  • I know now that it's Che Guevara at 22:50. I got my Cuban revolutionaries mixed up.
I'm dubbing this narration style "soft boy" voice and there's nothing you can do about it. Been wanting to make a video like this for a long time. Finally just started it randomly one night and bam, two weeks later, it's done.
I hope it's a good watch. Let me know if this kind of thing interests you all. More reviews on their way.

Hey there! I'm the creator of Liminal Gallery and I absolutely loved this video. Kinda sad that you only saw Liminal Gallery 1 as it's the first map I've ever made so it's a bit generic and dated. You still made it really interesting with your commentary though so that's great! If you want to see something more up to date in quality, check out my 2 other maps: Liminal Gallery 2 and Melonade especially. I'd love to hear your comments on those. Great video overall, I really hope your channel grows big!

In my personal opinion, modern liminal spaces are defined by them appearing to be man-made but has illogical architecture, as if it's made by something that knows what a human is, but doesn't understand human architecture, or architecture at all.

I think a good way to think of it is like, if an alien didn’t understand the difference between natural structures and man made structures, but still tried to create a false representation of the world. So most of the false man made structures would look right, kind of, if a bit off, but you’d occasionally get utter nonsense where the architecture makes no sense because if architecture was naturally occurring that would just happen sometimes.

Great stuff. You deserve more than 1.5 thousand subscribers.
You're very personal and you keep me feeling like i'm sat in the room with you while you describe what you're playing in the game.
You hold a parasocial relationship well.
And as you said, you do your due dilligance. I asked " is this guy really going to measure if this little pool has a lifetime supply of water in it?" And seeing the gallon jugs being placed across every measurable angle of it just solidified "yep. He plays games the way i WANT to play games"
I don't think a video sells the idea of making your own liminal space the way this one does. You really highlight the personal nature of the creator in each map and you do a much better job than other "creepy youtube guys".
No offence to them but their format doesn't hit the vibe as hard as yours does even if they vibe so well with it. "The librarian" comes to mind. It's almost all live voiceover and unedited so it drags on with minuites of silence without any context which just sends me into the realisation that i want to download and play the map without the youtuber.
Unlike that, you make it a joy to welcome your inclusion between me and the map.
Make more of these, i haven't seen any of your other content but you're aware enough of the appeal to independantly made videos in general that anything you make will have enough consideration to be worth watching.
And feel free to do this stuff live i just might not watch it.

I dunno what kinda content you usually make but this was really good. You really manage to carry the video well and it's funny and entertaining but I also like how you talk about deeper stuff like the map creator's sub conscience while retaining this laid back personality. Usually these types of videos can get really corny when the guy walking through these maps pretends like he's gonna die in real life if he runs into a trigger_hurt and takes it all way too serious but this was the perfect blend. Can't wait for the next one.

I absolutely loved this video! This is the kind of thing I've been waiting a long time to see, and it was rejuvenating to watch. Strange and surreal maps like these simply enamor me, and I love to explore them myself as well.
Liminal Gallery was a map I absolutely adored when I explored it myself long ago, and you managed to make it interesting to revisit despite the map being the same as ever. The thought experiment you had with living in the map is exactly the kind of thing I find myself thinking about in hypothetical scenarios all the time, and you segued it perfectly into the bit at the end of the segment.
It's a wonderful thing to see someone share a similar passion for this sort of surreal user-made content and Gmod maps in particular, and your commentary remained both entertaining and thought-provoking throughout. It's also nice to see someone else appreciate the medium as a genuine art.
As for my last thoughts, I just wanted to mention that the map you showcased that you'd made when you were 12 was fascinating to me, and I loved seeing the somewhat crude construction of it with its blocky walls and open ceiling. It almost reminds me in a way of the beauty certain older games have where their limitations become mesmerizing parts of their artstyle much later on, though I suppose Gmod is getting to the point where it could probably claim that title itself.
Great video! Thanks for making it, and I'll absolutely watch more if you do choose to make them.

I can't speak for everyone, but the algorithm dropped me in here and I gotta say, I would absolutely watch an entire series exploring and deconstructing these sorts of maps. It's always cool to take a look into someone's thoughts or feelings by looking at what they create.
The little segment of survival in such an open, yet secluded place, makes for a wonderful thought experiment, and can help function as a mindfulness exercise; getting the brain to focus on things it usually takes for granted. Overall, wonderful video with wonderful vibes. I look forward to seeing what you do from here!

Stumbled across this video cause the algorithm blessed me with it. Really think this is a neat video and kinda just wish there were more vids like this one! Surreal/Liminal maps, while a dime a dozen on the workshop, have pretty neat vibe & layout that tends to be vast. Iirc, the Liminal Gallery did get a 2nd map. It's good but, the jumpscares really what kinda killed the "unsettling" vibe the previous one had.
    Btw, I remember hexbugs :).

The factory with the cloud reminds me of a combined quarry and rock crushing plant that I'd pass on the way too and from elementary school. When it was running it would be completely encased in a cloud of dust.

Just wanted to let you know that I loved the water math segment, the thought experiment of living there was a great addition, it’s exactly the kind of thing I’d think about playing a map like this.

I'd love to see more of these. As a kid I played a lot of gmod. There was a point though when we had our internet shut off for a year or so (lived in the country so it wasn't all that necessary) and I had downloaded a buuuuunch of mods prior so I'd have something to play with. Rolling through empty Gmod maps sorta became a hang out spot for me. Also learned a lot of Gmod ins and outs during that time too.

I absolutely love this video, you have a great voice for it, really soothing, and yet you remain funny and interesting the whole time! The part where you imagined what it'd be like to live in a liminal space was super fun and is now something I'm gonna be doing, I guarantee. Makes me wanna hop on Gmod again for the first time in years and explore.

Frankly, I'm all about odd videos like this. There's always just some maps that maintain this aura of a secreted away space that feels reminiscent of old dead games and servers that you just don't know if anyone's actually seen it in years or not. There's also an equally secretive audience who are all for seeking that vibe. Sometimes, it's not even the intentionally odd maps that nail this vibe. I remember this one underground town filled with neon lights, and tight spaces everywhere. By all means, it was a normal map, but you had to take a slow tram to get to the main part of the town, which was basically the only open part of it.
