I made a Bootstrap form which never did mirror my body. You have given me some good ideas on how to adjust it to fit me. I do enjoy your channel. thank you for all your efforts to help out the sewing community.
This was really helpful - I have been wanting to make a dress form that is actually my size and shape and now I can! This is my next project - supplies ordered and on the way 🙂
Well that’s a whole lot simpler than the Bootstrap version!!! Thankyou many times over. The mattress topper is a brilliant idea, it would just expand into the fabric casing.
That is very clever. I would not have thought of that. Have you seen the Butterwick pattern 6092? It is a shell dress. It is made for fitting garments and more like a sloper. It is snug. You can make it open in eitber the front or back. There are some options. Your system works good too. I'm just recommending another option.
Thank you so much for this. I had an expensive adjustable dress form, which was never the right size, and it fell apart when I moved to a new apartment. So I bought a cheaper polystyrene one, from Amazon, which I intend to pad out and cover. You have given me so many ideas to make the job easier. The adjustable dress forms are rubbish and you can't pin into them. Yours is much better. 😊👏👏👏
Love your idea of making a dress form. Other ways have looked way too technical and for that reason I've never tried to make one. I'm wondering if you could "quilt as u go" (as I have absolutely no help)?
That was ingenious! I never thought of using a dress pattern. I do have a commercial dress form, but its a terrible fit. I’m going to try your process. That is possibly the ugliest dress i’ve ever seen! I don’t think my old granny would have worn that. It was an unflattering princess seam mumu. Your repurposing of it was an infinite improvement. 😂
I’ve wanted to try a Bootstrap dress form, but I think I will wait to see you finish this project before I make a final decision on which route to take
Clever idea & helpful video. Probably not something I will attempt, not being much of a garment sewing person, but if I ever need to do it, I’ll rely on your method.😉
This is the second video of yours that I have watched. I’ve watched a number of videos on dress form making and yours is the simplest I have seen. And the one that makes the most sense!! I’m planning on making mine and was thinking perhaps I will put my bra on the dress form first and stuff it to the correct size then pad around it. Do you think that will work? Thanks for making this video it really has inspired me. Happy New Year!!!
That sound straight forward enough to give it a try! Would love to see how you mounted them and what you used for a base? At the moment, I am bent on working through my stash and there are some heavy duty fabrics I could use for a dress form.
just wondering Marie, how did you choose what size pattern to buy, considering it will be such a close fit for the dress form? Ah I see at 6:45 mins you address this :)
I am using just random forms. I believe one I got at a second hand store, and the other I got at a yard sale. The fun part about this is that you don't need to find a form that is even remotely close to your actual size. I think that one of the ones that I used here was a very small store display type form, and the other was an ancient dress form that was very small. I would just look around, Facebook marketplace, yard sales, things like that. Or you can purchase a dress form that is smaller than your size so that you have room to pad it up.
Oh dear, another Friday with more fun. Now I’m going to be looking for a mannequin. Where I’m I going to put all these projects? Maybe she will fit under my bed. 😂
Great video and LOL and I thought I was the only one who called them chesticles!

My bootstrap came out round and my shoulders were super sloped. I thought it was just me. :)
I still have my bootstrap pattern tucked away. I already printed it and typed it all together. I put it in a big envelope and forgot about it.
You have great knowledge Marie and you're so sew inspirational. Thank you for your generosity in sharing. ❤
You’ve inspired me to make one for myself. This was very informative. Thank you ❤

Hi! I use whatever form I can find, from basic garment display, funky adjustable, mannequin... whatever you can find that stands up on its own!
@@mybucoliclife thank you! Love your channel and how practical you are :)
Nice, inspiringvideo. Question: where did you get the aqua blue scissor paper weight?
I got them in 1984 at house of fabrics 🤣 good luck!!

What dress form do you use? Where did you purchase it? TIA
When would you do the length adjustments if any are needed?
Probably before you put the zipper on. It's ok if the zipper dangle a bit below the form, but on wawak you can get just about any length
Where did you get the form/stand you put the shell on?
I was wondering the something.

I've been very interested watching you fitting, stuffing and assembling. Pity
Maybe look at my original video I linked to for more info there 😊
Becuase of the way the audio is showing up on, it's hard to see/understand what you are doing!
