    Hi Everyone and Welcome Back To My Bucolic Life Channel. Meet my new sewing tutorial.
    This time I am sewing a super comfortable dress. The unusual part about this pattern is the sleeves, which are huge. They are also the waistband... it's hard to explain, I need to show you. If you plan on making this, there are a couple areas that would be a good idea to pay attention to before you cut out your fabric to make this dress work out well.
    I hope you like it!
    ~Marie

    To this day I still wear slips and surprisingly Wal-Mart still sales them 😂🤣😂Wearing slips were for modesty and on some garments whether you can see through them or not they make them drape better. I’m finding now I enjoy lining my garments to give them a better finish. Happy Sewing!

    Okay!!! I didn’t think I was going to like it when it was on the mannequin but when I saw it on you at the end…yes!!! I would totally make this dress. I love the way the sleeves give you room to move. Very deceiving while piecing together. It looks beautiful on you. I really like the fabric you chose. I think the busy pattern works with this style of dress. Thank you for sharing. As always I learned some new tips on this one. I am in the process of making my 13 year old daughter the marvelous Mrs. Maisel dress and the clipping you had shown where the sleeve is basically part of the waist helped tremendously while trying to puzzle piece maisel dress. Amazing!

    If the big 4 can create an App with PDF patterns they will gain a wider customer base and save on printing costs. I'm from Cape Town. To order patterns from the big 4 will take 3-4 months to get delivered. I only sew from PDF patterns. I know Simply delightful does PDF pattens. But Vouge patterns are not PDF. But an App would be an awesome.

    Thanks for sharing your project. 🎊 That lovely fabric looks very springlike. I know just what you mean about the slip issue.🥴 If we were just standing still all the time, perhaps it might not be a concern, but with motion comes the problem.🤭 Good call on the lining. (I loved the yellow gingham on the packaging, too.) This dress looks like it would be equally comfortable on the farm, at a craft fair, a luncheon, or even church-especially if you’re working in the nursery or in the kitchen getting things ready for a community gathering. Wondering about using a more fall/winter weight fabric like flannel or even a knit of some type?

  • @marathorne6821
    @marathorne6821 ปีที่แล้ว

    The fabric is adorable, it is giving me William Morris vibes 😍 I am a tad surprised, given that the "bodice" is cut twice, they didn't find a way to enclose the seam where the sleeves are attached so it would be neater inside... but maybe that would have complicated the "waist" seam even more? Personally I am not keen on how the sleeves are attached to the waist. However, the end result looks really cute.

    I just found your channel. You are a fabulous teacher and clearly a very talented seamstress. I would have never figured out those tricky bits. I have only been sewing a few years and almost exclusively use indie patterns because the directions are so much clearer. That’s not to say I don’t still find myself puzzled on occasion. Do you only use Big 4 patterns?

    • @mybucoliclife
      @mybucoliclife  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! Thank you, and yes I usually use the big four patterns or at least the ones that you can commonly purchase at Joann's so that includes new look and sometimes a random burda.

    Very nice, Marie. Adding the lining is a great idea as it gave the skirt more depth and it appears to balance those voluminous sleeves. I like this dress and I may give it a go. The fabric is nice and I love the neckline. Thanks for sharing 😊❤. Oversized sleeves are having a field day right now😂

    Cute fabric! The easing at the seam with hand stitiches is a good tip. Thanks! The sleeves pulling up the dress when you raise your arms is not something I could tolerate wearing. There's a Seamwork blouse pattern called the "Aims" that has similar gathers around a central placket and big gathered sleeves, but in the Seamwork webpage pattern photos they pointedly have a shot of a model raising her arms comfortably way over her head with no pulling at the waist. Might be an interesting pattern to try! I'd love to see you make some patterns from an indie pattern company.

    • @mybucoliclife
      @mybucoliclife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One of the options on this pattern is to make the sleeves without the band, and I considered that because it would give a lot more freedom of movement, but I was concerned that when I raised my arm you'd be able to see all the way to my bust. I've actually worn it several times now and it's okay it doesn't bother me 🤣🤣

    I worked Retail. One day a young associate came to me very distressed and asked me what a "slip" was. I told her it's a piece of lingerie that goes under a skirt or dress. She had no clue. I helped her and the customer find one. The associate asked me what it's for???? I explained and she too asked, "So they see our legs so what?"

    Of all the years & gathers I've been sewing, I've never heard the tip of putting a heavier thread in the bobbin. 🧵 😮 Makes so much sense! Would have saved me hours of frustration from thread breakage...or just avoiding patterns with lots of gathering.
