This is one of the best reviews I’ve ever seen. The ambient GTA IV music in the background is a brilliant touch. This game to me, has the best storyline of any game I’ve ever played before, the game came out initially when I was very young, and when I played it initially I don’t think I could fully grasp the story. But now I’m older, I recently completed it again, it’s a tale of anguish, betrayal and at the same time, unwavering loyalty. (in reference to both Dimitri and Little Jacob) GTA IV’s atmosphere was dull, and miserable, and it fitted so well for New York. For me, it shows that living the American Dream is just that for some people, a dream. GTA IV is Rockstar’s Magnum Opus, I feel that this somber atmosphere will never be seen in a GTA game again.
My pocket disliked! (I promise I loved it, properly liked it, and suscribed) so goddamn wonderful I would really, really love a follow up video that goes in depth with the expansions... you have my word, if you take the time to make it, imma throw you a patrion donation (or even venmo if you need) as I know it takes a lot of work
There's just something about this game. The cold and gritty nature along with a brutal story line really had me immersed. I feel almost everything Niko does. I try to play through it once a year and I fall in love again and again. The best game in the series for me. Thank you for this video Subscribed
GTA IV has cemented a very special place in my heart. As time goes on and I get older, I can only relate more and more to the story but without crime lol. The world, characters, physics and the theme song and overall gameplay can never be replicated. Sick video man👍🏻
Personal favorite story from a Rockstar Game, even over Red Dead Redemptions 1 and 2 imo. Just love how grounded the game is and how varied the characters are. Everyone's got their own personality and feel decently fleshed out. Just such a humble story and I'd love another game with this kind of honesty and realism.

This review hit me hard. Initially I didn't appreciate the lack of features in 4 compared to SA. After reflecting, and watching your review, I think GTA 4 was actually one of my favourite GTA games in terms of atmosphere, feel and story. The points you made were valid and made me question why I play games. The way you broke down the game and emphasised the story as part of the review was great. Keep up the good work bro
Yeah, thats something this game did bad, whose idea was it to not have car customisation. Well atleast there were lots of food places and bars you could get to, nothing in gta v..

Oh yeah. Gotta get this before its delisted soon. That ambient music in the background is more haunting than I ever remember and putting it throughout the video is a top notch tone setting choice
Best game in the GTA series and one of the best games of all time. The characters, story, tone and atmosphere… I love this game and I loved it ever since I got it on April 29, 2008. I still replay it to this day. Thanks for the video man, keep up the great work!
I was reading about the recent reports that we will be getting a remastered version of the original GTA series and possibly an RDR remaster as well. It kinda made me miss GTA 4 even more and that's how I found this video. This is one of the best reviews/look back videos on one of the best games, great work me breda !!!
I didn't understand this game when it came out. 28 years old. Didn't click. However .. I've started playing it in 2022. And it has CLICKED. Going on 42 years old.
I also agree that IV is the best of the series. The other games are not really that great in my opinion, V has some good moments but IV as a package is unreal.
This is probably the first review I absolutely 100% agree with. Also one of the best reviews I have ever watched, not just because I agree with what you say. But because it was beautifully crafted and came out ridiculously professional.
Mastering the driving in this game and becoming really good at driving whipping past corners and going in between traffic at top speed after 30-40 hours is really satisfying.
Getting this game on release day and playing it for the first time was one of the greatest feelings in my life, I don’t think it can ever be recreated, and honestly GTA IV is my favorite game of all time. I was completely immersed in this world full of strange and outstanding characters, in a small but yet huge world that is liberty city. I would find myself so invested in the story that By the end of the game I was emotionally drained as if I were Niko. I can never get bored of this game even 13 years later I still find myself completing the story even though I’ve gone through it dozens of times. (In comparison to the 1 time I completed GTA V’s story in 2013) I’m planning on completing GTA V’s story once the new version comes out though.
GTA 4 holds more of a special place in my heart than San Andreas or Vice City. I never had a PS2 growing up but when my parents finally decided to give me a PS3 for my birthday, this was one of the first games I asked for along with the console, given it was just released at the time. The memories and fun this game gave me when I was young is irreplaceable. And now, after becoming matured and understanding the story and themes of the game, I can say it's one of the greatest pieces of modern art ever created.
Awesome retrospective, albeit the game doesn’t take place in the 90’s, both GTA 4 and the later published Episodes From The Liberty City that had come out by 2011 takes place in the year that the orginal GTA 4 had come out “2008”
9:46 sounds like you mixed up Niko's betrayal by Darko and the catalyst for him leaving for LC. His regiment was ambushed and killed during the war, not after.
Very well done video and great production quality (except the resolution). Thank you for covering my all-time favourite game in such detail! Your channel deserves way more recognition, you‘ve earned a new sub :)
The Euphoria animations you see when shooting people is so GOOD. The way the cop falls at 12:04 after being shot at. If you have seen videos of people getting shot on bodycam police videos. It is exactly like that.
I love so much that for the entire first third of the game, Alongquin seems like paradise, the place everyone is trying to get to, and once you get there everything will be OK. Then you get there, and it's just as bad if not worse as anywhere else. There's no where to go
Great video! I reinstalled this game and am currently playing through again. After spending a decent amount of time in GTA V, my opinion of GTA IV being my favorite title in the series - as well as the best title in the series still stands. Story and DLCs are solid… and most importantly (for me) - grounded.
Wonderful review that more than did one of my favourite games of all time justice. I hope gta 4 gets remastered, a profoundly immersive game ahead of its time. Driving through liberty on a rainy quiet Sunday afternoon with goodbye horses playing will never be forgotten.
I find it funny that even tho i basically grew up with Gta3, Vice city, & san andreas, long before Gta4... i feel like this is the most nostalgic one in the series.
GTA 4's overall departure from that sunny gangsta setting really did capture a lot of us. The cold setting alongside the muted color palette is a real nostolgia hit too. Also too add, the soundtracks GTA 4 had has the status of being video game soundtrack accolades. The dark sounds really capture the whole vibe of the game. It almost makes us want to live in this fantasy which is a hard thing to capture in an audience. The missions were amazing, the mechanics were the best in all of the series and the characters are probably the best written characters in the whole franchise. I just hope whenever they take us back to Liberty City, Rockstar do not butcher it. Because this game holds excellence.
Great review... I hope it has brought some players back and even some new players. Those who appreciate realism, detail, and thorough story lines would appreciate this game immensely as we do. You mentioned the dating perks weren't much to talk about, but I wonder if you experienced the one girl you dated that would rid your wanted level, that one was incredibly helpful I thought. Though she wouldn't do it if you got to five or six star wanted level but below that it was great - if you could call her in time.
NEVER have I ever been engrossed in an open world game like this before; all of its flaws and yet all of its little niches of detail that may not seem like much to the casual player in reality adds an unparalleled layer of immersion that makes the whole experience of the game SO easy to get lost in and seamless, it’s honestly a little ridiculous.
GTA IV was a classic. It's hands down the most alive city Rockstar has ever made. Nothing comes close to Liberty City. I'm replaying it now on PC with all the best mods it's a blast.
Best Gta game in the series, they can't remake it even if they want , everything was perfect in game,, people hate driving in the this game but i love the driving , it was satisfying ,,, driving does not seem this much addictive and fun in gta 5, everything was top notch in the game, cars felt like real cars ,,,,, gta 4 was amazing ,,,, and just like the game this review is also perfect.
The radio songs might be average in GTA 4 but I personally think the talk shows are ads are the best in the series here. Finally someone that also thinks this was the funniest in the series I remember me and my friends laughing at the heart stopper commercials in the tv ads.
I still play GTA IV every 2 weeks or so. I think it's so much better than every other GTA game. The social elements and the grounded, realistic setting makes it so much more enjoyable than the others for me. It feels real. I'm a very serious gamer and PlayStation collector and this is my favourite game of all time.

This was an amazing review of gta 4 and has been ny favorite one. I love the soundtrack of the game and yeah some stations weren't touched when I was younger bc I only wanted the rap and classics. But going back a lot of it is just perfect for it. Like LCHC has a lot of new york hardcore bands. And again the beat station with djs that give it the ny feel even more.
Very good review, extremely well-written! Had me nodding my head while watching the video. This game has the best story of all GTA's released so far, and I love the car physics. Just wish they didn't mess up the PC-port as much as they did, but at least it still can run better than the original console versions. V's story still feels very underwhelming, the whole... Uh, "Hollywood-movie" thing it has going makes me sigh. And always was very forgettable, in my opinion. IV isn't.
11:40 Another great video as usual. Blind fire RPG? Lol. I remember the hype surrounding this game leading up to its release. Everyone was talking about the cover system. First GTA with a cover system! Fasten your seatbelt. You can take cover now. While I will admit the cover system was a big improvement over previous GTA games, it is still flawed. GTA 4 was a tough game, but I enjoyed it. I actually had to beat the game with a cheat code because I kept failing the same escort mission over and over again. Love that 3 leaf clover mission. Epic 👍🎮🔫💻📺😀
Niko is Serbian and makes references to the ‘Yugoslav wars’ throughout the game. It is also mentioned at the very beginning of the game: “Niko, your English is better than my Serbian”.
"GTA IV wasn't a graphical powerhouse" lol what, when this released it blew everything else out of the water, specially on consoles. it's still a technical masterpiece today on PC where it has aged best.
One moment that I’ll always remember was on my first ever playthrough. It was the mission where you have to kill someone after disarming them. I sucked at hand to hand combat so I took a gun from a police officer I ran over in a car, did the mission and lol and behold I was able to use the pistol. One shot to the head later and I finished the mission. I felt like I was using my head where gta 5 and especially red dead 2 are insanely restricted in what you can do during a mission. Not that gta 4 campaign doesn’t have its problems; It’s clothing selection is limited, you can’t buy or mod/ store cars, the friends thing became more annoying than anything by calling me just as I’m going to do a mission, it’s driving isn’t the easiest to use, and an overall lack of things to just buy. Making the money you get from the bank job kinda meaningless.
Wow dude, that was really something. You have true passion for GTA IV. It's just a shame I didn't have the same experience, I found that the satire clashed with the melancholy atmosphere more often than it supported it, the campaign felt unnecessarily long, and quite a lot of the time I really struggled to see why Niko would be motivated to do half the things he does in the game. In spite of that it's clearly a well crafted, highly polished game that apart from it's visuals and sluggish driving mechanics has aged quite well.
I think of this game as a moving painting, So the graphical Fidelity never really bothers me, because it looked beyond that. I’ve played Grand theft auto five for the past 9 years, and I hadn’t played grand theft auto four in a long time until they made it backwards compatible on the Xbox. Upon replaying grand theft auto 4 multiple times and five, I have come to the conclusion that the fourth game is the better made game. Graphical fidelity is not everything, the way the physics work and the game is structured is superior than five. Why rockstar continues to push a lesser game onto us I have no idea. Though, the opposite would result in IV getting a remaster, but at this point I think rockstar should just leave it alone. Note: apologies on my terrible grammar I used voice to text. Subscribed!
I dunno if I have misunderstood you but the ship sinking wasnt the betrayal, that was during the war somebody in the unit gave their position away. Niko was a people smuggler working for Bulgarin when the ship sank, Bulgarin tried to hold Niko accountable and said he was in debt so Niko was kind of in hiding from Bulgarin but he had also managed to track down Florian to Liberty city where his cousin lives
Yeah 4 is my favourite in the series as well. Incredible atmosphere and story and everything. The two DLCs was awesome too and sadly the last offline DLC rockstar blessed us with :/
Kind of confused why you said auto-aim was implemented in San Andreas? It’s been in the series since 3 lol that game would be almost impossible without auto-aim
Nick Bellic is one of my favorite game protagonists of all time. I get why a lot of gta fans were angry after the cut backs on gameplay and all the little bs things you could do but I thought the story and characters and writing made up for it ten fold. But my opinion of course. I was blown away the first time I played through 4. Never thought a gta protagonist would ever be such a genuinely likable guy.
GTA IV has an incredible protagonist in Nico Bellic. Someone who is so believable, so human - which makes his horrible actions that much more understandably - and awful to witness.
I found GTA IV a bit stale when I first played it, about half away in, but on a second play through I thought the game was a lot better. I came to appreciate the game for its plethora of details and realism. It actually has my favorite driving in the whole series.
Good video. A couple things: game takes place in early 2000's not late 90's. Niko is Serbian--not Bosnian. This is important to Niko's story as it was the Serbian minority that did most of the killing. Look up Slobodon Milosevic.
Seriously, I know half the comments are about that, but how the hell do you not have more subs?? This one of the best reviews/retrospective I've seen on the platform, and these are my favorite type of videos. And it ain't just because I love the game and you explained everything that's good about it but mainly because of how you did it. You explained your points with many examples and with no fear of talking about the actual flaws of the game. Keep up the good work man, you just gained a new sub!
I grew up with gta my whole childhood basically, starting with gta 3. I love and respect each game. They are all amazing for their time. And all have left their marks in my life. While gta 4 was a huge step away from the formula that was brought before it, it is very much another grand classic that Rockstar released.
The most immersive GTA ever made.

But going back a lot of it is just perfect for it. Like LCHC has a lot of new york hardcore bands. And again the beat station with djs that give it the ny feel even more.
The dark and "depressive" feeling of GTA IV is by far my fav aspect of the game, along side the driving mechanic
This right here Is hands down a great review and you sir keep up the good work ,hope to see you in the big leagues one day
Really appreciate the kind words Ahmad, gives me a big boost to create more content, thanks for watching!
Quality on this video is exquisite, you're channel will go onto do great things
Thank you brother
Nothing beats GTA IV easily in my top 3 games of all time
This game came out when I was 13, it was literally like a drug I couldn't stop playing, it was the only game where it exceeded my expectations.
Keep making videos, dude. Your effort and dedication will pay off.
Epic 👍🎮🔫💻📺😀
This is really high quality, please make more like this :)
Niko is Serbian and makes references to the ‘Yugoslav wars’ throughout the game. It is also mentioned at the very beginning of the game: “Niko, your English is better than my Serbian”.
Underrated video it's perfect the voice fits well with the tune of the game
Cheers!
"GTA IV wasn't a graphical powerhouse" lol what, when this released it blew everything else out of the water, specially on consoles. it's still a technical masterpiece today on PC where it has aged best.
Love the video! Keep up the good work!!❤️
Cheers Tony appreciate it :)
Quality content. Great job on the retrospective! Commenting for the algorithm ✌🏼
This video is beautiful man. Love your review style. Instant sub
Appreciate it bro
bro where are ur subs bro the quality of this video deserves more views
Wow dude, that was really something. You have true passion for GTA IV. It's just a shame I didn't have the same experience, I found that the satire clashed with the melancholy atmosphere more often than it supported it, the campaign felt unnecessarily long, and quite a lot of the time I really struggled to see why Niko would be motivated to do half the things he does in the game. In spite of that it's clearly a well crafted, highly polished game that apart from it's visuals and sluggish driving mechanics has aged quite well.
Thanks for the kind words man much appreciated
@@cultureshock8435 No problem 👍
Subscribed!
best game I've ever played in my life
This might be my favourite review on this website. Fantastic work. I suggest tweaking your titles to fully take advantage of the algorithms.
Cheers bro much appreciated. How would you recommend tweaking the titles?

I've subscribed , good job on the video , I play it atleast once every year .
Cheers mate, if I had a PS3 over here I'd play it every year too!
The two DLCs was awesome too and sadly the last offline DLC rockstar blessed us with :/
Undead Nightmare...
Kind of confused why you said auto-aim was implemented in San Andreas? It’s been in the series since 3 lol that game would be almost impossible without auto-aim
I remember this one took me a minute it was during my binge drinking days so don’t remember much about it.
Great video man, disliking GTA IV should be a crime in itself lol
GTA IV has an incredible protagonist in Nico Bellic. Someone who is so believable, so human - which makes his horrible actions that much more understandably - and awful to witness.
Been playing this game for 13 years when older brother bought it, I’m 25 now
Fantastic content. Just subbed to you and I can’t wait to see what else you’ll do!
Much love brother
I found GTA IV a bit stale when I first played it, about half away in, but on a second play through I thought the game was a lot better. I came to appreciate the game for its plethora of details and realism. It actually has my favorite driving in the whole series.
Good video.
A couple things: game takes place in early 2000's not late 90's. Niko is Serbian--not Bosnian. This is important to Niko's story as it was the Serbian minority that did most of the killing. Look up Slobodon Milosevic.
Yeah, when he said "late 90's" I was like
Uh...
Hold up
the best thing about this game for me is the story and its ending ..... its just unforgettable
