White 4-225 and 2-155 planting 2020 soybeans

  • Thanks to my sandy soil, I was able to get back in the field 2 days after a multi day rain. The White 4-225 starts the day pulling the White 273 disc and Brillion crowfoot packer to prep the field. The White 2-155 then takes over with the Great Plains 30 foot drill to get the 45 acre field planted.

    Those 3208 Cats and and the 478 CI White /Hercules engines have a nice sound. I loved my 354 Perkins and still love my 6.0 L Perkins. Nice to see people who still love and use older equipment

    Thanks for the ride, Chris! The ride on the 4-225 sure brought back so wonderful memories. What a great tractor! Your experience with the door latch was funny!!

    Between Tires, Batteries and Door Latches on all your equipment it will keep you busy that's for sure!! LoL Glad to see your planting is coming along good and the 2-155 is running smooth. Its still wet in my area we cant seem to string enough good days together to get things dried out. Thanks for the video...

    Never watched the drive shafts go round before. Narrow row beans sure do help on weed control.

    You have about the same luck as I do. Dad locked himself out of the 4440 at the fuel pump about a month ago. It took us a while to figure out the lock turned and was causing the grief. We finally finished corn today (6/1). We had 4 days in the field total for May not all were full days a couple were afternoon rainouts. I believe we had almost 10" of rain for the month. Hope we didn't use up all the rain for the summer already.

    It might just be the video, but i definitely think you can tell just by the sound of the 2-155 that it has the high compression pistons. It sounds tough, kind of like a mix between the hercules and a cummins. Now i want high compression pistons for my 2-135 lol. Great video Chris!

      It definitely has a different sound than before, I like your analogy. A little more of that diesel sound. I started it on a cold morning a few weeks back, the block was 38 degrees, the air about 42, and it started like I had just shut it off. That right there makes me want to put a set of high compression in my 2050.

    I like the idea of planting more plants to smother the weeds rather than just keep spraying them. A bit of bio control.

    Those White cabs must be bad for their latches. I remember our neighbors 2-155 gave him some trouble too. Only his was the inside out. Once he said he got locked in his cab and didn't have his phone with him. He got home late one night when his wife was in bed sleeping. He shined the lights at the house revved the tractor up for an hour before she finally woke up.

  • @lukestrasser
    @lukestrasser 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Chris, the 2-155 sure seems to be running sweet! Have the new engine nerves and hyper sensitivity to noises gone away yet? With all the field work you've gotta have close to 50 hours on the engine by now. Hopefully all is well with it.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I'm getting used to the sound it makes now. It's just a couple hours shy of 50 now. I added a little engine oil that first day of discing back in April, and it hasn't used any since.

    • @lukestrasser
      @lukestrasser 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ThatOliverGuyChris The lack of oil consumption is comforting! Probably as broken in as it's going to be by now. Good for the next 10,000 hours now Chris! Here's hoping that the weather continues to cooperate with planting, then growing.

      Everything is in the ground. I just did a drive by of the corn , it's all up with a good stand, and the earliest planted beans are popping up nicely. Looks like I'm off to a good start.

    Have you noticed any fuel efficiency gains from the higher compression on the Herc?

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's hard to say, it might be a little better. Biggest thing is starting. I had a cold morning start, the block was 38 degrees and the air temp was a around 42. It fired up like I had been using It 10 minutes ago. It seems snappier speeding up under load, and I thought it handled the disc easier than before.

    Was wondering if you had room under the hood to mount an air compressor that way if you had a low tire no problem just air it up.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It wouldn't be too hard on the 4-225. The 2-155 might be a challenge.

    Ok I've got too many questions but I'll narrow them down to only 2. 1 why the duel driveshaft on the 4x4 and 2 how many acres do you farm.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The top shaft provides power for the PTO and hydraulics. The bottom shaft connects the pinion shafts of the two finals drives.
      I farm about 900 tillable acres.

    9:18 Two drive shafts? One for PTO and one for drive?

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Correct. The top one runs PTO and hydraulics and turns at engine speed. The bottom connects the pinion shaft between the 2 final drives.
