  • In this video, I will show you how I opened the hood on my 2003 Ford F150 when my hood release cable was broken. I used a large flat head screwdriver to break into my engine compartment.

Thank you for this. My car battery died and it's parked on the road, so I seen many other videos that said how to get hood unstuck but all thr videos said the car needed to be jacked up, I'm parked on the road and on a slight hill, so couldn't do that, then I searched up how to do it with a screwdriver, and your video was the most informative.

but if it's just a dead battery you can still open the hood with the latch.

Took me 30 minutes to manipulate the plastic shroud over the release mechanism. 30 seconds to disengage it. I actually used the factory jack handle & a pair of needle nose to do it, straight thought the grill. (No damage done.) After cleaning & greasing the mechanism, I used the blunt screw end of the jack handle to reinstall the pin on the shroud (also, through the grill). Thanks a million for this video; it worked, perfectly. Hope my trick helps if anyone doesn't have a lot of tools on hand.

*Here is a solution that worked on my 2001 Ford Explorer Scout,* when NONE of the recommended approaches would work. For some reason, my particular car seemed to be a bit different from all the other Ford Explorers. The Chevrolet Monte Carlo bottom up approach video worked on my explorer. The main problem was accessing the vehicle from the bottom up. There was no apparent access path. There is, however, ever one approach that works, which is located just right of your license plate. You have just enough room to stick your arm up it. You just have to push a tiny plunger that is connected to your cable wire. It was extremely easy to move, once you manage to put a flat screwdriver with an extra long shaft in the correct position.

Thanks to this video popped the hood in 10 secs with screw driver, charged my battery and crisis averted. Thank you. Ford Expedition basically an F150 without a truck bed.

For %150 trucks with the "honeycomb" grill, you can approach the latching mechanism from the left, rather than the right as shown in the video. The pop tab AJ refers to in the video can be depressed using a thin piece of stiff wire rod. Thank you AJ!

Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I was able to get my hood open thanks to you. I have a 96 Ford F-250 and my latch is completely enclosed in a metal casing. If you look at the cable in your video (at 1:19) you’ll see that there’s a rubber grommet where the cable attaches to the latch. I pushed on the grommet until it popped out of its retaining slot, then I was able to grab the cable with needle-nose pliers and pop the lock. Hope this helps folks in a similar situation.

    Thanks for your video.
Went out to roll up my windows last night and apparently left the keys in the ignition in the "ON" position of my 2002 Ford Explorer. Woke up this morning to find my doors locked and my electronic keyless entry wouldn't work. I never bothered to get an extra key made since I didn't see a need for it with electronic keyless entry. But since the battery apparently drained down, and I'm not able to get into the locked truck to pull the hood latch to open the hood and charge up the battery, I was thinking I had to call AAA for help.
Nope. Your video got got the hood opened so I could jump the battery with the wife's car, and WaLa! The electronic keyless entry worked again. Today at lunch---I'm getting an extra key made. :)

My hood on my 1999 Ford Explorer won't open using the latch inside, and I have to find out if the cable is broke or the latch under the hood is not working and need to be lubed. I am checking the hood latch under the hood first and if that isn't the problem I will check for a broken cable.

@@DragonPilot i suppose we could fasten down our batteries or something with a bracket, i think mine is zip tied in right now though so I could make a more permanent fixture and bolt that down in the future to prevent theft but that's pretty high risk and low gain kind of crime so I don't know how much I would have to worry about that

I grab a hold of the cable right there in the grill and pop the hood then from there it opens good. Now I'm thinking of just getting rid of the cable all together and simply fix a welding rod into the latch permanently and I may once the cable breaks.

Thank you very much, it is good to know. I even didn't know such thing can happen. Please could yo tell if I want to have a spare Hood Release Cable and can't find for 2001 Saturn SL2, is it possible to modify another one to fit the car? Probably if it is same length of the cable you can. Thank you again.
Update: on 2001 Saturn SL2 it doesn't work. More of that, when I put the lock in closed position with the hood open (I wanted to see how all that works) I could not open it back. I tried to pool w/cable how we normally open the hood (I should remark here that there is no problem w/cable or lock and I just wanted to see if I can open the hood if the cable is malfunctioning) and discovered here that the cable was not under any tension. When I closed the hood everything started to work again. So somehow the loop from the hood is needed to bring the lock in operation. So my question is:
@1:45 if you close that lock with your hands (pry bar or smth), can you open that lock w/open hood or not? I mean the hood is open and you close the latch (lock) and then open again.

Doing this on a 2002 explorer is not so easy. They put a plastic cover in front you need to destroy almost to get at lower latch lever. Thank you for showing how too!!! Now going to destroy cover open hood charge battery, etc...

    • @figibloom
      @figibloom  7 ปีที่แล้ว

If you just need to charge your battery, you might try going underneath and hooking up a charger to the starter b+ and the neg to the engine block. I dont know if that would work to charge your battery, but I cant see why it wouldn't. Well good luck to you on whatever you are trying to get done. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment.
