There he is. I can end my day now.
😂 so we were all just waiting for Chris to drop his analysis then. I was sitting here like “come on Chris, I gotta be up at 6am tomorrow to watch stage 2!”
Agreeded! Thanks Chris!
🤣
Same here. 11pm in Brazil, right before bed time 😴
😜👊🦋💤
Frank van den Broek showed the world he is a real teamplayer. This is credit for life and every teammanager is watching.
He looked so genuinely happy crossing the finish line and while getting those jerseys - considering he gifted the yellow to Bardet! Awesome stage for him all the same and great seeing how happy he is with his performance and a great result for the team and Bardet
@@JSBax I wonder if it was preplanned
Hearing Horner call something or someone a knucklehead is simply therapeutic 😂
Right?! Due in part to the fact that his face lights up with such Joy when he calls people out for their knucklehead-ism!
But what I really love is I don't sense any judgment in calling them out, it's all for us to learn.
😂🦋👊
@@marcusambrester Chris is the Don Rickles of bicycle commentary. You aren't anybody until you have reached knucklehead territory.
@@stevenmeyer9674 DUDE! I'm a huge Rickles fan and a huge Horner fan! That was the best comment EVAH!

Visma LAB riding on the front for Wout was perhaps not a wise use of energy, but I think the stage was a great morale boost for the team. Jonas got through unscathed, losing no time to Tadej, and Wout was up there at the pointy end which would have been good for his confidence going forward as well. Even denied Tadej bonus seconds.
Indeed Wout gave Jonas 4 seconds.
Happy for Bardet and his young teammate!
Van Den Broek deserved the win. He towed Bardet all the way. It was an unequal relationship. He should have been team leader in hindsight.
@@dadonweIfarebut he got pulled over the last climb, i think they needed each other. But the young man had himself a wonderful race. I wish he could have won but I do love it for Bardet
Me too. That fantastic 💪👊🦋🇫🇷
@@dadonweIfare He probably grew up looking up to Bardet, now he's in the position to set up his leader to wear the yellow jersey as a veteran Frenchman. He did the right thing. It was beautiful.
@@dadonweIfare No, no, and no....
No grand tour is complete without the Butterfly effect race analysis! Thanks! 🙏 👊🦋
Amen
Congratulations to Bardet and hat's off to the young kid Frank. This two guys kept us on the edge of our seats. It was a wonderful stage to watch. I'm very happy to see Jonas finish without any trouble. Thanks Chris. Have a great day. 👍👍👍♥️♥️♥️
Thanks for explaining to me what I watched for 5 hrs today.
👊🦋
@@ChrisHornerCycling Do you remember David Duffield commentatimg for Eurosport in 90s and 00s, he would talk about what's happening until it had stuck! would go over everything, local wine, cheese you name it.
I always hate seeing a long hardworking breakaway get caught in the last 50 meters! DSM duo deserves the win! Great day 1 tdf.
Would’ve been a tad more exciting had the peloton been just a few seconds faster. But I agree, very happy to see those two get the dub
@@groovechildcreations I mean they were only five seconds behind. Can't get that much closer
The hardworking paid off. kudos to the boys❤
I wish Jan Hirt and good recovery and no pain in his two front teeth that was broken.
Saw today the team already had a dentist fix his teeth on Saturday evening. Still a painful injury for a few more days, but at least he won't have to deal with broken teeth for several weeks.
Waiting all day for this!

@@dadonweIfareyou got wait until they get to the queen’s stage you knucklehead! 😂
Great ride for Bardet and a great first stage. Hats off the the race organizers for getting this thing started with a bang.
Found meself shouting at the telly for Romain to win. So happy for the kid, he's been so entertaining over the years, giving it his all, only to come up short. But he rode with such intelligence yesterday, pacing his teammate up the last climb, because he knew that they needed eachother, to have any chance of a win
Chris, I have been waiting for your video for 10 hours!
Hehehe. I was working on it for ten hours if that makes you feel any better. Well 8.5 hours and then the video was uploading for 1.5 but if you add Garrett’s time in there we are well over 20 hours for a 20min video. 😂🦋👊
Appreciate your work knowledge and experience Mr Horner, and son.
I'll eat my hat if Cavendish can win a stage in this years tour... he may as well go home today. Thanks Chris for your excellent race reviews , you really are good at this , its not easy to be clear , entertaining and insightful.... I used to watch the WEDU coverage , but you are blowing them out of the water with your ability to stay focused on the days racing while keeping us entertained with your personal insights and humor ... so big thanks, keep it going.
What an amazing finish! -- the achievement of a lifetime for Bardet and the master shows the apprentice how to win. You've got to figure Van Den Broek is in for a big pay raise (green jersey, white jersey, most combative, 2nd place..as a debutante!). Bardet was super chill afterward -- what a badass. Nilsen Powless said after the race nobody in the peleton wanted to pull so they had to. this is racing at its best. vamos!
Yeah he his nicest guy and universally liked. This is his last racing season and he retires year end.
Finally!!!😅
Well, it's always nice to save the BEST for last~🔥👊🦋

Your channel is such a blessing for cycling fans like me. Thank you thank you
Loved the color-coded arrows in that one slide. Great idea!
That finish reminded me of last years Tour when Lafay won from attacking and Wout and Pogacar attacked on the same side of the road and Wout came up short again 2 years in a row.👀🦋🦋
I just got finished watching season 2 of TDF unchained and Wout was PISSED. The behind the scenes shots of their reactions is a great watch
Yep. One more teammate and Wout’s in yellow. Painful for Visma. But Wout will win something this year. 😱🦋👍💪
@@ChrisHornerCycling Amazing bike race and complete surprise. I'm wondering if Wout's in yellow after Stage 2. However, Tadej said in his pre-race interview that the second or probably third stage would be the one to try something.
Epic Bardet and team. Awesome start.
Love how you can make me appreciate this sport
i'm just a simple Knucklehead, i see tBE from Chris, i click

Seven climbs in all that heat… brutal… Great insight as always… 🍻
It was a beautiful stage, my friends and I were pushing the duo (Frank and Romain) on the tv, chearing for them to win!!! great to see Bardet finally getting the yellow jersey!!! congrats to him and Frank of course!!!
Love the TdF themed background. Always on point!
Other team cars were giving cav team members ice for him. He looked in rough shape in that climb. The funniest part of the stage was them patching in the team radio at the end of the stage. The team director completely lost his shit on the radio. Imagine being at your redline hearing that in your ear.
Cav was vomiting 🤮 I think he was sick 😷
Those team directors think their screaming helps?? It is over the top
Normally it happens in bus but I do recall a TdF stage or two when it was over the radio. Ok maybe there was a lot more than two times. 😂🦋👊
Cav handed his radio over to the car.
Good stuff Chris! When UAE pulled briefly, it appeared they wanted to test Visma. Also, watching Jorgenson’s post race interview, he seemed very well recovered and acclimated to the heat, given the effort he put in. Look forward to Stage 2!
Let’s hope so. The kid super strong. 💪 👊🦋
@@ChrisHornerCycling Jorgenson was throwing shade at another team during the post race interview. I wonder if it was directed at UAE. I loved your explanation of UAE strategy. Looking forward to your Stage 2 analysis.

Sir, thank you for details. I am watching cycling since i was a little kid(now 40 years old). Now i fully understand the tactics of cycling. I watch races with a voice in my head ( what will Mr. Horner say about that). Thank you very much.

Well improved studie design and layout - looks good Chris. Kudos to the new improved lightning and picture quality. Well done!

Great coverage Chris. Excellent restraint in the use of ‘knucklehead’, and the one time used was strong.

The best analysis!
What a great stage 1 route . And a fantastic finish , love it when breakaways get rewarded for their hard effort
Love the new wall/room and the camera angle.
Thanks 🙏 👊🦋
I still miss the fireplace.
All I kept thinking during today's chaos was how good this breakdown would be. When the bigger names kept dropping I couldn't believe it. I had high hopes for both Lazkano and De Lie today, and whooosh. Out the back. Thanks for the content!
VDB was clearly the star of the show, imo he deserved the yellow, he basically carried bardet to the finish line, but can also understand why they'd prefer the frenchie in yellow lol
Agreed. That kid was special today. I would have given it Bardet also since it’s a French thing going on and great for the sponsors but someone over at DSM needs to give VDB a serious bonus. 🦋👊
Green and white jerseys are pretty good consolation too! Great ride from the kid.
It’s Bardet’s last TdF it made total sense to let him win the stage. Ain’t that the role of a Domestique?
Bardet could have dropped him during the last climb; that's what he said in the post race ITW.
@@user-fd1qq9mv6uit would have been a long way to the finish solo
One of the best advertisements for bike racing I’ve ever watched feel bad for FvB that would have been a life changing win and he may never get the chance at yellow again but he has certainly put a good price on his head. Chapeau to Bardet he has put on a great show over many years.
Great coverage.
Love your new setup!
💯 looking sharp! I knew you'd give dsm the 👍. Their tactics were like on point with your sermons. Van Der Broke looks awesome. Love to hear some thoughts on his potential. Thank you Chris!🙌🦋👊

Best analysis is right here folks!
Today's finish was so much fun. Super happy for Romain and Frank... Such a nail biter. That shot of the peloton bearing down on the break away is always so ominous. Also earlier when I saw Visma on the front, i could just hear Chris! Also, Tejay and Brent on NBC need time to get used to wearing suits....
Ah.. Enjoyed that
Last but not least. You are always worth the wait, as we see who the first knucklehead is of the 2024 Tour.
👊🦋💤👍
That trophy shelf, is a nice touch!
Bora and ineos just chilling while EF and trek pull an ineos of the past and work so hard for nothing 😭
I completely forgot to add Ineos into the video. I hate that cause they look super today. Finished with tons of riders in the front group with all of their GC guys there. 💪🦋👊
Love the new set too!!
Thanks 👊🦋
Me, too!
Thanks for interpreting a pretty surprising stage. I didn’t understand why UAE didn’t push a bit harder until you explained it.
EF and Visma rode for stage win for Betiol and Van Aert. And Pogi got a ride up all the hills and even rode in WVA slip stream for the sprint. Well done
BuyCycle - my next Cannondale. Keep up the good work Chris! Carmex to the max!
I wonder how many words per minute you were cranking out? You know it was a great stage recap to end the day when you are glad someone who deserves to win fights thru till almost the literal last seconds for victory!
Agreed. That was a nail biter all the way to the finish. 🦋👊🔥
Wout took the 4 seconds away from Tadej today
If Pogi lose the Tour by 4 seconds in Nice 4 Sunday from now, somebody should be thanking Wout.
Or you could say. Wout gave Pogi a chance to win some time. 🤔😂🦋👊
when Visma was at the front of the peloton, they were gaining on the leaders, but when the other dudes got up there, the lead stayed at 11-13 seconds for a long time. In effect, they slowed the peloton down.Wout stayed back in the middle of the peloton just a little too long.
Chris.... Waiting your analysis of stage 2!!!
Here we go. Season 5 (?) of watching the steady metronome of 100 new subscribers per TDF stage raise the Chris Horner show to 100k subs and beyond.
Bam. 👊👍🇫🇷🔥
The angle change of the camera makes me think I’m about to pass you lol😂…on your left!
TDF is officially back when Chris reviews the 1st stage 😊 great result for the 1st stage! Delighted for Bardet 👏🏻👏🏻 ALSO that buycycle ad was very easy on the eye 😅
Come up for some AIR Chris - very brilliant!!!!
Great to see a breakaway win - fantastic 1st Stage
This video was a new dimension .....much like the back boards behind you 😅😅😅
My money is on vingegaard after today's stage!
I will take that bet. Pogis race lose- and I’m rooting for Jonas and Visma
All four looked really easy on the pedals is what saw. 💥🔥🦋👊💪
It is early days...let us see how things develope
What was the EF tactic in that stage? I literally have no clue why would they would chase Healy down and then have him work? The front two were stronger than anyone expected, but once that became clear, why didn’t Healy just sit up and hide in the group? He’s a guy that can realistically win a stage and now he’s burned a huge amount of energy for nothing.
Wait you didn’t mention 14th place “my man Victor Campanaerts”
Yay!
I would pay money to watch a livestream with your race coverage commentary. I hope Peacock reads your comments. You’re better at explaining it than anyone currently on the two broadcasts (is live to keep Jen’s on the Moro though, he’s golden 😂)
Chris, love your channel brother, it's one of the Big 3 I watch religiously. I'm glad you're making some bread through sponsorships but please don't turn into The Move where 48 mins of their 1 hour long podcast is commercials. At least make the podcast an hour and 48 mins long for us lol. You're a real one.
Chris, how is it that a big guy like WVA can climb so well while the equally talented MVDP struggles?
Really good question. WvA is also a really good time trialer, but not MvdP. Yet, Mathieu can do long range attacks and time trials for over 50Km in a race. My Observation is that MvdP cannot deal with heat well, since a I cannot recall a great performance above 30°C. Maybe thats an explaination for yesterday. Chris?
Their riding for different things that's all.
Mvdp it's probably just going for stage wins which means he will save his legs when he can.
Wva has added roles to fulfill in his team because of Jonas Vingegaard.
Wva maybe more suited to longer climbs than Mvdp but that maybe down to different training because their own goals.
I don't consider that the stage is finished for me until I see Chris horn's analysis
I like that the polkadotjersey was taken by a 78 kg heavy and strong Jonas :)
???
@@kokonanana1 Jonas Abrahamsen starved himself to be a light climber some years ago,it was so bad that he stopped growing, but 4 or 5 years ago he startet eating a lot, grew up 5 cm taller and 20 kg heavier. His watt/kg dropped a bit but his total watt increased. Whats nice is that he proves that going superfast uphills is possible without starving yourself to beeing superlight.
Man it was fine racing, isn't it? UAE stayed fresh the hole race, Bora too, Visma and EF were all over the place hahahahaha
It was fine coverage too chris, thank you and your son for that
Fair play to Bardet. We got off to a good start
Hi Chris, Thanks for the analysis and your thoughts on the strategies. I see what you did there with the new background. Wondering if the sign HORNER can be placed into corner wall ... HORNER's CORNER

Chris - one other question mark about Visma riding is they came within a few seconds of riding Tadej into a time bonus.
Maybe it's because you like heat. But I think the temps today had a big impact on the race today. Especially w Cavendish.

Well said Chris!! You and the lanterne Rouge podcast said something similar to one another.
Seeing UAE sit back and let the others do the work was great. Cause their past mistakes you would expect them just to bury themselves to get the win.
Bigger stakes here, you should give the Guys at The Move a few pointers on analyzing a race. Cause they were all for Visma doing what they did today.
I have to feel that Visma LAB weren't blowing their guys up 100%, but were in the front as a show that hey jonas is here and he's ok. With no race days he needed to get out there and play it. I dont think "playing possum" would've tested his legs as much. who knows. lets see their tactics for tomorrow
