Can I just say your hair ASTOUNDED me as soon as the video started, my jaw literally dropped at how GORGEOUS it looks!! If my hair could even look half as good as your does I could die happy
"Let me show you what I'm starting with" *turns - hair still beautiful* 😮 Mine never looks that good to start with! Today is my first day with the CGM, so I guess I need patience.
Your day 2 hair (even before the refresh) is goals! I'm only a couple weeks into embracing my 2B-ish waves and sooo hope my hair gets as amazing as yours. My day 2 is a bit terrible right now! Like you, I am an oily girl so tend to wash every other day. Your videos have been so helpful and today I had my best wash day to date thanks to your tips!
Ooo I randomly stumbled on this method last month when I left my spray bottle at home on a vacation away from home! It has been a game-changer! Glad that you are sharing the success 😊 PS that shirt makes your eyes pop! You are gorgeous!
This is my go-to channel for hair tips, not just because we seem to have the exact same type of hair and hair issues (type 2 waves, fine, medium-high porosity, oily, etc.) but because she is just hair goals. I mean look at that liquid gold magic!
It's so great to find someone else that has to wash every other day... I can sometimes push to 3, but that day is almost always a bun/ponytail day. I feel your pain with the oily thing! Thank you for sharing!
The more I watch your videos, the more I understand my hair. I thought I was a 2a or 2b. But im a solid 2c all over the top and my under layer is looking like 3a. Probably because when I straightened it, I never focused on the bottom. I'm thinking that once my hair recovers from all of the straightening I'll be a 3a all over. I'm kinda excited! I'm 2 weeks in. Anyway, thanks for the refresh video because I've been literally rinsing my hair EVERY MORNING in order to get it to behave. I'm going to try the Ecoslay orange marmalade that you recommended (because I NEED the moisture) and hope that this gel will do me some good. Thanks again! You inspire me to love myself just the way God made me.
Ah, thanks! I did NOT understand what people meant by refresh. Seeing it in action is very helpful. Going to try this and see if it works for my second day hair.
You just got yourself a new subscriber! Watched a few of your videos and I love how gentle and sweet you are. Great tutorials and the fact you explain things so well makes it just common sense! Looking forward to get back into the CGM.... your hair is stunning!
Courtney, I think your hair is so soft and touchable because it is oily. I don’t see anyone else touching their hair so much and it still looks beautiful!
I tried this this morning and it works so much better than spraying directly into your hairs!!!! I do not really get why but it works. Some leave in diluted in deionized water topped with diluted down mousse and my hairs look "good enough to go". Went from Hagrid to Hermione! (I did not know I have wavy hairs a month ago - still a long way to go but keep going). Thank you Courtney!
❤ your videos! I was an oily scalp and face gal in my youth as well. I’m 54 now and can say that the oil in my hair pretty much diminished about 10-15 years ago and my face is no longer oily. Hasn’t been for years but one of the bonuses of an oily complexion is that you will look younger than your age for quite some time so enjoy! 🎉
I am a 2B/2C and recently turned 4 months of being a CGM "convert". I find your videos helpful and made me brave enough to explore what works for me. A million thanks to you! ♥️
This was so helpful!!! Thank you! My hair is in the early stages of CGM and using water to refresh has been horrible for me. I'm definitely trying the water-gel and praying hands method! ❤👍😊
Hey! I have just watched this video for the first time and must say, I love your hair on day two without refreshing! It’s so voluminous and has beautiful curl pattern. I prefer this type then very define. Thanks for all the advice 😘👍
I have very curly hair and I wash my hair every day. I love watching refresh videos, though, because I keep hoping I can wash less. Your top (dress?) is super, super cute!!
Thank you! Yes its a dress from Kohls! And I totally understand washing your hair everyday especially with all the fitness and workouts you do. I've recently taken up running and man oh man with all that sweat, most times I just have to wash my head! haha
Have you tried rinsing with just water, lots and lots of water, but just water? And if you have and you didn't care for your results, what about baking soda (a tbls of baking soda dissolved in about 12 to 14 oz of water) followed by an apple cider vinegar rinse? If you do the soda ya gotta do the vinegar, otherwise you can damage your hair. I've had fairly good success with it when I'm trying to avoid using shampoo and conditioner for some reason (like I just henna'd my hair).
Thank you sooooooo much for posting this video! I have been having trouble trying to figure out how to refresh and get rid of the frizz. I never thought about trying to add water to gel! I just tried it and the choir of angels might as well be singing!
Finally, I'm not the only one who doesn't wet and spray hairs for refreshing! I wet my hands and put on some leave-in and scrunch it in my hairs. Thank you for suggesting Marisascurls.
My hair is SUCH a struggle and I have never been successful with refreshes. I always end up fully soaking and redoing my whole routine except shampooing which is only 1-2x a week. Anyway...this video popped up on my feed yesterday and while I didn't have the exact products I used what I had and used the same techniques and I actually don't hate my refreshed hair for once! Woo! Just wanted to say thanks!
I so needed this today! I am early on in my curly hair journey [3 weeks]. For the first time ever, I was sort of able to pineapple my hair last night, so I still have some curl left. I am going to try the gel/water refresh. Thanks for all of your videos. You are one of my favs!
I'm relatively new to the curly girl method and I am loving her hair tips! I was surprised to find how much curl my hair had in the morning after pineappling. ( is that even a word? Lol! ) Cheers! 😊
My day 2 hair has never been good. Maybe only once? But with your hair, even before the refresh looks fantastic to me. I'm actually obsessed of your hair.
THANK YOU for this demo! I’ve been playing around with CGM since November, and I’ve been on the STRUGGLE BUS with frizz on refresh days. I never would have thought to try this way, and my hair is so much more cooperative after trying! Love your videos!
You know I did too! But I thought it was a perfect opportunity to show different refreshing techniques. But there was something really fun about the big hair!
Thanks for the video! I love the way your hair looked before the refresh! My hair is so dry I am jealous of your natural shiny moisture! I have much curlier hair but I enjoy your videos and tips!
Well I'm so glad you are enjoying the videos! And I do understand about the dry hair situation. It took a long time for my hair to get like this. But my sister has been the curly girl method just as long as I have and her hair is just different than mine, Her hair is gloriously curly, and mine is shiney. Different textures have different attributes!
Your hair AND eyes are absolutely stunning! I rarely refresh, for all the reasons you listed when using a spray bottle. I used a little dry shampoo today and then ran my fingers through my hair (if I successfully elongate my 3a curls down to 2b & 2c waves, which helps control frizz on humid days, I can do this without it looking frizzy or silly), but that's it. I'm going to try this in a bit. One of my 32 oz. spray bottles has 2 oz. of my favorite gel mixed into the water, specifically for refreshing or touching up problem spots. I'll spray it into my hands today instead of directly into my hair. Wish me luck! Thanks for the demo! You've given me a few ideas that no one else has, and my hair's health and appearance have improved directly due to your tips!
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney Wow, I can't believe it's already been a month! It didn't do anything for my hair. I think it's just because it's so thick/dense. In order to do a refresh, I have to completely soak my hair, which I'm not up to doing most days. (I'm disabled and have very limited mobility.) I'll just have to stick to having fluffy hair, unless a miracle comes along. I've been thinking that maybe I'll just embrace being the eccentric lady with the wild, fluffy, frizzy hair. Make it a personality trait. 😂
Hi Courtney! I am very overwhelmed starting this method! My hair is beautiful the first day after a wash. BUT the second day, it’s is always crazy frizzy no matter what I try! I don’t understand what I need or what type porosity I have either 😭 we should make a group chat to help each other!? ❤️ love your videos!!
Wow...this refresh method is doable for me...I'm definitely going to try. Thanks for sharing Courtney. My hair type is wavy and I live your video on the struggles that we go through when we have this type of hair..👍
Oh my goodness! Thank you so much for this video. I struggle too with when I wet my hair down with a spray bottle it looks crazy! This video is a life saver!!
Your hair is amazing, like goldilocks. My hair used to ringlets until the age of 4 years, then it went poker staright. Now in my 40's it has started to become 2b. I have started to do the curly girl technique but am not very patient. I live in the UK, so don't need to worry about humidity, just rain. I used to wash my hair and sleep with it wet but it started on to like frizzball.I have not coloured my hair for years and beat styled it approx 6 months ago a handful of times. I do not own a diffuser so am eagerly awaiting your copy of the dyson for my Xmas list! My hair takes ages to dry, even with a hairdryer and I am really struggling with refresh due to excessive frizziness. i only need to wash my hair every 4\5 days. I have decided for the next couple of washes to concentrate on moisturizing my hair but not actively styling it. I think I need to purchase a better quality conditioner and get a curl enhancing mist of some sort. I will also try not spraying it directly. I might have a half year by Xmas thoughtfully shee rfrustration!
How you coming along? I'm near Leicester and the CGM stylist recommended tge Twisted Sista range, LOVE the gel... You can buy it Superdrug or Boots. Just starting out myself... Prolly a 2c/3a on a good day, have a 5inch spring back in a few spirals, and just waves elsewhere... Going to get it proper cut in January.
Thank you for this! Spraying water directly on my hair has never worked, but I tried this method today and was very pleased with the definition I got! Your hair looks so soft and frizz free-I aspire to get my hair there some day!
Was just able to salvage my wash day due to this video! Washed last night and went to bed before hair was 100% dry and it was all wonky in the morning but thank you for this video! I saved it and don’t have to put it up now! Yay!
I don't remember which video I saw first on your channel after binging them for a few days, but I do remember thinking that your hair type looked INCREDIBLY similar to mine. I was having a hard time finding anyone with hair like mine, which I think is important because not all hair types and patterns react the same. I think the main difference in our hair is that you have finer strands and I have thicker strands. But the curls and waves and the size of the clumps are super similar and I have been especially struggling with my refreshing technique since I went all in with the curly method a year ago. I really want to applaud you for this video in particular because every refresh day for me ended up giving me a flat top and frizzy, stringy, loose waves. I had never thought to pray in the water instead of spraying it on. No wonder my curls were so flat on top before, I couldn't really control where the spray was going and I didn't need moisture on my roots, just throughout the length. And I think the praying method smoothed and re-clumped my curls instead of the spray just clumping my frizz and making it look stringy. I tried this refresh method for the first time today just by using water and a tiny amount of the Kinky Curly Custard just to add some shine and moisture and I got several compliments on my hair. I even got into a conversation with someone at work about curly hair because she thought that I had used a curling iron and I said I don't even own heat tools anymore, only tried a new method for refreshing 3rd day curls! Thank you so much for making your videos. I keep learning new things about my own hair in each one even though I've been doing research throughout my curly journey. I can't wait to try more things from your channel!
Just tried this and it’s amazing!!! I knew hitting my hair directly with a spray bottle wasn’t working for me but hadn’t found a better technique ... until now! Thank you SO much 😍
omg this saved my hair. i had been using a spray bottle with a fine mist nozzle and had HORRIBLE frizz, no shine, no definition. this made my second day hair look like first day hair
I tried your refresh this morning and I'm super happy with the results!! I used to think I had to rewet my entire head for my waves/curls to come back, but your method worked perfectly and took way less time!! Thank you!!!
i’m 15 and didn’t really know i had waved hair until just a few days ago. i would normally just brush it and it would be super poofy (i have 2b/2c) i ended up noticing that my hair would curl before i brushed it. so i finally decided to follow a wave tutorial so now i’m super confused on how to take care of it.
i’m in the same situation lol. i’m 16 and i always knew my hair was kinda wavy if i wouldn’t brush it and let it air dry. my solution to that “problem”? i would just brush my hair once it’s dry. it got rid of the waves by making it super frizzy :/ yes i have looked like a lion for 16 years of my life and now i’m so lost
hey! I struggled with the same issue before finding out about my routine! If youre looking for easy steps to take, brush your hair only before washing it, and only finger comb it while dry. Spraying it with water lightly and scrunching it also helps
Wow! Game changer for my frizzy waves! I have been spraying straight onto my hair and it has been making it frizzy, so I have just kept my crown basically straight. I think this will help a lot. Thank you.
You are such a genius and so amazing, I've been binge watching and getting so much help to get back on my curly girl journey. My hair looks like the pics of you hair when you started, I'm so hoping to make it work this time and hope to see similar results.
I was taught to refresh by spritzing my whole head with water to reactivate the gel cast but I’m STRUGGLING with frizz. Ugh so many methods and products sometimes to sort through!
Courtney your videos have been such a big help! I'm only a few months in, but my hair has changed so much and I'm never going back to my old hair life 🤣🤣 One thing that happened was that my dandruff came back after i hadn't seen it for 4 years 😱😱. i was looking for a dandruff scalp oil or treatment, but so many of them contain tea tree, which I'm allergic to , or they were just so expensive. i noticed some of them contained salicylic acid, which was always too harsh for my face and caused eczema flares. I had some Etude wonder pore toner that i was going to give away because it was too harsh, but decided to try it on my scalp in between washes. It worked great! So then, after that was gone, i decided to try the clean n clear salicylic acid astringent that used to tear my face up. It's amazing! So about 2-3 days after wash day, or whenever my scalp starts feeling itchy, i just rub some astringent into my scalp and it works like a rinseless shampoo. i wash once a week, but i now that I'm using the astringent, i bet i could stretch it out to 2. But i really look forward to wash day now lol
I have very similar to yours and have shied away from the curly girl method because I felt like I wouldn't be able wash it much if I wanted it to curl, and it gets greasy so fast. Hearing that your way your hair every other day is making me think I could actually give it a try
COURTNEY. Courtney, Courtney, Courtney. I bought the Alikay leave-in after watching this. Watery sprays somehow break my clumps up and give me stringy frizz, so I figured I’d try this. I actually DID get magical results. It even brings back some definition on my top layer when I do a little twisting. Thank you so much for the rec! You have saved my 2nd-3rd day hair!
Ooh this was fascinating to watch. I am going to try this both these methods for my next refresh and hope I see an improvement with the frizz. Also due for a trim at the weekend
This is a real game changer for me! I'm so happy! I'm at the beggining of my CG journey (and I think my hair is in moisture overload oops time to add protein) and I thought there was no way for me to refresh without 100% wetting my hair which is such a pain. Thank you so much!!! Update: two weeks later, I've been doing this everyday day (that is not a wash day of course) and oh my god I love the look of my hair like that!
Finding a good refresh routine is like finding the perfect pair of pants! You have to try on a bunch of different ones till you find the right fit. My fave right now is just the leave in glazed over. I also tend to really lower my expectations on days 2 and 3. That actually really seems to help my outlook on my hair!
This length, style and cut are so flattering on your beautiful face. This is my favorite look on you! Thank u so much for all your sharing. God bless you🙏🏻💕🙋🏻💫
I tried this today after washing my hair last night, and I LOVE IT!!!! Do you think this method will work as a normal routine? Thank you for sharing!!!
Courtney- thank you! Your calm, easy videos are so helpful. I was looking for a new refresh technique this morning- I’m three months CG today and have tried several! I’m going to do your Marissa take with a little gel and water sprayed onto my HANDS- not my hair. Do you think it might work with cream and water as well? I had been thinking about using Cantu cream for a refresh.
Just tried your refresh routine for the first time today. I like the results - thank you. The true test will be going outside in the cold autumn weather. Fingers crossed!
The fact that you say your hair and scalp are oily gives me hope. I feel like I'll never reach proper hair health and hydration because I need to wash every second day due to oilyness but you are living prood it works.
Thanks for sharing the tips (yours and the one from Marisa)! I saw the video last night and tried the tip with gel and water and the praying hands this morning! and it worked perfectly in 5 minutes! I love it 😍
My go to refresh for 2c hair is spray with water, then add kinky curly spiral spritz and aussie instant freeze gel. Gives crazy curl definition, scrunch, and diffuse
You should try Kiehl's Creme with Silk Groom -- I love it, especially in the winter time. It's very moisturizing. On days when I want looser/softer waves I just use that and some foam/mousse as my stylers.
I have been waiting for this video!!! I don’t wash my hair but maybe twice a week. I have incredibly dry skin and scalp so washing a lot is not good for me. I will be trying this refresh method soon! Love your videos! ❤️❤️
thank u - I really really REALLY hate refreshing lol. This will make it easier than practically rewetting my hair completely like I was with the spray bottle 😬
Hi there! I just found your channel and I love watching someone with my exact hair type! I was wondering how you got your hair so glossy! Mine tends to frizz quickly. Ive always wanted glossy curls and I really dont like my hair. Do you have any anti-frizz tips or videos?
I got the Treluxe gel and am so glad I did. I have wavy hair and this gel worked so good on my hair, it gave shine and more define result which is something the Jessicurl gel didn’t do for my hair... thank you for sharing this refreshing method,I love the results on your hair and mine😉
Cassandra Tingley I bought it at Whole Foods but after 2 months of using TreLuxe I had to return it, because TreLuxe products contain Propylene Glycol as a preservative, i didn’t know propylene glycol can cause scalp irritation that can also lead to hair loss, I did like how my hair look after using TreLuxe leave in and gel but i notice that after using it I got very itchy scalp and also notice I was shedding way more than usual so I stared searching what was causing this to me and thank good I found the culprit....no more TreLuxe for me
When you are scrunching I couldnt telling if you were gently scrunching, almost your open palm technique, or are you closing you fingers more? Your videos are sooo useful, thank you!
I'm so so glad you are finding these videos helpful! I was actually using a medium pressure when i scrunched. Open palm being zero pressure, and applying products on soaking wet hair being a hard pressure. I hope that makes sense! LOL!
Can I just say your hair ASTOUNDED me as soon as the video started, my jaw literally dropped at how GORGEOUS it looks!! If my hair could even look half as good as your does I could die happy

Same, girl. Same.
FightingThe GoodFight how is it going now? :)
It's a year later - how's it going??
Do you brush your hair on day 2? I’m on like day 3 of figuring this all out....

even when using curly girl approved shampoo and conditioner your hair is oily? Did the oil slow down once you stopped using sulfates and silicones?

Well thank you Ann! Yeah I will say that smoothing over with the spray is my fave refresh technique these days!
This is amazing! My refreshes do not go well bc my hair frizzes! Can’t wait to try this
Really? I get less and less frizz as the days go on, but on wash days it's like I'm straight out of the 80s
Me too

Love that dress!! You look amazing free and wild! Great refresh tips!
Thank you for this! Spraying water directly on my hair has never worked, but I tried this method today and was very pleased with the definition I got! Your hair looks so soft and frizz free-I aspire to get my hair there some day!
Oh my gosh! Your day 2 hair is the magical unicorn of day 2 hair! 🦄🦄
Was just able to salvage my wash day due to this video! Washed last night and went to bed before hair was 100% dry and it was all wonky in the morning but thank you for this video! I saved it and don’t have to put it up now! Yay!
Courtney's apologizing for her hair at the beginning of the video, and I'm just over here like 😍😍😍 GOALS!
I love the big fluffy bouncy curls💕💕
This method worked amazingly! I had no frizz with my refresh today 🙌🏽
Your starting hair though....is such a dreammm
forever obsessed with her hair my god
i’m 15 and didn’t really know i had waved hair until just a few days ago. i would normally just brush it and it would be super poofy (i have 2b/2c) i ended up noticing that my hair would curl before i brushed it. so i finally decided to follow a wave tutorial so now i’m super confused on how to take care of it.
i’m in the same situation lol. i’m 16 and i always knew my hair was kinda wavy if i wouldn’t brush it and let it air dry. my solution to that “problem”? i would just brush my hair once it’s dry. it got rid of the waves by making it super frizzy :/ yes i have looked like a lion for 16 years of my life and now i’m so lost

hey! I struggled with the same issue before finding out about my routine! If youre looking for easy steps to take, brush your hair only before washing it, and only finger comb it while dry. Spraying it with water lightly and scrunching it also helps
OMG 😱 I need to try this! My hair second day looks like 💩 Game changer!
went and got the pantene mousse curl that you rec in another video and it is just amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you
What technique did you use on your hair to make it so big and fluffy? I love it!
bump
You plop it
I'm convinced it's magic
I was taught to refresh by spritzing my whole head with water to reactivate the gel cast but I’m STRUGGLING with frizz. Ugh so many methods and products sometimes to sort through!
Sarah White that's what I do.
Maybe use a light mist of a refresh spray just on the top layers to lay that frizz down?
I mix essential oils in my water bottle so when I refresh my hair gets the oils and it helps tame the frizz
I just tried that on impulse with some rosewater and it suuuucked!
Courtney your videos have been such a big help! I'm only a few months in, but my hair has changed so much and I'm never going back to my old hair life 🤣🤣
One thing that happened was that my dandruff came back after i hadn't seen it for 4 years 😱😱. i was looking for a dandruff scalp oil or treatment, but so many of them contain tea tree, which I'm allergic to , or they were just so expensive.
i noticed some of them contained salicylic acid, which was always too harsh for my face and caused eczema flares.
Do you brush your hair between wash days. I want to try the curly method but I love brushing my hair several times a day.
This method has saved me!!! Thank you
Glad it helped!
I just can’t get over how beautiful your hair is! 😍
You have been so helpful on this curly hair journey. Thank you!
Just tried this. Wow easy and calms the frizz. Went and subscribed to Marisa. Transition frizz is real this morning lol
Thank you so much for this!! I was actually able to get some curl back with this method with my hair getting stringy AF. Game changer 🙌🏻
You do the best job of describing everything! Thanks so much.
Thank YOU Natalie for always being so so kind!!!
You look so good in that color! It brings out your eyes so much! Not that you dont look beautiful all the time. 🙂
You have fabulous hair. I started yesterday with your method. Thank you for all of your help!!
Your day 2 hair is so epic. I loved it even more that your day 1 hair even BEFORE the refresh...wow
You totally just saved me from a wash day!! Thank you Courtney ❤
Wow!! That’s amazing! I’m going to try this!
Ooh this was fascinating to watch. I am going to try this both these methods for my next refresh and hope I see an improvement with the frizz. Also due for a trim at the weekend
Courtney - I have just discovered and subscribed to your channel after watching several of your videos - you are such an inspiration! Thank you XX
Your hair looked gorgeous after the refresh but it looked pretty gorgeous before as well!
I am so in love with your hair. My hair is similar but it always looks dull. Not shiny like yours. It is colored and highlighted.
I need to get a good refresh routine down. My hair doesn't seem to like to refresh and it ends up getting pulled back!
God bless you🙏🏻💕🙋🏻💫
Great video will be using this technique tomorrow
Girl, I *wish* my Day 2 hair was that nice!!!
Thanks for sharing the tips (yours and the one from Marisa)! I saw the video last night and tried the tip with gel and water and the praying hands this morning! and it worked perfectly in 5 minutes! I love it 😍
Your hair is so pretty! I just started the CGM and I’m loving your videos.
Yep! I have super oily hair, and have to wash it every other day.
WOW! I love the volume and bounce to your waves!
My go to refresh for 2c hair is spray with water, then add kinky curly spiral spritz and aussie instant freeze gel. Gives crazy curl definition, scrunch, and diffuse
Thx, you’re info is so helpful! How would you prioritize products for travel?
thank you for sharing this. I want to buy that Lemongrass product. I'm having trouble with 2nd and 3rd day hair.
I just started two weeks ago and I use water to refresh and love it!
Your videos have saved my hair life!!! Thank you for making these ❤️❤️❤️❤️
You should try Kiehl's Creme with Silk Groom -- I love it, especially in the winter time.
If your hair is more dry than I bet it would really really like the leave in!
thank u - I really really REALLY hate refreshing lol.
Elsa, where did you get the Treluxe? Thanks!
LOL!
Yes, that makes sense 😊 I just tried it this morning and so far so good! Thank you.
I love, love love that look!!. I wish my hair looked like yours!]!!!!
