Just wanted to put this out there... I am OFFICIALLY A LICENSED NAIL TECH!! I passed my state board tests today and I am so proud of myself ❤️❤️ I definitely could not have done it without y’all!! So thank you!
hey I know this was a year ago but I just wanted to say congratulations! I just started nail tech school and I’m so excited to be getting into a new profession 😁
I am an Advance Mobile Nail Tech and Esthetician all of 36 years. I specialize in advance pedicures and oncology skincare. I have very easy set up and breakdown. I have boundaries as I control the situation of how I work in someone's home. I cater to seniors, special needs, mobility impairment and other. I am also a licensed cosmetologist so I have hair services available for certain clients. One of my ways of giving back is I do complimentary services for Hospice clients as well as afterlife beauty and grooming care. This has been a very heartfelt journey and a great path for me.
When doing Mobil . I ask ahead on the style and service . you ask about the environment and water access for that's a requirement . you have to ask about children and pets to not be present. You got to be very organised . you have to get a deposit as well ahead , I charge setup , laundry and gas . I ask for pictures of environment before I turn up. Also booking is 2 weeks ahead .
I went mobile, with only a few favorites customers. I have done, bed-ridden customers with some problems, but it's my heart to help those who are bed-ridden. ALL my people are very helpful and accommodating. I created color wheels for gel and regular polish and a few simple nail art examples. Each gets a picture texted to them, if they want a color change, they can give me the number of the color, and I will bring it with me. Sometimes I have my full collection with me, but leave in the car. (unless it's too hot) For nail art, I have them choose the design they want, then I can bring what I need for that design. I normally gave some small items with. Like, Swarovski Crystals in clear two sizes, I bring three spider gel colors, some foils, and a few other nail art for a simple look . Most of my customers like a simple look anyway. I have a travel tote and a rolling basket for my supplies. I use a small headlamp for better focused lighting. I bring my own table, extension cord, and enough tools to do work on two customers without having to disinfect,
I had a thriving mobile nail business for 17 yrs on Long Island. I rarely had a problem with distractions or wasteful time consuming issues because my clients returned the respect I had for them. It was a wonderful time in my life and I would love to be a resource to any of you considering it!
I’m currently a student & half way done. I’m conflicted on either working in a salon for a little bit, getting my own suite or I’ve been considering doing mobile nails. Just scared of if they would have a messy/dirty home environmental. 😅🥴 Later down the road I been entertaining the idea of owning my own Mobile bus to do nails out of. Idk 🤷🏾♀️ my brain feels like it’s playing ping pong 🏓 when it comes to what I should do 😅
I am a beginner and I’m really starting to consider Mobile bc I do not have a place. I’m really trying to avoid going to a discount salon bc I’ve worked at 2 and both were very similar in their practices like not being clean, not disinfecting and reuse of implements. I’m getting super discouraged at this point!
I did mobile service for a few weeks after being in the pandemic. My travel fee was based on mileage. When I schedule the services I knew how much time it would take me to get to the next person. Which also helped me schedule the next time slot. If there were 2 ppl at one stop they BOTH had to pay the travel fee because they consumed my time. What also helped me was that they had to tell me exactly what they wanted 24hrs prior to appt. I did take multiple color sections though. For example if they wanted yellow I would take from neon yellow down to pale yellow. My cart was only tailored to the appts scheduled. My cart also contained EVERYTHING down to barbicide, lysol and even my own hand soap. When I walked into someone's home I sprayed lysol, washed my hands and let them see my wipe everything down. It was pretty cool while it lasted however you do get burnt out quick because of all the moving around. Packing and unpacking of equipment and supplies. As far as a down side. It puts wear and tear plus milage on your vehicle. And don't mention GAS 😫. Everyone loved my services and was satisfied with the outcome of their nails. For them they just liked being in the comfort of their own home. I told them I didn't care how they came to the table as long as boobs weren't swinging/hanging in my face. Waist down they could be in their drawers if they wanted I didn't care. I was just there to provide a service and leave.
I am a licensed esthetician and nail tech and I specialize in problem feet (diabetic/geriatric). I have always done mobile footcare, that was the main focus of my business when I opened. I have a large wheeled toolbox with all my supplies, the only thing I have to pack up is my e-file and tool binder as I have doubles of everything else. I also have a spray disinfectant and paper towel in my case. Once a month I visit my parents about 3hrs away. And while there I do my parents pedicures and a couple of their friends (about 6 precovid). Currently my mom is the only person I do mobile nails for and she only gets French or French fade. I would do nails as a mobile for other people but I think I would charge at least $50 + mileage extra just because of the time involved for packing it up and then set-up/takedown.
This was good but I feel like a little more could have been touched on. What is essential? What is non-essential? What services are or aren’t practical to offer? Customer contracts? Cancellation/Reschedule? Disinfecting on the go? Do I have a consultation before hand so I’m not hauling around 2 million products? Mobile services can be super in depth and totally worth it. I’ve only ever been mobile and was hoping for more tidbits from a crew I trust so very much.
I am starting my mobile pedicure business, I would love to see a biz talk on insurances and what you recommend! Love watching you guys, thanks so much for all the knowledge!
I always have issues with lighting when I go to a friends/family house. Overall its painful - I agree! Also it takes WAY longer - many distractions, the dog, the hubs etc etc etc
I have done mobile tech for two years now. I have it set up with a small group of friends who allow me to use their pool house so I can do all of that specific group in one day for convenience purposes. I bring my entire setup and maximize my time. Otherwise you are correct...it isn’t worth the travel time unless they throw cash at the travel fees. I do find that when I text ahead for pictures of what they are wanting, I can tweak what I bring to include the necessary art stuff to accomplish that set, on top of the almost complete set of products for regular services. Over time I have become the ultimate organized tech so set up and tear down is at a minimum. My clients often help me to or from the car, but not because I ask.... hint: only work with kind people unless money dictates, and yes I know we’ve all been there. Fortunately I have been able to whittle it down to accommodate both sets of people’s needs. I enjoy the time with my CHOSEN clients now, but yes it takes time to get to that comfy place.
Yes, however I find that the tips are better than when I was in a shop. Because I can do several at once with how I have it set up, it negates the up charge for travel. The ones I do individually, instead of in a group, do have a slightly higher rate. I incentivize my clients who are all in the same “friend group” by keeping the standard rate if we can coordinate booking all at one house. Obviously COVID changed this rhythm a bit, but funny enough, most friend groups are around each other enough they don’t seem to feel threatened about catching COVID like strangers to one another in a shop setting are...
i went mobile for a few months, didn't like it at all, so uncomfortable, and product get damaged and hit with all the transportation, But if there is any nail tech out there thinking about going mobile, as tracey and Habib said, make sure your are charging well for it. THEY CAN GO TO ANY NAIL SALON, BUT IF THEY WANT THE COMFORT OF THEIR HOME, THEY NEED TO PAY FOR IT
I am doing mobile right now but in a different way, I live 2 hours away from my family so when i go into Chicago to visit I set up at someone's house and do several clients. I have a makeup train case with my supplies. For now it works.
I filled in for a friend who tried to offer mobile services for destination wedding bridal parties. It was awful. The amount of product and nail stuff needed for travel was ridiculous and then carrying up and down vacation condo/homes steps in the snow was a massive pain. Also, the services took longer than if they were in my nail shop and so it was a super long day. Usually they are having cocktails and food and so things just aren’t moving along as steadily as they would be if they had all come to the nail shop. And, I did feel like the client/bride felt like this was such an awesome opportunity for me when in reality I could have just stayed in my nail shop and been booked solid. On the other hand, going to a clients home to help trim their toenails after surgery is absolutely a service I am willing to provide, sometimes even for free if they have been a long term client. Net-net it was not a win for me...
I really want to be a mobile nail business because it’s so many women that have to Uber just to go to nail salons. I really want to help people in a small way & plus I feel like in my area no one is a mobile business so it may be worth a shot . The only way I’ll know if work or not if I actually try it 🤷🏾♀️
I am just starting in the nail industry and I think if you go mobile, the best route is to invest in a mobile vehicle One that is big enough to store your all the product you need and has the look, feel and comfort of a stand alone salon. Therefore you wouldn't have to be out of your comfort zone and this keeps you from having that awkward moment with impractical clients.....I know an R.V. type of vehicle is a big investment, but remember it's an investment. Agree?....disagree?...let me know.
@@Supernova1015 I was thinking more along the lines of taking your mobile salon directly to the clients home....park in the driveway or on the street....therefore the nail tech has the convenience of having a proper work station and the client has the convenience of a mobile salon that come to them. I'm sure once in a while you could get a bed ridden client, but even then, the nail tech has everything the need for in home setup in the mobile salon!
I purchased a motorhome (RV) to do nails as a mobile setup. Ended up getting into a whole other industry so now will be selling the motorhome. I think its a great way to do nails.
I was waiting for this video so bad, I'm a mobile nails in dallas I'm doing for 3 years and you are right it's so uncomfortable people want to be on a sofa very comfortable I only can do two costumers a day, I wondering if I charge enough I charg $100 for mani-pedy combo or $130 for pedi and gel mani, $145 for both gel mani-pedy that's all I do other way nails extensions will consume my time, thanks for the video ❤
I love mobile services its a market for it. Especially with our elders in the community. It's funny because I actually offer dry pedicure services in the bed for clients that find that more comfortable😅. I feel through my experience people are haply to pay the extra fee for travel and not only a travel fee but also just like she said people have life happening around you. As your doing your thing so a convenience fee shouldbe taken into account. I just say build it into your services price point. And keep your service menu simple.
Thank you for this, I have being thinking of doing this for one client only who would like to support me. She will arrange about 3 ladies to come to her house and make it worth my while. I am doing nails for 8 months now and based in a salon. It's quiet times now, so I could consider this. Definitely will provide my own table though. However struggling how much mark up extra to charge on my normal price, for call out fee.
I’ve been doing mobile pedicures for years. I have a foot tub and everything that I need fits in the tub and I roll it all on the pedicure chair. I ask the client the day before for a color that they would like and I would take from 4-6 shades of that color. I take everything except the towels, I use the clients towels and they don’t mind. Yes, this is hard work but I love it but I only have a year and 3 months to do this because by then I will be 50 years old and husband says no more at 50 because it’s a lot. You figure out what works for you and your clients, believe me they are awesome and understand. Love y’all much!!!!
Hey Loves.... I'm sorry I'm just seeing this. I've been very busy. Yes, I charge $70 for a 1hr pedi and if you're mileage is over 25 miles round trip then it's an extra charge. Take your time and do what's best for you and what works for you. I have found that clients wants us to be comfortable and they are willing to help also. Like they have rules for their house, you have rules for your mobile business. For example, one thing I find out before I go to a client's house is if they have a house dog. I like dogs just like everyone else but I'm there for business of pedicures, it is not time to play with the dog so I ask them to make sure that the dog is put away so I can work be productive and be done in a timely manner because I have other clients homes to go to. I hope this helps a little bit and if you have any more questions please do not hesitate. I will pay better attention to my messages. Have a wonderful day!!!! 💕💞
For me unfortunately mobile isn’t the best option. I tried at first when I started but all my good quality products going around & carry this here & there. And like you said all the distractions around! I prefer a stable place to work. Only mobile I do is pedicures for my older neighbours amazing people and we can trust each other. But I know mobile works for most and that’s great.
@@bernicecallan6593 long story short yes. When I watched this I was a “no” then I went and filed an Llc. Now I’m panicked I will never make enough money so I’m putting a mobile option in.
When charging travel , laundry and setup fee is added , but because of covid mobile and salon is suspended in my country at the moment because of the rise in covid cases.
I was able to purchase a mobile nail table with caring case...thinking ahead since I just discovered the joy of nail enhancements during the pandemic. If this was my business my thoughts were how to continue to be safe doing mobile. Like mask wearing..do you insist on the client to wear a mask in their home?
Setting up and taking down is a nightmare.. Travelling to clients you will not get to do a lot of people.. Travel time takes chop into the time.. it’s a nightmare no joke..
Great video! I agree 100% with everything y'all said!!! I do it and don't like it because of having to get so much products together but have to because 1its family and friends I do and 2 don't want everyone coming to my house because of what's going on.
Some money is better than no money, when you don't have a salon to go into anymore. With loss of business, there's more hours available in the day, not paying rent if you go mobil, hopefully it's a temporary solution!
What If yr the client.. And hv all the supplies needed for mani/pedi.. ( nail polish , chair, pedicure spa & etc)..The manicurist/lady (I hv known for 15 + years of service). She comes every 2 weeks with just her nippers /polish remover/ hand towels...Not just nails, but sometimes hair color.. Brows.. I hv all the products for each service.. we are not family..i pay cash.. ( not expensive)..She does like 7 clients a day.. Could be nails/feet or hair.. She loves ❤️ it.. Doesn't like renting a chair at a salon.. She is licensed & Mobil..awesome person..
Great topic. I'm not licensed yet but I really considered doing something different when I am licensed. This is one of the things I've considered. Thanks for sharing your experience.
What about if u have like a food truck set up but only set up like a nail salon? That would save a lot of time and clients could also meet you cuz u would always have ur salon.
I just got a business license to go mobile due to covid. Slowly buying everything that is needed for it.. I am going to charge a bit more for my services bc of travel time,
I dont like doing mobile (i have no choice right now, and i only have 3 returning clients so far) because have to charge way more for the effort, lost time, and travel; which is statistically unattractive to my location base. i dont charge as much right now and im still not making the living i need to make
I had a friend be a model for acrylic I used her table covered it with a thick towel, a salon tissue/towel, & kitchen roll to wipe my brush, when I finished the product had soaked through the towel was stuck and pulled all the varnish off 😬
If I was going to go mobile, I would make a mobile service van and have clients come into the van. That way I can control the environment. Also, I’m in Indiana, and you have to have a mobile license to even start anything like that
What about mobile services where you're working out of a van that's been renovated for a salon on the go? This would eliminate some of the issues you discussed regarding set up/take down etc. It'd still be your environment and have some control.
Yes, if you have a vehicle all set up for your services, that will take away some of your set up/clean up time, but you will still have to keep in mind travel time and expenses (gas, oil changes, vehicle maintenance, etc) and charge accordingly.
When it comes to mobile I tell my clients to know what color they want and how they would like to have their nails they way that's what I bring bc I can't have the whole salon in my car bc it's a trust issue for sure
Many people are not aware that it's a service that is being offered. So they aren't looking for it. Trying to get clientele is hard, you're not visible like a salon. I've tried advertising with every free service I could find. I give out my business cards and so on. Where I live people want the $15- $20 service and think I'm to expensive.
Thanks for this video! Honestly is very hard to get everything because you want to have everything but you can't. You always want to have a variety of selections for better choice, in my case, I like to travel And I always carry my bags of full fun selections normally my family and friends get their nail done when I visit them 😊.I no longer do Mobil services for clients, at one point that's how I would make my money going to clients homes and didn't charge for traveling. This was a few years back, and when Covid came I did like 3 clients and also charge like 10 dollars. One was local and others about 30 to 40 min distance really I wasn't making much, so I stop going to them Now they come to me 😊😷
What do you think about doing mobile "girlfriend parties" where you have multiple clients at one location sort of like an old school Tupperware party? Lol...
It depends on the tech, but you have to charge enough in addition to your regular prices to cover the travel time to and from the location, set up and pack up time, gas, vehicle expenses, etc.
I hear about my hairdresser friends who are considering going mobile, but I just don’t think it could work for me as a nail tech! My concern would always be packing the right product to bring with me... I need to be in a space with all of my gel formulas and colors nearby to chose from. I feel like hairdressers might be able to predict which products they use with each client, and it’s probably fewer products each service than a nail tech.
Yess I like to bring everything but there’s not enough space so I like to bring selections but I like to know what’s set they would want before hand and I could bring the materials needed for the set .
I also have a tiny little section where I put stuff I’m gonna use for every set. Another thing I do is I bring implement baggies with disinfected implements.
I live in s small town where booths rentals are expensive. I went mobile a few months ago to build my clientele. clients will bring me in for a day and their friends and family will come and get their nails done while I’m there. So far it’s really working out. However, some clients are a huge pain. I had one that wanted to lay on the couch and rock a baby while I worked on her. Not to mention she would start cooking and doing all kinds of stuff and asked for breaks to do chores. I don’t work that way so I have terminated at least 3 clients because of that. As soon as I can I’m renting a booth.
I think the time coming and going you loose so much time. If it is like a nail party where you do a number of people that might be an idea. This is something I never thought about. Great topic. I think it would be a night mare. Not for me. Thank you for sharing this information. All the things you point out that you would need. No not for me. Thank you again.
I do mobile service. I love it. Because, I no longer have to pay booth rent or commission everything I make is my own. I definitely bring everything except chairs. I did have to stop doing acrylic because of the smell and travel.
I believe TH-cam counts a “view” as anyone who clicks on the video. Regardless if they watch the whole thing or not! So that’s just 98 people clicking on the video in 8 minutes not 98 people finishing the video. 🤷♀️😂

Great idea, I’m gonna really think about that 😊
Having a mobile is a great idea until you run into a crowded area with no parking. 😭
Thank you for sharing! I’m 52 and feel like I’m starting all over again!
Do you charge like a salon price or much more? Could you give me some details please
@@lisastorey7318 Thank you very much for taking your time to respond 😘
No problem.... I hope it helps!!!!
I agree that we must learn to pivot.
This was awesome. I was seriously considering this but this dose of reality has helped me decide
Glad we could help! We hope you enjoyed this video on should you offer mobile nail services.
So are you goin to go mobile??
@@bernicecallan6593 long story short yes. When I watched this I was a “no” then I went and filed an Llc. Now I’m panicked I will never make enough money so I’m putting a mobile option in.
As a beginner I had this idea of making a mobile business work in my head and want to pursue it so ill let u know how that goes
Thanks much for this video love x very Informative... Im happy you keep on making videos please Continue xx
I think the best way would be to have a mobile van set up. Otherwise the time and so on is a serious issue.
She is licensed & Mobil..awesome person..
wow i did not know mobile services should cost that much! thank you!
Great topic. I'm not licensed yet but I really considered doing something different when I am licensed. This is one of the things I've considered. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Nailed by nikki has a video showing what she uses/carries for mobile service. I think it's called a train (the carrier) boy, it holds so much!
Thank you for sharing!
How about a nail bus? Like equipped pedi mani. Do maybe 3-4 clients?
What about if u have like a food truck set up but only set up like a nail salon? That would save a lot of time and clients could also meet you cuz u would always have ur salon.
I’ve been considering this too. Things to think about…water supply, where to park, state/provincial health regulations.
Very true. Definitely things to think about and look into.
Great advice here. Thanks for sharing. 😍
I think a mobile service is a nightmare and most people don’t want to pay the extra charges.
I do feel for people who can’t make it to a salon though.
would you charge more or the same, since you are not paying rent or commission?? or charge a little more for a convivence or specialty fee?
I just got a business license to go mobile due to covid. Slowly buying everything that is needed for it.. I am going to charge a bit more for my services bc of travel time,
would love some info on starting mobile nail truck services..
I dont like doing mobile (i have no choice right now, and i only have 3 returning clients so far) because have to charge way more for the effort, lost time, and travel; which is statistically unattractive to my location base. i dont charge as much right now and im still not making the living i need to make
i love the ppl i just want them to be able to come to me and have my own suite
I had a friend be a model for acrylic I used her table covered it with a thick towel, a salon tissue/towel, & kitchen roll to wipe my brush, when I finished the product had soaked through the towel was stuck and pulled all the varnish off 😬
My 8 year old wants a young nails hat. 🚶🏾♀️omw to yn website to order it
If I was going to go mobile, I would make a mobile service van and have clients come into the van. That way I can control the environment. Also, I’m in Indiana, and you have to have a mobile license to even start anything like that
thank you for helping me opt out of mobile nail services. to much to much to much
What about mobile services where you're working out of a van that's been renovated for a salon on the go? This would eliminate some of the issues you discussed regarding set up/take down etc. It'd still be your environment and have some control.
Yes, if you have a vehicle all set up for your services, that will take away some of your set up/clean up time, but you will still have to keep in mind travel time and expenses (gas, oil changes, vehicle maintenance, etc) and charge accordingly.
Thank you 3 so much for continuing the packages for us. #covid2020
That touched me 🥰
And the environment... do they have distractions at home that slows down your service?!? Etc
What are the regulations to work in someone’s home in California?
You would need to check with state board on those regulations.
Very insightful. Thank you
Not sure if u will talk about it in the future videos I’ll watch from you guys, but what if I start a mobile nail truck!?
Thanks for the suggestion, we will let the team know.
@@youngnailsinc appreciate it
When it comes to mobile I tell my clients to know what color they want and how they would like to have their nails they way that's what I bring bc I can't have the whole salon in my car bc it's a trust issue for sure
Love that! Good to know.
Habib, love the low key talk LOL.
L I S T E N 😃😃😃 YES!! this video is right up my street 👍🏽 again just what I needed !!
Mobile is NOT allowed in the state of Nevada.
Lol...
Generally speaking, how much more money do mobile techs charge for the same services in the shop?
It depends on the tech, but you have to charge enough in addition to your regular prices to cover the travel time to and from the location, set up and pack up time, gas, vehicle expenses, etc.
Tracy is 💯percent correct.. you loose that control one hundred..
You guys are awesome 🙏👏👏
EXCELLENT VIDEO.
Can you plz do a video with the best mobile nail drill rechargeable plz 😬 affordable plz
Unfortunately, we can't speak on other products as we don't test them.
Tracey said it was okay that he interrupted her?! ARE PIGS FLYING ?!
You have to have rules..
Thanks for sharing!
I would do it for celebrities when I reach that level🤑
Car insurance, wear & Tear on the car. Products, towels lots of towels, is it safe where you are going, a portable pedicure situations, no way.
Not worth it in my opinion.. time, gas, parking fines, etc..
How did this video get 98 views in the 8 minutes it's been available?
🤔 ... it's called a fan base. Everyone gets a notification.
I believe TH-cam counts a “view” as anyone who clicks on the video. Regardless if they watch the whole thing or not! So that’s just 98 people clicking on the video in 8 minutes not 98 people finishing the video. 🤷♀️😂
@@TheBeautyBusNYC yeah, subscribers get a notification, that doesn't increase views.
@@MrXallie I didn't realize youtube counted a view that way.
It's impossible for 98 people to have watched the video in the time it was available.....

He Talk Too Much 😎
I offer this and I love it.
