Ah Ford stem seals, God bless them, racked up loads of miles on my old XR3 and I would be replacing yearly to correct the plume of smoke on cold start.
Nice video I got a Toyota MR2 that I've had parked in my garage for 4 years, put away fine but now valve seals have dried out, they were boarder line before I stored it so definitely need doing now, only trouble is taking the head of these motors is major striping, it was bad enough replacing injectors on it a few years back, ridiculous amount I had to take off just to get at them, anyway glad to see this as it's very similar to my setup using bucket lifters, Been trying to find a tool to do it and the one in your video would be perfect for my job, never used the rope method before as always taken the head off so here's hoping.
My car emits blue smoke after 20 min of driving, always when moving off in 1st gear, I am assuming is the valve seals as the oil heats up it gets thinner and sneaks past the seals.
It's incredible how much digging i have to do just to learn why my engine is burning oil and how to fix it or at least try to, every mechanic shop wants to charge me over 1k euros or tells me to just scrap my car. I want to save my little focus, they just don't care i guess
Great video. I have heard that it is better to change valve stem oil seals by removing head so you can properly clean the ports etc. Is this true or standard practice to do these seals like this on all engines that you can? Thanks
Another good job done at least you know they are done properly time consuming but it will be well worth the time and effort you have put in

Carl Richards bizarrely I had no smoke on start up. Just after over run and loads of oil consumption.
what a brilliant trick with the rope and straw!
Enjoyed the video Steve, very informative. Keep them coming 👍
Michael Cosgrove thank you very much. Will do.

hi chris. it starts much better now. i think the wet plugs from the oil was part of if not all of my issue since i rebuilt the head.
Hi Steve My car have same problem stems valves Can you help me to face this problem
Hi Steve, where online can I purchase that valve compressor tool?
I got it off ebay but it was a good few yrs back now.
What happens if you don't do them steve??
If your seals have gone bad and you don't change them you will be burning oil.
Did the victor reinz seals resolve the issue yea?
No. The car is long gone now but the guy I sold it too replaced with genuine Ford and problem solved.
This is good content, thanks a ton
When they say you have ring issues they probably wernt on about your car.
Driveway Developments maybe they weren't oops.
Euro car parts have caused us nothing but pain
Very helpful
Really enjoyed that Steve. Need to do the same on my Clio. You make it look easy 😎 will give you a follow on insta!
