Quite moderately rusted, not horrible. Lots of work but at least there is something to weld on. Floors are annoying when they rust from both sides. Nice to see that remaining MK 2s finally get appreciation they deserve.

Yes very annoying that they rust both side but I don’t think the shaggy carpet helped this time round other then keep the moisture in.

It really is only a LOVE project. After all the work and welding is done, and a new coat of paint, it's still only going to be 40 year old car worth $500. I hope you find the lower control arms with their balljoints intact, they are notorious for wearing out and the last time I tried to get one it took 6 months and a Small Ford Car Club member to help source one, lucky for me, he had a couple in his spares stock.. I haven't seen an Escort on the road in Australia in over 15 years ( tricked up car guy type modded ones excepted ), and 90% of wrecker's have closed now due to modern cars being made from plastic and other unrepairables, so actual parts have become rare commodities now. I'll be following along with interest on your journey's, I still love my Escorts...

i Dont agree with that it will still be worth alot more than that. But its not mine its a family members and he does certainly love it. I can imagine they are hard to get hold of but most things in the uk are available. Thank you for joining me on the journey its very apricated

@@BatysGarage I didn't say it to be offensive or to undermine your work in any way, it's simply the facts. Your restoring a 40+ year old car, with very little appeal to a younger buyer, no turbo, no battery powered wheel motors, no bluetooth steering wheel...etc. I would be HAPPY to come and help you work on it for FREE, as the Escort and I have a LOT of fond memories together, I have owned 7 of them over the years, but NONE of them sold for what they owed me. It's the same with any car rebuild, NO_ONE will pay you for your blood sweat and tears, all you get is the value on the open market, and this isn't going UP on a car like this, a serious collector MIGHT give you half of what you spent to rebuild it, if your very lucky, but not a lot more. I spent almost $12,000 on my last Escort Van, it had everything possible done to it, fat tyres, lowered springs, teflon bushes, 35mm sway bars front and rear, Koni adjustable's on the back and 4t rated Macpherson's in front. Rode and drove like a track car, I sold it for $900, and that was more than the guy wanted to pay. Pour ALL your money into this, and watch it evaporate faster than a Mai Tai on a beach in Majorca...
I'm still coming along for the journey though, I admire your courage....and I"M SERIOUSLY interested in how many different British made nuts and bolts are holding this one together, my last 2 door had 6 bolts holding the bell housing to the engine block, when it left the shed in Luton or Slough in 1978, I assume they were all the same, by the time I got my hands on it, it had two 1/2inch, one 14mm, and three 13mm bolts holding the gearbox in....and we will NEVER discuss the "fusebox" it had....

Love the paint job, that's at least 10 mph extra.

Looking half decent considering ho 0:07 w long its been sat for depending on how far the customer was to go many parts could be available through owners club or specialists unless you can fabricate repair sections ❤

this isn't all that bad, the vans and the estates were renowned for the rear ends rotting out fast.
