im playing a map in campaign , and im in a island with no gold, the boats of the enemy wargalley and scout ships, plus some transport boats arrive at 10 min or so, wich is better for me to make? towers, archers,slingers? (its the mission after holy man )
that mission can be tricky. Make sure that you make plenty of villagers and then just make lots and lots of villagers, use bowmen and slingers to defend your land. Don't go to the third age. Also, mine all the stone and make some towers and some walls.
i'll try this tip next time, what i did was destroy my boats and dock, keept away from the shores, that way the enemy could'nt find me, i had tons of wood an made 10 docks, wall me in, made 15 archeries, spend all my stone in sentry towers, delete 1 vill so the buildings could produce more than 50 units.that toke me 3 hours. why should i make the third age? i actually made trade boats and prey to they not be destroyed , and i made to the iron age. (theres gold in a island not defended very close, i didnt know kkk) it's being honest playing like that? hiding to avoid trigger the AI, develop and collect bunch of resources, until vills become obsolete, and then made docks to build a navy, then charge the enemy? im doing the same thing after that mission.
It's been a year since you wrote this comment, so you've probably found the answer. But if not: slingers were added in the official expansion for AOE: The Rise of Rome.

How to defend from a slinger rush? Which units should I use?
In tool age the scouts, i suppose
But they cost too much food(100 in original game, 80 in 5th legacy mod)

A guy that attacks throwing rocks at the enemy. It can be trained at Bronze age, for 40 food and 10 stones.
In ancient armys, it was very useful to break bones, scare soldiers in formation or to hold enemys trying to run away.
