- In the previous guarding style sns video I got in the comments a lots of questions about if this is strong enough to deal against the much stronger 8* monsters and here is the answer where I can deal with monsters like Pukei Jagras or Girros using a 7 5/5 weapon. With this build then you can start farming rare 6 materials that will be used for upgrading to rare 8 9 and 10 weapons.
I also advice if is possible to invest in elemental skils at this point.

Seems like a nice comfy way of taking down 8 stars.
You probably know this as well, but the SnS backhop counts as an evade so if you get a perfect evade with the backhop it instantly gives you full charge for the leaping slash
Yes, what I do with the strong moves with a good tell is to go into guard and then try to evade at the last moment.
If I miss i still guard the attack, if I do it right, I get the powered up charged slash.
Now I really can't wait for gunlance and charge blade to be in the game. Counter Builds are going to be awesome.
Especially with Offensive Guard.
People just don't understand why small knockback on block is massive dps increase for SnS. Think of it like LbG recoil down/reload speed, GS/Bow focus, and it will make sense. Guard skill particularly change Great Girros match up from annoying to simple for SnS, and massively improve SnS dps uptime.
I also work on barroth arms / waist, in prepare that Niantic release other monster that also give guard skill to eventually reach guard Lv5 (Ice Barroth, Uragaan, Steel Uragaan).

I love this build. I'm hunting Barroth 6 & 7 for the rarity 5 material but it hasn't come out yet. It is the last piece I am missing, I hope to be able to complete it soon, at the moment I am using a crossbow, I make the monsters very easy but I find this assembly too fun. I look forward to future videos when the block can be raised to level 4 or 5 🤩
after my block i don't get your skillcombos... strange. I only attack then leap as if i was using katana and then press down like a meteorstrike. Is there any way i can change my block combo to yours?
You need big enough guard skill for it. You can do the spin slash if you get the small pushback.
Guard 3 is significantly better for getting small knockback than 1 or 2.
can you please list the set?? I am assuming it's Kulu/Rathalos/Barroth/Barroth/Kulu but wasnt sure if I am correct

Great build, I love the effort you put into your videos. And how about using Diablos greaves instead of kulu greaves, if we are optimizing stun mechanic anyway?
Not a bad idea. I just don't use diablos pieces because I sucks against diablos because I don't have a fully upgraded ice weapon.
@@caoslayer Yeah haha, he can be a pain. I just use my Girros sns against Diablos. Makes everything go so smoothly but I assume you don't have a Girros weapon upgraded. Maybe Diablos greaves can work we'll see.

im very fond to sns-guarding. i was doing the same idea with you but i need ur opinion on these armor. chest G.Jagrs (rising tide lv2), leg Pink Rath (Sp. Boost Lv2) or leg Rathalos (wex lv1 for crit)
If only sword and shield have the option to evade or block during midair, because you are like a sitting duck during counter aerial attack. Unfairly risky.
Wait, i thought after guarding sns do the aerial combo?
Only if you get knocked back! Guard skill refuses to be knocked back 😝

@@oliverleon5343 definitely worth the try! But don’t invest to much in it. At 8*-10* Monster level you can’t „waste“ investing in defence skills or items. The 75 sec timer is unmerciful 🤣 you will need any atk power you can get.
you can also manually evade back while blocking to initiate the aerial combo
I wonder if you could mix a slightly low guard level with black diablos parts for resentment to take a small amount of damage and get a decent attack boost. I am looking forward to seeing how lance wnd particularly gunlance will work in this game.
Nice build! But did you do this battle on a PC or a phone? I am always getting those stupid message on the top when trying to fight (the connection mesages).

How I do the spin after block? I always jump after block when I press the attack screen
You need enough guard to get a small knock back.
Not every attack gets the small one at guard 3 but every monster has attacks that you can guard this way.
How do you do the spin attack after a guard?
Just tap after guarding.
Hi, is it possible for other 7 or 8 star monster like diablo?
With a leveled up ice weapon, yes.
But diablos have lots of attacks that will still cause the large knockback.

How do you spin combo after block? I do the leaping combo.
You need more guard lvs, otherwise when guarding it will push you back making the next attack a leaping one instead the short combo block shown here.
How come after i block an attack, i do this combo which sends me high in the air? When i land, i get killed by an attack
You need guard to reduce the knockback of attacks.
With guard 3 you get reduced knockback against lots of attacks.

Can this build stand against the wyverns? (Legiana, rathian, diablos, rathalos)
Works the best against rathian where you only have to watch out for the tail whip.
Against the others is less useful since doesn't works for half their attacks but I still did beat 7* using the guard set.
Thanks for the showcase, can you also provide Ratholas and Diablos showcase, those two are the harder monsters for melee
8s once I get to upgrade my weapons, right now the game basically tells me to fuck off since it wants me 500 more attack to even try.

Did Sns guard build still good vs Tobikadhaci ?
I don't guard much against tobi because every attack makes tobi go too far for the counter combo to land.
The guard is nice to help avoiding damage but in 8* your focus is to deal it.
Bro wtf do you MEAN there are 8star monsters, I've been playing this game like an addict for 2 weeks and only see 5 stars 🤣
The game has like an endless loop of beating the story and everytime you do a new star unlocks. There are nine star monsters and maybe 10 stars (never saw anybody at this point yet)
@@caoslayer I definitely flew through the early game loop but got stuck on legiana for a week due to getting screwed with poor anjanath rng.
This is the armor set that's been great for me currently entering 5*
Armor:
Barroth head (for the defense boost and offense guard)
Great Jagras body (for the rising tide)
Rathian arms (mainly for the burst, lock on is just a bonus for me)
Paolumu waist (divine blessing obviously)
Kulu-ya-ku legs (and critical eye)
Weapons:
Great Girros (for the paralysis) or legiana (for the second divine blessing) Sw&Sh
I'm mostly focus on high damage output but I'm looking into black diablos resentment ability since I'm already experienced with it in MHR)
Can Guard 3 block all attacks from all monsters? Hehe

Do you know how Offensive Guard on Barroth helm works?
Problem is that it would require to remove the kulu plume and this needs lock on to always face the monster.

You are saying the helmbreaker combo, right?
I got the problem is that lefts you without able to evade for too long.
Can be used against some monsters but is risky otherwise.

im using guard with large monster too when they roar
Indeed it works great for almost all monsters but rathalos, diablos and legiana.
Against those I guard and then use the backjump attack at the last moment.
If it goes well, I get a perfect evade and a full charge worth of damage. If fails I still get the charging attack.

Funny that you cant kill anything above pukei with that, especially everything that is flying. Why not invest materials and zenny in elemental wepons and build for lategame?
I don't understand your point. You MUST invest in elemental weapons regardless your build. I'm using a water sns here.
It is the biggest roadblock of progression... and this build works too with elemental builds. For example use kulu helm, jyura chest and jagras legs.
Have you tried guard 3 with offensive guard?
i have guard lvl 4 and still get dmg. why you dont get any?

What kind of chip damage do you take from rathian and rathalos? Or any of the later monsters
0 with the small pushback. You can small guard everything from rathian but the flash kick tail and the big fireball.
From rathalos you only can small guard the tail whip, the bite and fireball if you are close.
Chip damage is relative to your defense since is a % of the damage you would take otherwise so it depends of your armor and the stars of the monster.
Love the video back when about fast access to shield combo. I just dont haev much zenny back then so prioritize dmg is what i do. Now with bunch of barroth materials i dont know what to do I can craft this and do what like video haha. Thanks.
Just question, I know you tell on video about what can be block and what now (and there is also your reply in comment) but will you do list here(or make video) of a attack that you can and cant block for each monster?
Also it kinda silly question but do total defense matter at more high star level? like even if you guard will it, will the attack chip away some health?
About the last question, when you do the small pushback you don't take any damage at all regardless how strong were the attack. Look at the video how I guard the whole thing while having 50 points less than the recommended minimum.
I will do the guard compilation eventually, I want to research about offensive guard first.

Dayum was looking for this build again. The game will inevitably push us towards more damage and high risk plays with the timer, but I'm glad builds like these exist. A fun and comfortable way to play the game and some fashion hunter points as well 👍
