It is obvious that something is stressing the horse......Why isn't this addressed as an issue to those that are familiar with the house? I am an 81 year old, live in Maine, USA, and I enjoy watching the Guards, the horses, and all the things that you show in the videos. It is amazing to me, how many folks, in the public, are so rude, when it comes to these practices, and the King's Guard. I find these things all beautiful. Thanks for showing us! Bev in Maine

These horses stand for hours at a time... that is stressful enough because all they want to be doing is grazing and running in the pastures. These horses are used for one purpose only and that's to stand there as a showpeice for tourist because the King and Queens don't use Palace guard as security anymore. It's all pageantry. The horses go back to the stables once their shift is over. And that particular horse is used the most often... can you imagine just standing in one spot all day with a rider on your back.

@@Meriale46The horses don’t stand for hours at a time. They stand for one hour and then they’re replaced by the next shift. Unfortunately in that area of London there are regular protest marches that often spook the horses. I think I can here a loudspeaker in the background or maybe not. Horses occasionally get spooked, and if they do and the guard doesn’t get them under control, they’re eventually taken back in, for everyone’s safety. That is not a palace, it’s horse guards which is a military establishment.

Get your facts straight, the guards & horses don’t stand all day, they do a 1 hour rotational shift, they are brought water in hot weather & if there are any issues (like being stung by a wasp) they are relieved from duty immediately & are replaced.
The horses receive the best of care, they are highly trained, as are the guards who are SERVING members of the British Forces, they are not there to be a tourist attraction they are on duty protecting a Royal Palace!

@@gaynorball5233 This is a serious question: where are the horses taken after their shift? I can't imagine that there are nice green areas in the middle of London where the horses can relax and eat grass. So from the shift to the stables, then back to work, back to the stables. I imagine that would be very horrible. Even if they only have to work for 1 hour.

The lady trooper was trying to reassure the horse until the police eventually arrivied and the tourist who asked if the trooper needed help. Looks like it was a tack problem the horse had. The Captain or the Lieutenant asked questions more than anyone else. A nit late in the day. But the lady trooper is very experienced with any horse she rides.

The guard is oblivious when the poor horse was lowering his head and stomping its hoof over and over trying to tell him that something was wrong and all he did was pull harder on the reins and bit in the poor horses mouth. I didn't see anyone actually help the horse after the tourist pointed out an issue. Shameful! It's all Pomp and. Circumstance. and really not necessary when you have armed guards there. No one is going to jump off of a horse to use those swords on anyone.

To me the guard was admirably calm despite the fact that the horse was not. He maintained full control of the animal the whole time. These horses must be selected for proximity to and acclimated to crowds of tourists, just as their predecessors had to be calm about the sounds of gunfire. It is possible that this particular horse was new to the job so to speak. Notice that after they moved out of the guard shack, he stood quite still. It wasn't the reins.

      @calaannkihata 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +104

Welll this lady Trooper is having an "off" day then; because shes making some rookie mistakes. Ill fitting tack is the issue. The bit is way to large for this horses mouth. 8:46, 9:10, 9:17 time stamps show how big the bit is. Its causing the horse discomfort. He keeps chomping at the bit and moving around because he's trying to get it positioned better in his mouth, in the center of his mouth.
The bit keeps moving side to side. A smaller sized bit will not allow side to side movement like that. And then you can hear metal clanging together. Thats from this large bit clanging against the snaffle bit behind it. With this being a double bridle, it's crucial that proper fit and proper sized bits are being used. If not, this can cause sores and blisters inside the horses mouth and around the lip area.
And then the next thing is that her swords sheath was getting in the way of her left spur. She was trying to back him back into the guard house and he wasn't reponding to her leg cues on the left side. When she does get him back inside, you will see her look down at her left boot a couple of times, baffled why he wasn't responding to her cue. These are all basic things that even least experienced riders should know.
When those people mentioned the reins, what was happening was that the bit slid all the way to the riders right side, causing the ornate metal cheekpiece on the left to go into the horses mouth. Thats the whole reason why the horse was being fussy and agitated.

At 10:10 a civilian with a beard and pushing a lady in a wheelchair approaches and points to the side of his own jaw while talking with the mounted guard. While the tourist is speaking, one of the armed police officers walks up, assesses the situation, then backs the crowd away so horse and rider can leave the area. It may have been in response to the comments by the tourist, or it may have simply been time for them to exit for the end of shift inspection. Regardless, it was "immediate" in context with the tourist, and this is when it all happened.
I'm a minimally experienced equestrian, so I'm not certain, but it appeared from the horse's body language that there was a problem with the fitment of the bit...or the horse might have needed more training. Either way, the bit/bridle was definitely bothering the horse to the point of making it agitated. This "tourist" seemed to be trying to communicate the same idea to the mounted guard. It is easy to miss because the "tourist" is being somewhat low-key and keeping his distance in an apparent attempt to show respect for the location and situation.

Uniforms shiny and clean, sword same, but the building needs a coat of paint and filler, not to mention the shit in the arch the horses have to stand in! What sort of display is it when dirty in front of public? So many times these horses play up, and no wonder in these conditions and often with a wrongly placed bit, as in this case. As with any horse, if a rider is on it, it is more comfortable for the horse to walk about than to be standing almost still, for some time especially an hour! If you try carrying a load on your back, in proportion to your size , of course and stand still it wont be as easy as walking , circulation and alternative muscles in use.
Now if they were to have rottweiler guards, not the riders although some sound like they are, they would not have to remove them as soon as a protest came along, nor would any visitor go near them.

I understand she needs to maintain contact and control within the reins - however the addition of the double reins, the twin bits and the chin chain is a bit much in his mouth. Obviously the horse is uncomfortable with his bridle rigging by the constant motion , shaking of his head and heaviness in hand. This is not the first time I’ve seen this similar issue with the royal guard horses. It needs to be reevaluated. Along with this - the addition of maybe some sawdust or something on the ground to soak up the pee and possibly dampen the smell would add stability to the horse on those slick cobblestones. Adding to the safety and comfort of both people and horses.

I'd say, the possibilities of bit misadjustments and other malfunctions occur pretty commonly. Horses, are asked to do things out of the norm. All in the name of tradition. They don't know, tradition. They don't know standing for 45 minutes at a time, while hundreds of people walk around them poking, grabbing, trying to touch them. And still be perfectly in control. I'm honestly surprised more things don't go adrift. How would any of us appreciate a piece of metal in our mouths for hours and longer? With some person pulling on it, making it even more uncomfortable?

The care of these animals is horrid. Shameful. Just pay attention to their individual body language, eventually you will be able to tell them apart and their personalities. I’ve, in my head have named them ❤ by appearance or behavior. For example.. “two socks” is a naughty but if you pay attention, he has interest in little people. Look at their work atmosphere, it’s horrid. They have “learned” to or protect themselves by biting, kicking.. stepping on a persons foot… to curb the undesirable way they are approached. I look at this like animal abuse.. ant the guards look extremely over the bs as well. Entitled people with zero respect for ANYTHING… not following simple rules.. not hard at all.
    THE ANIMALS ALWAYS LOSE… SHAMEFUL.
