Ethan, this is the best demo of this plane I have seen. Great flying. I've got the original 300 and I think it has more potential than I have talent right now but I can see myself having even more fun with my plane. Inspirational!
Your skills continue to impress me, Ethan! And to think we were drinking around the campfire at SOS at Oshkosh just a few weeks ago! I'm about 75% of the way to flying this plane like you and every flight inching a little closer. Appreciate you posting this so I can continue to see the limits of this bird and improve my skills. Blue skies! -Mike from Chicago
That was an insane flight! You make it look so easy Best demo of this bird I've seen. Horizon needs to put it on their product page. I switched all my planes with AS3X to AS3X+. They did some black magic with AS3X+. It feels so natural and handles wind like nothing. Im so impressed with it. Especially with my EDF jets. Its so butter.
Grt flying Ethan. The throws on the elevator are not adequate out of the box for XA , 3d flying. After mechanical adjustments on both sides for max throw i got abt 45’angle on up elevator and 48 on down. Rudder max is 45 degrees each side. For XA 3d flying usually recommendations are for arnd 55 degrees for those surfaces i just mentioned. However it seems there is not even enough room to move the surfaces beyond the angles i mentioned. U were absolutely nailing it, and wonder what were the degrees of surface movements on your plane and any recommendations for how to move the surfaces more.
Hey Ethan, man you flew the crap out of it! I've been messing around with mine...updated it and tuning the AS3X+. Amazing. One thing...on the stop lock and stop lock release. With the lock I believe the lower the number the more effect it has. From what I understand that number is the percentage of your total gain setting that it uses as you bring the stick/gimbal back to center. The lock release determines how fast the gain recovers back to the full gain you have set after you bring the stick back to center. I noticed some bouncing/oscillation in the roll axis when you would stop a roll to a point quickly. That is what the stop lock and stop lock release will stop if it is set right. Your points will stop crisp with no bounce. On mine I have the gain in the roll axis at 30% (.25X), Stop lock at 25, release at the stock setting. I think my priority is at 110 or 120. So when I stop a roll...perfect, no bounce. If the stop lock release is too high (100 is) then the full gain comes back in so fast you still get the bounce. For me I don't want any tells that the gyro is there working, so that bounce drives me crazy if mine does it. Lol. Reading the Wiki page on the set up for AS3X+ it is easy to think that the higher the number the better, but in those settings it really isn't. Gary Wright had to school me on it. Once he explained it, I got it. Anyway, man, try that and see what you think. I love this plane...flies amazing, and AS3X+ makes such a difference.
Thanks for the kind words! I was talking to Miguel, the coder behind AS3X+, and he suggested just putting the stop release rate at 100 for 3D since he explained it to basically be how fast stick priority kicks in, which is nice for instantaneous / snappy maneuvers so then the gyro gain doesn’t interfere during them, and can kick back in when appropriate as determined by the stop lock. The aircraft can also feel like it has increased expo in initial inputs when the stop release rate is too low. I found his method for tuning 3D to be really helpful as he suggested maxing out stop lock rate and feeding in the gain until I saw a single bounce, and then was able to back down on the stop lock value until the bounce was no longer apparent. Hope this better explains how I landed at the numbers I currently have. :)
@@EthanAter Hey Ethan, man thanks for explaining that. I will try your settings and see what it feels like. Interesting though...I'm assuming Miguel also wrote the Wiki page on programming AS3X+ as well. I've printed that off and take it with me whenever I'm tuning...which to be fair I'm still very much learning and experimenting so I study that often. Some of what you're saying Miguel is suggesting is contradictory to what that guide suggests. Maybe what he's telling you is specific to 3D planes...which if I'm understanding is basically what you're saying. I may be seeing things, but it seems like I'm seeing bounce on your fast roll stops at a few points in your flight. It could just be that I'm not looking at it correctly. One thing I think will turn out to be a certainty, like other parts of a planes set up AS3X+ settings and preferences will probably vary a good bit from pilot to pilot depending on what they are looking for. So far I'm extremely pleased with the results I'm getting from AS3X+. It is such a step up from the OG AS3X as well as competing gyros. I'm amazed at how planes fly with it. I rarely felt like AS3X made planes fly bigger...more like it made them exceptional for what they are, but the + is a different breed. I have my 48 Extreme Flight Edge flying better than any 60" I've ever flown and in many ways as good as my 75" Edge (without a gyro). That is crazy. Anyway I'm still learning and asking questions a lot. We're going to do an episode on AS3X+, but before I do I want to learn more and experiment more. There are a lot of YT'ers that think they are experts on it already, I think for me that is a ways off. I'm more humble than most, and I'm not going to guide folks on it until I'm sure I know what the heck I'm talking about, lol. I'd love to interview/chat with Miguel. It would be nice to have an actual expert on it in our video to answer questions. Anyway man...thanks for sharing your knowledge with me!
@@ModelAV8RChannelright on man! I completely agree with you that AS3X+ has switched up the game in flight stabilization, and what’s awesome is how many different tunes for a plane can cater to different pilots. I think some of those bounces you saw in the video might be me missing my intended stopping position in my maneuver and quickly correcting back to it (typically occurs when stop past or before wings precisely level with the horizon or perpendicular to (knife edge). Gotta practice my stops more, lol! Miguel is a great dude, and if you’d like I can definitely hit him up and see if he’d be interested in joining you for an episode. You are very informative in your videos and I know talking with the guru behind AS3X+ would be a great video for the channel! :)
@@EthanAter Thanks for the kind words. We try to be detailed and above all...as accurate as we can. In my opinion, the best way to get the facts of AS3X+ out there.
@@ModelAV8RChannel Would love to chat! What I explained to Ethan is very much aligned with what I've written in the wiki. I think you may have been mixing up Lock and Release. The only thing I think is not directly on there was my recommendation of maxing Stop "Release" Rate right off the bat for 3D planes. The Stop "Lock" Rate tuning is described as I did to Ethan in the Advanced Tuning section of the wiki.
great video . I will be maiden it my skwing edge 540 67" this week and I would like you advice on my stick priority ,gyro gains, stop lock and release ? I'm using a spektrum AR637T receiver. I would really appreciate if you can help, thanks
Hey man! I recommend checking out the 3D AS3X+ tuning video that Miguel and I did. It gives an insight on some recommended initial settings. th-cam.com/video/OKYYPW-WsUQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=YXaV3y-awMHpxF7v
Typically the people who put gyros on 3d airplanes are looking for better tracking, better stops on snappy maneuvers, and more stability in low and slow maneuvers.
Hi Ethan , I'm wondering how much rate you have set in this flight.I would also like to ask this, I use TURNIGY 3200mah4S30C, 2800mah4S30C batteries. Do you think these batteries are suitable for the extra 300SC1.3M?
Your packs will probably be a bit warmer, as i usually recommend atleast a 45c or 50c with this plane, but you should be good! For dual rates i have 100% but I bumped up the travel to get as much throw for the elevator and rudder as I could.
Nice work as always, Ethan!!

I don't understand what is ad3x + does different than a regular receiver
AS3X+ is the gyro in the receiver. Regular receivers do not have a gyro or flight stabilization system.
Maybe I'm an idiot but what is the point of a gyro on these types of planes? For an EDF or a Warbird or regular plane yeah but these?
Typically the people who put gyros on 3d airplanes are looking for better tracking, better stops on snappy maneuvers, and more stability in low and slow maneuvers.
hi Ethan, I'm wondering how much throw you have on the ailerons.
I don’t have an exact measurement in throw, but the aileron servo arm and control arms are in the stock holes.

Rates and expo ?
Dual rates at 100% and expo is 40% for aileron and elevator, and 30% for the rudder.
