Cool! Here in Australia, Qantas had a couple 737-800s painted in retro liveries. One had a livery that was seen on the 707s when they first appeared on Qantas, and another had a livery called the “V Jet” livery.
In late 80’s early 90’s I used make the struts for the Airbus. Then I worked at Manchester Airport, refitting aircraft, my first 747, Richard Branson got off the plane. It was amazing to be so close. Worse refit we had to do, Air India 737. Amazing times
I flew on a BA 747 with the Negus livery once back in the early 80s, and flew BA 747s another few times in the late 80s and 90s with the Landor livery. It's not just the outside that changed. Back with the Negus livery, I remember that the economy seats were orange. With the Landor livery, the economy seats were blue. There were also overhead bins down the center of economy on the Landors but only a ceiling down the middle on the Negus. Part of reason for these changes was because when swapping from Negus to the Landor livery, they built entirely new aircrafts, they did not paint over the old livery. The designs were a little different too, particularly with the upper deck being shorter on the Negus 747s and having only 3 windows on each side, where the Landor 747s had longer upper decks with over twice as many windows on each side

Whilst the BOAC livery is perhaps the most impressive, this Negus livery is my favourite as it takes me back to my early days of being an avgeek.

This aircraft is absolutely beautiful. I have seen this plane before, going directly over me (I live near the airport) and it is amazing, stunning. About 3/4 times I see it I have my camera so I have it on my photos haha. Absolutely spectacular, thanks for making the video!

No Aero bridges then in old Perth airport West Aust or Singapore was Still Payar Labar airport & Bahrain heat of the night landed to punctured main landing tyres from a hard rough landing 2 half hr delay tech stop refuel change of landing gear tyres. Down the staircase into the Terminal then Bahrain. I got close up close to big land gears and heat of engines turned off disembarking aircraft as all passengers did then for refuel & clean and fresh catering for the past 7 hrs to Heathrow leg on 747 100s series. I also flew 100 series in Negus BA colours in 1984 Perth Auckland via Brisbane RTN Auckland Sydney Perth WA home on 747 100 series. Of course was British Govt owned then .. ex £10 Pom ..
You want to get up close and personal with these things....check out the museum of flight in Seattle, Washington. Amazing. You get to see and board the first 747 and 787 as well as one of the Concords. They have the first 737 though you can't go on board. Many cool things to see....well worth the visit and the 12 hour flight from London!!
747’s best ‘outfits’ were British Airways and of course the iconic PanAm. She always looked sexy and ready to take you some place exotic in that livery.
Landor livery with the BA crest is my personal favourite. Flying LHR to CPT in December on a Boeing 747-400 flight BA0059. Spending Christmas at Hermanus beach with family. 🇿🇦 🏖 🐳 🌞🍹🎅
Who knows? With 34 BA Boeing 747-400 currently in service that will no longer be in the fleet after 2024 ✈️ 😔 💸 RIP. Born in late 70s, which is why I like the Landor livery. Childhood memories of British Airways during the 80s & 90s.
Beautiful livery. I prefer the subtle additions in the Landor designs. I take it they never re-visited the "Utopia" livery? That was controversial at the time

It is a total shame that it has been retired one year on. It's now at Kemble Airport as from yesterday and it will sadly stripped for parts. I hope Noel can do a video from Kemble before they all go.
Good video, it's really nice to see those 747s adorned with such a cool throwback livery. I am genuinely surprised this was allowed in today's day and age of paranoia and beurocracy, mind you it still surprises me you can visit the flight deck pre-flight, although I've never done this as I am aware the pilots have a lot of work to do and would feel like I am intruding. They're probably sick of people asking silly questions like "will you do an ILS landing" so I never bother! I imagine there was a beady eye or two while people were near the landing gears. Hopefully get a chance to fly one of these as I'd like to fly a BA 747 to experience those RB211 engines... only problem is you have to also experience BA!!
Loved the first 2 retro liveries, BOAC & Landor, but this one....mmm..no it’s actually worse than the current one. I still remember the horror of seeing a VC10 in this livery, it managed to turn the most beautiful aeroplane into something rather prosaic....it didn’t do much for the 747 either...me thinks..

I realize most of us don’t know your background, but post 9/11 for someone to get access to the ramp, you’re either media or someone with some serious juice. Especially at an airport as huge as Heathrow.

Three of the four retro livery birds still exist. BOAC was sent to eCube in Wales for preservation and ended up being scrapped.

My favorite is Landor. Had my first 747 flight in July 1983 American Airlines JFK-LAX. My last time was with BA in 2009 LHR-DEL.

The livery matches with the age of the interior. You should visit the museum of flight in Seattle and tour the Boeing Everett factory.

This livery was introduced actually in 1974 when BOAC and BEA were merged - not the 1980s. In the early 80s, the word "Airways" was dropped.
