    Elvis Presley said if his gospel music brought one person to accept Jesus Christ as Saviour then his efforts were worth it. Elvis Presley didn't like to be referred to as " king" and often told his fans from the stage not to refer to him as such and that only Jesus Christ is King.

    • @billiejohnson8468
      @billiejohnson8468 3 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Yes you are correct. And it’s a shame it is not talked about very often in Elvis memorial videos. I also heard him one time when called the King of Rock and Roll, he said no, that would be BB King. When referred to as just the king, he said no, there’s only one king and that’s Jesus Christ.

    Paul Simon once described the melody to Bridge Over Troubled Waters as Gospel piano. Elvis and this Gospel choir showed that beautifully.

    In response to your reaction, when I was 6 years-old, I remember running and jumping on furniture when “Suspicious Minds” came on the radio.
    Elvis was my hero.
    His last concert was in Indianapolis. I remember begging my mother to go to his concert. She told me that we would see him next time.
    Not long after, I recall hearing on the radio that Elvis died. I was only 6 years-old but to this day, I remember crying, the type of car we were in, where we were parked, where we lived and what shirt I was wearing.
    It was my first experience with losing someone I loved.

    I was in my car, about a couple of blocks away from home, when a kid riding along side me, yelled out "Elvis is dead". I immediately turned my car around and drove home, I could not go anywhere, I listened to the news and heard Elvis being played endlessly on the radio for days. I was literally shaking from the sadness. I loved Elvis, I collected all his cards and records, I listened intently for his next hit record, he meant more to me than any other entertainer. In those days, parents disciplined their kids. Elvis sang "Don't Be Cruel" and that stopped. if ever I had someone to look up too, it was Elvis. I loved him for who he was, I'll forever miss him. May he rest in peace. Thank you for liking him too.

I had loved Elvis since I was four and wore out Return to sender. A few short weeks ago, I had the shock of my life. I submitted my DNA and found out that Elvis is my 9th cousin through my dad’s paternal line. Our shared grandparents are James Howard and Mary Traliaferro. I know that’s a distant cousin, but he is still my cousin and I am so honored. When I get to heaven and give Jesus a jillion kisses along with my close family. I’m going to hug and kiss Elvis. The thing with Elvis was/is ......every song he sang ... it just flowed from him. Yeah even though he was lathered up most of the time, he never even appeared to be breaking a sweat vocally while singing........ and to anyone that has tried to make a living singing knows that ain't easy by a long shot. The man never took a singing lesson in his life and had perfect pitch. Simply a genius and I'm so damn happy I was around and influenced by him before he went off the deep end in the early 70's.

    Elvis by far the greatest entertainer/singer/performer. But what’s even more important is how incredible of a person he was. Elvis gave at least half of his money to others and charities. If you take the time to watch and listen to the many videos out there with his family and friends. It’s truly astounding how he helped people and donated to charities. If he had it, he shared it. Such an incredible human being. One dear friend of his described Elvis as second to Jesus, that there was not a better man that walked the earth other than Jesus. Pretty incredible description. Tears still flow down my face with certain songs of his when he performs them. I’m still in awe of Elvis. Truly timeless. I’m so glad the younger generation is giving a listen to Elvis. May he carry on forever.

I wasn't alive when JFK was assassinated so I can't compare Elvis' passing to that event. The only other time I have experienced people publicly mourning on a massive scale like that was the sudden death of Princess Diana. When Elvis sings, you will never hear anything that he sings. Médiocre. He will give it his very best every single time. I'm 61 & have loved Elvis for as long as I can remember. I was told by my parents since I was around 2, I would always go up to the TV & stand, whenever Elvis was on, singing or watching one of his movies that I loved, and I would start Kissing him, on tv. My love for him never stopped. I've always loved other artist & I was completely crazy over Bob Seger but I had to say, even though I say Seger is my favorite, he is to a degree, but not more favorite, than Elvis! He's not just the King of Rock-in-Roll, he's a Legend, that nobody will ever touch, not even Michael Jackson, and I love Michael Jackson, but I'm sorry, he's touched & sang to a whole lot of people too, He just can't touch the King, as far as his music ability, the people all over the world, that loved him, his songs & his music. You have to consider all the ones he touched, that are already in heaven, as well. Alot of his fans were like my parents, who now live in their Heavenly home. In either "72" or "73", my daddy, mama & aunt got alot of my family tickets to see Elvis in Atlanta, at the Omni! I was so impressed at what I had seen & heard, it was a once in a lifetime concert, that 'll always Cherish & remember forever, as long as I live! 💖 I'm not sure if you know, or are aware of the fact that when Elvis did his Concerts in Hawaii, That was such a special big night & for me it was a monumental occasion! It was the 1st time a Concert & to my knowledge, anything, had ever been shown via satellite, all across the world!! It was a big moment in time, for everyone watching! The concert was Phenomenal, as always! I'm so glad that all of you do these reactions for everyone. Thanks too all of you, a new generation & even some older generations, are finally hearing Elvis sing, get to watch his moves, his style & his charisma, but most of all, you get to hear his Beautiful voice & get to see for yourself why he's the King of Rock-in-Roll & why he'll always be considered a Legend!!! I will always love Elvis!! I love your show!!! 💖💖💖💖💖

    Just a beautiful rendition, shakes one to the core. It was a big loss losing him. I always begged my mom to take me to see him in Vegas when I was a kid. Never happened. A teacher of mine in Elementary school, Francis Smith, in Bakersfield CA was from Memphis, beautiful woman, dated Elvis just after he hit it big, 1956 or 57. She told me he was as sweet as could be, so kind, a complete gentleman, very humble. She even brought a picture of them together, she just thought he was an amazing person. I live in Vegas, work in the casino business, an old friend, a boss who retired, worked security in the 70s at The International Hotel where this song was filmed, said Elvis was just a unique person, treated everyone as a friend, came in the employee cafeteria many times and spent many nights talking to them, tell stories and take pictures. Everyone just loved him, never heard anyone say a bad word about him. Drugs took it all away, a lesson to everybody. A kind, gentle soul, robbed of half his life.

    Wow, you're reaction brought back many memories. The day Elvis died (august 16, 1977), I was driving along when it came over the radio and I stopped dead in the middle of the road and sat there in disbelief for almost an hour. I don't know if anyone honked at me or yelled for me to get off the road because I was completely numb. That was a very sad day because of all he meant to the world. My brother said there wasn't a thing I didn't know about Elvis and he was right. A few days later, Ronnie McDowell wrote and recorded the song The King is Gone and it was eerie because he studied Elvis for a long time and sounded so much like him.

I had loved his song "All Shook Up" that my mom had on an old 45 so she made sure I was able to see the man who sang that song the night of his live performance by satellite from Hawaii. I was SO young but I remember my mom sitting me in front of the TV and saying "almost the whole entire world is watching this man sing right now". And four years later the whole world cried when we lost him. It still makes me cry and I'm 54 now. It's such an amazing new journey to watch others discover him.
