@@bigtractorpower our neighbour has old Cockshutts and they don’t run often, but when he starts them up they have a specific sound that isn’t duplicated. Another has a bunch of old ACs and they still work hard, and a few are around just for parts.

Great tractor right there! Glad to see we're not the only ones still putting them to work out in the fields. We use a 1755 with a canopy for planting. A 2255 2wd cab to do tillage. Along with many other Oliver models.

My family ran Oliver tractors. We had 2 1850's and absolutely loved them. Our most used tractor had the fender fuel tanks, and 30 inch duals (totally overkill for our work). We had a hay operation with a New Idea 16' cutter conditioner, a New Holland hay inverter, a New Holland square baler, and a New Holland round baler. I'll never forget the sound of a Perkins diesel engine.

Great tractor, thanks for sharing. You do a great job assembling these videos. We ran Oliver tractors on our small operation in the 70s and early 80s. Later, after being involved in management during the tech bubble meltdown of the early 2000s, I can only imagine what cutthroat tactics were used in the early 70s by Oliver and MM guys trying to keep a seat at the table. The company eye goes off the ball and the results are now ancient history.

Very cool. The 1755 is my favorite Oliver. My neighbor growing up was all Oliver and Steiger. Today they are John Deere and Steiger. They ran a 1755 as well as a 1750, 1850, 880s and super 88s when I was a kid. They told me a few years ago they intended to buy a 2255 but wanted to see it first. When they got to the dealer the 2255 was sold and all that was on the lot was a 1755 so they ended up taking the 1755 home.

So was that a parent-bore engine like the 3208?? If so that's why there's not many around anymore-- the 3208 was a disposable engine, because once the parent bore wore out, without replaceable liners or sleeves, the block was junk.
Neighbor I used to bale hay for had a 1755, good solid old tractor, I guess I should have tried to buy it after he passed on. Not sure what happened to it. Only thing I didn't like was it was gas-powered, and trying to run a gas-powered tractor now will put you in the poor house if you're actually doing any work with it.
That's a nice old tractor in the video... except the stupid straight pipe. Those are fine for parades but on a working tractor, well, I know a deaf operator LOL:) Course maybe she stays in the barn most of the time and they just put her to work drilling beans here for the cameras and to stretch her legs a bit. Guess a guy can go deaf to put up with that awhile.
Interesting stuff for sure... weighed double what our roughly the same vintage Ford 5200 row crop weighed, double the horsepower, and double the price (without options). Interesting stuff!

There was a Minneapolis-Moline G-1355 what used a 585 ci engine 6 cylinder engine. It was also sold as an Oliver G-1355. The G-1355 became the WFE 2-149 shown in this video.

Why is that arm down on one side of the bean planter?

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That is a marker arm. The tractor follows the line it draws on the next pass to keep each pass matching the last one.

That mark's the centerline of the tractor for the next pass in the field. The arm is called a marker it just cut's a line in the soil to follow visually so you don't overlap or skip the areas with the planter. That's why when he turn's at the end one side comes up and the other side goes down as he works across the field.

Drove a old AC tractor raking hay back in the early 70s as a young teenager and it had only one front tire like a tricycle. When you hit a woodchuck hole the front end would jump up . Scare the heck out of me and that steel seat made your butt hurt after 8,9 hours.

Wouldn’t it be great to have kept the Oliver name going. You could’ve had green tractor versus green tractor instead of that battleship gray tractor I have a super 88 Oliver it is like me retired

    • @bigtractorpower

It is unfortunate Oliver was retired. It’s funny the green has come full circle. AGCO acquired WHITE in 1991 for their high horse power tractors. Today AGCO ‘s main line of high horse power tractors is Fendt which are forest green.

35 gallons as standard from the factory seems like a really small fuel tank, it seems like you would have to stop to refuel several times a day with a fuel tank that tiny. 😂😂😂

Worse thing white ever did. If they would of kept the Oliver name and figured out a way to have engine oil and only one hydraulic reservoir. And a better engine. Cat, Waukesha, Perkins and Hercules all need some major updates. I think if they would of picked one. And invested some money into it. And one reservoir for all hydraulic functions. They would of made it longer. I’m not going to say they would still be here. They just didn’t have the sales numbers they needed. But the 3rd gen whites of having one reservoir for all hydraulic functions, and the switch over to Cummins engines. They would of made it longer than White did. Also I would of made the wheelbase longer on the mfwd with larger Hp. They would of sold more too. You don’t need a tight turning radius when you start pulling 18’ chisels, 22’ field cultivators and 24’ discs. Plowing you can’t turn the plow sharp enough when braking out a field till the start of the second round as well. Guy want ride comfort when your in them all day. 1855 and bigger should of been a foot longer wheel base. If they were not so rare my 1855 would get the wheel base stretched. But going to be a toy once I restore it. And just not enough built to customize in my opinion.
