Skywalker's plan would only have been a war crime if his surrender had been accepted. Once his offer was rejected, he was completely justified in attacking.
Not true: Anakin had planned to use a false surrender from the start, it did not matter if the Separatists accepted it or not. Also, the Separatists began questioning the surrender only after they realized that the ship was empty, and they did not actually reject it: the Separatist admiral merely asked Anakin to explain himself, and Anakin just ran away.
Ahsoka Tano coming up with Thrawn's favourite Marg Sabl strategy is probably why Thrawn looked like he messed his pants when he discovered who she is in the Ahsoka series.

Or perhaps it is a simple color coding for “blue” being the “good guys” and “red” being the “bad guys”. Though, as we know from the opening crawl of ROTS: “ _ There are heroes on both sides. Evil is everywhere_ “

I always find the "not a war crime because it's in a different setting" to be such a vacuous argument. All fiction is a reflection of the real world, and what is good or moral in a fictional setting represents what the author considers good or moral in the real world.
