much more boring compared to IV which always has the player engaged. V's driving did its job well for a bit but it simply doesn't work long term. VI definitely needs some sort of middle ground or maybe even an option to change your handling so people can fine tune their experiences.
I personally think you shouldn't be engaged by the driving itself. I shouldn't be driving to a mission and have to be that engaged in a casual drive, because if I have to give that much attention to drive from A to B, how will I go from B to C whilst the cops are shooting at me? Driving should be second nature to the player, not requiring thought to perform. The engagement comes from using that driving ability to evade the cops with a cool maneuver, because if you have to be engaged just to move the vehicle you wouldn't be able to make the cool maneuver.
While it is theoretically possible, it is also very dangerous and hard to achieve. I'm not even sure there will be enough friction between wheels and surface in upside down position to sustain speed high enough. So probably car will need jet engine to do such stunt.
I remember playing GTA IV going insanely fast, WAY too fast for the situation because I was TRYING to cause the wildest crash possible to see how many flips my car could do in one crash, and how much damage I could cause
It is not faithful, if you play actual driving sims they handle way better than in GTA IV. Hell, even Mafia's cars handle better than GTA IV and those cars are from the 50s.
I think that GTA VI needs to do what MAFIA games have been doing for years. Having Having two options for the players to choose themselves, between "normal" and "simulation".

@@Kaiess01 If "realistic driving physics" is more "fun" for you, and having a more Consistent and less Boring "Arcade Driving physics" is more valuable to a player like me, why can't we both have what we want without putting people in scenarios where they have to deal with teammates in missions that: - Get stuck by flipping their car - Are super slow because they dented their car too much on one side negatively impacting their driving - Get flipped when going over a ramp and flipping mid air - Get permanently stuck on a rock or incline because they were exploring the map - Get tossed through their windshield into the water
Something I always wanted was a "seatbelt" option for getting flung out of cars, putting on the seatbelt could be similar to how you put on a helmet on a motorcycle, you just wait parked a few seconds and it's on, though could also be an interaction when in a car. When on you can't get flung out and you take a bit less crash damage but you can't "jump out" a moving car as a tradeoff. That said they should really also change how bailing from a car or bike works, instead of just rolling uncontrollably you should have a way to stop or catch yourself somehow, maybe in exchange for taking more damage. That way bailing could actually be useful again as right now it pretty much just carries you the same distance your vehicles travels after bailing anyway :P
i think the reason why cars in GTA have invincible Structure is because rockstar knows their drivers are gonna be shit and people will hate the game if you constantly hit something that cause your whole vehicle to be destroyed in the middle of the mission. People would still complain

16:42 You could always take another car and ram your old one to unflip it. 17:26 You can control your car mid air in GTA IV as well. Holding handbrake (or was it gas+brake, not sure which) also changes the type of air control (so you can actually turn the car left or right instead of rolling it). 28:41 GTA IV also has curb and wiggle boosting, as well as all the speed boosts that come from all the tiny bumps in the road. 32:44 They need to find a mid point between San Andreas and IV, not V. It was a big missed opportunity to not talk about San Andreas and what it did right. V's driving setup is pretty much downgraded San Andreas driving, as San Andreas had a much better balance of arcade and realism than V. Body roll actually existed and was properly applied to correct vehicle types. Cars of the same type had more handling variety between them. It didn't have the forced traction control system of the newer games or the weird physics glitches. It did some things better than IV.

This would not work for GTA 6 online, because it doesn't make sense having different physics for each player in the same session. Maybe they could add this option for campain mode only and find a mid point for online, but I think the odds of that happing are low.

GTA 4 online racing is far more grounded and took actual skill to compete. It had speed boosts if you curb and go over bumps. Braking points were extremely crucial. You had to focus a lot more on keeping your car under control while securing your position meanwhile GTA 5 online racing just had you focus on not crashing.

The only thing that won't work/load is the Steam workshop to get new/more mods (for obvious reasons). They used to have their own CDN for the game downloads before fully switching to Steam as their CDN, simply because having their own ate too much into their (comparatively quite limited) budget
Can’t believe I agree with almost everything you said. Are you me lol. I’ve been saying this for years. Especially the next gen damage. They marketed it as improved damage while actually decreasing the amount allowed to the cockpit area making the cars only like 20% deformable in the front and back. I was so disappointed when the next gen version came out. What’s annoying is they could’ve come up with so many alternatives like character ducking when roof is damaged, or swapping first person damage as a separate damage model like racedriver Grid where once you go third person the actual damage is shown, or tweaking deformation to a certain level, yet they went with the laziest option of completely removing damage. Hopefully 6 has better solutions to damage and actually adds life to physics in the way cars behave. I could drive around for hours in IV whereas V felt like a lifeless chore.
GTA IV's handling and physics is in no way shape or form realistic. If GTAV is guilty of having too much gravity, than IV's sin is not enough gravity. The cars are quick to catch air. And no, the cars don't topple over that easily. If they do, it's a problem to be fixed. Every car in GTAIV behaves like a land yacht, including the depictions of famously hard suspension cars like Honda CRXs, Ferraris and Porsches. The cars don't lean that much while turning. Sway bars are a thing and they are important enough to be a part of a cars marketing. All cars in GTAIV understeer, regardless of the type of drive they use. Their braking distance is so long that all of them would be banned from traffic in real life. Human beings jumping from a speeding vehicle don't catch air like a stone that skips on water, they scrape asphalt. I'm not defending GTAV here, but please stop calling GTAIV realistic. It's not. It's different is what it is, because they wanted to show off real-time physics of Euphoria engine and it's an integral part of the game's design. For better or for worse. I personally think it's a bit of a missed opportunity. A little bit more tweaking would make it the best.
I think we can get the best of Both worlds. Some of the excellent feel and physics of gta4 and some of the quality of life features of gta5 would make an amazing driving system.
I wanted to mention something about the traffic getting in front of you while you're driving. I know it seems annoying, but to be honest with you that has been a part of rock star's driving philosophy since I can remember as far back as midnight club two. When you would drive on the wrong side of the highway. Cars would basically swerve to get out of your way, but as a result would sometimes swerve right into you. They even do it in red dead redemption two with the horses. Sometimes somebody is riding, and they'll just turn their horse in front of you.
Personally, I really prefer the particular challenge of mastering a realistic handling model. Tire, spring, and car body physics, realistic grip, all that good stuff. Everything else is either secondary or I'd rather not deal with it.
I very rarely comment on videos, but Dark Space deserves the engagement! By far one of the best (maybe even the best) GTA channel out there. The effort which goes into these videos is crazy (editing, research, scriptwriting...). Thanks for creating such amazing content! To the video topic itself (i haven't watched the vid yet): i think a mix of GTA 4 and GTA 5 driving for GTA 6 would be the sweatspot. GTA 4s physics were too soft and GTA Vs too stiff. Also the whole flipping your car back up or steering in the air is kinda goofy. It had also other issues like when vehicles land on the roof or front end after a jump, they tend to explode which makes no sense. Hypercars and Sports cars should also be faster than in the previous games and also require more skill (for example, they could be easier to spin out, at least RWD cars). As someone who both likes simracing and arcade racing games, i know what both worlds can offer and i really hope Rockstar makes the driving in GTA 6 awesome since its such a vital part of these games. Not only for missions, but for races, travel and much more.
@@DarkSpaceStudios Yeah, i've noticed that. I think most people who played both GTA 4 and 5 share that opinion, therefore it's not a huge coincidence. ^^

I hope GTA 6 goes for an inbetween of 5 and 4s physics. Its good that you can unflip your car and have air control as a nice convenience feature. Especially with personal vehicles being heavily emphasized now. But hopefully the damage is more pronounced and the driving physics offering a little more challenge and variety.
when he said how a semi truck accelerates on a dime. if in real life a semi was bob tail it would accelerate very fast as diesel engine have a ton of torque pretty quickly which is used to get a vehicle moving.
GTA IV also has a weird suspension glitch some may or may not know. If you shoot at the area behind a wheel, it will cause the car to lower, eventually "breaking" the suspension. If you do this with all four wheels, the car goes faster. Combined with blowing out the tires, you can reach high speeds. While it's unrelated, a fun lesser known glitch is the shipping container glitch. If you do it in multiplayer while hanging onto it, it moves so fast that it can launch you above the sky cap or across the city so fast that it looks like you teleported.
To be honest i feel so pulled apart by both GTA 4 and GTA 5 driving that i start to not care anymore what GTA 6 will bring. Don‘t get me wrong the GTA 4 driving is awesome and it actually feels nice to drive around through Liberty City but i also love the GTA 5 driving just because (as it already got said) it sticks to their arcade style driving. The addition of being able to flip your car around when landing on the roof was like the helping hand to a cry for help. I remember how frustrating it always was having a sick car in GTA SA and then flipping it. Of course it not rewarding then to be a good driver but it‘s still GTA and not a racing game and i feel like if you want it to be rewarding you still can make it that way. I agree that you can driver over pretty much everything in GTA 5 but it still is a bit more easy to spin out at high speeds due to all the bumps in the road. It just feels more "usual" or "familiar" to have an arcade like driving experience in GTA even thought i really liked driving in GTA 4 too. …… We don‘t talk about the visible damage problem cuz that really does suck in GTA 5.
22:02 that is not true, in the GTAVI Trailer at the end when Jason and Lucia are kicking the doors open, on the left we can see a car with a pretty realistic dent in it. (and in the leaks we saw a bit more damage)
"developers CAN do this thing, they just choose not to" is a dumb argument. Not every single developer has the same skillset or experience. That's like saying because I run from time to time I can run 100M as quick as Usain Bolt and I just choose not to. Or that a chef should be able to cook anything another chef can even if they don't know the recipe and they just choose not to do it. No, they can't just do it, sure they might be choosing to not learn, but they're not "choosing not to", they just can't, end of. GTA V's driving was clearly a mix of a stylistic choice and a limitation of hardware. Bare in mind it came out on the xbox 360 first and was made for it. They toned down the traffic because it was too costly on the hardware, so making simpler driving physics was probably a necesity. And they wouldn't just update the driving physics for new releases or updates cause that could ruin the story mode and would shake up online and races too much. GTA V needs the arcade style driving, cause it's a crime action show as a game, whereas GTA IV is a more gritty and realistic drama that has realism in nearly every bone in its body. It's cool to compare the two games but when you take every factor it's pretty redundant. They're two completely different styles of GTA game made with completely different visions
Gta 5 driving was never meant to be realistic like in gta 4... They even say it in the gameplay trailer that the driving in this game is supposed to be fun not realistic and they deliver it... Having gta 4 driving control in this game will be pure nightmare especially los santos has alot of hill and terrain... after a few day people will begging rockstar to bring the old driving control back
Honestly i kinda disagree when it comes to the "fun" part I'd prefer if they took the handling from midnight club LA they already had,it was already fucking arcadey and in any case,in 5 its a bit too arcadey for my taste and yet,i still love need for speed most wanted (2005)
5:35 GTA 4 is actually more realistic here. Car windshields are laminated and stay together, unlike the other windows of a car, which are tempered glass and crumble into small chunks.
I almost solely do certain GTA 4 missions just to drive smoothly through traffic as much as I can. Especially with a mod I have on that increases car damage drastically, it can be very rewarding whether I crash violently or perfectly get through a mission without crashing. This video already covers this but I must say that the weight effects / physics interactions create a more impactful feel to players' inputs, while in GTA V the lack of makes car manuevers feel empty by comparison - btw, the way the traffic behavior works in gtaV with reading player inputs is very frustrating Also 22:31 is such a massive point, I've come back to gta iv to do self imposed cop challenges because of moments like that
Never was a fan of steering in midair I think it should be nerfed it is just too goofy only thing it made sense for it was on dirt bikes like a professional stuntman pulling tricks in the air

Rockstar Games got rid of the driving physics from GTA IV because everybody hated it and GTA IV driving physics was very good I had a very great time with it it was very fun crushing through the window
I hope GTA VI is in between the two in terms of fun/realism, but closer to V. I like the arcade driving. It’s easy and a lot of fun and it fits the game well. I’m not playing Gran Turismo or Assetto Corsa. I don’t want to deal with in depth physics. I want to drive fast and drift around corners and not think too much. Again, I think it could be more realistic than it has been in V, but V was closer to right in my opinion
Something in between GTA 4 and 5. I won't mind if they give 3 Options. Like GTA 4, mid, like gta 5. They can still have stunt racing where admin can choose what physics everyone should have
I don't think physics should be an option. The game should have consistent physics and damage models. However, the option I have yet to see people mention is vehicle modifications. That's one of the main points in GTA V. Vehicle customization. GTA V did it wrong though by not giving much for options and instead there were just objectively better modifications. Instead, id suggest lots of modification options but all with tradeoffs. Roll cage increases damage resistance and reduces player damage taken in crashes, but also adds a lot of weight. Tires should affect how the vehicle handles on different terrain. Vehicle pitch can already be controlled in-air in real life by accelerating/decelerating to a limited degree, but active aero and compressed air nozzles could give realistic-ish methods of controlling a vehicles attitude in-air. If GTA VI gives everyone options with tradeoffs instead of just better options, it would be a lot more interesting. As is, instead of every vehicle in GTA V having a use, 90% of the time, all you need is the oppressor mk 2.
@@ethanrandall3005 Well it's similar to what I said. In stunt racing they can only allow cars with such modifications. Or normally they have some suspension types that users could change through modification. Still the same what you and I said, but just added the modification word now.
Uuuh, car glass actually is very realistic in GTA 4 and MORE realistic than GTA 5. Windshield glass made differently than door and rear glass. Car door glass is meant to be shattered because of safety reasons, when windshield glass is exact opposite of that. It is laminated multilayer glass which must windstand a lot of damage remaining in place and shatter as little as possible. And IRL it's almost impossible to shatter windshield like you show it in comparison at 5:40. Layer of plastic laminate prevent glass from acting like that. It will crack, but not shatter. And real life footages you shows exactly about that - it's always rear or side windows which made to be easily breakable in order to make a safe exit possible from a car in case of door lock.
Im gonna be real. This is the only place ive ever seen where people actually give a shit about the differences, even though I agree with everything he says I dont think its that big a deal. Destruction is fun and all but imagine trying to do a street race in GTA V with GTA IVs physics engine or chasing that boat down the highway in the story. TLDR just dont play GTA V if you dont like its driving to the point where most of you seem to 'hate' it
Driving in GTA IV was like learning how to Rocket Jump in TF2. It was a lot of fun and required practice and skill, but I'm not surprised other people aren't able to have as much fun because of how difficult it is.
I always liked GTA 4's handling from the beginning. Cars felt more grounded. It gave driving a challenge and less of a bore. Like a proper driver - you're always gotta be attentive to the vehicle. It made even boring and common vehicles fun to drive cause of it. I liked trying the different feel for each vehicles in that game. But in GTA 5, it was just meh. Vehicles such as vans and trucks are a bore to drive cause of how easy and flat the handling is and add the dumb down crash models too.
They should allow you to switch between driving physics, like how Mafia 2 did. We should be allowed to choose between GTA V style driving and IV, or when Rockstar makes new physics for 6, we also have the option for that. That way, all players are happy. They get to have their preference. I feel like this would work online as well, imagine seeing other players driving boat-like IV style driving while other players nearby are driving with complete control and accuracy like V. That would be the best.
I always hated the driving in GTA 5. The driving in Vice City from 2002 was better. I always hated how I would have these nice old and heavy cars online and they drove like they were hot wheels toys. It’s always been my least favorite part of the game.
Getting chased by police, to me, was more thrilling in 4, because you have more limited space to work with, and you better be good at driving, or else you’re not getting too far.
The suspension sway when going forward and back is because you are basically always full throttling those moves from your inputs. So its actually realistic in GTA IV
I heard that the reason Rockstar put the roll control feature in GTA V was to adress a complaint from players in previous games, who said they didn't like the fact that the car exploded and that you could lose your car if you flipped it over.
"In the real world, I have to write up list of stuff I have to go to the grocery store to buy, and I have never thought to myself that realism is fun. I play games to have fun." - Gabe Newell
I think we all know what they’re gonna choose to do, arcade style everything with paywalls and subscription requirements. Someone needs to make a GTA competitor, all we want is another fun realistic GTA with a dark but funny story, and ONE CHARACTER. GTA4 would be the perfect game if it had as many activities and jobs as current GTA Online. After you finish the story in 4 you have nothing to do to make more money and nothing to spend it on if you did, but I still get on that game just to run around fist fighting Russians in hove beach and getting in shoot outs with the cops until I eventually have to retreat to a stolen car and swingset glitch myself the heck out of there
For me its Gta IV because its more releastic than Gta V i want Gta VI to be fun and releastic as well+ RTX real time reflections, more ncps, more life in the game.
I LOVED GTA4's vehicle handling. It didn't click at first, but once I got the hang of it I was really hooked. I had gotten a lot of time into it since I was my group's "dedicated wheelman" because they just wanted to shoot things and not concentrate on driving, which I was all too happy to oblige. There was a lot of nuance and things you could pull off when you used the inertia of the car's to shift the weight around. At times it was close to playing a rally game where you need to focus on your car's weight distribution on the tires when making turns or going off jumps. It was fun in a "controlled chaos" kind of way, like a 70's action movie car chase where the cars are banging off others, driving through fruit stands, and powersliding around corners. GTAV's driving is nice too in a different way, where it favors speed and accuracy, a bit closer to 2010's movies like the Mission Impossibles, and Fast and Furious movies. That being said, I do much prefer 4's. It took skill and thought and was something that added a deeper nuance to the game, and a role that someone (like me) could take up in their group of fellow 14 year old friends.
GTA V was massive upgrade from IV. You people never talk about the flaws of GTA IV just the peaks and I struggle to run it on my pc while V runs smoothly
Then again, you're also hyper focusing. GTA IV was a bad port for the PC, so you're calling the entire game bad just because of that. Today you can use DXVK2 and it will run smoothly, I promise.
Fun Fact: hold down the "enter car" button when getting into a car in GTA 4 and Niko won't fly out the windshield. Alliteratively hold it when getting out and Niko will shut the car off. Try it!

Same here!
No question that driving is better in GTA4, but to say that no other game comes close is silly.

That is why I prefer GTA V
I think that was one reason why but they can do tricks to make it fly slower and not have jets but slow planes but i think it was due to the physics problems and 911 still fresh in there minds as 911 nearly got GTA 3 cancelled as that was based in new York as well and rock star all ready got a lot of bad rep from bad up tight mums with nothing to do but report the game and old people in government thinking it was a super realistic game making children killers. So having planes in a new York style game would just piss of more people if players try and make 911 jokes and fly into buildings.
I have a jet mod😁 super cool
i think its funny how in gta v you can fall 3 stories and survive but if you slide off the cliff into the ground you end up dead from rolling
Yeah, fall damage in V is so inconsistent it's actually crazy
@@randomserbianguy5677It's inconsistent in real life too. Whether you'll survive has as much to do with how you land as how far you fall. Rolling down a mountain and hitting your neck on the side is going to kill you more than falling a greater distance and breaking your fall with your legs.
@electrified0 that's not what I meant and you know it
I thought this was so you wouldn’t be stuck rolling all the way down a mountainside for 5 minutes…
I feel like gta deaths are not really deaths but any injury serious enough to incapacitate you

The reason you don't fly out of your car in V as often is because your character will put their seatbelt on when cold starting a car when not wanted.
I hope GTA VI brings back more realistic vehicle physics and damage. A big advantage of Rockstar having their own car brands is that they don't need to worry about a cars performance being affected by damage
not having real cars in these type of games tbh is nearly the only solution
you would really think a brand like ferrari would allow you to overly-customize your car and do shotouts or ride over people with it? they barely allow customizations on even need for speed, a game specifically made for customizing your car lol
the gta 4 damage model has to come back either way, it's just so much better in any way lol

- Get stuck by flipping their car
- Are super slow because they dented their car too much on one side negatively impacting their driving
- Get flipped when going over a ramp and flipping mid air
- Get permanently stuck on a rock or incline because they were exploring the map
- Get tossed through their windshield into the water
IIRC at least GTA IV has seat belts, you need to wait for the character to close the door and / or start the car by themselves before hitting the gas.

Combining the driving physics of GTA IV and V can actually work for GTA VI. The Bravado Dorado and the Canis Terminus are the best examples of this.
@@iwtdl_ I haven't driven either of them but are they really the best examples? Because so far I thought the Eudora was the best and (possibly) the only example of a combination of both physics. And from videos that I've seen about the cars you've mentioned, they seem to have the same stiff physics but I might be wrong.
Glad someone pointed the air control out. It's been a thing since even in sa (can't remember if it was prior)
Great comment, thank you
I think u are actually true. Like San andreas and V are almost the same type of driving, it's just that is not soo noticeable because of the clear difference on graphics.
I absolutely love GTA IV's driving, but sometimes the cars look like they have sway bars made of octopus jelly.
GTA V's model looks and feels like I'm driving a soap box.
I think that GTA VI needs to do what MAFIA games have been doing for years. Having Having two options for the players to choose themselves, between "normal" and "simulation".
Rockstar doesn't really do that kind of shit.
Everybody is supposed to have the same experience especially trans kids who are #1 users of Gta V
This would not work for GTA 6 online, because it doesn't make sense having different physics for each player in the same session. Maybe they could add this option for campain mode only and find a mid point for online, but I think the odds of that happing are low.
@@willdoyoutube Already GTAO has different session types depending on targeting mode so it could likely work.
@@alainportant6412 The fuck are you on?
I can tell you're very new to the franchise by this opinion. Rockstar designs the whole game around a certain type of physics.
just started gta iv yesterday, have played (and finished) all the other main 3d gtas except for iv (iii, vc, sa and v), have almost 800 hours in gta v and love the driving in v but am starting to fall in love with iv’s driving. both are great. vi should strike a happy balance between the two in my opinion.
GTA 4 physics are superior, driving cars was much more fun and interesting compared to GTA 5. I enjoyed the focus required to drive.
It was a skill that you you could master and added a lot of replayability to the game just messing around and driving.
Hopefully it makes a comeback in GTA 6.
17:30 Yes, you can, but it's so heavy to control
Yup, with a shift and a ctrl button.

@@SirFunkyhe called the rag doll in GTA 4 more realistic even though Nico flys like paper in the wind and then followed his comment up with How much more fun gta 4 is than 5 even though multiple times he showed in the video that the gta v ragdolls do roll and tumble it’s just less likely that the entire limb is throwing you up off the pavement.
*Really enjoyable and informative vid , there's one thing that You had overlooked , specifically the fact that older cars in IV doesn't feature ABS , while the newer cars are equipped with it , personally I think that the driving model in IV was sucha step forward 'cos 'twas innovative, more demanding 'twas like a really unexpected but great move by the developers*
I remember the pressure i had in GTA IV, of being 1st and trying to not hit the sidewalk, just one hit and the race was lost ! But it was so rewarding
@@GameSpirit1 Lol yup, those racing lobbies were rough man. Not for the your typical NFS player, you HAD to know the condition of every street in the city to have the most control over your car. One pot hole and your Comet starts flying in the air doing 360 no scopes then next thing you know you’re in last place.
In gta 5 you also use curbs to speed boost
Meanwhile in GTA5 races you're in 1st knowing that there's 2 kids behind you waiting to cheese catchup+sleep stream at the last second
Bro you are racing against kids probably. Try to compete in any solid racing crew. You will be destroyed I promise.
GTA 4's realistic physics were what caught my attention the most. For an open world game with this level of realistic detail, it's incredible. I really admire the way the cars' suspension behaves.
It's not realistic! Compare suspension physics in simulators. GTA IV is totally unreal.
First new video I've watched in a long time where I immediately subbed after finishing.
for some reason i loved gta iv's motorcycle driving physics, install a first person mod and drive a zombie chopper, it feels unbelievably good in gta iv

One can just copy the game folder to another PC and it'll work just fine, including already downloaded mods.
I’ve heard somewhere that they do this to slow down the player and prevent them from outpacing the loading of the map chunks
@Juanguar could be true for older games, but in all honesty, the only game that didn't do it purposely was gta4.
It's funny, you kinda say exactly what I say in the video 😂
@@DarkSpaceStudios Yeah, i've noticed that. I think most people who played both GTA 4 and 5 share that opinion, therefore it's not a huge coincidence. ^^

i was in the top 10,000 players in GTA 4 multiplayer. i had a 13 inch tube tv with one speaker. i was a phenomenal driver and could do drivebys with ease. i was so disappointed with GTA 5 physics, damage, and the online in general. i only played the multiplayer once or twice
High expectations leads to huge disappointment.
GTA6 will be woke
There are SUVs in GTA Online that can tip when turning at high speed, but they are very few.
I wish I hadn't missed that. Such a big mistake. Second big one too, because vehicles can actually be controlled in the air in gta 4
Cite an example.
Habanero.
4 is a bit over the top with all the sliding around but its way way better than 5
when he said how a semi truck accelerates on a dime. if in real life a semi was bob tail it would accelerate very fast as diesel engine have a ton of torque pretty quickly which is used to get a vehicle moving.
Is realism fun?
When I go out for groceries it ain't fun. That's why I play video games.
GTAV has that aswell, the futo turns into a drift machine with that. It was meta back in 2013.
I remembered that a armored truck has no weight in gta 5 and was spinning with the head lichts on the ground like a toll.
They're two completely different styles of GTA game made with completely different visions
ima just say this. GTAIV was much more fun with destruction
sorry but GTA IV driving is driving me nuts. lol I perfer arcade. MAFIA 's choice is the best tho as people can choose which one as he/she likes.
Gta 5 driving was never meant to be realistic like in gta 4... They even say it in the gameplay trailer that the driving in this game is supposed to be fun not realistic and they deliver it... Having gta 4 driving control in this game will be pure nightmare especially los santos has alot of hill and terrain... after a few day people will begging rockstar to bring the old driving control back
Honestly i kinda disagree when it comes to the "fun" part
I'd prefer if they took the handling from midnight club LA they already had,it was already fucking arcadey and in any case,in 5 its a bit too arcadey for my taste and yet,i still love need for speed most wanted (2005)
@@Damian-cilr2 nfs death after carbon, they should just remastered the original most wanted instead of making the 2012 version...
This video already covers this but I must say that the weight effects / physics interactions create a more impactful feel to players' inputs, while in GTA V the lack of makes car manuevers feel empty by comparison - btw, the way the traffic behavior works in gtaV with reading player inputs is very frustrating
Also 22:31 is such a massive point, I've come back to gta iv to do self imposed cop challenges because of moments like that
You can control the vehicles in ALL gta games actually while not holding the accelerate button.
Like in mid air
And unflipping by holding down the reverse button + left or right
@@blendhon that too, but you can't do it without enough momentum in the older games, and if its completely stationary you won't be able to unflip it.
@@UltimateSpiderMan Yep!! But most people don't know that (apparently)

In the Xbox one version of GTA V the AI always uses blinkers when turning or preparing to turn. They are white instead of yellow though.
gta 5 was the most boring motherfucking driving experience, not because the world was large, but because every minute spent doing it felt like they had reskinned GTA Vice City
Realism and physics are better in gta iv , but gameplay is in gta v. Both are fun.

GTA 4 has, in my opinion, better driving and gameplay mechanics. Rockstar found the perfect balance for fun, realism, and challenge. The realism made the game more immersive and rewarding and that's why i prefer it over GTA 5.
I like both driving. They both accomplish what they are meant to do according to each game

It could be tone down a bit but GTA IV driving system is the best imo.
And real life footages you shows exactly about that - it's always rear or side windows which made to be easily breakable in order to make a safe exit possible from a car in case of door lock.
he literally shows footage from REAL LIFE to prove his point
The amount of hwy driving you have to do in V would suck with IV physics.
I love the 360 dasboard and guide effects. It's pretty darn cool!
More like "The Problem With Every GTA Game's Arcade Style Driving Except GTA IV" because I think only GTA IV has this unique driving style

I play games to have fun."

Good for him
I think we all know what they’re gonna choose to do, arcade style everything with paywalls and subscription requirements.
35:30 I can't believe GTAIV is 16 years old.... that's nuts.
He was talking about the driving only, so any flaws outside of vehicles would be redundant to mention for the video. :/
I always thought GTA should just have a switch that lets you turn on or off the simulator type stuff so like it’s more realistic or not
