    It's amazing that it takes an electric car to get the presenter/ driver to actually have to concentrate on a fast lap, no fancy power slides,sideways action. Just a bleeding fast car (and heavy) keeping Jason honest and on it.
    The fact it's 4 seconds faster than the hot hatch darling of the moment just shows how quick this electric Porsche is.

But you'll get this from the Tesla fan-boys "Just wait until the new Tesla Roadster comes out or I'm sure they cheated". It's so funny that they are blindly devoted to a car company that looks like they've been assembled by grammar school children. I couldn't believe how bad the build quality was when I drove one.

      @@noelynoelnh There aren't any lap times for Tesla Model S at either Castle Combe or at Lemans Bugatti circuit (where a Taycan turbo S has set a very fast 1:50:35). I guess nobody has bothered to use it like a real sports car, come to think of it I've never seen one at a track day here either.
      I think the Taycan will slaughter the current Model S by quite a wide margin, but for comparison, at Castle Combe, the 1:13:58 is a few tenths slower than a 991.1 Porsche GT3, it's faster than an R35 GTR, depending on the model. So it's really, really quick.
      Do you really think that a company which has been winning races for decades isn't going to make a world-beating EV? I think you guys need to learn your history a little more, and also realize that the Model S isn't a track car by any stretch.

    Hey gents, I did some digging but haven't found out which circuit they use. However, I did find some comparative lap times at the Lemans Bugatti Circuit. (SportAuto)
    1:50:35 for the Taycan Turbo S,
    about 2s slower than a 991.2 Turbo S (1:48:63); it's 3s slower than a 991 GT3 RS, which is a world-leading track car.
    So by any fair measure it's bloody quick.
    I just got a Taycan earlier in December, and while it's obviously not a track day car, it's extremely capable on the road and for such a luxurious and big car, it feels very close to a 911. When you're driving windy roads, it's supremely confident and the way it puts power down is like nothing else I've driven. I'll be making some videos on it soon!

    I've never been a fan of electric cars either, but it's because there is no way to go on an extended drive. In spite of what every fanboi says, taking half an hour or more every 200-300 miles to charge is just not an option when you're used to doing it every 500 miles and then taking 2 minutes. I am not disputing that they are - or can be - fast, and clean and all that. Just that you are nowhere near as independent in them as you are in a diesel or petrol. Try taking some extra electricity with you in a jerry can.
    So they're fine for around town and for daily commutes. Not for people who regularly do long drives.

    • @sleepindragon179
      @sleepindragon179 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We are a way off quick recharging times, and lots of places to do that from.
      When these electric cars can be charged within say 10mins to full range and that range is 300 miles plus then we are on to something. Its going to be a while before electric cars have the convenience factor.
      The government want 2030, that sounds an ambitious timescale to have a slick product and infrastructure in place.

    • @supaahflyy
      @supaahflyy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Electric car and petrol car owner here.
      Yes it's less convenient on long drives because you can't stop where you want to stop, you stop where the car needs to stop to charge. However to play devil's advocate, if you're ok with that and can make the most of it for example if you're on a road trip I assume you're with your family and kids. The kids need to eat and take a piss every 200-300km generally speaking before they get restless. If the charging stop happens while they are doing that, then the time is used well and simultaneously the car is getting charged.
      Cars taking 30 mins or more to get to 80% battery is what I'd call Gen 1 of electric cars.
      Gen 2 which currently only the Taycan and Model 3 Tesla are, are the cars that take 20-30 mins to get to 80%. Gen 3 will be when they take 15-20 mins to get to 80% etc.
      If you time your average fuel stop when out on a road trip, I guarentee with immense confidence that it takes you roughly 10-15 mins and not a couple of minutes like you think it does. It's nostalgia speaking there. People want to get out of the car, stretch, get food, go to the toilet. Yeh sure you filled your car in 2 mins but the process of paying and the family doing what they are doing takes up another 10-12 mins.
      If my prediction is correct and Gen 3 of electric cars that charge in 15 mins occurs then the time won't be too much different.
      Note: tesla and Lucid are claiming 400 miles range already. I think lucids top of the range is claiming like 517miles. It won't be out the realm of possibility that coinciding with gen 3 electric cars the range will be up towards the 600-700mile range especially with solid state battery tech.
      Watch this space. You might be surprised how quickly it's evolving. For me personally I did a 1000 mile journey stopping every 150miles or so and it actually made it more relaxing than just hammering on for 500 miles then stopping.

    • @jonathansmith5850
      @jonathansmith5850 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Recommendations are that we stop for break every 2 hours. That’s usually 100 or so miles, so half hour stop for toilet, lunch and coffee easily tops up the battery and you’d have to stop for that anyway. Most long journeys in the UK are not 500 miles, more like 200:250. Today’s electric cars like Tesla model 3, Kia e nero more than capable of covering those miles with a brief stop for lunch

    • @xr500t
      @xr500t 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup. It's a deal breaker for me. I would be willing to put up with a 10 minute wait for charging, after that , after that, it's a chore and annoying. I did have to laugh when you mentioned the jerry cans! I just rented a Ford F250 and Uhaul trailer to transport a BMWz4 from NY to Massachusetts. I filled the Trucks tanks and took 25 gallons of gas in 5 tanks with me. When I got to NY, I filled the trucks tank and it took me 15 minutes to gas up + another 15 minutes to load the car on the trailer. 500 miles round trip in 8 hours. Even with nothing in tow, try making that 500 miles in 8 hours in an electric car.....not gonna happen.

It also turned up on a transporter and had techs crawling all over it, all day, and was constantly plugged back into the mains. I reckon it would last 10 laps on a trackday and then you are off home so long as you have a trailer to carry it on 🤣
