  • How good is this cake? Well, every time that I serve it, someone tells me that it's the best chocolate cake they've ever eaten. It is also the easiest cake to make without opening a boxed mix. As a bonus, the recipe is below ▾▾
    The Best Chocolate Cake
    Serves 10 to 12
Have all ingredients at room temperature. Prep 2- 9 inch pans with butter and flour, or baking spray. Preheat your oven to 350℉
In a large bowl sift together:
    2 cups sugar
1- 3/4 cups of all purpose flour
    3/4 cups cocoa powder
    1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
    1 teaspoon salt
    Add wet ingredients:
    2 large eggs
    1 cup buttermilk
    1/2 cup vegetable oil
    2 teaspoons vanilla
Begin mixing the batter, with the mixer running add:
    1 cup of hot coffee
Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes
Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for about 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few crumbs clinging to it. Cool the pans for about 10 minutes before turning them out onto cooling racks.
    Cool completely before frosting.
    Grandmom's Chocolate Frosting
In a large bowl, mix together:
1/2 cup melted, unsalted butter (1 stick of butter)
    2/3 cup cocoa powder
When the cocoa is blended with the butter, add powdered sugar and milk alternately.
    3 cups powdered sugar
    1/3 cup whole milk
    1 teaspoon vanilla
Begin with one third of the powdered sugar, then one third of the milk. End with powdered sugar, then add vanilla. If the frosting is still too thick to spread, add milk by the teaspoon until you get to the right consistency. Enjoy!

Hello Nina, I hope you and the family having a great summer, I have a question please, I made this cake 2 times with the same measurements and it came out great, I'm going to make it in a tray for a birthday cake, should I double the amount or keep it the same, what tray size do you recommend? TIA❤️

Hi Nina! I have a question... If I use Dutch process cocoa, do I need to alter the amount of baking soda? FYI: I will be using buttermilk. Thanks!

    • @ninainthekitchen1455
      @ninainthekitchen1455  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That is a great question! You change the amount of baking powder when using Dutch processed cocoa. Substitute the baking powder with 1/2 the amount of baking soda. In other words, for this recipe completely eliminate the baking powder, the amount of baking soda will be
      2 1/4 teaspoons baking soda.
