These fault conditions get ever more interesting with newer models! My 2002 Prius responds to a weak 12V battery by running the brake pump, failing to pull in the HV relay, and going dim - a pretty obvious indication of what's wrong. (I've seen that all too many times the past three years; not enough driving damages the aux battery, then in cool weather there's just not enough charge to get through the startup process. And finding a correct replacement for *that* battery is an Adventure.) Those little boost boxes do come in handy.
The 12 V battery does not turn the starter. It does not need more than 4 V. It will last 12 years at least it looks like you connected the red clamp to the ground on the side of the car.

Are you retarded? A battery needs to see 12 volts and a battery does not last 12 years. Idiot
