I just tried this on my 2017 Ford Fusion. I think Ford saw this video because mine is completely different. You have to get a screw driver or something much longer just to reach the rubber block. Then when I moved that out of the way, I could not see the latch. Going to the Ford Dealer bummer. Funny thing, I found out that the hood latch had malfunction at Ford's Quick Lane. I said, So, your the dealer can't you just fix it...the Service Advisory told me I have to make an appointment with the service department because Quick Lane is not equipped to deal with it. Sheeeet.. that $120 is still better than what the dealer is telling me. $175 diagnosis... $940 out the door to repair. 🤬 I'm paying the diagnosis fee and gonna do it myself now!
I found that if you push down on the hood while doing this it makes it a little easier. At first, I couldn't get it, but look at the angle he puts the screwdriver at to get a better idea where the latch is. Great video though! I was replacing a dead battery so if I couldn't get in I was looking at a tow!
Thanks for the vid, will try tomorrow. The part that u pushed up against on the passenger side has a hole in it, looks like a spring is missing from it.
On mine my yellow latch feels like it’s not connected to anything. Tried this method and did not do anything but make that click. It still stays locked
D any of you live in Michigan? I've tried this and can not get it. But I'm so in need of an oil change and on disability so I can't afford to take it to a shop.
Right now can't get the hood to release and the battery is dead. I'll show my husband this video and hopefully we can get hood up. This is a crazy issue to have. Shame on ford.
I'd advise against this. Going to have to replace the passenger hood latch due to knocking off one spring and losing the other completely. Just order a new hood latch from Amazon with two day ship.
EDIT: Dealer just called me and now the drivers latch will not close. 🤦🏻♂️ AND they dented the bumper cover with the screw driver when they did this to get it to open!!! 🤬 Well. 1 problem solved. The hood is open and I can get my oil changed. Gonna look into replacing or repairing the latch myself. (I JUST needed to get the good open...) I'll have the dealer put it in writing that they dented the bumper and will repair that... Saving me around $800 if this works... Gotta pick up the car from the dealer after their diagnostic today. That's $175 already!!!

What about when the yellow safety latch doesn’t release the hood? My interior release handle works, but the safety latch does not

This car is a piece of shit. I never would've bought it if I knew it needed a new hood latch. Whoever heard of such a thing.
