Well, since you can not officially change anything to actually level te plate, this feauture is nothing more than a zeroing-check at the moment. I wonder if it is a sign that they're working on a different buildplate version. But since the recent footage of the new upcoming saturn 4 ultra 16k with heated vat, i saw it still has the samen buildplate. So, this feature seems to be useless at the moment.
Could be that they might be working on something with the upcoming S4U 16K or maybe they wanted to add this in so when contacting them you could show them the graph. Not sure what the intention is.
8:27 this graph displays pressure on bed lever it cannot tell whether or not pressure is 'even' on the screen, those plateau means that printer stopped to move build plate downwards, e.g. increasing pressure, whole this procedure is pretty much a placebo for s4u because it's impossible to level build plate perfectly without disassembling it, so default configuration is assuming that build plate is skewed and triggers zero when it detects pressure kind-of equal to all four springs compressed
Thanks for that update! I did only asume because I couldn't find any documentation from Elegoo on this.
you can level by adjusting the spring tension via the adjusters on the top of the build plate
Thanks you a lot for your video. I will try it now! ♥
Thanks for watching!
Ok great but... What to do after that ? I have this printer since a month and zll my prints fail on the back of my build plate. Does it mean it's not leveled ? After tou see one of the papers is lose, what is to do ? Unscrew a bit the springs on the top of the bed block ?
Hey! I believe I answered your question but i can put it in both places just in case you don't see the other. Yes so you would want to unscrew the areas that have little grip on the paper untill it's nice and tight. You can also try and tighten the springs on the opposite area to try and level the bed out a bit. But most definitely you should unscrew the ones causing issues.
@ThatDudes3DPrints thanks a lot for your answer. I did try to level the build playe that way. But is it normal that there is such a short range of rotation on the S4U ? I mean on my build plate, you can make about three quarter of a rotation between full tightened screw and totally lose, as if the spring wasn't here at all. I guess it's because the leveling is a matter of a tenth of a millimeter, but still.
Today i ran a print, after manually leveling the build plate SIX TIMES, changing paper sheets when they were too worn out after pulling on it, and even used electronic calipers ton check the length between the top and bottom of the build plate. The values were 54.17mm, 54.18mm, 54.19mm and 54.17mm. and still, half of my print failed, the same way as always.
Front of my plate is too high. How do I go about adjusting the screws to level it out? A thin washer on the back?
I would honestly suggest reaching out to Elegoo. When I had this issue they sent me a bit of Gcode that adjusted the pressure sesativity. For me it was on the backend.
So this thing doesn't have pressure sensors in the LCD. The only pressure sensor is in the build arm at the top.
So the printer has no way to know if it's level or not.
But that's not really the main issue here. The main issue here is that the build plate can't lock in so even if pressure was applied evenly the second that pressure is released. The Springs are going to spring back to their resting position AKA out of level and this is why there are so many issues with this printer.
The next issue is that the bill plate is free floating and it's free to shift on XY and Z. It is not locked into place.
Is a very interesting design that I'm not sure how it got past the drawing board as even a basic engineer would look at this and think nothing about this design could be considered leveling or even appropriate for the type of accuracy that we're aiming for in msla printing.
Thank you for this! The more I know the better my videos can be! Also big fan!
@ThatDudes3DPrints Thanks! This is an interesting topic and a bit difficult to navigate. It's such a popular printer due to the tilting vat. I just wish it didn't also have the leveling stuff. It would have been my favorite printer of the year.
So what are we saying here? It's impossible to level this machine?
@@TechSavvy-f4n Well technically yes but also no. You can always modify it
do you have a screen protector on yours? is there a con to having one?
I haven't added one. Not that I am aware of no reason to believe it would affect anything tho.
Hey mine shows adjusting screws on top but they are not designed to adjust its just loose or tight any ideas?
Yes so I will be realising a video on how I F-ed up lol yes so if the paper is loose you want to loosen the screws.
well, the issue is maybe not the build plate, but that moving bottom part. Maybe it is off on some sides. And if it is off, how do you adjust it?
Yes it could be as well but I think this might be more obvious when the vat isn't in the printer. But it is a new design that Elegoo hasn't done before so could just be that they need to work this out by next gen or the one after that unfortunately
With this manual leveling feature I wonder if we can add a magnetic build plate now?
Yes should be able to with out the additional Gcode that was needed.Good call!
1 of my corners is always loose. It causes many problems. I cant figure out how to fix it. Every single time I print it has fails.
Hey! I would reach out to Elegoo if you haven't already might be a defective buildplate! Specially if unscrewing the screw at the top of that corner does not help.
@@ThatDudes3DPrints Yes! I already did, I'm awaiting reply :) Thanks for your response and help in your videos. Like + Sub.
I knew about you in forums.
I just bought the S4U. I see you print miniatures, and I wanted to ask what resin you use and if you post your settings for that resin?
For miniatures I use Anicubic ABS like resin. I have them over on Patreon if your interested! Should have a link in all my videos.
I've been having a really rough time with the Mars 5 ultra and Saturn Ultra. Both seem to constantly fail in the front left area regardless of settings
Hey so I had this issue a while back but for me it was the back right area. I had to contact Elegoo and they sent me a Gcode file to adjust for that.
Man, was hoping it would allow me to adjust for a magnetic flexplate, but apparently it just doesn't like those in general. Maybe on another update
From what I have seen most flex plate manufacturers will also have a G-code file you can put on the thumb drive and "print" it on your machine and it will then compensate for the new flex plate and magnet. The machine does not have that function built-in unfortunately.
Don't you use the Allen wrenches and adjust the bolts on the build plate to adjust tension
Yes you do need to. I have a video up appologising because I didn't pay attention and the instructions on do say to loosen the screws
So it does nothing but to allow you to manually run the auto self leveling part that it does before a print.
it does do more. I have another video that talks about how I messed up on this one lol
"Auto Leveling" is a fake marketing term it actually adjusts the Z which is not the same as Bed leveling. You should always want the option to manually level.
Hey! Yes using the term Auto Leveling is a bit of an overstatement should me called auto Z zeroing that's what it actually does. Yes I also agree manual leveling should also be a must!
Great video 😊
On my machine it actually says to adjust the four screws to if your buildplate is uneven when testing the tension of the paper pieces.
Unfortunately there is almost no improvement. I‘m in contact with elegoo about that.
Really? It does? I did manually do the crews on mine just to make sure I wasn't missing anything but no change so same as you lol
@@ThatDudes3DPrints I just manually adjusted myself, (hadn't even printed yet) and it does infact say, to adjust the screws on top :)
@ going to have to give mine another shot then 😂
Me to because screw it's either loose or tight and I do not want to leave a loose screw
I’m assuming you make the adjustments yourself by the screws on top. This seems to be just a way to let you know it’s not level, not to correct it. Then you manually make the adjustments, it checks the level each time you turn it on during auto calibration.
I would also assume this but it's not made clear at least on my S4U to do that step.
Haven't gotten this firmware update it seems, but I hope I do soon!
Might already be installed check your settings!!
Well I can’t get that time back.
None of us can 😔 lol
Looks scary when the buildplate is pushing against the screen ^^ always makes me nervous :D
Yeah you think it's not going to stop lol feel you on this one.
I have Saturn S2 8k, and leveling on that thing is a breeze. Looking at those 8 screws which need to be adjusted..eh..I dont like that design.
Seems like a good idea but they still need to work out the kinks. Hopefully will be a better design by next gen lol
literally doing this RIGHT now lol
Great minds think alike! Thanks for watching!!
@ThatDudes3DPrints still hasn't fixed my issues with my s4u. Getting really disappointed with it. Printed great for 2 days then just stopped.
Just did this yesterday, I too thought it was weird that I wasn’t able to adjust pressure on each corner.
I have many problems with Saturn 4. It has one corner tighter than others. Got to manual level every time I print. Not recommend this machine
That's unfortunate. I really love the machine but there are some other amazing options from other companies if you want to try those instead! I know I want to lol
i returned my 4.
regret selling my 28k.
ganna buy a 3 to replace
