White 2-155 First trip to the field since overhaul

  • Everything is back together, the White 2-155 is ready to get back to work. I hook up to my 25 foot White 273 disc and Brillion packer to give the Hercules a nice break in load and get some field work done. Ride along and see if anything goes wrong!

    The worst part about taking a piece of equipment out after it’s been torn down that far. The stomach ach you get from your gut twisting in a knot every time you hear a different noise. Lol

      Knew an operator that continuously had mechanics baffled at his complaint on his machine. Kept complaining about a "rattle", turned out, a bolt had come loose in the hood. :)

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oliver never seemed to build much of a dealer network in the south, and if there weren't Oliver dealers, there weren't going to be White dealers later on. There were some here and there, but I don't know why they didn't catch on more. I think if Oliver had made a better push to enlarge their dealer network outside of the midwest, things may have turned out different.

    No front weights needed on that tractor I take it then? Looks like you may need to do some TLC on that disc. Front right gang, a few are either loose or bent. They're a bit "wobbly". We always used a moldboard plow to break our engines in but, then again, our ground is pretty hard. Did a good job on that overhaul, give her a few hrs of hard work, she'll be good to go from here on. Great video as always. Cheers :)

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There were a couple bent blades. I just finished putting all new blades and bearings on the front of it today. For most of what I do with this tractor, I get along fine without front weights, and i figure why put the extra wear and tear on the tires and front axle if I don't have to. Thanks for watching!

  • @dalecornelius4374
    @dalecornelius4374 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Sounds like she's a runner. Anything I work on I'm always paranoid something going to come unglued when i take it out the first time. What's the difference between a 271 and 273 disk? There were a few 271's around here but I don't recall seeing a 273. There used to be a really good IH dealer here and pretty well had the market cornered with 490 and 496 disks. We had a Kewanee 1020 it was ok but i always wanted a 496. I finally got one that needs basically everything replaced on it but all we need it for is smoothing washouts so it'll work for now.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A 271 had an 1-1/8" square gang bolt, the 273 had 1-1/2" round gang bolt. That greatly improved their ability to handle rocks. There were a couple of other minor changes, but most of the rest of the disc was identical.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris

      I was just reaching in and grabbing the factory linkage to activate the remotes. I should add a don't try this at home, it can be dangerous.
      The disc is a White 273 at 25 feet wide, and the packer is a Brillion XL series crowfoot at 27 feet.

      Worked my way up, but did a little bit of everything. I started out power washing and helping out, then assembling new equipment, and repairing tractors. I learned alot restoring some of the old ones with my dad. Whether on the farm or at the dealership, I was always asking questions and I'm still learning.

      The 2-150 where I'm from would out pull most in its class (1975) and had more built in weight, not to mention the limited finance compared to their competitors.

      @@ThatOliverGuyChris I think Ive seen those White 271 272 273 go from 18 to 32 ft. I even saw one that was 12 ft because someone took the wings off. Kinda wanted it but dont have a tractor that can pull it.
      A neighbour, has a 24 ft Salford disk(which are built much heavier than the Whites), and he tried to pull it with a 140hp Massey Ferguson. He said it did it but it didn't want anymore. I would suspect a disk like yours on that Massey wouldn't be a problem for it in my area.

      This was the biggest 273, for wider models you had to switch to the 274, which used bigger tubes for the frame and had a wider main frame. The 271 was replaced by the 273 and the 272 was replaced by the 274.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The biggest difference is the gang bolt. 271 is 1-1/8" square shaft, the 273 is 1-1/2" round shaft. I've broke a couple of gang bolts on my 271, but never have on the 273.
