Both Warcraft and Starcraft was supposed to be Warhammer games, but due to some internal squabble with Games Workshop it was scrapped, so Blizzard then took the assets they've already made and created Starcraft and Warcraft.

Over the past ~15 years I've read probably around 50 or so Warhammer 40k books and really enjoyed most of them. However, I will say that the universe is so incredibly dark so I will often take months or even years off from reading the lore. Sometimes I wish they would tone down the evil a bit, but I realize that's part of what makes the universe unique.
