Hey AOE Tips - I heard you helped with the development of this game - balancing civs out and such. Great job m8. I hope they paid you.

I helped with the balancing mostly. They paid me with a spot in the credits screen, which is awesome! I really just did it for the love of the game so I didn't really expect anything in return.

Hi! Congratulations, very good video. Your tips about getting resources optimally are easily extensible to other Age of Empires, even to Age of Mythology. Maybe you could mix some stuff about that in the videos and you could get more people that are interested in these games watching this channel. Keep the good job!

You should link the video on wood cutting around your TC. I think it was the deer hunting video?

Yes, thanks for pointing that out! No, it is a different video.

Im new to this game, its AI is terrible if compared to AOE2 but once you learn how the units react, becomes pretty cool.

Good video! I didn't know that about the importance of wood income, even being more important than placing it next to stone.
One question, however, is it worth it to place it in a bad spot (if it's next to stone/deer) if you are doing a slinger rush on Hill Country/ Highlands?

Personally, I'd place the storage pit in a good wood place and deal with inefficient stone mining (to the point of manually helping my villagers to chose the right stones to mine). Slingers don't require as much stone as your economy requires wood. From what I know, rushing damages your eco so the point of a rush is to (a) minimize the impact on your eco and (b) make sure your enemy's eco suffers more than yours. What do you think about this approach?

It can be a good idea, but the problem here is that those villagers are working very inefficiently, they could have been used much better elsewhere. Just think about how much more wood they could have collected during the same time. It is pretty much impossible to determine what is too far away in every situation, but I generally do not advice stone mining from a a greater distance than a couple of tiles. Just worry about the wood first, and if you have stone within, say 5-10 tiles, mine it. Otherwise, just make a new storage pit while you are going up to the tool age. Those villagers definitely have collected the 120 wood by that time to make the extra stone storage pit. Plus it allows for a faster stone income in case you need to wall or want to make a tower. Let me know what you think about this! :)

That makes total sense, will have to try it out if I get a bad map!

I usually let the map dictate the type of rush. If you have a nice stone + forest spot, you can go for slingers. This also applies for when you have deer/fish (on water maps) + stone. If you don't have any of this you may, want to decide to go for axemen instead.

"You should repit if it's between 4-6 tiles away from the wood line".
Hmm... So if I build it 7 tiles away I never have to repit!
