Florida is freakin full we don’t need more people here !!! 😡😡😡
I am 72 yrs old and have lived in Florida for 40 yrs. 15 years on the beach, 15 years on the golf course and for the past 10 years have lived in a semi rural area. It has been a wonderful life. Now 10,000 houses have been built around us and the traffic is congested.
Same here! They are saying that the people are moving out of Florida! I just see people moving in around me, and the fastest I ever seen! Maybe this guy wants to scare people to move to Florida! I agree! Because this land cannot accommodate so many people! There is a limit!
Well i my self have lived in Florida 40 years from Tampa to New Port Richey to Now in Citrus Co. The Hurricanes will thin out the weak Alphabet Queen's...🤣🤣🤣
Same where I live In NJ.
I feel your pain. I live in Gainesville, and the traffic was always bad, but now they're building all these super high-rise apartment buildings and the traffic is horrendous! Plus, rents are going up so much, I may be living in my car in a couple of years.
You must love gators and large snakes, l could never live in that bug filled hot and humid state. It's full of creepy shit.
I've lived in Florida for over 40 years. Stay away. Especially if you're from California or New York. Spiders, snake, alligators and giant flying cockroaches.

Where people are loosing sight is that insurance companies are not in the business to hand out money, they are in the business to take from their insured.
Insurers are in the business to build reserves from premiums to pay claims for insured losses. This is a high risk state with re to certain property perils. Insurance carriers are in business to make $, they aren’t not for profit organizations. Some years they do not make $. If they can’t make $ in a state they will leave. Citizens (state run) wasn’t charging premiums based on the true risk and as a result didn’t have enough premium to pay claims and other insurers are having to make up for it.
@@sharongallagher7730Citizens needs a better business model. They are the worst insurance company one can get. They never “deny” claims, they just find a way to lie about how much it costs to repair so that it’s always below your deductible, forcing homeowner into a lawsuit situation. If they just paid for initial damages as they are responsible for, they’d avoid the expensive lawsuits.
Nobody is “loosing “ anything. It’s LOSING. Nobody can spell this.
@neilgunns8391 OMG right??? I can't get over that no one knows how to spell lose. I see it everywhere. 🙄

The amount of money people are paying for their houses in annual taxes is insane.
Port St. Lucie is a joke. Better yet tradition.

It’s the whole country not just Florida
I'm in Orlando and paid $710 last November, up from $631 the year before.
@@inboxnews I’m in Colorado last years taxes was $6500 up from $3000 from the previous year moving to winter haven and the new homes taxes is 2800
I’m a FL native and most of my family still live here. Where I live (west of Orlando) our city and county are booming. I don’t necessarily like all the changes that come with it but things change. I’ve read people online afraid of FL (gators everywhere, hurricanes, lightning, sharks, etc)…that’s good; stay away. Almost everywhere has bad traffic and if it doesn’t now, wait 10-20 years (that’s how long it took us here). To each their own.
Hubby and I are old Florida natives.
He actually is a home builder. What we did was purchased raw land with lots of oak trees and a water source, built our home, which is exactly what I asked him for, is basically a shotgun house.
The entire cost of our house was 7,800. (It cost us 200 more than the house to put in water, but we made sure of two things. One, the well hits the aquifer. Two, it's got a hand pump included for when the power goes out. I can actually pump water into our house, the summer kitchen and the guest cabin, from the well.)
We have no reason to purchase insurance because if something took out our entire house, we can just rebuild it.
It costs less to replace our house then it does to pay for property insurance for three months.
The people who are moving in are obviously spendthrifts. They won't be able to keep the property that they have purchased and as soon as a big bad hurricane comes, most of them are out anyway.
Florida wins!
Not sure I understand, Florida wins what?
@@kbanghart The more Florida that newcomers have to deal with, the more they leave.

Don't read what's not there.
There are issues in Florida, many of which are touched on in this video. But the truth is, Florida is a big state. Some choose to live in the hotspots pointed out here.
But there are many, many smaller cities and towns, outside of Ft Myers (featured here) Sarasota, Miami, Tampa Bay, etc, where it’s just as affordable to live in as many other places in the country.
My mother in law who's in Florida, probably several years ago, just dropped insurance all together. I thought she was nuts when she first did it, but given the fact she's been in her house for well over thirty five years and has "weathered" many a storm and several major hurricanes (none were directly in line with her home) and hearing the ridiculous premiums ..... I don't blame her for rolling the dice. I really don't. This is basically an advertisement for North Carolina.
Jerry is also advertising South Carolina, since he is a real-estate broker there. I have lived in Florida since 1978 in the fastest growing County in USA, near Winter Haven. I'm self-insured on my lake-side house here, and I am not moving back to SC where I grew up in the 1960s (SC has a state Income Tax and a high poverty rate). But here is a funny joke that can be used against us crackers. Question: Do you know why Florida does not fall off into the Gulf of Mexico ? Answer: It is because Georgia Sucks :-)
Let's hope she doesn't experience a fire. If she is well inland & nowhere near the river (keep trees well away) she should be ok with the risk. But liability is another concern that she should also take into account. But a fast moving strong hurricane can still hit her home & do extensive damage. If that same hurricane can drop anywhere close to 20" of rain that can cause flooding anywhere in Florida.
@@jasoncrandall73 Good point. I should have added that she does have fire insurance. Right, excellent point. She just got to the point where, frankly, at her age, she wanted to just take the chance and dropped the hurricane and flood insurance.
exactly… just drop the hurricane/water damage coverage.
Our homes can handle it.

I have lived here in south Florida for 20 years and it is now just insane. 2004 Ford F250 never had an accident or ticket $3200.00 Hime owners insurance went from $1200.00 to $6000.00 never had a claim. The only thing that has not changed is my property taxes $1600.00 but that’s due to being homesteaded. If you’re a snow bird your taxes will follow the market and that’s a lot of money. Any kind of home repair is 80% higher here a new A/C system in 2007 was $4500 for a high end Lenox system that system today is $30,000.00. The electric is expensive we keep our house at 80 degrees yes we have a pool but it’s a high efficiency variable speed pump and we still pay minimum $250.00 a month. The only things Florida has going for it is no income tax, personal property tax, homestead exemption of $50000.00. The contractors are all scam artists the builders are hack national builders building junk just for profit. Florida was beautiful now it’s a nightmare, we call it little New York, all rich have moved in and pushing us who lived here for years out. I am looking at moving to North Carolina or South Carolina. Your video was a truly honest representation of Florida I realize you’re doing the video to boost your sales in South Carolina.
My daughter and son in law live in St John's County, FL. They bought their home brand new about 24 years ago. They put up solar panels and their electric bill is very cheap. They each drive a tesla and even keeping them charged up, their electric bill was $45.00 this past month. They have had a lot of growth, and have to deal with a lot more traffic, but they try to time their shopping and activities when the traffic is lighter. They are very happy there, and have absolutely no plans to move. Good luck to you all who are moving out. I'm sure you won't have any problems selling your home.
You are so right. Everybody don’t move here to Florida. We are overloaded with people. Traffic is bad. Please stay where you’re at. Please please don’t come here. Thank you.
I started watching wondering if this was going to be insightful.
When, at the 2 :08 mark you say Florida accounts for 79% of all insurance lawsuits "while the other 51 states account for 21%" I wondered if this was a joke.
I'm a homeowner in Florida. 7th generation. I've mapped the State for years with a map-making company, so I'm familiar with Florida at a depth and detail you can only imagine, and, in my experience, a lot of what you say here is wildly overstated, or represents an extreme example that you're presenting as "normal," when it's not.
Crime and traffic vary greatly county by county, and even mile by mile, and crime is lower in most of Florida than most states in the country. Where I live, it's practically non-existent. And trying to get people worked up about lightning and rain? Seriously?
I have very reasonable homeowner policy and car insurance, and the rates haven't gone up more than a few % in the past 20 years. My neighbor had a tree fall on his house in a hurricane and his insurance company had a crew working on it WHILE the storm was still blowing. They paid out in a few days and gave him a generous settlement. So, yeah, "good luck trying to collect."
Oh, and I just paid $12k for a new roof on my 3BR home. If someone was quoted $42k, they should call the police, unless they want it shingled with gold and diamonds.
I understand that you're trying to talk people out of moving to Florida because you want to sell them homes in SC, but come on, man.
There is only 50 states, FL and the other 49 not the other 51.

One was 1/1.5 now rented for $1,400 when she live there was $275.00 Now its over $575.00 and our current place we live is 2/2 end unit was in condo fees used to be $475 now $890.00 and up. Now the cheap studio used to be $75.00 now $950.00 and up! tiny 1/1 used to be $250 Now over $1,500 and up. Mid size 1/1.5 used to be was $600.00 and now $1,700, Now if you have a small 2/1 used to be $475.00 now pushing $1,800 and up, If you have a mid size 2/2 used to be $750 and now over $3,500, Now if you live in an end unit (the larger kind) used to be $1,900 and now $4,500 and up! Very rare you can get 3/2 hard to find $4,000 up to $8,000 now! Its a gated community in Broward FL Not sure how I going to afford it. Prices of home start uppers $275,000 and up to $500,000++++ plan crazy!
When I saw this, I could not resist making a comment. I moved to Florida in 1981, have disliked it all 40+years I have been here. I was originally from Northern Michigan, then Southern California, then Northern Virginia, then Arizona, last Florida. I can honestly say Florida is the worst of all of them. I stayed here because my elderly parents lived here. They have since passed, so I will be leaving soon. Looking into Tennessee, or Kentucky. Would actually love to get out of the south, but would not be able to handle the cold and snow of Michigan. I certainly would not ever want to live in S.Carolina.
This man is correct on how expensive it has become to live here. If one does not like beaches, there is no reason to live here. Its too hot, humid, too many bugs, traffic is horrible. I am tired of worrying about hurricanes every summer as well. It is a nice place to visit, especially in the winter months, but do not come and live here permanenly, you very well might regret it. Oh another thing..Scientology is big here in Pinellas County, they have taken over the city of Clearwater, and have ruined this place. DO NOT MOVE TO FLORIDA.
It’s hotter than I thought, but I can’t go home because home is New York City and that’s a mess
Having lived in Florida most of my life I know first hand the good and bad of Florida. It's hot to say the least, how ever most days are sunny and where I am in Central Florida we have a slight breeze most days. I have been a homeowner for over forty years and bought and sold more than a few homes. Choose your city/town carefully. St.Pete was great in the 60's, but the taxes and traffic had my Parents moving us farther north. We live in a small waterfront community that takes pride in preserving what we have. Great schools, parks, an hour from Tampa, Clearwater, Ocala, or Orlando. The quality of life is here for now. Hopefully it will continue for future generations as my Grandson now runs his own business here after graduating from College. Yes insurance can be an issue, you have to shop around, but our property taxes are reasonable, and did not double-unlike my taxes on my home in Georgia.
And dengue disease is coming... making havoc in large portions of Southamerica now the bugs have been freed by climate change and invading all over FL too.
I have lived her a long time and always hated the beaches
I warned people this was going to happen when they started to move down here. Central Florida has a huge tourist economy and people dont understand. These people were overpaying for places and moving to places like Tampa. I turned to a friend who lived in what was the boondocks at the time of Frostproof nobody lived there. And he was like these idiots are building on swamp. And when the next hurricane comes they are going to have so many issues. They are building too much too fast.
Lol I got a Uncle WILLIE B in frostproof it's crazy hearing it nobody knows about frostproof 😂 They b eating road kill 😢😂😂 I tell people that think Florida is all beaches and sunshine about frostproof and Lawty out near stark
I’ll say it again; the Fantasy of Florida is OVER 😮
Yep😊
Yes 🎉🎉🎉🎉
You are correct. I'm done. Moving back north this year
@@scratchy271 we left Florida decades ago
I’ve been in my home 32 years in Tampa Bay Area. Never filed a claim, live above all flood zones, insurance went from $1200.00 a year to $9000.00 a year.
OMG..WHY ? did u try citizens?
my desire to move to Florida is no more.......⛵⛵⛵
Thank you
Years in Florida Daytona & Ormond Beach. Years in the Keys. Years on the West Coast, Sarasota. 2 major car accidents, neither my fault, one hit by a drunk driver, one run over by a texter. Both times screwed. 50 Hurricanes, 2 floods, 2 lost houses, 1 tornado that caused the house to shift and a broken gas line. Drug dealing out in the open, theft, vandalism, and an endless parade of stupid. YOU made the right choice. Florida is an outdoor insane assylum run further into the ground by an idiot. Clearwater is owned by the Scientology Cult. You'll see the Amish/Mennonite in full regalia at the beaches. It is the Pedophile Capitol of America and while it's gorgeous, it's WAY too much drama. Sink holes, swamps, gators, perverts and murderers. If you seek chaos, then it's perfect.
Smart decision. I grew up here and don't even recognize it. Looking forward to getting the heck outta here.
Same, it's a big issue with the wife now. She wants to move there but I won't budge, I am scared to death to move there now.
That was our goal in about 2 years...no more, sadly
Lived here since ‘82 bought a nice house in ‘19. Prices have soared, property taxes and insurance are insane. Oh and you forgot the scorching heat 4 months out of the year. I can’t wait to move
Florida home insurance will only cover a roof for 15 years, doesn't matter what material. We just had too replace ours and it was fine.
FACT!
I can attest to the lightning strikes. In my folks 30 years living there they have been struck twice now. Once was at least 20 years ago on a tree in the side yard. About 4 years ago they had a new bulkhead installed because the old one had failed (they had just paid off the house and had to refinance). Two years later and the ground for the new bulkhead seemed to have already sunk down by about 2 inches.
Well long story short I discover 14 out of the 15, 18-8 5/8' threaded stainless steel tie back rods are just vaporized at the cribbing. Mind you this bulkhead was about two years old at this point. Insurance would not cover it and the folks are getting old so I had to dig it all up and re-thread varying sections of new rod through the pilings, cribbing and into a matching coupler. It was a real trick lining that all up since the pilings had already shifted some.
Still blows my mind how a lightning strike did that. It superheated the rods causing them to lose their anti-corrosive properties and rust out rapidly. The back yard is 75 feet across. 5 dead men with three tie-back rods each. 14 out of 15 fried then rusted into premature failure.
My home owners insurance went from 10500 to 750 on similarly valued house when I moved to the Carolinas. It was new construction and elevated from the flood plane by several feet. It was a bunker. On the low chance anything did happen to the house it wasn’t like they were going to cover it or I could sue them either. It’s a crime what is going on. Florida state legislature needs to be held accountable!

My insurance has been going up drastically within the last four years. Went up about 35% from last year. Currently paying $11,000! Can’t imagine it going up another 40% next year. Lived in this same house for 30 years, no where near the coast and have never had a direct hurricane impact. I’m a single income household, who could always afford my mortgage/bills and now I’m going back to living paycheck to paycheck because of of the homeowners and car insurance rates are unaffordable. It’s not right that there’s no cap on insurance and they can continue to raise rates. I am feed up with these legal crooks. I would leave this state tomorrow if I could, but feel stuck here for right now and don’t know what to do.

@@user-jn9gv9ve6e If they lived in it 30 years and are not able to drop insurance, it’s been re-financed. All of this is the “financialization” of the economy. Because Americans pay double for everything, supporting institutional finance. Fact
Without debt, the U.S. would completely collapse. Debt here is by design, facilitating global liquidity on American citizen’s backs. Unfortunately, almost all Americans are going to experience and see the devastation of letting finance be the factual entities in control.
Don't lose hope. I read that the legislature is changing laws that will help lower homeowners insurance. 😊
My family lives mostly in Central Florida. We were born and raised there, (I left for a multitude of reasons decades ago). My sister is in Real Estate semi retired, so I'm aware of some of what you mentioned, especially the lack of insurance or the astronomical amount you have to pay out. With car insurance I'm thinking 'no fault' has really caused such crazy pricing, it's unfair if you have never caused an accident yet you are paying out as if you did. Surprised you didn't mention the sinkholes, there is a shocking map in google that should make anyone think twice about buying property on a lime shelf. Hope more people see your warnings, they are eye opening and require careful thought.👍
Insurance is the Top issue if you can even get it. I am a native born in Miami and now I won't get near Florida to live. I would NEVER, NEVER buy a home there again. Now Loving living in SC
Same here 😂🎉😂🎉
Funny I would never leave (I'm also native Miami) Florida. My taxes haven't gone up much although my house has. My Dad bought a house in North Carolina and that summer Hugo ripped the roof off his house. (Not shingles but the rafters and all then slammed them back down). I now live in North Central Fl. near the Santa Fe and Swanee rivers and love it. My 700K home has a 2200.00 tax bill every year. That's not outrageous.
@@bailey9r of all the many places I have been I like North Carolina the least.
6th generation Floridian here. Left and no intent to return for a host of reasons, most of which are linked to all the snowbirds moving there.
You always have the most interesting videos and people need to understand these statistics. Five years ago my husband almost took a job with Frontline Insurance in Florida. Today he has completely walked away from the Insurance business. It's not a stable industry right now. I do wonder how many of those people who have left Florida are healthcare and education workers. Thank you, Jerry.
Probably a lot.
Americans do not know that Congress did a sleight of hand with insurance. Americans do not understand that it was insurance instruments that facilitated the Great Financial Crash. Americans do not know that insurance has lobbied themselves a “deregulation deal” where Congress let them out of capitalizing insurance policies, when no one was looking. The only television outlet that broadcast the dramatic devastating change was Bloomberg business news put it on their bottom ticker tape. The year was 2009. Now our premiums go to the C-Suites and 3rd party reinsurance hedge funds on the stock market, and we are factually being forced to prop up institutional finance with our insurance payments. Insurers then turn around and all use the same 3rd party’s tech software to cheat on claims. All of this activity is fleecing property owners, and has been classified as a cartel, with AG’s and FTC looking into it. The situation needs to be addressed nationally, before it takes down more than the American citizens and our economy.
I was born and raised in north Florida 🎉😂 Jacksonville. Florida used to be nice, spacious, no traffic & cheap to live. We saw the changes & the influx of new people in 1980, and thankfully we left Florida forever. I had the best childhood growing up in safe sunny Florida a long time ago. My family survived hurricane Dora, I remember. I am an only child, so when my parents died in 2003, I sold my childhood home, with a pool in the backyard, carport fenced on a corner lot, no regrets...... From the Ozarks USA drinking free fresh spring water 💦 since 1991
Rural Georgia from South Florida
Going to middle Mississippi from FL

Most of what and the way you spun your video is true Jerry . It is good for people like me that has lived here my whole life and love it ! Hurricanes 🌀 and all ! And your video discourages newbie’s moving in ! So , thanks Jerry !
Thank you for your honesty. I'm in North Carolina on the peninsula in Wilmington. River and beaches so very nice. We still get the hurricanes but not as bad as FL. We have had many move here from NY and NJ. As a result, less homes available and prices are rising. We also have the Air BnB disaster in full swing here.
Wait till the new owners get their new property tax bill 💵 - Palm Beach County our friend purchased his retirement home after selling his home - property taxes on the house was $3800 after he bought the tax bill was $11,200!!! 💰💰Home owners insurance $8000 a year auto insurance $2400 (no claims, was $840 in his former state!)
Beware when you buy, check what the property tax will increase to- can’t go by what the previous owners paid.
Ours doubled and I thought that was bad but dang 11,200!

You hit the nail in the head with this video. After 3 yrs in NE FL and because of other family needs calling, we left. We've kept a small lot on the canal to visit in the winter months. Generally October thru March are good times to be there in a nice rural county. Jacksonviile florida used to be nice but it sucks now ,100% agree.
My house will have 1.5' concrete roof that doubles as a deck for outdoor BBQ, sun bathing, gatherings. I will not build a roof with shingles. The deck/ roof will be covered in very thick rubberized covering with really good drainange, then a wooden plank system and fake grass that allows water to drain. The roof will about 3.5 foot privacy railing likely made of concrete as well.

@@user-kl6qp5gv8e Look at the massive tornado damage in so many other states, it's going up everywhere.
I just turned 60 and plan on retiring later this year. For health insurance reasons, however, it will be 5 years before I can escape from this icebox that offers retirees no tax incentives (granted the state doesn't tax social security, but 39 other states do not tax social security either). I'm looking at two sun belt states close enough to Florida (sorry Jerry, SC is not one of the top 2 states) that have a much lower cost of living and offer retirees very generous tax incentives (both income and property taxes), but also have much warmer winters than where I am now.
14-15 months ago, when I came to the realization that I was going to be priced out of Florida because I wasn't going to have the financial resources to compete with the seven plus figure club relocating to the state, I was incensed. I was very angry, bitter, and resentful (I'm sure a lot of the angry part was having to suffer through another long, harsh winter.
Hopefully the areas of the two states I'm looking at relocating to don't become overpriced. If that happens I'll be left no other alternative but to move overseas where my money will stretch much further.
And even overseas you have to be picky, some places money spends about the same.
Don't believe everything you hear about Florida. (Or, in this comments section _anything_ you hear.) Homes, taxes, insurance, all vary county by county and even mile by mile.
I was hit by hurricane Ian in Florida. My insurance company wrote me out a big check I got a new roof new fence new screening. And my neighborhood all looks much better than It used to. All new roofs, new fencing.
I live in Central Florida. In the past 2 years my homeowners insurance went up almost $4,000! And I'm inland!
FLORIDA; "Come on down, we have no state income taxes!"
ALSO FLORIDA: *has highest insurance and property taxes in the USA*
Not true. It's higher in liberal cities like Gainesville but Florida overall looks out for the citizens by having a cap that can be added each year to not make you house unaffordable as you grow older. He points to a 3 million dollar house and says the taxes are high here. Well show me a 3 mil house in any state with a 2000,00 tax bill.
And everyone carries a gun.
@@bailey9r it is true! For new homeowners in South Florida, property taxes are 2% of inflated purchase price plus high nonadvalorem items as well.
Not true. New Jersey has the highest property taxes in the country. Any 2000 square foot house will cost you at least $11K a year in property taxes. My neighbor owns a 3500 square foot house and she pays more than $20K. 😭 It’s just insane.
