Great video, I have just replaced mine on a 307SW 2.0HDI, glow plugs 1 and 4 measured 2 ohms but 2 and 3 were open circuit so didn't give reading. Ya I think your plan sounds good. If you can tilt engine forward a bit then that would help and also engine hot might help too. You can also try to spray some injector crack around them if you can reach location and leave it overnight it might help
On cold mornings my 407 2.0hdi emits blue smoke and runs rough for 30secs, would this be glow plugs? Also what is the standard resistance of a single glow plug so I can calculate amps of 4x working glow plugs and use a DC amp clamp to ascertain how many are working
Hi mate I have previously use a heat resistant silicon gasket from tube as I struggle to find a gasket to buy for 2.0hdi and even if there is one its not gonna seal up everything might be just a small one around injector holes.
i am thinking to get peugeot because of reliable hdi engine, also i like how easy is to change injectors here (my opel meriva requires to undo engine head to get to injectors :) But on the other hand glow plugs access is tough on peugeot as exhaust manifold is in the back closer to windscreen. On opel exhaust manifold is in front... anyway, there is no perfect access of everything, right? or is there such handy car for the mechanic?
Hi mate I have run 2 x 1.6hdi 407s up to 240k miles as a taxi and it was still going strong and sold for people who still use them. 2.0hdi is even more solid. 1.6hdi exhaust manifold starts in a front of the engine also turbo is in a front. 2.0hdi turbo and exhaust manifold is in a back. Glow plugs location is not great but you probably need to change them if you live in a cold country also if you change them they last many years. Peugeot is very good car for value. These engines designed very well and used in many cars like volvo, Ford, Peugeot and citroen. I would strongly recommend getting Peugeot preferably 2.0hdi. Good on fuel does average 55mpg and plenty of power in it.
Hey man, I was wondering if you could help me out I’ve got a 2009 308 Peugeot that has the same code it was driving but stalling at some points, it now will only turn but not start and after the first try the engine won’t every try to turn over for a couple hours any ideas on what could be causing this issue thank you for the in-depth video
Hello, I don't understand why you don't disconnect the cooling of the egr cooler and remove it. What problems can it give to do that? Everything would be easier, also in my case I have to clean it because I have smoke problems. good video thanks
Well it wouldn't give you more problems just it would make your job longer as you would have to refill, air your cooling system if you disconnect and take out egr cooler
Nice job and good strategy to just push aside the egr and cooler. I want to do in same way. By the way...did you unmount the engine hood for better acces?
Hi mate I have not unmounted a hood as I work alone so it would be a pain to line everything after job done, but idea is not too bad as it potentially give extra access to back of the engine.
Have a good time, I think you will answer my question, that's why I'm asking you, I cleaned the throttle and map sensor before, when the car is idle, the idle rises in the lpg, it automatically comes at 1500 cycles, it happens when it's idle, it doesn't happen in gasoline, it drops slowly when the clutch is pressed, what could be the reason?
Very interesting video although I don't really have the skillset to do this job on this engine due to where they are positioned, however I wonder if you could tell me before you scanned for the fault when you started your car from cold did it just run lumpy on 3 cylinders smoke quite a lot until eventually running on all 4 cylinders & smoke clearing? I only ask this as I've just bought one of these cars from a dealer & the next day when we went out it spluttered into life from cold how I described. I took it back today to them & they popped a computer on it that allegedly cost 5 grand & they said it's not showing a glow plug error & I am not entirely convinced. They gave me a free warranty so I could take it to another garage to get it sorted but I think in reality they didn't want to tackle the job.
Hi mate my car was working fine before glow plug replacement I only replaced it as it was the only fault coming on diagnostics then scanned and I wanted it to be faultless also make a video for a channel. Most of 407 have glow plug fault if it has never been done but it barely ever affect anything unless you are living in a very cold country.
@@Mad4FrenchCars Thanks for your reply I'm now confused as to what the problem could be then. Tonight when I finished work it started fine for the first time so maybe the car has been standing around a while who knows so I'll keep an eye on it. It does have a warranty so if it persists I'll get it checked out.
@@tichwykes starting problems in these cars mostly relates to egr valves as if they stay open let's say it becomes struggle to start the car. I would get it scanned with Diagbox or Peugeot planet it should be some sort of fault stored.
these engines will start fine on no glow plugs, they just smell a bit at first on cold start and on forscan will give a fault code, youre fault lays else where probaly fuel related , injector ??
@@Mad4FrenchCars thank you, yes It’s not the time of year to be doing too much work on the vehicle. MOT next week though so we shall see how that plan goes 😁
Thanks for the detailed video man! And I must say that is a whole lotta work for just replacing the glow plugs, damn. Is there not other way of doing it? Did you replace the plugs because of any symptoms like jerky ride, problems starting, car dying, etc or because of OBD errors? I am trying to diagnose sporadic light "hickups" while accelerating (they are kind of appearing , mainly when the engine is cold. And I have just the P1351 error showing.
Good job, buddy! I have the same 2.0 hdi 100kw,so I wanna ask you...at 09:53 that pipe you removed, on my car it has some oil in there, and also some oil leaks on the intake pipe(pipe which goes from intercooler to intake). And now at these cold days (from 0 to 6 Celsisus), my car won't start from 1st try, and sometimes it does... I refreshed my engine before 15000km, becasue I had damaged piston which curved 1 valve...so I changed that piston and it' holder, put new pistons rings at all 4 pistons, changed all 4 glowplugs, but my engine runs louder than it should, sometimes has to start it several times...it starts up and shut down immidetly... I haven 't repaired turbo charger but it is not ok, cause I can hear that sound it produce... So, is my engine still bad(cause of that oil in that pipe)? Can bad turbo charger pulls oil into intake pipe...? Car has good accerlation and it does not have blue smoke on exaust... th-cam.com/video/vO6Jxi0xJ_k/w-d-xo.html

@@miloshlionhi, i just changed my glow plugs and the relay, the car starts and doesn’t turn off alone, drives better, heats faster and doesn’t make the smoke. Try a new relay, is very easy to replace, is under the computer unit.
Hi mate I see no more posts hope everything is ok I was wondering if you could possibly make a video on how to Change a c4 2.0 hdi actuator position sensor? Many thanks 🙏🏻
Nice video...how come you didnt use a torque key or/and some lubrication/penetrating oil spray? Just relying on the "feel" for unscrewing/screwing the glow plugs?...and also...is it recommended to use some special grease when mounting the new glow plugs for better removal next time ? Thanks...great work..I love it how calm you were dealing with the procedure ☺️
You can use a torque key for anything but I simply don't use it. I must admit I didn't know where is a product to apply on them for easy removal next time. I did rely on a feel then unscrewing and I think I did mention somewhere about a spray you can use, it's personal choice really. Thank you for your comment I live and learn everyday I think like most of us which I think is a good thing.
@@Mad4FrenchCars i have one glow spark burnt...but I'll wait until winter is over and then change myself all of them...it's not so difficult to do lots of things at home if U have tools, good documentation before starting to work and some skills..and of curse U must like what U are doing...there is some type of grease dedicated to such type of things, heat resistant and sealant in the same time...will help a lot when unscrewing the glow plugs next time, and also, when replacing, tightening them at the torque indicated by the producer helps...anyways...everyone has his own way of working. Keep up the good work 🤩
@@tuzgureanu21 thank you mate I will try my best. I had one burned aswell you could see in a video was a bit tricky to get it out becouse it had a carbon deposit on it. I would probably use a bit of injector crack spray around it before removing also then turning it out you might want to do a bit of forward and back action like undo it then do it up tiny bit. I wouldnt wish to anyone to have one broken. Location is a nightmare. Anyway good luck with the job then you decide to do it.
@@Mad4FrenchCars Hi!! for that work you don't need torque wrench because if you put your hand on the spanner handle at less than 20 cm from the bolt then the maximum torque you can apply manually is around 20Nm and you need to be very very strong to rich that
You dont need a torque wrench because a small spanner only allow you to deploy around 20Nm of torque manually and dont stick grease on the thread cos it will burn eventually

great video... you are very patient. I have a coolant leak (possibly the EGR cooler) on my RHR, from the same location at back. What camera or phone have you used to shoot this video ? I am after something that will allow me to see where the leak is as the car is running. PS.. I have shifted the engine forward 2 or three inches off the mounts to gain better access previously which has helped immensely.
I used a gopro 8 to record a video. It could be one of the hoses leaking which goes to egr cooler it used to be quite common on 1.6hdi not so common on 2.0hdi but never know. Also if it's a hole and small leak you might be able to dix it with a seld sealing tape rather then swapping a hose as if you swap a hose you will have to refill cooling system and bleed air out of it

Great great job!Thank you!
@@Mad4FrenchCars Thanks so much
Nice job and good strategy to just push aside the egr and cooler.
Hi mate I have not worked on any vehicle with lpg for a long time. Maybe something wrong with a lpg regulator.
@@Mad4FrenchCars ok i understand thanks for your information
Hey bro, i have a question: is glow plugs are in the back of engine in non-turbo version of 2.0 hdi 90hp?
Good question mate I believe it would be in a back but I can't really tell as I have never worked on a non turbo 2.0hdi
@@Mad4FrenchCars thank you
This job needs doing on my Scudo, been putting it off for a while 😂
I would wait for somemer then you have a longer days and also it's warmer. Also make sure engine is warm then you do it. It helps to undo glow plugs.
@@Mad4FrenchCars thank you, yes It’s not the time of year to be doing too much work on the vehicle. MOT next week though so we shall see how that plan goes 😁

great ..good job thanks
Thank you mate
Thanks for that video.
Changing the fuel filter (and adding some water-removing fuel additive) took away my cars hickups
I have the same on my Peugeot 407. Oil on the pipe is okay said my mechanic, start and dies the engine that is happening in the morning when is cold, glow plugs said my mechanic.
@@EnglishJohnyBoy It's not about glowplugs in my case, because it's only happening when outside temperature is from 0 to 8 Celsius...
Well done 👍
Thank you mate

I'm surprised so much you was able to film. Nice video.. o have a Volvo V70 2.0d 100kw with this psa engine. Engine is quite nice, event woth 600k km on clock. But i have blue smoke in cold about 5-10sec.
Using Multitester on relay and glow plugs relay can show actual working or not?
USe ampclamp to watch if it's poolin current. With meter you can also mesure résistance betwen 1 and 1.5 ohms I think.
Plavi dim je znak da izgara ulje.
great video... you are very patient.
Also if it's a hole and small leak you might be able to dix it with a seld sealing tape rather then swapping a hose as if you swap a hose you will have to refill cooling system and bleed air out of it
Hi guys, where can I find the oil breather hose pipe, part number 1192WH, but not in plastic please (I can find it in plastic) ! I need it made by rubber multipurpose, like seen between 9:02 and 9:05 in this vidéo.

Same issue..First cold star after overnight because same as yours just in one day. The engine judder for 30-40 seconds and emits whitish/ bluesh smoke. Then runs fine. 3 glow plugs was dead. Changed all 4. Symptoms stayed same but for a very short time. Thinking about timing, compression or injectors.. did you solve the issue?

Well glow plugs do get faulty also a glow plugs connector cable can be damaged. It doesnt really effect a car if you live in uk or somewhere there is no cold weather but if you live in a country with - 30 temperatures in winter then you get to learn what a glow plugs for and it does effect start in a morning a lot
