    Alan, I was hoping you could do an episode on sleeping quarters inside vessels/corvettes/war ships? What are the creature comforts in a ship when you decide to catch some well earned shut eye? Do you sleep in comfort or just a rectangle cut out if the side of the wall? I'm guessing in some of these ships, most owners live out of their ship, so it would be interested in seeing what their private rooms looks like and what amenities a private room has?

    Somewhere in the old canon it was noted that smuggling included legal goods. The Empire drastically raised taxes on trade/shipping to pay for the massive navy and smuggling included any freight in which you wanted to avoid taxes.

    The YT-1300 came in 3 varieties.
    YT-1300 F (Freight)
    YT-1300 P (Passenger)
    YT-1300 FP (Freight & Passenger)
    The Millennium Falcon was originally a F. But after 12 different names, 7 different owners, 2 abandonments and crashing into a cruise liner. Half of a FP was used to replace the missing half. Since no 2 YT-1300 are identical, they are strictly designed by the purchaser, the cockpit can be on the left, on the right, centered, or completely encased & Hidden, there's also a outer hall attachable shipping compartments, 4 in a set to add a extra 100 metric tons of cargo space.

      I wish I could design my own YT-1300fp, and not the RPG website version but have a real floorplan layout. Redesign some of the sections for comfort, have some droids for co-pilot/gunner/maintenance, and be able to do a full retrofit after a couple of years of hauling cargo/contraband and passengers. Getting a better generator and hyperdrive for better computer systems, shields, armor and sub light engines. And get this all finished just before the start of the clone wars...

    I'd prefer a YT-2400 or a Mark III Bulk Transport.
    The YT-2400 has a larger cargo bay than the YT-1300 with even more nooks and crannies for smuggling.
    The Mark III is just an upscaled Mark I with ample cargo space and is immensely upgradeable.

    • @leaaronsanchez
      @leaaronsanchez 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The YT-1300F has the same 150 metic ton cargo space. And if you get the outer shipping containers that goes up the 250 metic tons of cargo space. The Mark III is trouble it's slowing atmospheric speed, with a class 3.0 hyperdrive with a class 20 backup hyperdrive. The Empire used them as bait to draw in privateers and Pirates. Sure they have 160,000 metric tons cargo space and hold two YT-2400s inside, but it has no Shields no armor and only one laser cannon which is so weak it needs two or three shots to destroy a TIE fighter which is also unshielded. And because of the slow travel speed if you have a full crew of 10 you would have to restock your consumables every stop.

    • @thepurpleapple
      @thepurpleapple 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm a big fan of the YT-2400 too, didn't think jt could carry as much cargo as a YT-1300 though, isn't it quite a small frame?

    • @TheCaniblcat
      @TheCaniblcat 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@thepurpleapple Going by both Wookiepedia and the old Star Wars d6 RPG The YT-1300 has 100 metric tons of storage for the standard version. The YT-2000 has 115 metric tons and the YT-2400 has 150 metric tons. This may be due to more efficient designs maximizing the available space within the spaceframe (there's a LOT of wasted space in the YT-1300 if you look at the design drawings).
      HOWEVER, the YT-1300 is unique in that it can also act a a Push Boat (the opposite of a tug boat) due to the placement of its "mandibles" and cockpit, allowing it to vastly increase the total hauling capacity.

    The small freighters could also do double duty as Bounty Hunter vessels, once upgraded.
    And a big advantage of such ships is that it can pretend to be a smuggling vessel, so as to not alarm potential criminal targets, allowing a Bounty Hunting team to get up close.
    And more unscrupulous Bounty Hunters can even do double duty and use it for smuggling as well. Being a Bounty Hunting would be great cover for a smuggler, and they can also steal the illegal cargo of Bounties if they are very scoundrelous…

    • @TheCaniblcat
      @TheCaniblcat 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Most YT-series transports would make excellent bounty hunter ships as a portion of one or more cargo bays could be sectioned off into prison cells. I had a YT-2400 modified for just this purpose in my d6 SW campaign. YT-2000 would also work well as one of the 6 passenger cabins could be converted into a cell.

    I actually tended to favor the lone scout as a smuggler ship. Cheap, 125 metric ton cargo, single pilot, lots of spare parts, good sensors. And the ship was common enough with both sides of the conflicts that it would be easy to have multiple transponders for avoiding entanglements
    Might not have much passenger space, but depending on the version (the b version for military) it had a very good hyperdrive and speed stock
    And the single laser was easily upgraded to dual lasers and a turret could be mounted (some in legends/rpgs had them)

I like the looks, it is very rugged, I don't know if it has a nickname, but we always referred to it as "the space turtle" in our tabletop game and it lived up to that name. With some extra protection and armor to make up for lower speed, it was a fantastic ship.

That one ship is a jack of all trades and frankly for its size was more powerful Then most freighters. I love everything about the ship. From its practicality. To its speed.armor. weapons. Ability to comfortably house a crew of 6. Great for smuggling. Transport. and bounty hunting. I especially loved the world war 2 fortress bomber look. Frankly it looks like a ship that would be built it wasn't built to just look good it was built for the working man. Illegal and legal working that is. It's highly customisable like the YT SERIES. Frankly this ship with its co confortable living quarters and common area and the shear amount of ways it can haul cargo and protect it makes this a spacers dream ship. It's defiently the ship I would use. ITS A QUALITY SHIP.

    I'll go for the gazante class light Cruiser because it can hold a *LOT* of cargo and is very customizable. Me and a few faithful crew members smuggling needed goods for the highest bidder; like say there's a planet blockade and the people on the planet needs food or weapons (assuming the blockade is from enemy forces), we'll just smuggle those things in after negotiating a price with the person asking for our aid. And what better is the fact that it's very customizable, which means we can turn this ship into a cloaking force to be reckoned with. >=)

    Is it weird that i find the Gozanti a very cool ship? Not so much the original one, but i really like the later winged variants (The ones shown in Rebels and Mandalorian) I'd love to see it become a hero ship someday.

    I would choose a zeta class shuttle. Its very slow but has good durability and moderate weapon capabilities. Also the detachable pod allows for easy drop offs.I would add a vcx fighter droid turret, and replace the thrusters with something faster

    I would have the CROC gozanti with a class 1 or better hyperdrive, military grade deflector shield and a couple more quad laser turrets. That way I could haul freight, do some bounty hunting, smuggling and protect myself or a small fleet.

    The VCX-100 came with absolute basic self protection laser turrets. Hera Syndulla upgraded and modified the "Ghost" with (illegal) military grade weapons, adding torpedo launchers and the "stealth" equipment... 😉

    Next week I'm going to start with my first star wars roleplay. I play a small smugler and my starter ship is the ghtroc 720 freighter. I hoped for a stock yt 1300, but I will need to earn it. Atleast I got a r2 droid too.

    I like the ebon hawk. If they had filled in the space to the left of the cockpit and the port side nacelle with another cargo area and put a cloaking device and alternate power station in there it would be the perfect ship.

  • @darwinskeeper421

    I'm afraid I have a soft spot for the YT-1300, I even used one as the main ship for a smuggling character of mine. The other interesting thing was that there was also a center cockpit version which is how I would have gone if I had the credits.

    a zeta class cargo ship would be an excellent smuggling ship..
    with the underslung cargo compartment you can drop one massive load of product and pick up another with in seconds .
    and just think of the modifications :) give that thing a badder hyperdrive and stealthy mods..you could give the ghost a run for its money , the best part , in imperial space you could fly around virtually unnoticed. especially with a few access codes .....you could go from kessel to Coruscant with anyone batting an eye 😎

    Any opinions on the YV-929 ?
    Playing a tabletop game now where my GM selected it as the ship for my smuggler. As far as I can wrap my head around it, its packed tight unless its dimensions or capacities are represented incorrectly in the books. With a crew of 4, a passenger capacity of 6 and a cargo cap of 150 MT, along with tougher armor, shields and more guns, it blows the stock YT-1300 away although its just a bit slower in atmosphere... but its half the size for some reason.

    • @andrewl3728
      @andrewl3728 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My RPG group used a YV-929 over several campaigns. The dimensions given in the various source books are on the small side, IMO. Judging by the illustrations, it should be a similar width and length (if not a little longer) as a YT-1300, but about twice the height.
      As a smuggler or bounty hunter vessel, it costs a little more upfront, but you end up saving more compared to up arming and armoring other similarly sized light frighters. Our group kept it mostly stock, only replacing the ventral docking port with a concealed quad laser cannon turret and adding disguised triple blaster cannons to the wing tips for close air support.

    • @Neuralatrophy
      @Neuralatrophy ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andrewl3728 According to the capacity and such It should have been close to a Gozanti in size but kitted for freight over crew and passengers. 12 crew, 12 pass, 75mt vs 4 crew, 6 pass and 150mt. Those stats alone should stick em in the same ballpark for internal volume.

      As I recall, part of the reason the Twilight came to grief was that she wasn't properly maintained, so I don't think Anakin can fault Obi-Wan too much for her demise.
