This is one of your best wash days I've seen. I find that my hair is similar in texture and density to yours but mine is drier and a bit more prone to frizz because of my grey hairs. I was being sparing with the protein, just doing light rice water treatments a couple times a month. However, I'm noticing that my hair looks so good after I do a gelatin treatment that I may need more protein more often for my hair to look shiny and curl up better. Anyway your hair looks awesome in this video.
I have been working with so many products for about 6 months now, and STILL GET FRIZZ!! Does it sound stupid that I got tears when I just did a strand test and never knew that my hair needed protein?! Thank you so much for this video. Your curls are so uniques and are gorgeous!
Oh my.! I have been on a deep TH-cam dive for years trying to find someone with my hair type. I have issues with my hair that I've never been able to figure out. I think our hair type is almost exactly alike. Cant wait to watch more of your content
I have learned so much about how to take care of my hair from you. Now I incorporate a little bit of protein in every wash day and it has helped me so much. Thank you!
Thanks for this video. Only a couple weeks into CG my hair began getting mushy (which surprised me, as my hair is now short & virgin and I only ever air dry). Guess my hair is very high porosity. I tried neutral protein filler because it was cheap and not only did it immediately fix the mush but my 2a-b (with some 1 strands) perked up to 2c all over with a few 3a curls mixed in. Wowza. I never expected full on curls.
Also fwiw, I tried the few drops first but it wasn't enough, then a 50/50 water mix sprayed lightly on damp hair and left it overnight. Still not enough for me. Ended up dousing my hair in it straight in the shower and leaving it for 5min before rinsing. THAT was enough, maybe borderline too much but levelled out in 24 hours. I find my hair isn't getting as greasy feeling as the roots since as well.
Hi Courtney! Your curly hair journey and videos have encouraged me to give it a try 😃 Could you please make a video of your favorite hair refreshers for 2nd day hair and a how to video how you like to refresh your hair?
I tried the NYM curl talk line. Got the itchy Ms! Went on a revision, trying NYM naturals green shampoo and cond. With your curl talk! LOVE the smell 💓
I think our hair is similar as far as my hair loves protein too, and is also fine and low porosity. Thank you for explaining the over-moisturized hair so well. It’s making so much sense with my washday fails lately! I couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong, but the limp waves, weird frizz, and taking FOREVER to dry is all exactly what’s been happening.
Thank you dear Courtney for this video my hair also ... after months of experimenting ... realize now I need more protein .. my hair looks great after protein. xxS
Oh I have the same hair type as yours. I only realised my hair was curly 10months ago and never used protein yet.. can you imagine?! So I’m very in need of protein in my routine. Thanks for this video 💞💞
I love your videos and am learning lots from you. :) But could I ask that you tone down the music background just a smidge...it's very distracting while you are trying to explain things. :(
Hi Courtney. I am new to your channel and have been binge watching. This is good for you but kind of bad for me since you frequently mention many products and I get them all confused. So I have to tell you how helpful the links listed below a video are. I take a screen shot of the list. Then can use the links to check them out further. You have taught me so much. I value your product info because my hair is fine and wavy. I love your energy; watching is so much fun.🤗👍
I put the Neutral protein Filler in a dropper bottle cuz I was so afraid I'd use to much. The dropper works great! Have you ever tried AminoTouch Protein Drops?
I get a serious cast from the bounce curl gel... My hair is fine, low density, medium to high porosity, type 3. I love a cast personally since my wash no go last longer.
I got the Blueberry Bliss leave in conditioner and I use a lot of it. Maybe I'm using too much? Of course I have just started my journey so... Also, my hair is very coarse but otherwise somewhat similar to yours I think.
Yeay! I'm so glad this video was helpful! Really I would start the the curls blueberry bliss leave in and if your hair likes it then i'd grab the Neutral protein filler. Use the curls leave in every wash. That really helps keep my hair balanced!
Have you ever tried HASK products?? They have a pretty affordable line i have 2bish hair i think haha. Im using the Biotin shampoo and conditioner along with Curls blueberry bliss leave in and the Uncle funky curl stimulator. Buuttttttt even after all that I cant get away from a mousee and spray 😟😟 is that bad lol???
I appreciate this video. Very helpful. I have a practical question for you. I won't truly jump into CG method until after nursing school graduation at the end of July, but when I do, I wanted to know a couple of things. I will get the book, I promise. I currently work as a paramedic in the emergency room, and I exercise. What do YOU do when you need to pull your hair up? How and with what do you put your hair up with? I run the entire 12 hour shift and have to put my hair up, because it is very long and pretty heavy. So, if you have to put your hair up, how do you save the waves/curls? Is there a way to sort of "reset" them after you have had to wear your hair up? Will it be okay to wash more on a daily basis? I am not sure what to expect when not using the normal shampoo/conditioner method daily as I do now. I know you are busy, and I always appreciate you taking the time to answer. Thanks so much. :o)
Can you look at the glow lab products and tell me if they are good please. My hair is similar to yours when shorter and i want to embrace my curls but dont know what NEW ZEALAND products are good. Im slightly fussy and like everything to be 1 brand instead of bits and pieces out of every brand.
I recently changed my hair products but I don’t think they contain any protein so I’ve struggled to keep my curls from dropping while drying and my wash days just haven’t been working. So I tried your gelatine protein treatment yesterday, I did a terrible job of it was very lumpy etc but I did notice my curls were back. Unfortunately, they’ve dropped again today and I’ve tried refreshing with water and gel just with praying hands method with little success. I do think I need more protein so I’m planning to get some products.
So I just started and I'm realizing as I watch this video and read my labels that my (new) initial line up has protein in the shampoo, my main leave in and the gel. My conditioner doesn't, my mousse doesn't and I have one leave in that doesn't. My first line up didn't work so well for me and I returned a bunch of stuff and swapped. I think maybe my hair was too weighed down and too moisturized with the first set of products. My hair likes the new set but now I'm wondering if I need a few things to swap out so that I'm not using so many things with protein every single time I wash??
Love your efforts in your videos ❤️ Great video as usual. I have a doubt regarding foam(mousse).Which gives better hold to curls is it gel or mousse. If mousse,is Giovanni a good option
Courtney how do the rice water rinses compare with the gelatin treatment? Mine loves protein after the rice water but wonder if one is better than the other in some way? have you noticed?
Hi Courtney, first off thanks so much for all you do. you've helped me greatly navigate toward the right products. im a dude traveling the curly girl universe and i had a question. i think im over moisturizing my hair. (i used the salve protein treatment from curlsmith which is amazing) but i only used that once a month think. wondering do i used the shea moisture protein conditioner in my a weekly regimen along with regular conditioner (separate steps etc.) i can share my routine (which i think i doing to much, but results look good, but not fully balanced)
New subscriber here 🥰 I've been looking for someone that has the curl type as me and that has a high porosity too. My hair is medium-coarse, 2b-2c, medium-high density, high porosity hair. My hair loves protein too 🥰 Have you tried the Andalou Argan Oil&Shea Leave In Conditioner, it has some proteins too 😊
there are sample sizes on the innersense website, just not on amazon! and it's a relatively recent thing :) although it is $12 for 2oz which is a bit painful
i have low porosity, thick 2b/2c hair, i’m currently using the jbco leave in conditioner & scrunch up with gel, but it doesn’t have much hold & my hair tends to puff up & i want a product that’ll help with that, any recommendations ?
Are there any helpful tips you can give when applying Curl junkie repair me? I can’t get that product to work for me. Thank you!!!! After use, my hair looks the same as before.
You should do a video trying the denman brush!!! I have around the same hair pattern as you and I’m debating on buying the denman brush please please review it!!:(
This is so helpful! Could you do a Cantu washday? I believe that every product has protein in it and my hair is very similar to yours. It is very inexpensive and I can't find a video of someone with my hair type doing a washday with Cantu.😥
Target usually has travel sized bottles of Cantu products if you want to go ahead and try it out yourself! I have super fine, high density, 2c hair and I do love Cantu products, however, a lot of them have little to no protein. So Cantu can't be my only brand, because I do need protein. I hope this is helpful!
@@nikkidriessen5059 usually I rotate my Cantu cream shampoo and cream conditioner with the Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus shampoo and conditioner and for styling products, the Shea Moisture Curl enhancing smoothie has some protein, as does my Tresemme mega hold gel. Hi there! Thank you so much for all of your videos. We have VERY similar hair types. I'm relatively new to this journey, however have very minimal damage. I have some broken off pieces due to tying my hair back too tightly, but I have no color, and next to no heat damage. My question is this: if I go too far into protein, how fast will it bounce back? Glycerin is kinda a bad thing for me in South Louisiana, so I'm trying to figure out the moisture /protein balance. Thanks in advance for reading, and any help! I aspire to your gorgeousness!
Same! Today was my second wash day and my hair went limp. There is protein in most of my products but they're more towards the middle of the ingredient list. Not sure if I need to add a protein mask to my regimen or switch a few products
Courtney, do you know of an affordable leave in protein that I could spray on before I apply my gel? I need it badly around my face. Maybe one that’s even available at Sally’s?
Hi Courtney! Just wondering where you buy your products? Can we find these in stores? For example I want to try the Biosilk gel but I’m afraid if I order online they might send me the one with drying alcohol. Thank you for these videos! I’ve watched & rewatched and every time I can’t wait to wash my hair again and try new things!
I hear ya. I'm so scared to buy anything off the internet. I've been reading reviews too and it seems like Amazon sends people scam products that end up not being the actual product they paid for. Seems like it happens way too much. Who wants to go through that when they are paying for a product PLUS shipping and handling. That's another thing that I can't figure out.... Perhaps there's something that I'm missing??? 🤷🏼 I'm 35 and I've never bought anything off the internet before....
I love your videos! I’ve been struggling so much with my frizzy hair lately and I kept thinking I just need a haircut bad but I was actually just lacking protein!! I know it’s expensive but Can you do a full innersense wash day?
Haha thank you! I just did another one brand wash day. And this video happened to be filmed when I had day one hair. And the weather was good, and the stars aligned! Lol. The one brand wash day is coming soon. I'm trying to use a new editing software for the videos and it is really taking a while to figure out!
Yes this product does have protein! (I felt really bad because the video was 10,000,000 years long so I have to cut a few of the products). I made an Instagram post with all the products in the thumb nail. The deva curl be-leave in does have a lot of delicious protein but with the high glycerin content it can be a pretty tough product for me to work with because we rarely have ideal dew points where I live.
The Blueberry bliss leave in doesn’t have much of a scent. Sally’s and Target carries it so you could give it a sniff to see if it’s too strong for you.
I'm in love with your curls!!! I know the point in the curly girl method is to wear your hair curly but does that mean you can never wear it straight again?
April Pacholski I am actually developed a way to wear my hair straight without damaging it. If you’d like you’re welcome to check out my product free video. That’s how I show how I wear my hair straight. I can do an updated video soon!
Look for hydrolyzed silk, wheat, soy, pea or other protein, hydrolyzed keratin, hydrolyzed collagen, keratin, amino acids, or biotin. Edit: Also! Go to the website isitcg.com and find the ingredients for your product on another website, then paste them into isitcg. It will tell you if the product contains any proteins.
Jesus Christ! Not even funny how perfect your hair is. You could wash it with laundry/dish soap/detergent and it would still look and feel perfect! Your hair shaft is born and grows perfectly. 😃🌺
I swear, I thought my frizz was a result of not enough moisture. Protein changed EVERYTHING. Thank you Courtney.

I agree, I could barely concentrate on what you were saying. No music is necessary. At least the music didn't have singing, that's even worse!

How do I identify protein ingredients in my hair care?
Look for hydrolyzed silk, wheat, soy, pea or other protein, hydrolyzed keratin, hydrolyzed collagen, keratin, amino acids, or biotin.
Edit: Also! Go to the website isitcg.com and find the ingredients for your product on another website, then paste them into isitcg. It will tell you if the product contains any proteins.
