Reminds me a good bit of Scanner Sombre. You wake up in a cave with nothing but your LIDAR scanner and headset to view what it scans. Everything is completely pitch black and you can only see what you scan. Game very much has a 'just keep going down' vibe to it, even though there are segments where you go up. Highly recommend checking it out, it's cheap (on sale right now for $1.79) and Jacob Geller recommends it too.
Watching this made me realise how we don't actually have many games with "going deeper" theme (or at least popular ones). Sure, you could bring original Half-Life as an example, but it's never the focus. Hell, the only popular ones are Subnautica and Little Nightmares, where you are more or less stuck in these enviroments and in order to progress/escape you need to go deeper and deeper. Even some games with this theme barely encourage you with curiosity, example being Barotrauma. You go deeper and deeper underwater towards the lowest point of the ocean while the creatures slowly get more and more aggresive, but there isn't much to explore: the paths your submarine travels through are basically zig-zagging corridors with an occasional open space, a dead-end branch or drop to an abyss. Caves have little to no variety, and abandoned structures such as stations, wrecks of other subs, beacon stations are all pre-generated with only loot and enemies being different
Oh yeah, it's an under-saturated market for sure. Maybe vids like this one will inspire some people to make games like that. Or maybe that's just me having a big ego.

Huh just found this but this is something I've done for about a year or so now. Just downloading random maps off the workshop and exploring. Cool to see others are doing the same and sharing the experience
I often just let my mind wander and think randomly. Videos like this I usually turn my screen off and listen to the commentary. Quite often during my listening I just start thinking about other things.
It's always such a pleasure to see these videos crop up in my subscriptions feed, and I'm excited to see where the series goes from here. The commentary and analysis is wonderful as always.
So glad I was randomly recommended this channel because it perfectly scratches that itch of exploring random or strange worlds. Much like The Librarian or VRChat world showcases. Excited to see what’s in store in the future!
The thing at 6:50 is probably a secure reserve. I work at a department store, and we have a similar looking (though slightly bigger cage) out the back amongst the reserve shelves. It's for keeping very valuable items, like consoles. Fun fact! Not too long ago, someone entered our store, darted into the back of house and CLIMBED UP into the secure reserve . They nabbed a PS5 and walked out the door. No one checked them on the way out, cuz they're not supposed to be stealable lol. We call that guy Spider-man. Honestly, I think Spider-Man earned that console. Anyways, we've now sealed off the top of the cage. Clearly this abandoned Sears had the same experience.
Hello Logan, I discovered your youtube channel just today. And I already love it, the calming voice, explorations of atmospheric maps both on Garry's Mod (which turns to be my most favorite game) and VRchat. Games running on Source Engine always had this indescribable vibe, I'm from Eastern Europe myself so most locations look familiar to me. There aren't many videos yet but I'm already loving it. Wish you all the best!
Your anecdotes are phenomenal, matched with a wonderful cadence of speech and a calming voice. Found one of my new favorite content creators, keep it up dude!
these videos are seriously so comfy, i know you brought up coffee but that is really the best comparison - it's like you're sitting down with a hot drink to listen to an explorer talk about their most recent adventure! these really hearken back to a near completely bygone era of youtube
3:40 I used to go to the dentist as a kid exclusively at a Sears in my hometown. My parents used to take us really early before the actual store and we’d have to travel through the automotive garage and a back access hallway to get to the appointment. It was creepy even before they went out of business.
I feel like this is a good introduction to "why you should play gmod" since gmod is basically anything unimaginable and this game mode, i call "Urban exploring with weapons from arc9"

40 seconds in, but as a kid that was one of the most exhilarating amd terrifying things in gmod for me, downloading some random map and discovering there's a massive underground complex, i was usually too scared to fully explore the largest ones, so they truly felt endless.

Huh just found this but this is something I've done for about a year or so now. Just downloading random maps off the workshop and exploring. Cool to see others are doing the same and sharing the experience
I often just let my mind wander and think randomly. Videos like this I usually turn my screen off and listen to the commentary. Quite often during my listening I just start thinking about other things.
god I love this series, these maps are so fascinating and somehow you always have interesting commentary even on the most mundane of areas
I love the casual talks and the information about your day or yourself. Super chill super cozy horror
Welcome aboard :)
Nice to be back again.
3:28 I bloody SAW that, in the crate maze. Well played, mapmaker AND video creator.
I FREAKING LOVE GMOD, MY HANDS ARE SHACKING WHILE I WAIT TO PLAY. THATS CALLED DEDICATION
The left behind stuff is actually very accurate, urbex locations often have many old supplies that were expensive but left for one reason or another.
Wish you all the best!
this series needs more attention, you've got such a damn good sense of humor. thank you for making content, awesome skeleton man :3
Thank you for watching. Share with your friends :)
That moment in the cabin was really nice actually, I feel like I could listen to you talk for hours.
Your anecdotes are phenomenal, matched with a wonderful cadence of speech and a calming voice. Found one of my new favorite content creators, keep it up dude!
Aw, thanks, welcome aboard ❤
just love this level of curiosity and imagination with a perfectly balanced sense of humor. brilliant video
Usually i get annoyed when creators keep on yapping, but with you, it felt calming. Like listening to your uncle talk about things from his life.
Clicked on the video and had memories flood me when you showed Overgrowth gameplay, wowie dude
these videos are seriously so comfy, i know you brought up coffee but that is really the best comparison - it's like you're sitting down with a hot drink to listen to an explorer talk about their most recent adventure! these really hearken back to a near completely bygone era of youtube
Yeah, I think my videos echo the old eras of TH-cam that I grew up on. We're going back.
YOO OVERGROOWWWTTHH! I always wanted to play that as a kid
That suggestion to consciously take a moment to breath and let my mind wander.. that made my day, thank you:)
3:40 I used to go to the dentist as a kid exclusively at a Sears in my hometown. My parents used to take us really early before the actual store and we’d have to travel through the automotive garage and a back access hallway to get to the appointment. It was creepy even before they went out of business.
That is so cursed.
The dentist area is probably supposed to be one of the barbershops that were common in Sears
Really? I didn't know they ever had barber shops.
I feel like this is a good introduction to "why you should play gmod" since gmod is basically anything unimaginable
and this game mode, i call "Urban exploring with weapons from arc9"
The little quips, rambles, etc add so much to these videos :)
I can't tell you why but this video was just class! The way you commentate and give your own insights as you walk around made me feel as though I was there with you exploring these maps in person ahah! Keep up the awesome vids man, love it!
Thank you for watching! Yeah, I like the 'virtual tour guide' bit a lot, and I often lean into it.
Not to get parasocial but I love the chill "hanging out with a friend" vibe you bring to these videos, I can't wait for more of these.
Pausing and sitting on the couch to just start rambling about coffee.
I love this video man.
that "take your time to think for a bit" speech was wonderful, grabbed my heart to subscribe you just for that
great humor too! twas a very nice video
Brutal moose mentioned! This video also feels super freeman's mind inspired in the random little rants and side tangents, I love it
Man, I haven't seen Overgrowth in a long, long time. I remember watching Jacksepticeye first play that game like 10 years ago. Thank you for reminding me of that.
18:32, thank you for that pause. It felt helpful in a way.
I love the Feel like im watching a "Joe Pera Talks with You". Keep the awesome Job!
I really love your commentary! A lot of your jokes got me, and your chat by the fireplace was very nice.
40 seconds in, but as a kid that was one of the most exhilarating amd terrifying things in gmod for me, downloading some random map and discovering there's a massive underground complex, i was usually too scared to fully explore the largest ones, so they truly felt endless.
Your commentary is soothing and funny at the same time, I struck gold!
Thank you! Hope you stick around.
found your channel through this video, and i love the vibes, your attitude, the comedy, the pacing, the mid-video coffee ramble… wonderful video. i will certainly be checking out more of your stuff!
I loved the details at 3:30 and 6:34 , amazing content man.
The freeman's mind train of thought dialogue to the incredible looking maps tour. Subbed
I do like some extra spooks like the feeling of being watched and random noises even there’s no one around, and some of these are great
My thinking-time is while watching calm videos like this. I can't just exist and think, I am not made for this. Always multitasking or my time feels wasted. I have to earn entertainment while being productive or useful.
And no, I'm not a Zoomer, no Social Media anywhere near me, except TH-cam.
I love your videos btw.
Absolutely incredible vibes on the video. You’re a natural and funny entertainer. Keep it up man you just got a subscriber
"Cabin Cavern Crystal Color Conflict". Sounds like the most riveting of novels.
This appeals to a lot to me in a way I can't explain. This is very likeable.
I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR THAT FIRST MAP FOR LITERAL YEARS. THANK GOD I FOUND THIS VIDEO AND THANK YOU FOR MAKING IT
Thank you for giving me advice on drinking coffee/soda and not staining my teeth. I wasn't expecting it but I'm glad I have a new perspective on drinking coffee and soda.
Enjoy brown/sugary drinks in moderation!
I’m only a few minutes but I can tell you care about making high quality videos. Just wanna let you affirm that this is awesome stuff. I’m sure you’re gonna hit a million soon
@joshuamandela3852 Thank you for watching. Idk about a million but I'm pretty excited for 10k :)
You should go caving! We are all entranced and scared by the unknown caverns below and it's so fun and relaxing ❤
Ngl irl caving scares tf outta me ever since I heard about nutty putty cave. I'm sure they aren't all like that if you take proper precautions, but it just cave me the ick.
I always get so excited when I get one of these videos in my notifications
This video is great, plus I love that theres Vintage Story music in the Outro, just magnificent
I love the little perspective changes
I'd do the whole video like that if I could. I'm glad you like it
god that "hey wait a sec" bit in the aquarium was SO good. great presentation of these and i loved your gentle commentary
what I find funny about Gmod and it's maps is how you could just use some of these maps as a sandbox. just goofing off with friends in one portion of a map or two. And that's barely scratching the surface. Sometimes me and my brother would come across hidden spaces from nocliping. an discover something new to explore. source maps are still my favorite type of game world building!
Thank you so much for ensuring no jump scares. It really means a lot.
I love gmod specifically because of the map making community. I adore maps like these!
