The purpose of this paper will be to present research-based practices from the fields of Business Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Practices, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to assist music teachers struggling with burnout in their classrooms. Music teachers struggling with exhaustion, overwork, and stress will be invited to rediscover their motivation for their jobs by examining why they choose to teach music, and what continues to bring them joy in their classrooms. They will be encouraged to identify their values for music teaching and their personal strengths and weaknesses. Music teachers will be taught strategies to define appropriate boundaries with their superiors, their students, and other members of their work community. This paper will also encourage music teachers to challenge statements of negative self-efficacy and learn to build resilience in the face of negative events. Finally readers will learn strategies to reduce stress, assist with relaxation, balance their work and home lives, and increase engagement and enjoyment of daily activities.
