Sweet looking rig - I also had an IIyama and it rocked picturewise.

Grim is definitely the word for the state of this thing at first. Cleaned up nice, though! Another IBM saved. The heft of this thing and its general design really does hark back still to the original PC, which is amazing. It's also amazing how quiet that fan is considering its age! Definitely gonna check out that demo, thanks for the tip.

There is a better CPU upgrade for a Socket 5 single voltage machine than a 166mhz non-mmx. They also made a 200mhz Pentium "classic" that will fit socket 5 machines. No MMX capabilities, but it will drop right in. The S-spec numbers are SL24Q, SY044, SY045. They used to be fairly common.
It's also probably worth getting the extra 1 meg to upgrade the video RAM. They're usually about US$5 per chip.
It would also be a great machine to install NT 4.0 as a dual boot on.
That's a pretty nice machine. I never saw one in the era they were new. My employer at the time preferred Dells and Gateway machines.

Thanks I just found an eBay seller with a few SY045 for under £10 so ordered one :) I might have to upgrade the video card now! Such a slippery slope haha

The P200 worked fine, but now I've swapped it again for a P200MMX (I know I'm overvolting it, but I've done it many times before and a new heatsink and fan is installed). The BIOS reports both P200 and P200MMX at 166MHz but benchmarks show it's running at 200MHz. From 32.1fps to 42.2fps in Quake 1, PCPlayer from 12.7 to 15.3, Doom from 61 to 74fps.
I also just ordered a whole PCI S3 Trio 64 just to get its socketed RAM as it was cheaper than buying the chips individually :)

@@stevec00ps Nice! It's always fun to hot rod machines in ways that would have been un-affordable when they were new!

I have a (originally) P75 model, I threw a 133 I had lying around into it, and also switched the mixed 2x8 FPM and 2x8 EDO RAM with a spare set of 2x 16 EDO for a total of 48 and EDO operation... mixed EDO and FPM drops it to FPM, so it may be worth checking what your 2x8 and 2x1 are - not sure if the original loadout would be 2x8 EDO and if someone stuck a spare pair of 1GB FPM in, the RAM performance would be pegged to FPM mode.
Adding the VRAM onboard adds some extra high / true colour modes, and lets the Trio 64 stretch its 64 bit bus legs in Windows acceleration, not sure if it would add anything to DOS performance.
PS. Somewhat sorry tale, I threw my old S3 Savage 4 in, and could not get it to work... but AFTER grabbing a NVS280 (FX5200) from ebay, I happened to throw that into a different board for testing, and then the Savage 4 as well - turned out the monitor I used the first time just does not like the signal from the Savage 4... glad I hadn't slung it, as it was my first ever 3D card

Yeah I did do the 1mb VGA upgrade in the end. Interesting about mixing FPM and EDO, I will have to check!

Cool video and interesting restoration. I have the IBM PC 330 Type 6577, with pentium 166mhz non-mmx, 64 mb ram (combo of edo and sdram 5v) and 1.2gb hdd. The bios came in german and it was from 1997. But I found an english bios from 1999 and flash it from floppy disk. With the new bios from 1999 I could install a sata 80gb hdd, using a sata-ide adapter. The bios detects the hdd just 8 gb, but windows 98 detects and uses the full 80gb space.
A more period corect os for these pentium IBM PC 330 would be windows 95 and/or os/2 warp?

I am glad I found your video, I picked up two, 330's but mine are socket 3.
There should be a model number sticker on the far right beneath the 3.5 " drive.
The cover at the far left near the top is for a PCMCIA slot according to the user manual.
Mine don't have the fan behind the front cover, how does that fan get it's power? I want to put a front fan on mine.
    8 GB drives work.
    Just subscribed!

My one has its model number missing from the front panel, but on the bottom there's a sticker that says Machine Type 6576. The fan gets its power from one of the pin headers along the front of the motherboard - there are more than one labelled 'FAN' on my system.
      Thanks for the sub! :)

@@StevesTechShed Thank you for your reply, mine doesn't have the fan headers on the motherboard, I did find a 80mm fan with molex connectors.

It's an Iiyama Vision Master 17 (mf-8617a) and it's lovely! The image quality is amazing and I love the little LCD screen it has :) It's actually cabled via BNC to VGA.
