Phil got lucky representing the flush when Mike had the flush. That's a case of having too much respect for the better player. We have all done it they have a mental hold on you
Matasaw discussed this hand and said he put Ivey on a full house. Its on youtube on the following season. Mike was criticizing the play where Ivey won a large pot against the young bad player (forgot his name) with the Ace high flush and was called with King high flush. He said that was the worst call he ever saw. Then Ivey needled him about when he laid down king high flush. The mouth said he put Ivey on full=house.
@@eljimberinoq5518 I think Ivey in his mind was representing the Flush. He put Mike on an over pair and when mike looked at his cards to see if he had a flush he knew he didn't have AA. (people for some reason remember their suits with Aces more than other pairs. The funny thing is Mike later on said he put Ivey on a full-house. This deduction makes no sense based on how the hand was played. This is why Mike has gone broke many times and needs to get staked for tournaments. Its actually surprising how some players don't study the game who you see on TV. Only a few have taken their games to higher levels due to admitting the game has evolved. (negreanu, Ivey, dwan types their games constantly keep up to date)
I am unsure if it was appropriate for Benyamin to comment "Two Kings with a club". I am sure that if he can guess the cards then Matusow potentially can think that Ivey saw it also and that's why he bet.
Perhaps I am a bad poker player but I would definitely have called the reraise. Losing with a King high flush to an Ace high flush or a full house is no shame. Surprised Matusow didn't make that move.

I don't know. It's just a common line. You check with sdv and if villains bets you are not winnings anymore and turn the hand into a bluff especially when you are oop and villain checked on turn back and more especially when villain is bad. Bluff must work more than 50% to show profit so mutosow must call 50% and look... He tanks with basically his second best hand besides some slowplays 😂
No offense to Phil Ivey, but this is more of a terrible fold by Mike than it is a great bluff by Phil. If Phil knew Mike had Kc there's no shot he's attempting this bluff. Probably put him on a range 7,8,9,10,Qc. Mike has to make this call 10/10 times or else he's being incredibly exploitable. If Ivey has pocket 4,6,7 or Ac then so be it. But that's even more unlikely since Ivey at that time liked to fast pair sets on boards with IP PFRs on boards with draws. All in all, if Mike is too afriad of losing ~$40k making this call then it means he's playing stakes waaay out of his league
Might not of ran that bluff if Mike doesn’t do the club check n say forgot what I had. Seemed genuine which caps him at a flush. Ivey range is uncapped in that board
Yeah, I think the card check was a huge tell. Phil's gotta be thinking that Mike would remember if he had the A of clubs without checking the cards, so the card check means he has a lower one.
He couldn't have run off anyone else at that table with that raise BUT Mike. What he knew about Mike: had a flush, maybe KK, QQ, AK, AQ. But he also knew Mike was a weak player who needed the money. Mike was NOT playing optimal poker with a bank roll and could be easily manipulated, and he also just wasn't as sharp as others. Mike also saw himself as a loser with a victim mentality. Phil knows this about Mike. Mike can be bullied. I know what you have, and know you are weak. All of that comes into play.
If you look at the way the hand was played, this is a great hand to bluff by Phil. Matusow was the original raiser from middle position representing a strong preflop hand (big to mid pairs, AK, AQ). Phil on the other hand is in the big blind and could be defending with a number of hands (mid to small pairs, suited connectors, Broadway hands. So Phil has in his range sets of 4s, 6s, and 7s. He also has some Js, AJ, KJ, QJ, J10. He also has the made straight draw in his range 35. Phil is also most likely to have the A of clubs in this spot giving the idea that he could be calling preflop with any big Ace or Suited Ace.. Phil is most likely betting on the idea that the only strong hands that Matusow has is an over pair, or a few A of clubs, and the unlikely JJ. Maybe Matusow has a few Broadway J hands.the likelihood of him folding to a raise is very high based on all the hands Phil cold have him beat with. I'm all, it was the correct fold by Matusow, even though he had Phil beat in hand. And it was a good spot to bluff by Phil . So to some things up, either Matusow has the board dominated with quad Js or a Broadway hand with the A of club. Or he has a marginal hand that can be folded to a raise. Phil Phil on the other hand could have any boat, Nut flush, or a straight.
You do realise that Matusow beats straights and trips like AJ? He's got a flush himself, and the second best one at that. So I think the fold is probably incorrect since Matusow is almost at the top of his range here. If he fold the King of clubs here, I think he can be too easily bluffed in this spot.
@@fritzzz1372@fritzzz1372 thank you for saying it. This guy wrote a book in a yt comment and doesn't seem to realize Mike had the 2nd nut flush. He loses to full house and Ac only. For MM to believe Phil has Ac, he must believe Phil called the bet on the flop with A high and then checked to the aggressor when he turned the nut flush draw. PI would not check the nut flush draw on the turn out of position to a guy who just c bet the flop. He finally got big equity in the hand, I think he would bet that. Most importantly, with 4 to a flush on the board, Ac out of position is very unlikely to check that to the guy who slowed on the turn when the 3rd club hit. He's at risk of not getting his value bet paid for hitting the 2nd nuts.
Of course folding the winning hand can be the correct action. Clearly Matusow put him on a pocket pair, likely 77. I think Ivey disclosing an A was a mistake. Albeit a sly one, admittedly.
You should watch Daniel Negranau own Hellmuth in 3 straight hands (I think). Hellmuth folds a full house if I remember correctly. It's hilarious as Hellmuth is losing his mind.
@@paulg6274 What's hilarious is that this situation happened to another player where Ivey actually did have the A of clubs and villain had K of clubs and Ivey went all in. Villain did make the call and Matusow said "that is the WORST call anyone has ever made". In his mind Ivey could never be bluffing so no surprise he folded here.
One low key thing in this hand is I think Phil is giving Mike a big pair because hellmuth tank folded and he could be going off his read also. However I don’t think Mike is ever betting without a club. So at worst Mike maybe has the 10 of clubs. But eeeven that he probably doesn’t bet. I think the worst hand Mike shows up here with is the Q of clubs. If you’re gonna play tight then you need to be able to bluff catch well. Problem for Mike is that he is probably thinking phil knows that he is never betting that thin here so either Phil has some maniac bluff or he has him beat. But we know Phil isn’t a maniac so he probably timed this bluff well. Mike really looked like he didn’t like that turn card. Bet- folding that river is really bad. Nothing better is ever folding there and worse hands from a solid player which Ivey has could turn it into a bluff. Mike is probably not snap checking back the turn with 44 or 66. The turn is an amazing card to bet for value with those hands. Maybe Ivey put Mike on a J? It really leans more towards Mike didn’t like the turn. I do agree with the other comment that Phil got a little lucky because Mike had a pretty strong hand. This is potentially the worst hand Mike bets on the river. But given the action and flow of the hand it’s possible that this maybe the only hand Mike has.
this was set up all by mike checking his cards, this told Ivey everything he needed to know, you know for sure if you have a full house or a a high flush, when he checked to see if he had the flush and then value bet Ivey now can figure that the best hand mike could have is the exact hand he had which could be beat by A of clubs or by any pocket pairs of 4,6, or 7 all hands which Ivey could have easily checked with being out of position to get mike to bluff. This is why you don't check your cards. even doing so as a bluff is a bad idea.
Dude shouldn't have been playing poker if he didnt have the money to call a raise with K high flush. The pressure of losing another 30k lost him the hand. If he had been deep stacked enough to begin with he would've let it rip regardless if he looses or not bc that hand is good enough to win 99% of the time. Phil wasn't playing with cards- he was playing with fear and greed.
I dunno..... Chris Moneymaker had a pretty epic one to win the WSOP with... (yeah, technically he won the title with the 2 pr hand, but the bluff 1-2 hands before gave him a monster lead and if he lost that hand he was in serious trouble.
The board got worse and worse for Mike's range and it was obvious he wasn't betting strong on the river, which Ivey would exploit a lot of the time. Ivey reps a full house. Ac would most likely directly bet river after c/c on turn. It would have been a great call, but probably also an objectively correct one.
The only thing that doesn’t make this the greatest bluff of all time is that it's against Matusow! Aside from that I don't think Ivey could pull that off against anyone else at that table!
Unless it was a fake tell from Mike, which it wasn't, there's no way he could have had a full house when he says "forgotten what l had" and checks his cards.
Way I sees it, MM really has to ask himself why PI would check the river if he just hit the runner runner nut flush. Doesn't PI HAVE TO value bet that? There's 🅾️ guarantee MM value bets in to 4 clubs after slowing on the turn. The narrative PI is spinning doesn't add up. The genius in PI's play is he's going against a tight player and he called the bet post flop with nothing to make this very move, which takes huge balls.

Matusow played his hand so face up with his action on the river
Exactly, he gave away so much information, opening the door for Ivy to bluff and closing the possibility that he might be representing a full house.
@@rbaddict2947 The way we bet or call is genuinely the means of interaction between poker players and you bet on the river yet you have no clue while being countered. Well, I really have no words especially for players of this level...
But what else could he have done other than bet second nut flush?
@@koladeabdulrahman3359 THe point is Matusow gave away too much info with his mannerisms/tells (allowing Ivy to sense weakness), then he folded when he should have called. You call someone who bluffs a lot in that situation. Pretty obvious mistakes that a pro shouldn't make
@@rbaddict2947 I love how freeroll players on TH-cam give poker advice to professional players.
When Mike looked at his hand, he tipped off Ivey that if he had a flush, it was pretty insignificant. So repping a bigger flush or boat made sense.

Ivey was repping a full house...
@@eljimberinoq5518 he said I had the ace . He was repping the nut flush
Wow that’s a dope bluff. Intimidation at its best. Ivey best in the world
I am unsure if it was appropriate for Benyamin to comment "Two Kings with a club". I am sure that if he can guess the cards then Matusow potentially can think that Ivey saw it also and that's why he bet.

That little smirk by Ivey did it. The GOAT.
Perhaps I am a bad poker player but I would definitely have called the reraise. Losing with a King high flush to an Ace high flush or a full house is no shame. Surprised Matusow didn't make that move.

Another hand I like was from fulltil cash game season 5 ep 5 I think.. Ivey vs Benyamin vs antonious.. where Ivey Ivey floated, got Patrick off his better trips then for Benyamin off his flush on the river by the way the board came out. Simply great play 🤙
That wasn't a bet on the river it was a check-raise
What show/event is this from? I’d like to watch all of it with this lineup
The description says "Phil Ivey has just 1 hand to represent and manages to get a fold." It was actually two, correct? The ace of clubs and a full house?
I’m snapping every single time the way that hand played LOL

@@chriswilson1968 15 years ago here in Houston game was crazy too. Easy to play when you see the cards
"what you have queen of clubs or something?" He knew exactly what he had and that he could get him off it.
everyone knows dwan has like the top10 sickest bluffs to his name all with more money involved
When I first saw Ivey I thought to myself the Tiger Woods of Poker
When was this
Poker so easy back then. In 2020 ain’t no one folding kk with 2nd nut flush 😊
Can you please learn the difference between "might not of" and "might not have" ? Thanks.
When the entire world was playing Checkers …
Phil Ivey was the only one playing Chess.
I couldn't sit there listening to them play with those chips constantly
Folding the winning hand is never the correct fold. That's the dumbest saying.
Of course folding the winning hand can be the correct action.
Clearly Matusow put him on a pocket pair, likely 77. I think Ivey disclosing an A was a mistake. Albeit a sly one, admittedly.
No way Ivey would have checked the turn if he had the Ace of clubs.
I would not call it the greatest bluff of all time.
I would call it the dumbest fold of all time.
Paired board...second nut flush...against one of the greatest players of all time. Its not a dumb fold
@KingGogh Still is. Ivey or not Ivey, math distribution is the same. The bluff was mediocre and the laydown was absurd.
You should watch Daniel Negranau own Hellmuth in 3 straight hands (I think). Hellmuth folds a full house if I remember correctly. It's hilarious as Hellmuth is losing his mind.
Definitely!
@KingGogh dumb fold at its finest, what's the chances of ivey having the ace of club slim chance.

He leaned on him with the bigger stack. Mike fighting for survival hoping he will catch something big later. Been there before
Snap call. If he has Ac you just got to pay him. Yes it’s paired… if he has the boat or quads again pay him.
This is more like the worst fold then the best bluff. Ivey wouldn't have bluffed if he knew what Mike had.
He knew Mike had a K or Q high flush obviously
He even said after the hand “did you have queen of clubs?”
Mike's mouth gave it away saying "can't remember what I have"
One low key thing in this hand is I think Phil is giving Mike a big pair because hellmuth tank folded and he could be going off his read also.
3 to 1 to call the river what a dumb fold
this was set up all by mike checking his cards, this told Ivey everything he needed to know, you know for sure if you have a full house or a a high flush, when he checked to see if he had the flush and then value bet Ivey now can figure that the best hand mike could have is the exact hand he had which could be beat by A of clubs or by any pocket pairs of 4,6, or 7 all hands which Ivey could have easily checked with being out of position to get mike to bluff.
