    As a Florida resident of 9 years, I find your video spot on. The most honest video I've seen. I'm putting my home up for sale next week and moving back to NC where I was born and raised. I've enjoyed my years here, but now the traffic has gotten so bad and everything has gotten crazy expensive. The main reason I'm going home is the health care. I'm really tired of the substandard health care here in this state. I thought it was just me because I use the VA Health Care System, but after trying civilian care through Medicare, my experience is the same. Long wait times , slow referrals, doctors that see you maybe 5 minutes on a good day and tell you to come back in 3 weeks just for another 5 minutes. It's all a revolving door of waiting and poor care. I have learned that any doctor that went to UFC is really the bottom of the barrel . A few years back I started screening new doctors to make sure they didn't graduate from the University of Florida..it's that bad. I guess they spend all their time tanning and partying . Anyway , If you're from out of state listen to this guy that made the video. It is all true and then some. Make sure before you buy a home to check the flood plane because you will need additional flood insurance. If you live less than 3 miles from the coast you need extra insurance. If the home you are looking to buy has a roof that is 15 years old or older you can't get it insured without it having a new roof. If the home is built in 1975 or earlier ,make sure it has been re piped , otherwise the pipes are bad. These are items I learned the hard way as a homeowner here. Also check the sinkhole maps to be sure you future home isn't in danger of being swallowed by the Earth. One more BIG thing, if you are thinking of living on a canal, get out and ask a resident you see if the canal gets full of algae in the Summer. If so you should probably pass if you have respiratory issues or are sensitive to odours. The algae in some canals can get unbearable so you can't go outside in your yard. So do your homework before coming to Florida..hope this helps someone.

      Thank you and I try to be as honest as possible and objective without any bias. It's all based on my personal experience living in FL, the experiences of my clients and research. The healthcare system here leaves a lot to be desired. I don't know about the doctors from those universities but I don't doubt they were partying it up in college. I always recommend flood insurance even when not in a flood zone. It's around $500/year and it's good to have just in case. The insurance issue is real here with the older roofs. Lots of issues obtaining insurance for many homeowners with a good amount of them being dropped. Thank you for your comment and all your observations living in Florida the past 9 years. Even with all of the issues, I personally think Florida is still a great place to live with more PROS then CONS but that's just my opinion. BTW - I can help you sell and get back up to NC if you're interested 😎

    When you buy real estate, you acquire physical land or property. Most real estate investors make money by collecting rents (which can provide a steady income stream) and through appreciation, as the property's value goes up but Investing in the stock market makes the most sense when paired with benefits that boost your returns, such as company matching in a 401(k).

      Very true . Want to add little more . Florida has the lowest salary of every industries . If you make 50,000$ / yr , this is a good job in Fl . Most jobs pay less than 50,000. You can look at in any job advertising website . Don’t come to Fl to get a good paying job. Regarding gators , they are very intelligent reptiles . They will never hunt human unless you fall into the water . They hunt small animal . Floridians are comfortable to share space with gators in their community . But don’t walk with dog closer to pond or lake . Gator will hunt your dog .

    I will say that I agree with all of these issues about living in Florida. I would like to add to that to say that unless you have an established career, finding work can be difficult despite all the jobs that are available. Easy to find jobs tend to be low paying or sales. Unless you are in a dual income household, you may find yourself working constantly without a lot of time off to enjoy the perks of Florida. I moved here from California over 8 years ago and ever since I moved to Florida I find mymself working constantly and make ends meet. I grew up in Los Angeles and I can remember having days off going out with my friends, having time to go to the park and sit there and embrace nature, and I don't really feel like I have time to do those type of things living here. Again it depends on each person's unique situation but as I said if you don't have an established career and you just want to come here and find a job and start living, It's going to be difficult without a good savings because it is expensive to live in South Florida. And medical care here sucks. Hard to find a good doctor with an HMO that's not booked several weeks out. You need referrals for everything and those take months to get an appointment...it's terrible.

      @karingoodman4999 I'm not sure the rent prices up there but in Southeast FL the average 1 bdrm in a decent area is around 1900/2k a month. I live in a 2 bdrm in Boca and pay $2500. Broward County which is Fort Lauderdale might be cheaper in some areas but it's not as nice and even a bit ghetto and more crime down there. If you wanna live in a decent and safe neighborhood wherever you go in Florida I'd wanna have at least 2k available for rent or mortgage and be earning 3/4 times that amount to be able to afford the other living costs and have a life. My roommate and I earn about 7500 a month between us and we're struggling. Bills are paid, but it's rough.

    Totally agree. Been in Florida for 40 years.
    Healthcare sucks. Insurance company went bankrupt, now have no house insurance because I'm required to replace my 16 yr old roof at 30k. Massive traffic issues. Housing shortages for renters. Unbearable heat and humidity. It's 90 degrees today and only April
    Enjoy gardening? Forget that. Almost impossible to grow fruits and vegetables here once the temperature gets over 80 degrees
    Have pets? Massive flea and tick problems
    Like the beach? Red tide and seaweed problems with dead fish everywhere
    People come here. Stay in their house with all windows closed and AC running 24/7. That's reality.

    I'd say this is overall pretty accurate. I dreamed of living in Florida my whole life after visiting various cities there over the years. In 2015 I got my chance and moved from the Midwest to Ft. Myers. Huge mistake. Housing is extremely unaffordable and sketchy at best. Good luck owning a home, the costs are unsustainable, and local agencies like code enforcement are more invasive than the wildlife. Overdevelopment goes unchecked, and the infrastructure is not up to the population explosion. Mosquitos and roaches infiltrate everything.
    The brackish tap water is disgusting, and corrosive to plumbing and appliances.
    Traffic is a nightmare, no one obeys traffic laws at all, and uninsured drivers abound. Accidents, impaired drivers, and severe road rage are a way of life. Insurance and taxes are outrageous. I rode out Hurricane Irma, and despite how the state pats themselves on the back for hurricane preparedness, it is largely disorganized, and when it hits, you are on your own.
    They have the highest concentration of the rudest people I've ever met coupled with a noticeable bias in population diversity. Beaches are filthy and polluted, and perpetual Red Tide makes them unusable more often than not.
    Health care is indeed expensive and inaccessible. What is available is a joke.
    High crime and an ineffective, corrupt police force round out the list of reasons to stay away. Paradise it is not. Warm weather is the only pro, and believe me it is a small consulation that doesn't outweigh the cons. I left in 2020 which was the best decision of my life. Good riddance, you can have it.

Many, if not most people, focus on the now, but in my case I don't want to grow old and bag groceries at a supermarket because retirement is not enough. I want to live comfortably when I get old. No state income tax but everything else is triple the price...so basically a trade off.
    I'd rather be above water in snow than under water on a coast. Let's face it, the amount of people moving there is exceeding its carrying capacity and is beyond unsustainable.
    I wish people would stop condemning snow too, and instead, learn its importance in food growth and nature's checks and balances.
    Hot, flat, crowded...immensely overrated. Highways are loaded with imbeciles. No thanks.

    You forgot to mention the snow birds every winter crowding highways, stores, supermarkets, doctor offices, restaurants, etc. Since many are flocking to FL from up north, the traffic is unbearable, the demand for housing is driving the cost of houses, condos and apartments to nearly the level of CA prices. Sadly, the migration from blue states to FL is ruining our way of life and driving the cost of living exponentially.

It is like walking into the hottest sauna ever made. Your blood thins out, so you have family back home, your not visiting at all! There is 5 million and one Catholic Church’s, you at least need minimum of 300 hours of defense driving school 😂 every day someone is driving through a store, alway going the wrong way down a one way, u turn as soon as you are speeding towards them ! They can’t drive😂 thank god and knock on some wood over here I had a dad who was a police officer up north ( all his department moves here when retired) I actually have done defensive driving cause my dad didn’t trust me😂 I got sick during the beginning of Covid like before it was bad! Good luck finding a dr cause they are the ones who just passed by the skin of their teeth are in Florida! Takes forever to get anywhere around Orlando. Floridians used to honk and pass but now they’re just as distracted as anyone else.

      Having lived in Orlando in the past and frequently driving up to visit family and the theme parks. You’re 100% right. Getting around takes a while and there’s always traffic on i-4 no matter what time. Between the 408, 417, 528, turnpike, 429 etc it gets expensive getting around because of all the tolls.

    All states have their pros and cons. you'll just have to deal with the cons. I lived in Florida way before the newcomers fell to arriving in the state, and I'm quite stunned at how the population has doubled since I moved out. "Key Largo" a song by Florida native Bertie Higgins, brings lots of fond memories of the time I lived and spent in the Sunshine State.

      I'd say the population has quadrupled in the last 5 years...Never started the checkout line at my nearest Walmart, from the back wall of the store, before then...Now it's more common than not...Or having to go to a different Walmart because you can't find a parking spot for more than half hour...Miami is the most insanest place I have ever seen and I've lived here since 1957...I travel up and down the state a lot to my different properties and Port St. Lucie was a wonderful sanctuary years ago...Now it's almost as bad as Miami...I also own some property in Madison and thought of just renting Miami and retiring there...Well I went there in November and it's CRAZY...I mean, there's nothing there for miles and people are buying land and moving there in DROVES...Traffic in Madison was unheard of, now there's an insane rush hour to Valdosta, Tallahassee or Live Oak...Thank God I'm not claustrophobic, but it is suffocating to say the least...Thanks for the 80s memory of the "Key Largo" song...Now even the ocean is overpopulated...😂🤣😂

    I grew up in S. Florida but left a long while ago. I still have family there and each time I visit, the state has changed so much so that I do not recognise.
    - Major traffic daily- varying drive patterns from out of state retirees and foreigners.
    - Over populated
    - High rents
    - Expensive homes coupled with pricey insurances
    - Expensive car insurance
    - bugs and mosquitos 🦟
    - increase in alligators 🐊 and crocodiles 🐊. I use to walk and run along many lakes back then. I wouldn’t dare that now.
    The charm of historic old homes, efficiency’s, antique shops, cinemas and historic buildings converted to shops- many I grew up admiring are all demolished for new bigger new towered homes/condos with expensive HOA’s. It was a different time and I enjoyed my years as a teen.

    This video is right on!! I mistakenly moved to Florida in 1994 from a small city 50 miles north of Albany, NY..
    I had a lot of friends that lived here and after visiting them many times, I decided to move here. Worst mistake of my life!!! Well, after a while, they All moved back as I should have. I unfortunately didn't have the funds and my health was not good. I am now in a nursing home in the middle of the state, and just about all nursing homes have a rating of three stars or less. But that's another story.
    If you move here, the scariest time of year is between June 1st and November 30th. - hurricane season!!! Your eyes are constantly glued to the TV for information on the next hurricane. Along with the hurricane, is dangerous lightning,
    Tornadoes, very high winds, hail, and flooding. You can kiss anything you own Good bye!😮
    Then, unlike NY and other northern states, don't think you can put on a pair of swim trunks and hop into a nice lake, pond or stream,😮 you can, but you will be EATEN 😢😢😢. alligator's, pythons, sharks, jellyfish, and other creatures too numerous to mention. Want to go on a hike? Not without a gun! We have bobcats,bears, wild boars, snakes, poisonous insects, ect. Want to take a picture of the cute alligator? Don't stand too close, they can run 30-40 mph for Short distance's. They will beat you back to your car!😮😮😮
    Well, there's plenty more I could tell you, but I don't have the time or space to continue. My last suggestion is to NEVER EVER move to FLORIDA. Nice place to visit, but you DEFINITELY don't want to live here!😮😮😮

    Lived in central FL for several years. Now in north FL near Tallahassee. LOVE it here. Less traffic, lots of parks, 45 minutes from the coast. Close to GA & AL. Also the leaves change in the late fall. Im originally from the Northwest, so the biggest downside of FL (the WHOLE state) is the long, hot summers. It basically feels like summer for 6 - 7 months of the year.

    Excellent video. I can add a few thoughts living outside Miami nearly 60 years. Just expressions we've all heard about Florida. Like God's waiting room, the sunny state for shady people, Florida, where if the United States ever needed an enema, Florida is where they'd put the tube, Florida, full of shifty people who can go in a revolving door behind you and come out of it ahead of you. There's the usual floriduh. All aside though a pretty nice place to live, especially between Halloween and about Easter. Rest of the year is about like being 3 feet from the sun, plus add the humidity, but at least here a breeze and can happen but rarely goes above 93 in the summer. Love the quirkiness of a lot of people here, to most people do no harm, generally leave you alone, don't care what you do, etc. Glad I don't live in a hoa though, heard about the condo commandos who can't exist without stealing money from the hoa and thinking they can have power over you to live exactly how they see fit, rarely enforcing the rules equally, and better yet won't live under the rules they force on you. I guess ok for some but don't want no part of it. Just ask anyone living in one how much the "special assessment" letters are feared on top of the usual fees.

    I used to love the slowness about everything in Ocala, now it's like living in Orlando, since so many people have moved here the greedy builders is building on top of each other, lots of people don't know how to drive down here, it's like the Daytona 500, now the locals that's grown up & finished college still can't barely afford to buy or build a home, the Dr's & Healthcare is all about the money, it's a business to them, that's why folks don't like to go to the hospital, even if you have insurance you still get about 4 to 5 different bills because of the multiple physicians that treated you while in their care, the ambulance ride is a killer, that's $889 straight off the top, that's highway robbery,I missed the old days when you could walk to the stores & it wasn't crazy

    Very good video. Thank you for creating it. The people who commented below mainly agree with you. The point I really don't understand is why people who want a warm climate pick Florida. Why not Georgia or the Carolinas? And to be honest, if they live in the midwest and hate winter then the mild winters along much of the eastern seaboard would still seem like a major change for them. I moved from a location with very cold winters and sometimes major snows to a location where there is winter but by comparison, very mild. Yes we could get an unusual snowstorm just as Florida gets a Category 3 hurricane. And while snowstorms can cause problems, they usually just keep you from driving a day or two and force you to stay home and relax. Unlike hurricanes where you often fear for large scale damage to your house. If you don't like shoveling then hire someone to do it for you. You're going to pay at least $3000 more for insurance and likely that much more for property tax so you could easily contract someone for $1000 to plow you driveway and shovel. The local guy does my driveway for $50 and last winter I only needed him to come once.

    • @LIVSouthFlorida
      @LIVSouthFlorida  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All valid points. I’m thinking they pick Florida because want a warmer climate on a consistent basis vs Georgia or the Carolina’s that have more seasons and get colder in the fall and winter months. Not too mention that Florida has no state income tax and is more tropical than said states. The feedback I get a lot is that in northern states it’s cold and gloomy half the year and in Florida we don’t experience that. While a good portion of the country is freezing and stuck indoors in the winter, in Florida we’re out having fun, at the beach, golfing, boating, walking/exercising, going out to restaurants etc. Thank you for your comment and I appreciate you watching! 🙏

      There's a lot of master planned communities being that there has been so much new construction in the past 25 years. If you don't live out east near downtown there's definitely going to be family chain restaurants. However, it's gotten so much better the past 10 years. I agree... certain parts of FL are boring but I also think it depends on what you find entertaining. Lol Floridians have a weird view of snow. I grew up in Florida and live in Minnesota. "We get hurricanes but at least we dont get snowstorms." Hmmm well on one hand... I can have flood waters, no electricity, downed trees, broken windows orrrr a gorgeous landscape covered in white snow perfect for sledding and general winter activities. Tricky choice lol. Here in MN we plow and salt the roads pretty efficiently. And it doesnt take a lot to shovel your driveway. Just get a snowblower if you live anywhere that gets over 40 inches of snow. I lived through Katrina and Wilma and I will take shovelling my driveway for a little bit versus you know... losing power lol. Snow is awesome. I welcome it.

    • @LIVSouthFlorida
      @LIVSouthFlorida  ปีที่แล้ว

      I see your POV. If you like outdoor activities and being out in the snow then you're in your element. I know snow being from Jersey and how annoying it can be with daily life. Our hurricanes aren't that bad other than Ian in the past few years. Losing power sucks and for the major hurricanes we usually drive out of state and make it a vacation. Many have generators too so it doesn't affect them. I wouldn't want to be stuck in cold for 6+ months. That's just my personal opinion. It's nice to visit but I appreciate being able to do all of the activities I want all year round and if I want snow I'll take a trip. It's all perspective and what matters to you.

    • @BadgerCheese94
      @BadgerCheese94 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LIVSouthFlorida Well to be fair, NJ handles snow differently. Outside of like Maine and New Hampshire, the East Coast that wintry. I mean it snows and you can get nor'easters and all but it usually melts within a week where as here it snows in winter and it normally wont melt til early spring. A snowstorm in MN is not a big deal. Plus we are so far north we are Canadian Lite lol. Hockey and snowmobiling is in our blood. I am actually disappointed I havent been able to play ice hockey or go ice fishing this season cuz the mild weather.
      Snowstorms on the East Coast are more desruptive. All though not as bad as ice storms that hit the South.
      But I also dont think we have 6 months of cold. We have 4 seasons. As long as its above 0 I dont mind the cold. My fav temps are the 40s-60s which is how it is most of fall and spring and weather like that is rare in South Florida lol. When it gets that "cold" people don on jackets and boots and act like its freezing lol When its that "cold" here I am either gardening if its April or May or picking pumpkins and apples in October and wearing a light flannel. Thats another thing I dont like about Florida. No fall colours. I will take a maple tree in fall over a palm tree.
      To each their own but doing the same activities year round sounds boring to me. I love ice skating on my local lake in January and swimming in the same lake in July.
