  • I have acquired another IBM PS/2 Luggable machine, a model P75 (486 DX/33) but the iconic orange gas plasma screen isn't working very well. Join me in investigating what was wrong, how I made it potentially better, and rather unique!
(The LCD model is a 10.F" model 'LP-10R02' from 'Taiwan Video System Co Ltd')

nice mod, looks factory, i would put some hot glue in a few places to keep that panel secure, it can be easily removed with some alcohol if required

Very interesting video! curious do you have a new floppy drive? i’ve been struggling to find one which will accept the eject button, for my p70 ive got a modded cable that works

No, on my P70 I've replaced the floppy with a normal one and custom cable, but the button doesn't quite line up...

Removing the plasma screen from a scarce p75 would have to be considered a felony, it is difficult for me to understand why someone would go to so much trouble to ruin what makes that computer remarkable

What if the spare parts are no longer available? So you can use it again. It would even be possible to change the color palette so that the same (monochrome) representation results.

Did you see the video? The plasma screen was perfect, what was failing was the graphics card

@@Carbarion Yes, that is correct, but the display is not controlled like a VGA/EGA display. So you really need a suitable card.

@@mibnsharpals "The internal gas plasma display of the IBM P75 is XGA/VGA, EGA, MCGA, CGA compatible, and operates at a maximum 640×480 in 16 shades of grey in VGA mode. The IBM P75 can drive its internal monitor and an external monitor simultaneously. "

The panel is fine (I believe!) it was the damaged video card (leaking capacitors corroded traces and chip pads) which has a dedicated connector to the panel so, and it's MCA, so apart from removing the card from another working P75 it isn't replaceable. I made the machine useable again :) I have other plasma P70 IBM PS/2s which work fine so I don't think it's too bad. Thanks for the watch :)
