Hi Everyone and Welcome Back to My Bucolic Life Channel. Meet my new sewing project.
This seemingly simple V-Neck dress can throw a couple curve balls. What I dealt with was a slight full bust adjustment to the front bodice piece and then adding a modesty panel for a "too low for comfort" neckline. Also, I expanded the bicep area of the sleeve to accommodate sausage arms :) Hope you like it!

That was a great sleeve demo, thank you. Tight sleeves are my nemesis!
Very pretty great job i like yhe modest piece
I absolutely love your teaching style! I learned SEW much! Beautiful dress!💙
Love the dress and I've learned so much about sewing watching your videos thank you so much
Love your farm and way of life, so cozy and surrounded by wonderful animals. Yes, very cute comfy dress.
Modesty panel yeah 🎉
Love the material, love the dress. Another great video
I really enjoy your videos. Thank you for all the information and tips
Very good instructions for every step of the way! It looks adorable on you!
Super pretty dress! Great idea putting in the modesty panel!
What an awesome God we serve.
Super cute with boots it will look great❤
One of the things I like about you is you show that even if you missed something it can be fixed. No stressing whatsoever. The little panel worked perfectly. It sure looks very comfy.
Thank you! I always miss something ☺️
That dress looks so comfy. The fabric looks really nice for the dress too.
Good choice putting the little modesty panel in. Combined with the ribbon, it creates a pretty feature.
Thank you for the sewalong. I plan on sewing this dress 👗😊 it's very nice.
I had that book in the 1980's!!!
I absolutely love watching your videos. I’ve learned so much from you. You have such an eye for detail in everything you make. Be very careful with those heat erasable pens. You were marking on the right side of the lace. Those pens erase with heat but the ink comes back with cold. If you wear an item you’ve marked on the right side on a cold day outside the ink will reappear. Take a scrap piece of fabric and mark it with the pen. Erase the mark with the iron and then put it in your freezer for a moment and you’ll see it reappear. I learned this the hard way. ❤
Thanks! And I have heard that about the pens but never experienced it. But I also wash all of my garments in hot water. Maybe that helps.
Looks so great on you, do like that panel you added.
Now I understand more why guys like to watch sports :)
Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
I very much liked your tutorial. I am not working on this pattern but all your tips are so helpful. I like the bust adjustment and the slash and spread techniques. Great job!
Great explanation of your process. Thanks you
Love the fabric. I've never sewn with linen but it looks softer than I imagined linen would be. The fit is very relaxed and comfy looking. As always, it came out great.
Love the fabric and the dress turned out beautiful. 😊
I learned to sew on a treadle ❤
Thank you! Great tutorial!
❤❤❤love the dress and the tip from your book about ðrawing a dress onto your own body. Thanks for sharing
Love it Marie, it's my kind of dress. I did think I should of waited before speaking to you today because you covered my question but I enjoyed our conversation ❤❤❤
SO CUTE! I love it! ❤️❤️❤️
I would have done the modesty panel too.
Beautiful dress! I had to laugh at your little bug! Last week I was evicted from sewing room by a fat wasp 🐝 my husband said get back in there and show it what you’re made of 😂
Oh my gosh, that's so sounds like something my husband would say 🤣🤣
What a beautiful dress, Marie! I love the modesty panel and the widening of the sleeve but the star of the show is that lovely linen❤❤❤. The color is so happy and the fabric flows so freely😊. Truly enjoyed watching this sew-along, thanks for sharing👗🪡🧵😊
Pretty fabric. Never used linen. Cool that you found some lace in your stash. Great idea to secure the ribbon. Love how you’re switching around through your collection of machines. Both fun & practical. Helpful tip from the fitting book for those who can sketch a decent drawing 😉🥴 Thanks for doing a detailed demonstration, for sharing your experience and your lovely project.🎉
That looks so comfy and you can get something under for the colder days. Some time I don't know if I watch you for the sewing or just the outdoor pieces. Love it X
Very cute dress. I think the modesty panel works well. Thanks for the sew-along tutorial.
My goodness, that looks SO comfortable! Great Job! Also, thank you for the fitting tips!
Very beautiful job on your dress! You always do an amazing job, I love watching you sew.
But just a tip, the next time you burn yourself (if you’re not bad enough and going to ER) just run your hand, fingers or arm under cold water and put a piece of ice on the burn area to stop the burning from going further through your skin. I did that too the other day when I burned myself and if you do it soon enough after you burn yourself it may leave no scarring.
You know, I usually try to be more attentive to myself, but I was pulling multiple things out of the oven for a dinner with a lot of company. I think the adrenaline of getting it all out at the same time over ruled my sense of pain, and I really didn't notice that the burn was that bad until I sat down to eat. Oh well it. It is healing though so I've got that going for me 🤣😁
I like it💕
Just cut out Mccalls 7742 but this one was next on my list, so thank you for posting about it. I've been a bit worried about the neckline.
Thankyou for another great video. I love how you dive in to a pattern and make it your own. "They say to do this: well I'm not going to do that". I am not doing a lot of garment sewing right now, (focused more on making handbags) but watching and listening to your shows are inspiring. You have so much knowledge to share. BTW, love the machine restoration videos too.. You got to love getting a little grease under the fingernails lol !
So... much.... grease 🤣 thank you!
I love this dress on you, looks very comfy too... I love your theme song, so sweet!🥰🥰
I was just sewing a nightgown while listening to you. The way the pattern instructions are written just didn’t seem the best and easiest attaching the front and back bands. After watching your videos I feel like I can think outside the box now. What would Marie do? Is what I ask myself. Thank you!
Sometimes I'm not even sure what Marie would do 🤣 just work things in a way that make sense to you and make you happy 😁
That length (mid calf) is often called “midi length” currently.
I am making a very similar dress right now so I’m excited to see you work on this one (just started the video!)
I was going to (try and) do a FBA on this. That would widen the cup room an inch and also lengthen it an inch. What you did created width but not extra length. I can get the effect with empire line that the bodice ends not below my bust but actually on it. I wondered if you felt when it was made up that you could do with extra bodice length at all? Because... happy not to do a FBA if avoidable.
I actually don't have a problem with the bodice length. I think because there are no darts in it, the bodice is just a flat panel, so there's really no fit there. But if for your body shape you really would feel more comfortable lengthening it a little bit you can and I think that the dress would still look great. I just didn't need to for my shape. Good luck!
How and where do you get all the old machines that you have, they are awesome.
Hi! Take a look at my sewing machine channel youtube.com/@prometheansewingmachines?si=F4hCIOVMkAND-yH3
