    The good old days remember the old 780 special spent a lot of hours sat on one of them, twanging the knife drive belt down the side of the seat, when it slipped when trying to cut through some grass (scutch). If you cut more than 10 acres a day, you had had a hell of a day, now they do that an hour!!! We first had an Allis Chalmers tow combine still got the engine some where. Memory lane!! Thankyou!

    Great video, its amazing that when I watch videos of old tractors working it takes me right back to the 60's on the farm, I can even smell the TVO burning again, wonderfull. Thanks for sharing.

    Another excellent Sunday night video to watch. It's nice to see the old Massey Harris machines have survived the scrap mans gas axe and are still working. I'll bet you won't find spares available on the shelf in a Massey dealers these days . Even Manners, the combine breaker, might struggle to find parts.
    I remember seeing a mint condition cabless Ransomes Super Cavalier on a farm that I went to bale hay on back in 1989 as the farmer had just taken delivery of his brand new Ford 6410 generation 3 four wheel drive with the Super Q cab which made it a rare beast as they were only made for around 2 years before the 40 series were introduced in 1991.
    The Fordson trencher on rotaped tracks is a very rare beast, and it's good to see it restored and working again.

    Odd arrangement on the B64 where the chaff is fed back into the feeder house. Great to see these harvesters, I worked on a Massey Harris sacking combine in the 60's but didn't note the model number. Also many of these are in the great book on the subject, "The grain harvesters" covering from early times (BCE) up to the recent (1990?

    • @Casterton-Vintage
      @Casterton-Vintage  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think it's the return elevator you are referring to? It's quite useful to see what's coming out of it but a little unconventional. I agree, "The Grain Harvesters" is a great book.

    That trencher was an old model, I can remember Hayhoe's of Norwich running some of them draining at Long Stratton. The power units were more modern Fords, must have been late 50s early 60s.

      @@Casterton-Vintage The more things change, the more people want to see how it used to be done. These m/c they can actually see how, and hopefully that means more volunteers come forward. The only way we can keep this going, is with new people with enough interest, and a little mechanical knowledge.

    Does anyone know what engine was on the Bamfords baler?

    • @ashleyvincent4098
      @ashleyvincent4098 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It is an Enfield twin cylinder air cooled diesel I think. The baler I believe is. Bamford Long BL60. There was one on the farm I grew up on. It was essential to regularly clean out the air ducts or it might catch fire! There was a long special brush provided! On ours the two exhausts were joint together with a silencer above the engine. The large driving wheel on this machine looks to have a bit of a wobble!
      Love all the footage including the Howard Rotehoe trencher on the Rotaped tracks. These machines were still in use by local contractors attached to Power and Super Majors in the early 1970s in Lincolnshire laying clay “tile” drains.
      Loved the 780 and 726 with the Austin Newage engine!
