idk wat ur talking about I started Rhythm of War (from where i left off with the free early chapters) at 12 am this morning and just took a break to watch this.
I got a Question. What are some really good examples of a High Fantasy series that has these qualities?: -A fantasy world that is its own mythology -Epic fight scenes and wars -Intense magic battles -A hugely expanded magic system -The archetypical hero’s journey -Dragons, Unicorns, Griffins, Sea Monsters, Phoenixes, and other known mythical beasts -Stunningly beautiful and smart female characters and love interests -Romantic story arcs that involve love and sex -Conflicts involving politics(primarily conservative themes that are more positive than negative) -Themes and elements and faith and religion(with not a single hint of atheism or agnosticism) -Spiritual and psychological themes -Elves, Dwarves, Goblins, Ghouls, Vampires, Merfolk, Fairies, Centaurs, and other non-human races -Different languages that are spoken by non-human languages(and that the readers can learn and speak) -A feared and all-powerful dark lord who is after the main hero -the archetypal wise wizard -a community of wizards and sorceresses -Dark themes of tragedy, corruption, betrayal, and genocide -A tone that turns into being dark and gritty while always being mature from the start -Characters that are realistic and relatable in personality -Light and positive themes of faith, love, friendship, loyalty, honor, sacrifice and optimism
I really like this style of interview. It isn't a screen capture of a Skype meeting as both people used their raw recording footage and spliced them together.
I wish he would have done a separate series for addressing mental illness. The book was like a PSA for mental illness and it hurt the plot. It as like every character had to have this glaring mental disorder, except for Adolin.
@@breadcrumb37 There's a difference between character development and pandering for a cause. ADHD, PTSD, TBI, depression, DID, alchohol/drug abuse, child abuse, and autism. I'm sure I'm forgetting one or two but how many disorders do you need in one book....and make it prominent aspect of over half the storyline?
All the people I know who have met him say that he is genuinely like this in person as well, taking a lot of effort to make people feel valued and at ease.
Hats off to Sando Branderson for accurate representation. Even the pictures of the Singers that were commissioned for Rhythm of War do a good job of showing them as elegant and beautiful and alien.
As a huge ASOIAF guy, Brandon is such a breath of fresh air. State of Sanderson on his site is so refreshing. He tells you when he is gonna write his books and then he actually does it! Also he has a team that helps him and gives him feedback that he listens to. Like when someone tells George "Hey man maybe not so much time on the food descriptions"
@@coryhartley6135 absolutely. You also have to know what kinds of questions to ask and almost predict the kinds of answers the interviewee will give. People like Brandon Sanderson do a lot of interviews and probably don’t like answering the same five questions all the time.
After reading RoW Im so proud of Sanderson. He nailed DID, I have never read a book that captured the battle in my mind for control of my decision making.
Man I feel some validation hearing that Sanderson wanted to approach TSA from a Sci-Fantasy kind of direction. Reading Way of Kings and Radiance I thought I was going a little crazy reading about the shardplate, because I expected at any moment for someone to be like "My lord, we have unearthed a gigantic building in the plains!" but its not a 'building,' just a huge, 'beached,' spaceship. Then I learned about the Cosmere and things made a little more sense.
I watched Sanderson's lectures on writing. I really liked that he takes mental illness depiction in fiction seriously and put in the hard work to do it justice.
The guy is respectful and transparent towards his fans, and delivers on his promises. If there was an opposite light/tune to Rothfuss, it would be Sanderson.
I thought a more appropriate author for the comparison would be GRRM rather than Rothfuss, wouldn't you agree? He has almost become something of a joke

As a person with mental health issues I very much appreciate Brandon's dedication to writing realistic mental health. I am on my second read of words of radiance, I am continually amazed by how real the emotions and depth the characters have. I can't wait to dive into rhythm of war.
I'm struggling with depression and I was so relieved when I realized I could just tell my boyfriend 'pay attention to Kaladin if you want to better understand how I'm feeling'
I have to say: Daniel is becoming a fantastic interviewer. Quick, deep questions that allow the guest to speak to their heart's content and expand on topics without being constantly interrupted. Way to go, Big D. 🌝
Some of the most selfless people who are successful to me are those who help others learn how they got their success and pass down their knowledge. Full respect for Brandon Sanderson. One of my favorite authors despite i haven't read his books yet...(yet) I myself am a writer and value these videos of him disecting his material 💯👍
I love the part of him talking about Shallan. She was my least favorite characters in the previous books but so far from what I've read of RoW I like her more
Shallan for me was always the best character in the books. Kalladin and Dalanar are too much of a "characters" while Shallan always felt like a real person.

This was awesome!! Great questions DG, especially when talking about his book preparation for Stormlight vs Starlight. And listening to him talk about traditional publishing vs direct to consumer sell & leather bounds & novellas... I could listen to this man talk ALL DAY!
I think he said in the previous interview with Daniel that he looks through those kind of reviews (even gets his assistants to do so) and looks for consistent points and attempts to take it on board to try and improve. Says that the 2/3 star reviews are the best to look at for those kind of things since 1 star 99 times out of 100 will not have anything he can work with.
I pre-ordered a signed copy of RoW, looks like it will be awhile before I get it, sigh. Have to say thank you for releasing chapters on line to hold me over until I get it. Thank you Daniel for the great interview, loving your channel.

You can honestly tell how smart a person Sanderson is, and how passionate he is with the community. He is probably my favorite fantasy author of all time and he deserves it. Also, as of writing this comment I’m about halfway through Oathbringer and it’s so good.

Please ask him if he has Indian mythology or other influences in his books. Like Wit is an influence of Naradmuni and Shiv Parvati in Mistborn.
