This project is very dear to my heart because it's about my countryside property. In this video I show you 4 months worth of work in 25 minutes. This video covers every steps of the house project starting with the foundation up to the first floor and the roof.
As you will see in the video I used a lot of concrete and rebars for the house structure. The brick walls are 12" wide for a nice insulation during the winter. I used 10 to of rebars and 3500 cubic ft of concrete.
I have put a lot of time and effort in this project as I spent over 4 months supervising the brick house construction. In addition, I spent other 6 months planning and preparing this project (working closely with the architect, the legal permits, selecting the contractor, buying the materials and so on).
This is PART 1 of the brick house construction. In PART 2 of the project I will show how I finished the interior and the exterior of the brick house.
I designed the house having in mind a Mediterranean theme, therefore the generous arches to the front porch and the roof style. In addition, I have chosen simple light colors to highlight the architectural elements of the house.
I would love to see your opinions regarding my project. If you have questions regarding my brick house construction, feel free to leave them below. I will answer everything :)
Take a look over my other brick and mortar project, that is about how to build a 20x24 garage / workshop -- • How to Build a Garage ...

I live in the US in a brick house that was built in 1959...it's a maintenance headache, nothing is leveled, the floor is wood and you can tell it's bowed just by walking on it....That's an awesome structure, the roof can also be made sloped with reinforced concrete but ill take a wood structure for the roof any day if the rest of house is made of concrete pillars, beams, and ceilings.

For the foundation of my two storey house, I plan to use a pier foundation, with concrete only around the home. The pillars of concrete; two or three rows of pillars. Foundations can be expensive. I am on a budget, so I am not going with slab concrete. The only bad thing about slab concrete, if you have problems in the future with plumbing, you have to break your floor inside the home. This can be expensive.

    Question:
    1.Size of rebars
    2. Size of Columns
    3. Why you used heavy rebars on second floor just like in foundation?

columns are all 30 cm x 30 cm. foundation rebars 14 mm with 8 mm stirups. column rebars 16 mm and 14 mm with 8 mm stirups. It has insulation now, I've used rockwool. It's a monoblock structure, where the walls have no structural purpose. That is why all the walls and the floors are heavily reinforced. The flat roof would work just fine and it looks sleek, but it's a big no no if you live in an area with snow.

That foundation is needed because I live in a seismic area. We get 7-8 Richter earthquakes here (every 30 years or so) so that's how you build a foundation that lasts in these conditions. If I were to build a wooden house, costs would have been similar, just the time would have been an advantage. Couldn't be more satisfied with my choice. Proper wall insulation (10 cm rockwool), triple panel PVC windows, underfloor heating with air-water heat pump, and everything is working great being environment friendly as well.

I can probably answer your question, but you weren't very specific. I will assume you meant how does the concrete floor of the second story stay where it is. It is a poured concrete floor, poured as one piece. it covers the entire house. you see after the bricks making up the first story, a solid ring of concrete is poured surrounding the perimeter of all load bearing walls. then all the areas in the inside have a form using wood that is level with that concrete ring. The concrete is poured directly into this mold, solidly attached to the concrete ring below it. when it dries, the wood is removed. it is usually 24cm thick, so quite sturdy.

Well considering the price of lumber it might actually be cheaper to build a brick house in the US, also housing market is through the roof, so this would actually cheaper than buying a regular home.

Since you are Romanian, you should know these are the new legal requirements for new homes. If 80% of houses are built with 4 rebars, doesn't mean that's the proper way to do it. This house is built up to the new codes, and it's nothing special, all my friends house were built the same way. If you want to sleep tight and follow the law requirements, this is how you need to build a new house.
